Hello Bryan, i love your videos, from the edit to the slowly and cleraly way you explain the fact. Did you get an Apple Watch GPS or GPS+cellular? I'm trying to decide what kind of series 8 buy but i'm uncertain.
Jumping from Series 5 44mm non-cellular to the Ultra. Love the size, the flat display, much longer battery life, exclusive face with the red night mode, titanium build and more rugged design, and it’s cellular by default. Went with Alpine Green strap for September 23rd delivery. ⌚️📫
Ultra is good but in my opinion it looks too chunky and it gives a toy like vibe tbh… for a sporty look and wear it’s fine. Whereas the stainless steel model especially the silver is too good for anything and everything especially if u are on formals…. Over all the stainless steel model is way more premium feeling as well as classy and minimal.
I will probably be jumping to the Ultra. We shall see. Sidenote, I absolutely love how you record your videos with the lighting, or lack thereof; looks really cool because you almost blend into your surroundings.
Wonderful video, I kept browsing through videos and I couldn’t find a true answer to what I was looking for. You put it in simple words, easy to understand and just great. I have the SE and was wondering if I should upgrade to one that would track my exercise, swimming and sleeping tracking. You got me sold on the 8. Thank you!
I feel you here. I went with the Ultra for only 2 reasons: 1. Better battery 🪫 life. 2. Larger display. If I could have ordered this in ALL BLACK, that would have been it. Maybe a hint of a red button. And damn you killed me on that HOME DEPOT ORANGE. Fell out my office chair.
Genius video bro! I saw your original Apple Watch video. Got a food scale, been working out with apple fitness+ and tracking food with my fitness pal, and I have lost 16 pounds in 6 weeks!!! Also - my wife & I are avid listeners of the podcast! 👊🏻
aye that’s so freaking amazing to hear! congrats on the progress and STAY AFTER IT🔥 also, SO STOKED you dig the podcast! we’re having lots of fun with it!
I ordered the series 8 regular instead of the ultra for many of the same reasons. The design of the ultra isn’t really something I’m into, the extra features compared to the series 8 I will never use, and the price is too high. I would like however, the bigger screen on a similar design as the 8, but also the more protective case that comes up and protects the edges as that is how I cracked my series 7. Maybe in the future 🙂
price is not high if you compared to Series 8 Steel + Cellular, they are almost the same. Yes, aluminum 8 with non-sapphire display is cheaper but ultra-doesn't come in aluminum, so we should not compare apples to oranges prices.
@@kostiantynsavostin3559 Of course the Ultra is better and thats why it's more expensive... But it's too expensive for stuff that is pointless, like a titanium body or water temperature sensor...
Upgrading from 6 series to an ultra. If I’m going to upgrade i want to get the best upgrade. I never had a titanium watch, i love the biggest model (like pro max), orange is one of my favorite colors, i needed longer battery life for my watch, brightness of the screen is also impressive, and it’s an investment that i think will hold its value. I was actually bored with the same designs. To each it’s own!!
I pre-ordered the Ultra and then I had time to consider it more closely and came to the same conclusions as yourself. Too big, unusual band selections, too expensive, too many features that I'd never use. I picked up a Midnight Apple Watch 7 at a nice discount. Maybe Apple will bring out something in-between the 8 and Ultra, something with more battery life but not a monstrosity.
First of all: your channel is awesome and the quality of your content is insanely good! 👍🏽 Looking forward to more of your videos! thanks to the RU-vid algorithm, this video popped up quiet late in my feed, however, I think the key message is still the same. I was using standard Apple Watches since the first generation, but what always made me crazy was the battery life. I use my Apple Watch 23,5 hours per day, I use it to track my workouts, for calls, for payments as well as for sleep tracking, as alarm and as a device to help me through my workday with meeting reminders and navigation. The issue always was, that the battery life of the standard version was on the edge every day and I constantly was thinking If I could even track my next workout or if it will last the night and wakes me up in the morning. I got the Apple Watch Ultra when it released and instantly the worries about the battery life were gone. When I leave the house at 6am in the morning and come back at 6pm in the evening, the watch is still around 75-80% of battery, which is insane.
Everyone asks me “how do you like the ultra” and I always tell them it’s not really worth it, get the series 8 and save yourself $400 dollars. The series 8 pretty much does the same thing for day to day use, like see who’s texted you, time, date, workout, weather and see who is calling. Plus there are so many more options for watch bands for the series 8 and other series. The titanium case doesn’t really match with a lot.
Yo Bryan been following your content for a minute, your weight loss journey and caloric deficit education is super easy to understand and has kept me set with my goals and i’m seeing massive progress. your editing and content is top tier. keep it up !!
I personally chose the 45mm Series 8 in Aluminium and this is my first ever Apple watch so I'm really excited because I work out almost every day so I'm definitely going to push this thing.
I just recently upgraded from an AW5 to AW7 because of the price reductions and I felt that the AW8 wouldn’t be a massive upgrade over the 7 which we learned was correct. I would prefer a future AW with the same 45mm size with a 36/60 hour battery life with some of those additional Ultra features. That’s something I think a lot of AW users definitely want in their next gen technology. Great channel and video as always!
I got the ultra few days ago but considering changing it for the series 8 charging it nightly doesn’t really bother me as the charger is near my PC and a 45 minute charge before bed ain’t going to hurt I love the Apple Watches but I’m a telecoms engineer dealing with fibre optic cable repairs and I tend to covet the watch to stop damage etc but then I find it pulls on the sleeve of my high visibility long sleeve t shirt Also when comparing the only difference I see between the two is longer battery slightly bigger display and dual gps and that horrible orange button on the side I’m in the UK and ordered it through my phone provider the ultra currently stands at £44 a month and the series 8 is £24 pound a month it’s half the cost for the same experience and it’s probably more comfortable
The battery man, that’s the main reason i got the ultra. It sucks that the apple watch series 1 all the way to series 8 still delivers the same 18 hour. I agree with you about the color, don’t know why apple couldn’t just make a black apple watch ultra, that would have sold a lot.
Twice the brightness at 2000 nits, twice the battery life and twice the global positioning accuracy = 100% yes for the Ultra, a no-brainer. What I dont like is the retained full pill box shape body (would have preferred an Omega Sea Master style/shape type body). Also absolutely dislike having that silly orange colour button - honestly a polished silver or stainless steel silver action button would have looked nicer. The sports bands look ugly, so it’s the dark ocean diver’s band for me along with an Alpine green adventure band as a spare alternative. But for the initial reasons mentioned, it’s gonna be the Watch Ultra… until such a time we finally get a smart watch (and smart phone) with “solid-state” rechargeable battery and microLED (not miniLED which is completely different) as this will be the final long overdue game changer.
Yer. I do your see your reasoning. However the 7/8 are essentially the same watch, so I may go for a refurbished 7. The design isn’t for me however, but it’s not aimed for me I suppose.
For what the ultra is designed for it excels, but it fails in battery management - 36 hours. Garmin Fenix 7 is better for the related activities. 27 days > 36 hours.
I had pretty Much the same rational thinking concerning the choice of my first Apple Watch that brought me to the SE 2. I’ve been inspired by the way you use the device and want to do the same in order to reach my goals 🤝
I’m upgrading from a 3 to the ultra. The aluminum case it pitted from sweat and job site debris from work. Other than that and the slower processor it’s still in top shape. So going forward I knew I needed a more robust case material. The ultra is 50.00 more than the stainless cased 8 so the ultra was a no brainer. 50 bucks more 100% brighter display, 100% more battery etc. was hard to pass up. Plus I like the more rugged look. Finally, with 0% interest on the Apple Card over 2 years it’s 38.00 a month including Apple care.
I’m going from the series 7 to the Ultra, because I want to be able to do two workouts, wear it the whole day AND use sleep tracking on one battery cycle 😂 also looking forward to worrying less about dinging my watch at the gym
@@therandomdude5217 well series 8 is £500. I can’t afford another 3 ft drop and smash..500 loss with a drop.ultra is 850£ but it has a protective rim , so that might be no smash no 500£ loss. Yadig?
I was thinking of updating my series 6 this year. Not enough of a changes from my series 6. Although I have a small scratch on my screen. I can live with it. Most people don’t even recognize it is there. Maybe next year we will get a redesign.
Thanks to your analysis I’ve decided to stop on series 8 and so far, week after, I have zero regrets on spending half the price ultraversion costs.. Thank you sm!!
I haven’t decided yet, but dust resistance and shock resistance are important to me. If I go with Ultra, that’s why. The 8 stainless costs the same, but seems more likely to break.
If you like the look of the Ultra then go for it. But then the stainless steel models especially the silver one looks way more premium, minimal and classy when compared to the chunky and sporty look of the ultra.
I’m upgrading from my series 5 to the Ultra. I’m pretty tough on my watches and my series 5 is pretty scratched up. I was planning on getting the stainless steel / sapphire series 8, but the extra battery life on the Ultra sealed the deal for what would be the same $799 price. I also hate the orange color (a lot), but the other benefits outweighed my nod to the Ultra. I wish the button color had options - it’s not like you couldn’t find the button without the color….
Battery life you have if you already own a Series 5…just pop your new one on the charger and switch to the other once a day. 😊 There ya go, an AW 7/8 saves you $350 toward a future Ultra when it’s no longer a wrist pig 🐷
Could you make a video breaking down your weekly workout routine? In the process of getting back into shape, love the way you explain things in your videos! Super simple and easy to understand.
I think the thing that may be a little frustrating for those of us who wear and use our Apple Watch daily is that, it seems like Apple really put a lot of time into a product for a very small demographic. I'm not exactly sure what they could have changed for those of us who just do traditional lifting/cardio, but I personally would've liked a redesign on the watch. I like the flat screen on the Ultra, just not everything else (Home Depot button.) I upgraded from Series 4 to Series 7 back in April and I would have been willing to upgrade already had they released a new design.
I think there's a big misconception that you must fit the extreme categories for the Ultra to be a good fit. It can reach those demographics due to the extreme temps and water depth though of course. The only reason I could see someone not wanting one is if it doesn't fit their budget, needs or the size and weight of it aren't to their preferences or fit their wrists properly. An SS Series 8 runs $750 alone, and it doesn't have the added durability and functionality of the Ultra (dual band GPS, added battery life, customizable action button, screen brightness, flat screen for easier readability, etc). I do think though for many people the Series 8 is a better fit. I find it more comfortable and it checks many of the boxes.
@@davedvdy4946 You're definitely right. I also think it's easy to make a judgement when you only see the product on a screen. I saw the Ultra in person since making the original comment and now I would be tempted to get the Ultra because the flat screen alone is something I prefer over the rounded screen.
Na, they've finally made something desirable. Before Apple Watches are just things you buy. Sure, you have The SS which was nice but the whole experience of buying the watch, opening it and the different style makes the watch desirable. Just like £150 running shows athletes wear. You buy these products because you want to do what they do. Marketing as this super extreme watch is getting people to want to seem like that extreme person. In reality, the people who Apple have advertised as wearing their watch will have their own dive computers, and will have watches already for multi day expectation. Like Garmin and Suunto.
@@tomwebb10 I've changed my mind some since my initial comment. Having seen and worn the watch in person, and having watched average people give their reviews, I like the watch. I just wish there was a 45mm version because the screen is too big for my personal tastes.
I'm personal going to go for the ultra purely due to it's longer battery life. If the low battery mode true it's even more worth to me nearly 3 days of not having to charge it is a big help.
I bought the Ultra for fashion purpose. I love the big looks kinda almost have the same size as the RM watch. Not a diver, nor an athletic, but it looks amazingly good with leather bands for formal outfits ;)
Loved your commentary and as a backcountry outdoorsman and into aquatics as well you actually sold me on the Ultra (love the traffic cone color button as well haha). Thank you for the comparisons
The reason why the apple watch ultra button is orange goes hand in hand with your example. A traffic cone can be seen from long way and clearly visible. So it makes sense to make the button the same colour.
Did you get the Aluminum case? I really like the graphite case but if I’m gonna spend 750$ for the 8 I may as well just do the Ultra. Do you prefer the Aluminum case over the Stainless steel? Thanks for any info!
I think that’s fair. The ultra is definitely designed for a special audience. Much more interesting instead of why you didn’t get the ultra though would be why you decided to upgrade to the Series 8. Which features distinguish it for you for what you use it for?
I’m so torn. I did order the Ultra but don’t really need it for the same reason. I like the idea of the larger screen and longer battery but it could look toolish when I’m wearing a suit.
I’m getting it, but totally agree on the orange! Just… why? It’s not like it’s hard to find. It doesn’t even need to be colored. It’s like the red trim on the crown of the cellular models. Do we really need to be constantly reminded that we own the cellular version? I’m an all black kinda guy too and would’ve loved to have gotten this in a dark titanium with a black band and without any color on the casing.
I’ve got an Apple Watch 6, which I love. I had upgraded from the series 2, so it was a significant leap. I plan to keep this watch another year. I may start marathon training next year, so I might be in the market for the Ultra 2, or whatever. I’d really like to have the battery life to last a marathon with all the features turned on.
Getting the Series 6 soon as my first Apple Watch. Considering no significant hardware changes except the screens, and how much cheaper they go second hand, I finally decided to try it out.
Great review. Thanks! I am a serious Apple Watch person. I also just ordered the Watch 8, upgrading from a Watch 4. The Ultra is very interesting, but a couple of things kept me from ordering it. First, I have to hold it in my hands before making a decision to buy, mostly because of the size. Second, I’m not sure the Ultra is something I could wear all day every day, again because of the size. When I can get to an Apple store to check one out I definitely will. Maybe next year.
I thought this was a good video...well done! I would point out, though, that the price comparison was a tad misleading. I had no problem with comparing the starting prices of both watches, but I think it could have gone a step farther and compared the price of an Apple Watch Ultra to the closest equivalent Apple Watch Series 8. If you'd done that, and spec'ed the Series 8 with stainless steel, 45mm size, and GPS+Cellular, you'd have a much closer price gap between the two. Just my $0.02 worth.
Out of topic question Bryan, where did you get the plate with the built-in scale in your "how to get shredded in 5 minutes" video? Love the content man, keep grinding and you'll get the yt algo breakthrough!
Great job Sir! I think the Ultra's pretty cool, but like you, I don't ever see myself using it's features. I don't dive, mountain climb, or run distances (2 torn ACLs took care of that). My wife and I both have Series 4 watches and plan on treating ourselves to 8s for Christmas. Thanks for the great review.
I only want the ultra for the bigger screen. If they made an 8 with the 49mm I’d be all over that, but it appears that I will be upgrading to the ultra only for the bigger screen
The Display isn't that much bigger - the case is. The Series 7 / 8 will be looking much more modern but that's how it should be as the Ultra is a rugged watch. The Bezels are much more noticable here.
I’m not upgrading from the series 6. The series 8 chip is the same chip from the series 6 and the enhancements aren’t enough of a bang to change. Maybe the series 9 or 10 will make a splash.
HEY AFTER USING THE SERIES 6 DID UR BATTERY DEGRADE OR IS IT JUST FINE THE BATTERY IS THE ONLY DECIDING FACTOR I HAVE Edit: srry forgot to put the heart emoji ❤❤❤❤
I’m getting the ultra. Minus the orange button I sort of like it.. I’ve been with the series 4 for years now so maybe I just want something different.. plus I wish the 45 was a little bigger so I’m anxious to try the 49. Bands are trash though. Most likely change em out
@@BryanAdamCastillo You can use any 42-45mm band with it though. I have a feeling it will look pretty cool with something like the stainless link bracelet.
I’m in the same boat. Have had a series 4 for years and now ready to upgrade. I can’t take the 10 minute boot up times anymore. Love the bulkier, more manly look of the Ultra.
Just started to follow you. I bought the ultra as an mountain biker who doesn’t want to worry to break the watch. Also, I do a lot of outdoor activities and the ultra seems to make sense to buy for that purpose. Now I also I’m a swimmer who swims 2x a week. Ultra watch provides a confident wear for people who will more likely scratch or even break the watch. It’s a watch for those will pay for a strong construction device. For those who are not in this category make sense to buy series 8 if they are upgrading from series 6 or older.
Yep. I love the G-shock family, and have been rocking them since the early 80s. So absolutely. It's already pre-ordered and on its way to my happy wrist. The basic simple sleek small little Watch SE just isn't cutting it for those that like the increased battery life, increased brightness, increased durability, etc which I want from a watch that I want to take everywhere, and not worry if I am going to hurt the poor little thing.
Great video! Curious which case you choose on the 8? This will be my first Apple watch and I’m undecided between the aluminum and SS. Is the SS more durable for working out?
Great fun! I am an AW guy forever who changed to Garmin FR955 just 2 weeks before the Ultra launch. I need recovery/readiness stats (not a runner), and decided beforehand that I would not pay double for slightly more battery life. Already owning an AWS6 cellular, S8 does not excite me at all. Ultra excites me, but the price …
I got the ultra because, while I want something that looks nice, I mostly want something that lasts overal, battery, it is more protected, and we’ll, that is going to last me about another 5 years. I’m upgrading from the serious 3. I never found a reason to upgrade as all the Apple Watches have been the same, even now. If the ultra wouldn’t have come out, I would of stuck with the series 3
I ended up making the same decision as yours series 6 to series 8. My battery in my 6 is really starting to tank. Ultra is just too big for my wrist, as much as I would love that extra battery. What made my decision harder is I went with the 8 in stainless steel which is only $100 less then the ultra haha
The stainless price is what made me go for the ultra. 45mm Stainless model with a premium watch band is the same price as the Ultra. I prefer the stainless look, but I couldn't justify paying the same price for so many less features and battery life. I'm just going to keep my S5 stainless to dress up, and the Ultra for normal day to day use. I'm 6'5 so it shouldn't be too big on me. But I can definitely see it being too big for most people who want it for daily use
I don’t need cellular data on my watch, since I’d never ever go out without my phone inside my pocket. The titanium case is pointless if you’re going to be at least a tiny careful with your watch. All the extra whistles of the ultra are for a specific target of sportsmen I’m not really part of. So yea, I better save $370 and get the 45mm Series 8.
I knew it. You would get the standard version only. Because we only like the fitness aspect of the watch. Not those extra fancy things ultra offers sheesh 🤙🤘
The thing that put me off on the Ultra was the colors. They did not offer any feminine colors. I love to hike and backpack in the backcountry but I also would like other color options or even the button color.
“Home depot orange” 😂😂 the ultra is clunky AF… it’s a no for me.. I love the sleek look of the traditional AW. I have series 6 probably will upgrade to a 7 at some point… but for now still sticking with the series 6… Until the apple watch Galactic comes out😂😂😂
I went for the Apple Watch Series 8 because I love the bigger display. I don’t need the Apple Watch Ultra because I don’t go on adventures and I’m not an adventurer. I just got the Apple Watch Series 8 45mm Midnight because I love the black color. I absolutely love my new Apple Watch Series 8. I love it!
Great content Bryan. Congratulations. Could you make a video about heart rate zones? I can't trust 100% in the automatic option of my apple watch and I don't know how to modify it yet. I think it would be very useful
I went from the series 4 to the watch ultra , although it made me happy for a while because I love gadgets it really did get to a point where I ask myself what really could the series 4 not do that the ultra is doing better when it comes to my day to day activities ? The only sport I go every week is hitting the gym , the only time my watch ever gets into water is during bath , I never go hiking nor mountain climbing , aside from the cool luxurious bulky look the watch ultra just stays on my wrist , reading heart rate ( especially during workout ) , tracks my sleep and getting notifications. I regret getting the Ultra now but “ Hey 😁 it gives the satisfaction when I first got it “
Just decided to order a Ultra. I’ve currently got a series 4 non-cellular (e-sim wasn’t available until the S6 in my country). I was just going to get a stainless steel S8 but for the small difference in price I was happy to get the extra battery life and durability.
The SE doesn't have the blood oxygen sensor or the always on display, I personally still see the Series 8 or even Series 7 as a good middle of the road/compromise.
Very useful comparison Bryan. Was looking at both of these so good to hear your views, particularly because I’d have similar use for it as you. Loved the bit at the end, “built with Lego…” 😂😂
I truly appreciate your comments and you’re a narrative on that story on the regard of both watches and I totally agree after deep study. I have decided we also have help me on it. I truly appreciate it. I wish you good luck
Finally!!! A video of why someone didn’t jump onto the “I’m buying the biggest and the best” bandwagon. I’ve been a Fitbit watch user for many years and after their products crashing at the 2 year mark, and weeks of back and forth with their customer service team, I’m looking at the Apple Watch. I’ve had an iPhone ever since the 3 came out, and absolutely despise anything Android. I’ve been researching the health metrics of the Apple Watch and found myself debating between the Series 8 and the Ultra. The pitiful 18 hour battery life is what’s actually been keeping me from buying the Series 8 already. I was tempted by the 36 hour battery life of the Ultra, but the extra $400 makes my wallet pucker. Besides, those extra features don’t really factor into my lifestyle. However, I actually love the colors of the Ultra. The Home Depot orange (as you call it) button on the side is kind of cool. You are right about being able to customize the button color though. Apple could’ve made a small fortune just on buttons. As for the video itself, I appreciate the low light and straight to the point content. And the addition of outtakes/bloopers at the end was pretty cool. Thanks for such a great video!
Personally, I still have my 44mm series 4 and I’m perfectly content with it! Battery life is fine for the day, and unless they have managed to make their device 99% accurate in tracking movement throughout the day, which is what I also use it for, then I don’t feel the need to get a new one unless this one breaks.
Just made a jump from a series 6 44mm to a series 8 45mm. The Ultra was just way too massive (and mind you, my wrist is big) + that titanium grey is not really my style either (I also wear black all the time). I’m happy with the 8, I’ve learned to appreciate it’s minimal design throughout the years I’ve spent wearing the series 6 one.
Great, I went to the Apple Store today and I was looking to upgrade my series 6 to Ultra, but I was not happy for what i saw with the Ultra. 8 It's a good option, but it looks the same as the series 6 don’t what to do. hahaah
I’m getting the Apple Watch Ultra because I live only half mile from lots of spots for hiking, camping, fishing, exploring a national forest or red rock canyon here in Utah.
I have my series 6, which I had upgraded to from the series 2. 😅 I tend to stick with my watch for a while, and upgrade my phone more often. I love the 8 but I’ll stick with the 6 for now. Oh also, 🖤. I want to be pretty cool.
