One thing that’s cool with the 92-97 ford trucks with an extended cab is the rear bench seat folds down to a flat platform. Great place for dogs when traveling, or a great place to sleep or for just storage.

That is definitely a great feature! I put my down flat during hunting season, awesome place to lay a blanket down and set rifles when I'm poking around in the hills.

I have a 95 f150 5.0 two toned red and grey im also from Utah!! Currently living in Southern California but moving back in a year! I was thinking about selling my truck but after watching your videos makes me wanna keep it and make it as a offroad hunting rig as well! Keep up the videos and your videos make me miss Utah so much! Lol

Really appreciate you taking some time to watch! Utah is definitely an amazing place, especially for adventurers! If you’re able, I’d hang on to that truck! They’re getting to the point where they are pretty valuable when they’re in good condition!

In Brazil these trucks are swapped and rebranded as a F1000 with a MWM 229 diesel great fuel mileage and a proven engine

I have a 96 bronco, an easy upgrade to help fuel economy and better overall performance was changing the injectors from the single hole to quad hole injector.

Dane, i gotta tell you. I NEED more footage of this truck haha. Im your neighbor over here in Colorado. Ime on my 3rd 90s ford pickup and to say i caught the bug on them is an understatement. When my wife and i moved here from Georgia i bought a little grand cherokee to hit the trails with and loved it but i missed my fords. I found a 94 f150 exrended cab, short bed, 5.0 4x4 with the typical rot in the cab corners and front fenders and a rattlecan paint job, looked rough but mechanically very sound with 147k miles. Picked it up for 800 bucks! Much like you my family is growing and we needed more space, sold the jeep to make funds for the new "mom mobile" but held on to my truck. Ive been missing the trails recently and never really considered a build on the 94 for that type of wheeling. Man, i found your videos last week and its been an epiphany. I gotta build it out like yours. Its perfect. Thank you so much for sharing. Maybe when time comes to build i can get so.e pointers from you.

Thanks! Love to hear from other OBS fans! Happy to help with some pointers. This truck as been years of trial and error for me because most don't do an offroad-focused build on these. I'm always looking for more ideas for videos! Keeping footage coming consistently has been harder than I anticipated with 4 Kiddos and a full time job.. that and I absolutely hate filming 😇😂. I haven't been out for a bit because one of my front fenders needs some attention. I absolutely need to head out to colorado to do some of the famous trails out there. Thanks for watching!

@@MisfitOBS i totally understand! But i generally love the idea of building vehicles for a purpose most wouldnt pick them for. Its exciting and avoids looking like everyone else. Lol. I do have a question, what was the ultimate deciding factor for going to dana 60? Obviously its a heavy duty unit but people always use 8.8 fords for drag racing abuse and smaller builds (XJs and stuff) could the 8.8 not be built out to a good enough spec? Just curious if i should plan on an axle swap or if i could build out the 8.8 its got.
@MisfitOBS
@MisfitOBS 9 месяцев назад
Haha. Long answer Incoming, sorry! it's funny you mention building on an unusual platform. There is a psychological game that we play in our heads that people don't realize they do. My truck isn't any more special or capable then a Jeep rubicon with a small lift and 35s but when a jeep does a trail like Poison Spyder in Moab, it's no big deal because it's a jeep rubicon, anyone that can write a check can get one ready to go from the stealership. When people see me crawl through those same obstacles with the same ease, it blows their minds.. haha. Plus, not many rigs like mine out on hard trails, or any trails really, but (no judgement, just not my thing) there are 40,000 different versions of the same Jeep when we go to Moab, again, not dogging on jeeps, they are by far the best platform to start with for a capable rig, I think they are great looking too. As far as the axle, honestly, the D60 was put in before I had a ton of knowledge of building rigs. I don't have a ton now, but it was much less before. Looking back I probably would have built a ford 9" for a bit more clearance and less rolling resistance, the D60 takes a bit more energy to turn. The 8.8 kept breaking like a toothpick locked up with 35s. You can build them up (probably to what I needed) but torque on axles multiplies with a lot more factors, whereas horsepower dissipates with the same factors. For example, you could have drag car that weighs 3,000lbs with 800ft lbs of torque with 4:10 gears and sticky tires and you will have more torque that makes it to the tires. Your ultimate braking point is when those tires will or wont break traction. This is a combo of motor torque, tire traction and vehicle weight. So even with all that torque from the motor, you just need your axles to be stronger than the point your tire looses traction with its single point of contact on the ground (thats on oversimplification but I'm sure you get it). With off-roading, you can take a motor that only produces 300 ft lbs of torque but then put it in low range witch Significantly multiplies torque to tires AND have 4:88 gears which also multiplies torque to tires AND have 35-37" tires which multiplies resistance to spinning AND the rig weighs 5,000 plus lbs which contributes to resistance to spinning AND you get that tire wedged in an undercut rock obstacle so you have several points of contact on the tire which multiplies resistance to spinning. With all those multipliers on torque and resistance to wheel spin, that truck that produces lower torque from the motor is actually applying a significantly higher amount of torque to the actual axle shaft. We thought it would just be safer to go to a 35 spline dana 60 with the intention of running a 37 eventually.. if that makes sense. Another reason is the D60s are way more common than custom built 8.8s; If I have a break out on the trail, standard D60 axle shafts are easier find than Chromoly 8.8 shafts..Wheeling with my wife and kids, I like to keep things as simple and easy as I can. Also, we all need to help bolster our Man-Cards, it's fun to say you've got one tons on your truck, haha😇 Thats mostly a bad joke.. nobody asks me what axle I have..
@MisfitOBS
@MisfitOBS 9 месяцев назад
Non of that is to say that you couldn't make the 8.8 work great!
@garrettparker9316
@garrettparker9316 9 месяцев назад
@@MisfitOBS that all makes sense to me! I agree 100%. Even tho its still a jeep. My 2000 grand cherokee on 31s was very capable and i did some pretty gnarly trails where guys with jeeps and toyotas on more lift and lires would park and tell me im not gonna make it, then watch in amazement as i crawled up without thrashing or hurting TOO much. Plastic bumpers took dome scrapes but nothing major. The all time 4wd system in that generation jeep worked awesome with my 2" puck lift and 31s. I could see that much bigger tires and it wouldnt have performed as well. But with proper line choice and throttle control i got everywhere i wanted to go and more. That said theres nothing like an OBS ford to me. I will always prefer to drive one, evwn if it takes a little more time/modification to make it as capable. If i had the checkbook of these others, id still pick to build an OBS haha. Not dogging those guys either. Jeeps are tried and true with an aftermarket like no other. But ive always been a man of path less traveled..ultimately im not looking to outwheel any jeeps anyways. Just a comfortable trail cruiser with mild capabilities would be fine with me. That suspension setup you got looks 👌 comfy!

5.0l is easy to bump power just by using Explorer heads and a different cam and intake. You can get plenty of torque and horsepower out of a 302V8. AFR heads are definitely going to be better than the GT40P heads plus you'll drop a significant amount of weight from the block with aftermarket aluminum heads. That rig will definitely come alive!

Great truck. F150s get a little rusty here in Utah…I’d suggest keeping an extra ignition module in the glove box with the socket to change it, but that truck will never let you down mechanically. Some people don’t like the TTB front ends, but they ride nice n and off road.

@MisfitOBS 10 месяцев назад
Haha, you are 100% right! I'm fighting the rust battle with it now. It will most likely get some body work and paint either this winter or spring! Thanks for the reminder on the ignition module; thats been on my to-do list for a while.. As far as the tools, that truck has it's own dedicated tool kit on it at all times! Not sure if thats a good thing or a sign I work on it too much 😂. Appreciate you watching the video!

I've got a 95 150 I want to build out very similar... Your front bumper looks very similar to the Move brand, but they don't offer a winch option. Can you provide details on your bumpers? I am also struggling to find a bed cover for a 95. It seems nobody makes them anymore.
@MisfitOBS
@MisfitOBS 7 месяцев назад
Front and rear bumpers are Move bumpers but modified. The front is the Stealth Non-Winch bumper but I built a winch plate for it and gusseted it heavily and reinforced the mounting plates. Took a lot of work and is a VERY VERY tight fit. There is some detail in my walk around vid: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-a32TIWtNGtg.html. My Bed cover is a TruXedo TruXport Soft Roll Up Truck Bed Cover. I believe you can find them on amazon for the long or short beds.

I'm shopping for an obs 9th gen f-150 4x4 crew cab right now, ≤200,000. Dream truck for sure! But yo, I was wondering how do you plan to make the 5.0L more fuel efficient?
@MisfitOBS
@MisfitOBS 5 месяцев назад
love that the 9th gen f-150 is your dream truck! Says a lot about your character, in a good way!! I'm not 100% sure I'm going to make it more fuel efficient but any time you make a naturally aspirated motor breath better, you will get better mileage. A good set of heads will Improve mileage and power, the proper timing with the correct octane will give you better mileage and making sure you have good, efficient spark and fuel will improve mileage. I'm going to do something with all of these systems. But remember, if you do all this and drive aggressively, you may get worse mileage.. the proper gearing and tire size will play a big role as well..

I've not wheeled a ttb so the off road mods and the limits too which they can droop without tearing shit up is a bit new to me lol,I wanna do as little lift on mine as possible( level lift basically) and chop out what I have too so I can fit 35s,my buddy that runs torque king 4x4 carries all sorts of drive train stuff for these old trucks so I'm gonna be rebuilding the front end before I stuff big tires under it.i repect the fact you have taken such a methodical approach to your build for reliability and capabilities.
@StephenShreds
@StephenShreds 5 месяцев назад
who makes that bumper?
@MisfitOBS
@MisfitOBS 5 месяцев назад
They are hybrid builds. The front and rear are build kits from Move Bumpers. The front was originally a non-winch bumper but I modified and reinforced it to accommodate a winch and both bumpers were modified to have better departure/approach angles with heavy skids on the bottom. So the short answer is heavily modified build kit bumpers.

I’ve got one of these. Could you drop the links for the steering kit and the throttle body. I’m going to lift mine and would like it to steer well
@MisfitOBS
@MisfitOBS 10 месяцев назад
For sure! I don't have the info off-hand right now but I will update this response when I check my notes. It's really a matter of making sure your links are the same angle as your axle beams (TTB). The size of lift you do and what drop brackets it comes with will determine how much drop your pitman needs to have and wether you need to do an "over-knuckle" conversion or not. If you are going to do any amount of off roading, I would recommend converting to over-knuckle to get those tie rods up out of the way. Thanks for taking some time out of your life to watch my video!

@@MisfitOBS Thank you! And of course it’s really hard to find good information on these trucks and I’ve done off-roading in mine stock to some success like you and your dad did (my truck was also a single cab long box and was also red and was also my dads) I’ve been looking for a few upgrades to make it a bit better. Hence the lift. I also built my engine with ported stock heads a stage 2 150 over lift and 20 over duration and a few others. Definitely helps the acceleration and is really easy to do and still very reliable. I have heard some issues with the afr heads and using the stock accessory mounting brackets. I would recommend comp cams cam lifter and push rod kit as then you don’t have to play Sherlock Holmes with sizing and stuff

My rigs are all F250 4x4 so either the Dana 44HD or the Dana 50 TTB when I build my '94 I intend to do the cut and turned Dana 50 with a coil spring conversion from Solo Motorsports and then add rear leaf spring buffer mounts.

Who makes you bed rack or is it homemade
@MisfitOBS
@MisfitOBS 10 месяцев назад
A company called Hot Metal Fab makes the rack; it’s universal so it fits most truck beds. I modified it so my bed cover would fit under it and added welded on the brackets for the canopy. So I suppose the answer is yes and yes..😂😇
