Why Digimon is (obviously) better than Pokemon 

Even though this came out 2 years ago It still pulls on my heart strings to this day.

Honestly this video needs a better title cause tying it to pokemon only holds back this masterpiece.

This was just beautiful, this is so good and informative and it breaks my heart to have been born in our time, the only life we have is the couple of days during weekends from the beginning of our lives till we die, its such a sad and miserable existence, iam glad we have shows and games like digimon and others that make this life bearable and allow our imagination to wonder to beautiful worlds where for a fraction of time we can forget that we live in this shitty time.

Growing up, I was a lot like what you described in the video, doing pretty much everything by myself and spending hours on the internet. Digimon is my favorite Franchise ❤️

I never even thought about that but still came to the same conclusion. I have very different reasons why I came to this conclusion... Pok'emon focuses on the main character Ash Katchum who is 10 years old in the first episode when he starts his Pok'emon journey. He makes some mistakes his journey which is mostly forgivable in that first seasons because he's still new to this journey and learning how to be the best... cue theme song... The problem comes at the end of that first season when we learn that Ash had been using his Pok'edex more often than Garry Oak simply because he was too stupid to figure out that every Pok'emon can only say their own names. This is made worse at the start of the Joto league where Ash essentially starts the exact same Pok'emon journey all over again in a different region making all the same mistakes all over again. Every season of Pok'emon resets the main character back to 0 so he never really grows or learns anything from his experiences. In contrast to this Digimon's cast ARE allowed to grow and learn from their experiences. The second season doesn't just reset them back to 0, it actually starts with the original kids being older. We also often get a new set of kids so if you don't like the main character for whatever reason it's OK just watch a different Digimon series instead of Pok'emon where you're stuck with Ash no matter what series you watch. The plot also changes with each new series. While Pok'emon has stuck with the same basic plot of battle 8 gym leaders while fighting an evil organization, then fighting in the pok'emon league at the end for like 7 freaking generations at this point Digimon's plot can't be easily summarized like that. Adventure honestly... didn't really have the best villains... they were kind of all over the place and none of them were very interesting or memorable. It was more about the heroes journey than the evil Digimon they fought against. I'm also going to mention that the kids were trapped in the Digital world for this series not knowing how to get home. 02 things get a little more interesting with the Digimon Emperor and Armor evolutions though after Ken ends up joining the heroes and isn't the Digimon emperor anymore things start to get a little all over the place again... it's not bad it felt a little more cohesive when there was a clear over arching villain than a bunch of random Digimon. By this point the kids had learned to freely travel between the real world and Digital world which allowed us to see more of what they were like in their home environments than just the brief flash backs we would get in the original series. Tamers changed things up by having the Digimon come into the real world rather than sending the kids to the Digital World. This would be the first time that all of the battles took place in the real world. Aside from that it was kind of more of the same. It did have a smaller cast compared to previous shows with only 3 main kids to start with rather than the 7 of the original with Kari being introduced later on, or the 5 of the 02 cast with Ken joining later and Willis being introduced in the movie. Oddly Tamers had a larger number of supporting characters who would become tamers later on in the series. Frontier I think was actually my favorite series. They changed things up by the kids not having partners at all but instead transforming into the Digimon themselves which removed the relationship building between the humans and their Digimon partners that other series had but it also puts them into the action instead of just standing in the side lines basically acting as Digimon cheerleaders. Tamers kind of also did this with Biomerge evolution. This is also one of the first times that a series had a designated group of villains who were just as interesting as the main heroes. On the down side this series also has a movie which feels like a really long filler episode that doesn't even feature the main villains of the series. We do go back to the kids being trapped in the Digital World with no way of knowing how to get home but it's a smaller cast of characters with more interesting villains that actually makes this series one of my favorites. Data Squad goes back to the kids being able to move freely between the real world and digital world but now the plot involves the kids also working for a government organization which the main character's father also worked for before going missing in the digital world. They ditched the traditional main character always wears goggles design for this series but made the main character an idiot who actually runs in and punches Digimon rather than sending his Digimon to fight them... This freaking moron sees a Digimon big enough to crush him and thinks to himself "I can take him down by punching it!" And of course the giant Digimon barely even notices the tiny annoying human. I hate this series... I hate it so much. There are some interesting concepts but the main character being such an idiot just ruins it. He even makes Ash look smart. At least Ash never ran up to a Pok'emon and tried to punch it. Fusion you have Digi destined who have not just one Digimon partner but several... I mean there's one main one, Shoutmon, but he also collects other partners for Shoutmon to fuse with as the series progresses. Also for the first time there are kids who can travel to the Digital world who DON'T have Digivices, no Digimon partners, they're just friends of the main kid. This series also differs in that rather than all the Digidestined kids working together, they're actually split into different teams. They're kind of all competing against each other but also working towards a common goal both at the same time... and the Digivices can also now transport them to different regions in the Digital world so they don't have to constantly walk everywhere. The villain also seemingly has his own Dark Digivice and this is either the first time a Digimon has had a Digivice of their own without a human partner or that Digimon is a human fused with his Digimon. I'm not really sure which because they never finished dubbing this series. Now here's where we come to a problem... Tri goes BACKWARDS focusing on the original Digimon cast again and even though they're older in this series they end up relearning lessons they already learned in the original series when they were kids. We're introduced to one new character who ends up being a sort of villain not intentionally but because her Digimoin is infected with a virus which we kind of already seen before with Willis. So we're going back to characters we already know, with character development they already had, and a plot we already seen... What was the point of Tri? Last Evolution Kizener was a little bitter but still largely ignores the ending of 02 to bring us a new story that doesn't really fit in the existing time line. Then 2020 is just an Adventure Reboot with different evolutions... I don't know why they decided to go BACKWARDS with the last three series totally missing what makes Digimon great in the first place and making it more like Pok'emon. and now we have Ghost Game which thankfully is going back to new casts of characters and new story lines. It's hard to keep audiences interested with something like Pok'emon that just keeps repeating the same formula over and over again. Some times playing it safe and just doing what people expect is exactly what drives them away. With Digimon, doing something new and different is actually what keeps me interested years after I've fallen out of the target demographic. I do wish that they would continue the trend the first two shows set of existing in the same universe, having the previous Digi destined grow up and act as mentors for the next generation. Maybe have the younger kids move on the next series like Kari and T.K. did. I would love to see a sequel to Frontier with an older version of Tommy joining a mostly new cast of kids. The other Frontier kids would have supporting roles but wouldn't be the main focus. I know Fusion has the kids from all the previous seasons show up at some point though they made Tai and Davis the same age despite Tai actually being a few years older than Davis. And all the other shows take place in different universes. It's a great idea to have returning legacy characters guest star I just wish they were grown up versions of those characters because one of the best things Digimon did was allow their characters to grow up and mature along with the audience. Tai should be in his 30's by now but they keep showing him around 12-20 years old. If you're going to continue Adventure then actually continue Adventure from where 02 ended don't move backwards and recon one of the best endings of any series as if it never happened.

This is such a great video and your voice is so pleasant to listen to. It is hard to come across good videos about Digimon, so I am very happy I found yours. This series has helped me a lot when I was still little and going through a very thought time myself. Because of that Digimon will always have a very special place in my heart. Just seeing those children going throug a lot of different difficult situations helped me so much and I am glad it has helped others in the same way.

And for Pokémon it doesn’t even teach a life lesson or anything all it does is just show fun and in the manga and the old Pokémon subs were very inappropriate because it showed boobs and all that stuff and killing and innards of Pokémon and crap. Digimon is he real star.

I personally think the card game is better then pokemon, you need WAAAY less stuff to carry and you don't have to worry about specific evolution lines, Just the color and level of the cards.

Aye, Black Clover is fucking dope, jist had to get that out there. Digimon was the shit back in the day, loved it way more than Pokemon. The characters where so much better and the story was mad fun.

Digimon at least tried to mature with its audience with both its anime and video game media.

Competent writing, actual drama and stakes, characters that grow and evolve, a different protagonist with every series, deep and meaningful storytelling. What's Pokemon without popularity? Nothing but a game and anime for children.

What I have problems with is probably the dubs americans got from the series, mostly because of the music and the lyrics. Most of us (outside of the US) got a direct dub from the original lyrics and that's also one of the reasons the music hits so hard. Americans did treat this franchise like any other cartoon and made jokes just for the sake of fun because, "why not? it's just another pokemon clone right?" which seems to have been the mentality of the people who saw this show back then on tv in the US. But I believe it's just a cultural thing in America where they just dumb down cartoons if it's for kids.

digimon = far better than Pokemon and requires far more intelligence and time devoted in the original digimon game for playstation where one mistake caused you to figure out what you did wrong and correct the mistake. you gain an attachment to the digimon as well unlike Pokemon where you can't form any attachments. it's all about meta this or shiney that and if it doesn't give them what they wanted and simply throw the newly hatched monster away like garbage. digimon you only had one partner and that was it. the digimon had their own personality and could fight on its own without any input from the player. come to think about it monster rancher was kinda like Digimon in that perspective.

Great video. However Duel Masters/Kaijudo is not a shameless rippoff, it is Wizards of Japan ersion of Magic the Gathering. The game itself is pretty great and fixed many of MTGs biggest problems such as mana screw. Anyway, great video not deeming Digimon as a "ripoff" like it never was.

I mean, both the Pokemon anime and the game are not doing so well. Digimon is getting a little bit better ever since the reboot showed up. The company needs to improve the stories for the next series after the reboot series is over and a new game.

But digimon names lack of originality cuz all the digimon names end with "mon" which is kinda annoying since it's not unique and pokemon is now working on a open world game and pokemon is way more ahead on digimon in term of games for example while digimon is still working on the 1st season pokemon already working on gen 2 pokemon games with gold and silver released in japan but you do have a point. The digimon anime is BETTER while in pokemon all i hear every day is "we're blasting off again!!" the XY series did put some mature stuff by giving ash an official girlfriend in the anime with finally making the battles dynamic and 3d unlike the old battles on the anime where its just a 2d view while staring at some polemon battle to the death. The XY anime introduced mega evolution aswell as the XY games. And pokemon started by releasing their games on the Nes and gbc gb and gba. While digimon started by making their own playing device and lets be real here. Theres no way a little device can defeat a game that is supported on a console made by a popular gaming company and possibly the biggest gaming company at the time.

Thats why digimon has been on life support for 2 decades. They got beat on all fronts. The games, movies, shows, cards. Everything. Pokemon was more successful and continues to be while digimon has to remind fans of its existence every 5 years by claiming that they are making some kind of a resurgence. Dont get me wrong, i like digimon, but its a series that has been having an identity crisis since its inception. Until they find some type of formula to make their own and actually stick to it for more than a year, its going to continue to fall short each and every time and no one is going to know what tf its supposed to be
