The M3 is a Mik Molletta design.
Total length: 235 mm. - 9.25 in.
Blade length: 105 mm. - 4.13 in.
Blade thickness: 5 mm. - 0.20 in.
Total weight: 230 gr. - 8.11 oz.
Blade steel: Niolox stainless steel
Niolox is a good steel for a bushcraft knife in my opinion. It has all the characteristics of stainless steel but properties of a tool steel. It t is also more budget friendly than a premium steel
The steel is made by Lohman, a German company that has been making premium steel since 1790 and an innovator in new steels
Niolox is a stain resistant tool with good edge holding and decent toughness. Niolox contains Niobium an excellent carbide former. Niolox has a typical work hardness range 58 - 63HRc. Niolox is a very fine grained steel with aides it's edge stability but maintains D2 like wear resistance
Blade finish: Satin finished
Handle material: Black Micarta

Very good steel, finished to a high standard and will last a lifetime, but priced out of most user's range.

The knife looks great. Niolox (N679 - BÖHLER) is a though steel with good edge retention and resists to corrosion better than D2 steel does. Your video is very helpful. I also ended up choosing the M3 as my main bushcraft knife :)

Thanks for sharing! I'm glad you found value and will enjoy the knife. I still have not filmed my field test but the knife has been working well over the months. I do strop it for maintenance so it still cuts paper smoothly.

Good video. I'm waiting for my M3 and chose it because I like the blade shape and thickness. I own the T5 (which you pictured as the M5...no big deal) and the M1 and love them both. I purchased Armatus Carry Solutions who makes kydex for them here in the US but unfortunately not for the M3. I really like your kydex setup...I wish your local guy sold them internationally!

Thanks! Yes, unfortunately my guy doesn't do international. However, there are quite a few kydex sheath makers in the US who could do a custom sheath. See how it works out with the M3. All the best!

Very beautiful knife. Looks like a perfect knife for all kinds of duty even in the kitchen. I have the KaBar BK2 but I consider it to be more of a survival knife than a bushcraft knife. I think you made an excellent choice. Hope to see some videos of you using it on various things. Maybe you can do a video using it on meat or vegetables making dinner. As a bushcraft knife, it's main function would have been for food/game processing. Skinning for leather and shaving feather stick for fire. It was rarely used to chop wood or even used to carve wood. A survival knife in the other hand is thick and heavy, built to be used to chop wood like a handaxe and be sharp enough to be an average knife for food processing and emergency shelter building. Your knife is way too expensive to put through torturous use. An established mountain man or a wilderness dweller would cherrish a knife like yours and use it sparingly.

Thanks so much for your thoughts and comment. I never considered to use it in the kitchen. The blade stock is a bit thick for that. But that is an idea. I will definitely have a video of it in the field for Bushcraft. Then maybe I will do shots of it in the kitchen. I don't hunt so won't do food processing or prep in the field.

Personally I use Garberg stainless but I also use BPS adventurer and I love the coldsteel master hunter. Those are 3of my favorite knives. I don’t worry about rust. Being a mechanic for many years if found if you use your tools they don’t rust. Carbon steel I wipe down with olive oil but most importantly I blue everything. I don’t use leather either it just doesn’t last in humidity. Love to hear how the edge holds up and how it is to sharpen.

I think it will be cost prohibitive as you will have to send your knife to Malaysia, get it made and sent back. I recommend you look for a local Kydex sheath maker in your country/ area to make one. Lots of Kydex sheaths makers all around the world.

The b40 and b41 don't use d2 they use sleipner. And in my experience it holds up very well to corrosion. I have never had any rust at all and Iive in the UK... and officially the wettest city in the UK (yay). So I wouldn't worry too much about sleipners corrosion resistance. I think all the horror stories are from ppl who have never used it. It is also very tough and takes and keeps a great edge. You made the right choice for you as these things are all subjective but i Iove my b41 and I have over 20 fixed blades by various makers. Also this thing that sleipner is a variant of d2 is plain wrong. Look at a list of their composition and they are completely different. So I have idea where this sleipner d2 thing came from.
@urbanknifeguy
@urbanknifeguy Год назад
Thanks for that insight! How easy does it sharpen for you? I think it is referenced to D2 because Bohler-Uddelholm themselves appear to call it as a modification of D2.

@@urbanknifeguy it is pretty tough to sharpen but I use a wicked edge and the diamond stones manage it pretty well. But I'd imagine it would be pretty hard going on regular water stones.

Make it with a hollow grind for very sharpness😢😊
@urbanknifeguy
@urbanknifeguy 10 месяцев назад
I personally don't like hollow grinds for woodcraft. Tends to stick in the wood too much.
@johnmeshkis
@johnmeshkis 10 месяцев назад
@@urbanknifeguy what I like about hollow grind is that the blade stock isn’t too thick farther up the blade and you can re-sharpen it hundreds of times before it gets too thick to hold a sharp edge

Not very impressed with that company. Bought a new T6 and went camping and the nylon webbing came undone and the companies response was sew it yourself or that it to a cobbler. The knife was three days old.
