Nice, you're the best 240p HD up-sampled 4k sony a7siii with a 900mm videographer/vlogger that uses topaz in Toronto I bet. Pretty close to my Bluebird out of focus feeder/birdbath work. Animal eye detect is so absolutely...sorta reliable sometimes...usually in the middle of the day with full sun, blinding blue sky devoid of any detail to be exploited for toneh.

I know it's a lowly APS-C camera but the video AF for birds on the a6700 is top notch. With the 200-600 without the TC you have amazing reach. The crop in 4k120 helps in the case of wildlife. I haven't shot the HD 240 but I'm sure it's pretty good. Cheers.

The bird at 4:25 is a male American Goldfinch. This was a very relaxing video. Following songbirds as they take off is very, very hard. You see that little crouch before flight and hope it goes in the right direction.

Man that Nikon 40/2 is almost enough reason all by itself to buy a Nikon camera. Some kind wonderful cross between modern and vintage.

Nikkor 800mm is extremely well balanced, and feels much lighter than it is as a result. I've shot with it for long periods, and held it waiting for woodpeckers to come out of the nest at a 45 degree angle for pretty long stretches.. Basically you can hold it longer before noticing the weight, but once you notice, as with any heavy lens, you need to point it down for awhile. My go to on Nikkor was the 200-400 which is similarly front heavy as your 200-600 (but amazing stabilization). The 800mm isn't my favorite lens, but it is very good for what it is. Particularly on the 24mp sensor it is very good as that sensor does very well in low light (better than Z8/Z9)

I used birds as practice when I was a young fotographer. I would practice manual focus and tracking them. Once you start nailing it, photographing anything else is super easy. In some situations manual focus still beats autofocus.

Cardinal-cam is okay... but I miss the squirrel-cam you used to use. Just like you like to go back to the X3000, I wish you would also go back to the squirrels. In the cardinals vs squirrels fight, the squirrels always win.

There is an app called Merlin which will name the bird from a picture or the sound it makes. It does lie, sometimes. Probably because it is free. Maybe there is a paid version that almost never lies.

That upscale footage looks nice. I got a cardinal in HD 120 fps on A7IV. Looked so muddy. I had an ND filter on, which seemed to mess with focus.

Love all the feathered dinosaurs! I wonder if they are sad and jump because they are no longer the dominate giants on the flat Earth. Great shots. I have to be careful when drinking coffee and the Cardinal grave stone flashed on the screen, I laughed with a mouth full of coffee. Not a pretty picture. Looking forward to the digicam point and shoot reviews!

Dilemma: love birding, but really not committed to lugging around a lens as big and heavy as 200-600. Would love a faster 400mm prime, maybe f/5.6, but how about not costing as much as 100-400GM. They could sacrifice the zoom and just make it a prime. Sigma are you listening?

I was smoking in this tree, before i quit smoking, and the most shit ever was caught on video, my eye balls. When you hit a tree with a baseball bat, like kids are bound to be taught by someone chewing Skoll Tobaco, there's a good fun amount of zeros before you arrive at square head she ra. The next day, the tree had been assaulted by a baseball bat...three years ago, big old hole with my cigarettes ashes and butt's still right there. Thats why birds are potty mouths.

If I could sell my A7 IV and lenses without losing too much cash, i would. Sony isn't what it used to be. The A7IV would be my disappointment product of the year, if not for the fact, that i do not care about it's videofeatures.

It's not true. There are plenty of in-camera settings you can do for Sony if you want to skip grading afterwards. Pros don't skip grading, of course.
