The R8 Gen 1 (both versions) in a V-8 or V-10 are timeless classics. With a manual transmission, have massive fun now and imagine what these will be worth in 20-30 years if well maintained.
Wow I remember that evo issue was really a great read about the R8 against competition it might be 15 years on but you have one of the best V8 thoroughly enjoy it some may not like it but this made history when launched and still a worthy beautiful one heck of a car
Speed does not define weather it’s a super car or not many Ferraris from the 90s and early 2000s will get trounced by modern hot hatches but there still super cars and this is what makes the r8 a super car it’s got the sound the looks the theatre so all these dumb undercuated clueless people that like to rave on that’s it’s not clearly have no idea
Agreed. If it had a Ferrari/Lambo badge on the front, we wouldn’t be even discussing this. The Ferrari 360 built between 2000-2005 was a mid-engined 3.6 V8 with 395bhp and 0-60 in c4.6 seconds. Sound similar to the R8 V8? Is that not a supercar then? 🤷♂️😂
Nice car! I booked-marked it myself on AT but is not my chosen colour (aside from other minor detail). As you say - has been in the hands of the premier R8 garage, so massive peace of mind there. And the switchable Capristo exhaust is a gem. Enjoy!
Thanks. Black was my second choice colour, mileage was good and the Capristo exhaust is a massive win (bigger win than I initially thought!). But it was last years PPI by REP and the condition that sold it for me. Only option I would have liked would have been the heated seats, but was happy to trade for the right car. And so far it’s been faultless! It’s off to REP in 2 days time for a Post Purchase Inspection and Annual Service. Hoping not much is picked up following last year’s PPI. Fingers crossed 🤞
Congrats Rich - great choice! I was a little worried when you were contemplating the M2 Comp… mine had the dreaded S55 camshaft issue at around 12k miles and would have been in for a horrible bill if it wasn’t still just in warranty! Looking forward to the R8 content 👌
@@FastandFun unfortunately the M2C had to go a couple of months ago, ahead of our baby boy arriving. I have replaced it with something cheaper & marginally(!) more practical… but might be interesting enough for a comparison review at some stage. Will drop you an email once I’m happy with it.
I think you’ll be very surprised. There is so much headroom (I’m 6’ and have plenty of head room) and weigh 17 stone with oodles of space. First thing passengers comment on tends to be how much space there is in them 👍🏻
I am not a fan of Audi R8s or any Volkswagen cars. The first gen look so old and dated. They do in America anyway. I looked at the Gen 2s and for a Volkswagen they are just to much for what you get. That’s just a fact. Your car in our state is considered a “classic” old school car. It comes on your license plate. So does a 1965 Chevy. That’s the class you’re in now!
Looks are very a subjective thing. What someone likes, others won’t. I get that. It’d be a bit boring if we all liked the same stuff. I’m surprised it’s assumed a classic status being such a young car. I’m certain the R8 will hit modern classic status too in the UK, but don’t see it as having reached that age just yet.
The R8 has never been a super car,I remember my first v8 and I was disappointed but now you can find them at 25k plus it most certainly is not a super car with what is now coming on the market.
