Why I Deleted My LinkedIn Account 

Well said. I've had more work since leaving LinkedIn than I had during the years that I was on it.

I was there for 10 years, from 2011 to 2021. I was an "All Star" with 500+ connections and 40+ endorsements in my top 3 skills. Then in September, 2021 when Biden had the OSHA vax mandate I saw a comment that said "Sorry, not Communist". I replied "Which of the 10 planks of the Communist Manifesto do you disagree with?" and she responded "I never read it" and reported me and I was suspended permanently (unless I send them a two-sided driver's license). I never knew the exact thing I did wrong. It didn't impact my 30 year consulting career. When a good match comes up I'll get 2 calls from 2 recruiters within one hour usually.

I was one of the few people who spoke his mind there. They had a video of people cheering upon learning both of their pilots were black women and I said "they're cheering because they are still alive".

Yeah. I have not missed it since leaving. I've also left Facebook, Instagram, Twitter (X?), and everything except RU-vid. It's a beautiful, quiet life. :-) Thanks for the happy comment!

Good point. I realized that I got one gig off of instagram way back when, but the cost of having to be on there, constantly promoting, comparing, and competing was not worth the half-day rate I got out of it.

Exactly! It's been a while since I made this video, and I have not had a single day where I've missed it or wondered where my business would be if I had kept it. Meanwhile, I've met a ton of people through actual jobs and have found plenty of work that way. Cheers!

Why are people so obessed with followers on there now?

Yeah. It always struck me (as most of the networks do) as people asking for stuff instead of offering stuff. Signing up to be asked for things isn't a great use of anyone's time.

You're not alone! We're all figuring this out together. Who would have thought that a giant corporation that sells our attention and information for profit wouldn't have had our best interests and our mental health as a priority?!?! Good luck on the site, I just redid mine, and I'm never quite happy with how it ends up, but I think it's good enough for now.

Right? RU-vid is the only safe place to post anymore. All the other platforms attract bullies. On RU-vid though both liberals and conservatives alike are able to share their beliefs without getting attacked online. We are all a friendly community here. RU-vid has strict policies on cyber bullying and purposely has a system built in to hide anything that could be considered offensive. It gets censored and removed immediately if they catch anything offensive. I wish the other platforms had such security but they don’t. The other platforms either completely silence conservatives or they silence liberals entirely. RU-vid however allows all points of view. Same with religion. The religious and non religious have a voice. Same with autism. Autistic people are silenced on the other platforms by other autistic people and neurotypicals for fighting for their rights. I once got kicked off Q’uora for being against a cure for autism and against ABA and now I’m getting bullied on LinkDen by other autistics for identifying as an Aspie. People with Asperger’s are getting harassed by people with Autism for identifying as Aspies and told it’s damaging for us to believe Asperger’s and Autism are different and when we point out the scientifically proven facts to these autists that autism and Asperger’s are in fact different, the actual autistics bully the Aspies for pointing out the truth telling us it’s opinion not fact. Idk what it is with actual autistics thinking only their version of the truth is right and when an Aspie dares give them evidence to prove them wrong they bully us and won’t accept it. The other problem is half the spectrum is against a cure, against prevention and against ABA and the other half of the spectrum wants a cure, prevention and ABA and the half that wants it bullies the nuerodiversity movement for being against it yet we allow them free speech. It’s just ridiculous that young people of today try to silence different points of view and label anyone who disagrees with them as ableist, racist or phobic. It’s just a shame nobody can speak their mind without getting targeted anymore. I only feel safe on RU-vid. I’m afraid to go back to LinkDen out of fear.

I did the same this week! lol. I got the offer Wednesday and closed my account Friday after accepting. Good to see that somebody else did the same.

Like most things in life, it’s that equation of “how much time is it worth spending to do this” vs “what do I get out of it.”

Yeah, I despise all the pageantry with candidate searches. Sometime I'll make a video about the hire that made me question everything about my leadership, and how it came around to teach me a serious lesson in humility. Not sure how I could have avoided it.

Yeah, certain industries really lean on it. I'm fortunate enough that my industry doesn't value it as much as others.

I keep getting emails now from VO Artists saying, "I saw your profile on LinkedIn." BUT THEY DIDN'T! I'm no longer there! How is this still happening!? haha

I get that it's a grind, and I'm sure any of them, individually, are lovely. It's just the sheer volume and aggression of most of the messages I used to get. I have my favorites that I keep on call. :-)

Haha! Thanks for farming! I got to do a ton of work in 2019 with farmers around the US, and it was a fascinating, complicated, and challenging world that I knew very little about.

That's always such a painful dilemma: To stay and endure the abuse to prove the point, or to leave because it's easier. One shouldn't HAVE to leave, but I imagine it can be exhausting reporting every account that bullies. I'm sorry for the harassment you've gotten. I hope you can find a way forward that feels right for you. (And you probably won't miss LinkedIn even if it was nicer.)

I'm confused, I'm pretty sure everything is in English! That's the only language I read, too.

That is awesome! I'm glad to hear you found what worked. I feel like some networks celebrate creativity and personality, and LinkedIn only celebrated financial success. For some people, that makes them happy. For many creatives, that's the worst part of our jobs.
