Why I Chose Digimon Over Pokemon 

Digimon is amazing, just the fact the creatures speak and have some kind of relationship better that the pokemons contra-part is enough for me

I remember when the Pokemon vs Digimon movement was at its peak; Fox Kids and Kids WB had started airing Digimon and Pokemon in the same timeslot so thay they were directly competing. So as a kid who loved both, I had to choose one or the other. And eventually I just came to decide that I'd rather watch Digimon. I realized that if I missed an episode of Pokemon, I would still be able to follow the story. But if I missed an episode of Digimon I could miss major plot and character developments and be completely lost next week.

Man when I was 9 watching this with my uncle back then and saw that Weregarurumon transformation I was like "yo this man just went yugo the wolf/bloody roar on Myotismon!" I was hype seeing that at the time

Character development is something hard to find in the Pokemon anime, you might find some once every 120 episodes or something? Or whatever.

My first favorite scene is where Patamon evolves into Angemon the first time against Devimon and completely rekts him! You can FEEL the energy when everyone else is wiped out and the song starts blasting and Patamon yells out his evolution for the first time and you're watching his shape shift into some last miracle to save the day, fuuuuu$kkk!!! 8/9 yr old me all pumped 😂😂😂

I'm a big Pokémon fan, and i haven't watched Digimon before, and never knew that much about it. But this video really spiked my interest in the show! I definitely want to watch it now, and the way you went over the episode was amazing!

I recently started watching the Japanese version since I was so use to the English, and noticing some things they cut out.

pokemon is the more inconic. but I always felt digimon was better. the anime had incredible stories and characters. cant remember what episode got me into it but it was sometime during the first season (maybe around when you did) as it was airing reruns during the week (I believe) while new episodes aired on weekend

Fun fact: the 2 anime were based on different things. Pokemon was based on the video games while Digimon was based on the male equivalent of Tamagochi in Japan.

Dude, this was SO much better than Pokemon! I remember this started when I was a freshman in H.S. and thought it was so much more "mature" than Pokemon. You're right about the antagonist never coming across as an actual threat in that show. In this, they actually had to censor quite a bit because they had blood in some episodes and serious fighting...not to mention death like in the episode you cover. Like LOTS of death and actual sad parts. Like the end of this season where they go through the portal and end up in the Digiworld but the human that got used by Myotismon ends up dying and it's legit sad. I was taking German in my 2nd (of 8 over all years) and watched the German episodes and they had an amazing song they didn't bother doing in English. It was called "Meine Digiwelt" (my digiworld) I believe and the original Japanese episode also had a version of it as well.

In addition, he was the scriptwriter for Shadow Star which is a Mons series but with some realistic consequences: What if a kid like Joichiro Nishi got control over a Pokemon or a Digimon?

Digimon was the first kids show that I saw that even mentioned things like death and being children of divorce. It genuinely made me cry multiple times like wizardmons death and the last episode where they say goodbye
