TC1 and A Mode is how I ride my MT09 and usually only cruise in 6th on the highway. Engine really enjoys being between 7k and redline, doesn’t like to be lugged around.

"On/Off" because Yamaha cuts fuel as soon as you decelerate then when you add throttle it jerks on. ECU flash is the only way to fix it. Its NOT because of ride by wire. Emissions man!

$2,500 later... Cruza will sell this bike and not look back. It's like buying a HD, you then have to drop another few K into it to bring it up to your expectations. For a first ride on a brand new bike, I've not heard so many "I don't like that".

Soon as you flash the ecu you will be shocked the difference it makes.

Regardless I think this will be a really reliable bike for you. I've ridden from Dallas to Houston when I had my mt09 and it was really comfortable. They should call this bike a power crusier

I’ve got a 2017 FZ09 that I’ve had for 3 years. Everything that you said is spot on. Having the bike flashed will help with the On-Off-On throttle issue. Also, check out TST industries for the integrated taillight, LED turn signals and fender eliminator. They are by far the best quality on the market.

Now imagine how disappointed you would have been if you got the MT-07... The MT-09 does everything better.

Getting proper suspension will eliminate the need for a steering stabilizer. I know from experience, I have had this bike up to nearly 150 mph on track with hard acceleration with no issues.

Keep in mind Rebound is what controls the Pogo effect. 2nd and more over you have to Baseline the Suspension. If it isn't in range then buy the correct springs for your weight. You should be able to bounce the bike and the down stroke and up stroke on Suspension should take 1 second with a hard push down and release. The up stroke/release should come up with good motion. It should not come up and resettle. The front and rear should travel the Suspension eventually. Last steering dampening issue is more Suspension issues. Get the Suspension right then worry about a damper if it doesn't work out. Also this bike has been restricted from the orginal generation. So plenty of power is on tap. Yamaha detuned it to make it more manageable.

Great review CycleCruza! I have a 2015 FZ-09 and never use 6th gear on the highway, no juice. I weigh 190lbs and the bike feels a little squirrely above 60 mph so I added a bug screen, that helped smooth out the highway riding.

Good review. Keep in mind you are comparing a 7K bike to bikes that are 20K+. The Mt-09 is a great bike for it's price in my opinion.

After an ecu flash it will wake it up, the 75mph roll on is too be expected. This bike is tuned for low end power which is why they top out at 140mph, anytime I was going 75 I would throw it in 3rd and I could easily go around people but after 100mph it starts to slow down. 0-100mph is all that matters anyways

You don’t need a steering stabilizer. I have the save KYB forks on GSX-S1000, you can dial out the front chatter. We’re the same weight: try these setting for a start. Tires - cold 30-32 Front forks - 3.5 rings out, TEN - 7 out, rebound - 12 out. Rear shock is the toughest, try 4-5 preload, 1-1.5 TEN.

Sell it take a 500$ loss its boaring me and I'm only 11.30 into video. Its a great bike but because you have had Ducatti CBRR 1000 and Tuono it's like not cutting the mix. 👇. It would make a great dispatch bike. Sounds rough but sure has reasonable torq. I doubt you will have it in three months time. Next bike please... This one drops a gear ain't saying nada.. Thou it's a great bike.. I guess.. Yeah I can see your Yamaha Super Motard is more exciting your right. 🙂 👍🏿

Never been a fan of this or the MT07.

Life is too short to compromise and settle for less, Cruz. You have to be EXCITED about the bike you're riding. From what I'm seeing and hearing, it doesn't measure up to your standards. Don't be too willing to lower your standards. Live and learn. Let the bike go... enjoy what you already have until the move is over,... and look for another one at your new home. It's always best to move with a minimal amount of stuff anyway. Or so says this young geezer who's been there, done it. :)

I said it before I will say it again, MT09 acceleration: Oh , Oh Nice!, MT10 acceleration: Hoooly Shiiit!.

It's for regulation like gas millage. get good muffler , tune it, and flash the ecu. May be increase one/two rear gear may be help the hit.

I've had mine since 2021 same year. Different color, but I've had no issues. Rust because I live in Washington and it sits outside. Other than that. It's good

I’ve never heard any owner say they think their MT-09 needs a steering dampener. But then I also don’t know anyone who wears an air bag and hi-viz vest riding around the suburbs.

The throttle is fixable, and alot of top end is unleashed with a flash. I think the front suspension is fine, front steering can definately be squirley. I think the exhaust will open up that sweet inline triple noise! To each their own, but I think this bike is a beast. You can't compare it to bikes more than twice it's price 😂.

I have had an MT09 for 4 years so far. Till this monent I an still in love with it! The engine is spectacular!It is simple, raw and straight to the point! For the 6th gear thing, just bring it down to 5th gear and whip it. You can't say it's not doing much! For the on off throttle, this is how a 3 cylinder behaves. You are comparing it too much to the other bikes you have. MT09 has a character of its own . It is definitely torque and power!

To me this bike is about mid range to top end. It isn't as quick as a 1200 Ducati, but it's quick enough to scare you - plus the flighty front end makes it arguably more fun ☺️ I have the XSR and it's very comfortable too

I know what you mean when you say the throttle has a lag. My 2020 MT-07 has the same issue from the factory. The air flow from the engine is so restricted with that giant bread box under there. Not to mention, these bikes are tuned to run a little lean. I'll tell you... all those issues get blown away when you put an aftermarket pipe on it and tune it. And then a high flow intake filter steps it up a bit. Aaaand BTW Cyclecruza, you can adjust the throttle free play by pulling back the rubber sleeve on the top throttle cable. You gotta unscrew the lock nut in the middle then turn the barrel nut to take up the play.

You were riding the best motorcycles on the market, xdiavel and Tuono v4 1100 factory. This bike is 2 tiers lower. Not surprised you are not warming up to it.

Adjust the Suspension before purchasing a steering damper. The best ride mode is standard. The previous model was known for jerky throttle response. Flashing the ecu is something you should really think about. I don’t know, if you know that the last couple of gears are restricted that way that the rev-limiter hits in more early. But that’s something you can fix. ✌️

I mean, those other two bikes are like $10k more than the MT09, I sure hope you didn't expect it to compete with them lol

I passed on this bike for a GSX-S1k and for me it was the wise move. Something about the seating position on this bike, the foot pegs are in a weird place for me. I’m 5’9” 190 and it wasn’t feeling right to me...I dunno. But congrats on the new bike and hope you enjoy it!

Givi makes a smoked windscreen that is a game changer. I’m 6’3” and it helped redirect the wind for sure! Not a bad price point either at around $120

You remind me here of myself when I bought a VFR800. I knew it didn't pull hard enough, I knew it didn't excite me and I knew it didn't frighten me. I tried to convince myself that those things didn't matter to me, when I knew deep down that they were all that mattered. Kept that bike for one year before I gave in and looked elsewhere for something to meet my needs. I tested an MT10 SP and knew in 5 minutes it was the bike I needed. I've owned Fireblades and ridden all sorts of other fast bikes but nothing compares to that MT10. That 6th gear roll on you did, when I do that on my MT10 the front wheel comes up. Many people flash the ECU because they say the throttle is choppy. I don't agree with that, it's the rider's wrist that's choppy, not the throttle. You need an MT10. Test ride one and you'll know...

I think you’re keeping the bike at too low rpm’s you really need to ring out every gear to really feel the power

I just bought a 2020 MT 09 today blue and silver. I love it. Austin exhaust, custom seat, small wind reflector. All I have to do is ride. what do you do with your helmet if you stop to eat, or go into a store ? Do you carry it, or leave it?

I'm so glad you went with a Mt09! Put that Akro Carbon on there and flash her. I will agree that the suspension is buggy though. But the thing is, I live in central Iowa. The roads are straight and filled with bumps and potholes. My 2015 handles our roads great! I'm 230 with my gear and I just glide over the bumps with no problem. The throttle does suck, not gonna lie. I hate the twitchy feeling from it but i also love it too. I love that I can just blip the throttle and get thrown back. Tank grips are a must too btw. Also if you do want better brakes, just get steel braided lines. I like the stock setup more cuz I can just slowly ease into them without a problem. Adjustable clutch and brake levers are sweet too. All in all. I was scared to ride it when I got her Dec 2019. But now that I take her out daily, I hoon that shit everywhere I go. I am getting kinda bored with the high end acceleration but its rollin through the towns is where this thing acts like a starving caged tiger. 15,000 miles and still kickin like a mule too. Dude I promise. After a few upgrades, You'll shit yourself. And it may be cuz I'm 60lbs heavier than you but I took a 250+ miles trip last weekend to the Grotto of Redemption. That seat tore my ass up. Once i get some funds I'm gonna get a new seat for her. Again I'm so happy you got one. Maybe some day if you're in Iowa or I'm in Ohio, we could test out a stock vs modded Fz/Mt09? 2015 suspension vs 2020 suspension.

Yes, premium bikes like the Ducati and Aprilia cost more but less mods needed. You do not want to perform too many mods on a depreciating asset. Like comparing a Corvette vs a Ferrari or Lamborghini. You modify the cheaper corvette but not the Ferrari. Corvette the most bang for the buck like Yamaha but everyone really wants the Ferrari.

I was thinking of getting this bike recently, but ultimately went with the new BMW F900R. A little down on power and a heavier bike, but I couldn’t be happier with it. I needed a good all around bike to commute with and to also take on weekend trips to get away, as well as tackling the twisties during the week on my time off. The Beemer has some added features useful for touring like cruise control, great standard brakes and steering damper, and the TFT display is fantastic, but ya, was definitely looking hard at both the MT09 and new Kawi Z900. Hey cycle Cruiser I'm happy for you buddy, all modern bikes with fuel injection have that weird feeling in the throttle. When you map it it richens the fuel mixture, and take some of that slop out in the throttle response. Too Legit to Quit

Great purchase! You do have to tune these things though, after you get a pipe of course. That'll solve the on-off switch the throttle has.

I have a VTX 1800 too and it is a torque monster.that weighs between 700-800 lbs. You can ride mine if you're ever in the southwest. :)
