🇸🇪 Could I be happier in Sweden than anywhere else? I talk about a few things about why Sweden is better than other countries, in my opinion, of course. But bear in mind I only live here for 5 weeks so it's a newbie opinion. Let me know what you think!

I think the Swedish lifestyle gets into you. I've been here over seventeen years and can't think of leaving. One observation for someone moving from the UK, is be patient, things can go a bit slower here, but once you get used to it, it is nice to not be so rushed.

Just found your channel and always so interesting to listen to what people that visited Sweden has to say about Sweden. And people that recently moved to Sweden and talks about the first impressions - like you 🥰🥰 and compare this with my experiences. Love your good vibes 💖 I've been to Germany many times but been some years since the latest visit. Never been to UK. I would say Stockholm is a very good city to live in over a long time. Great climate: kind of least affected area in Sweden by thunderstorms and bad weather. Also good summers and the winters often got snow. How much snow at winters is a lottery. The winter 2019-20 gave Stockholm kind of no snow at all. Stockholm also got a good enough subway/bus system. One big con with Stockholm is to find an apartment/house. Can take a long time to find anything. With much luck you can find something fast. Have to sub to you! So I can watch your coming videos! So curious!

A friend who moved back to Sweden from Germany after 15 years told med that Sweden is 20 years a head of Germany in the technology development for the citizens. I think VAB is a great thing for working parents - not just that it exists, but the whole acceptance around it, from bosses to colleagues. Works particularly well during pandemics ;) I think all companies basically have some sort of health money pot since it's tax deductible for companies. You should probably take the car into the woods and enjoy the rights of picking chanterelles and blue berries - it's the season for it. Personally I enjoy all months of the year, but I don't need the sun to be happy. It's quite cozy to me at winter with a lot of candle lights at home, and I find the dark relaxing and once the snow falls the whole background darkness, when for example commuting by car, changes. If you want to actually see northern lights, you probably need to get somewhere truly dark, because otherwise it will just look like diffuse clouds (eyes won't catch any colors in a town unless they are truly spectacular) and can be hard for someone new to even know what they're looking at.

If you’re the right skin colour, Sweden is the best, if you’re not white it can be challenging though. That’s at least the common experience talking to my Sfi classmates, though we don’t live in a big city like Stockholm, so the experience might be different. However, I’ve seen a study from Lund University where the professors submitted the same paper in all but the name to different groups of teachers and the papers with Swedish names got consistently graded higher than the same papers with Muslim names.

Thank you so much! I really liked Singapore. I had a quite posh lifestyle there so it felt a little unreal at times. Eating out all the time, going on weekend trips and staying in nice hotels. And we managed to find two great friend groups we hung out with all the time. Downside I thought was my job which was really stressful, long hours of work which really destroys the lifestyle a little. Also a harsher work environment, although Germans/Austrians might not be too bothered hahaha One thing I noticed which also bothered me a little bit is that there were no original bands, everything was cover bands. It was a proper expat life! I thought it was great for a short period of time but nothing for long-term, IMO. Hope I could answer your question 😊

Recognizes much of what you mention. Mostly because our "new" neighbors come from Germany. They have lived in Sweden for about 2 years, but recently moved from Stockholm to a smaller city or even a little outside the city. We have talked a lot about living in Sweden vs Germany. What has emerged so far as the biggest differences between Sweden and Germany are: - Digitization e.g. Bank ID - Bureaucracy. Germany = handwritten letters. Sweden = Bank ID (after you have managed to get a Swedish social security number) - Parental leave - Preschool and school - Food One more thing. How the media in Germany is profiting Sweden as a dangerous country now during the pandemic. People die on the streets and stuff.

In non uniform schools it creates a competitive culture within the kids, who try to better each other with the latest clothing brands. This will also lead to the kids with poor parents being bullied as they can't keep up with this. Having school uniform takes away all of this. I find it interesting that Sweden, a predominantly socialist culture, doesn't use school uniforms.
@mattiascarlsson5355
@mattiascarlsson5355 3 года назад
Feel free to link to the meta analysis of the studies that confirm this. I'm particularly interested in seeing how they prove that the kids who come from poorer families wouldn't be bullied anyway for not having played the latest Nintendo Switch games, having the very latest and fastest computers running CS:GO or doing some of the more expensive leisure activitities like ice hockey, sailing or golfing. My best guess would be that, yes, that's the motivation for forcing children to wear uniforms, but no, it has absolutely no effect.
@LivingSwedish
@LivingSwedish 3 года назад
Yes, that's the whole idea behind it and it makes sense in theory and maybe it works even with a few but as @Matthias Carlsson mentioned I think reality looks different and there are other indications that a kid is poor or doesn't "fit" in.

2:25-2:50 I get very suspicious when someone simply believes. Saying Greta's name without a shread of irony suggests dangerous naivity. I'm going to be surprised to hear coherent arguments. This govenrment or any government for that matter is not a righteous one. One needs to understand that is a fact of life - power corrupst and it attracts those hungry for power. That is also why most democratic countries constitutions focus on the people as the top decision makers. A free thinker is not going to be happy in modern Sweden in the long run. East Germany wasn't exactly full of free thinkers when I travelled there with my band in 1991. I have lived here from birth and most of my life. My entire DNA is from this place. Everything destroying it is recent and invasive. I stay because this is my country in the deepest sense of the word. Being a "tourist", is different. You will always see things from a superficial point of view - so did I when I lived abroad. I knew I knew too little know anything of relevance.

@@LivingSwedish Thanks for your response - you are of course not obliged to respond to anyone if you don't feel like it. I see quite a few of the starry eyed western foreigners coming on youtube seemingly with a goal to act PR-representatives for the country they recently landed in themselves - and give other prospective travellers a glossy report. Maybe I'm too sensitive since I grew up in an almost perfect country, that later was actively ruined to this state of affairs. "Greta" is a clear sign of how irrational the Swedish establishment must be. A mentally weak 16year old, that looks innocent like a 12 year old, says things that makes Jeanne d'Arc seem grounded. Coached by her celebrity parents (opera diva Malena Ernman) and economically backed by the usual suspects. Orchestrated or spontaneous? Knowing it will cost immense amount of political and economical slashing to rebuild, knowing it will not be achieved in my lifteime - it's hard to stomach report after report of glossy content, completelly omitting the facts why more than a million well skilled and well off and net productive Swedes (statistically with an IQ>115) have emigrated the last 20years. While 2 million complete strangers, mostly without identification, have immigrated during the same time. You have your view; I know what it's like to come to a new country and enjoy everything different but with similar function, enjoying how well it works to communicate with strangers. Being abroad and being appreciated and starting fresh, with all the possibilities, can be arousing. I hope you feel It is OK to "bash" another country too. If we can't take it, it's too bad for us. It may not do wonders for viewer numbers I guess. As a PR-consultant, I'd be starving. I think you might be able to deliver sincere criticism and still make it sound good. Other countries count that as 1, while we count every occurrence as 1. So those things makes us really stick out. There's also more people who dare speak out these days. Have worked in sweden since 2017, paying 36% income tax, while hardly using any social benefits. I don't for the most part even know what benefits i'm entitled to. Yet one often gets such uninformed generalized commentary. Having said that, the swedish welfare system must be reformed & made better targeted. If you was born in Sweden and did study in Sweden you would not need to pay and would have paid back now when you working, you maybe have children that's going to study to doctor, look at the taxes as a investment in your children. The fear of crime increasing just because some able bodied individual, who abuses the system because he/she doesn't wish to work isn't my concern.
