After unboxing my iPhone 6 a short while ago, I had a lot of requests to cover the reasons for ditching my HTC One M8. This video is very detailed, covering both pros and cons of the device. It's important to remember while watching that all of these points are simply my opinion and the final conclusion is a result of the impaired usability of the device due to the points discussed.

HTC has kinda lost its mojo these days compared to the One X days imo, and the M9 is even worse. I consider myself obsessed with smartphones (a "phone enthusiast" if you will) and I've always preferred iPhones for several different reasons (probably because my first smartphone was an iPhone). I love the Apple blend of quality that shines throughout every area of the device. Android phones in general have been somewhat lacking, especially for the past year or so. Hopefully next year we'll see better phones coming out, especially with the tossing out of the craptastic SoC that is the Snapdragon 810.

RAM management is the biggest one that comes to mind, and just generally fucking up here and there. For example, after my friend restored his Nexus 7 to give to me for a short time, the setup app would constantly crash. Had to reflash the tablet to get it to work. Shit like that

I've never had any problem like that with any iPhone I've ever had. And I've had a lot of iPhones.

Lol planned obsolescence, here we go again It's actually called "the economical and engineering costs of having an easily removable battery outweighed the benefits." At least with the iPhone (and especially the 6s), it is very durable. Have you seen these torture tests people have done? It's also very repairable compared to a lot of other phones...the screen can be removed in 10 minutes, and the battery in another 10. Sure, you can't pop a cover off and pull it out, but honestly how often would you do that anyway? I've replaced screens and batteries on several iPhones and it's pretty damn easy if you're not an idiot.

I totally agree. HTC One M8 is a great vlogging phone, I use mine for vlogging at least once or twice a week.

Same. I like mine, and it does great for Vlogging and watching RU-vid, but multitasking on it is a bit difficult recently.

I have to admit I've had a sort of similar experience with my One M7. The first one took all right (if a bit hazy) images, sorta like what you said happened with your M8. Later the USB port ended up getting damaged (although I'm unsure if that was the fault of the phone or the Hub I plugged it into) and later stopped working all together. The replacement I got back has a more or less unusable camera as most of the pictures I take with it have a horrible green tint/haze to them, which is a pain to fix in post. That said, I do like the weight, especially when compared to the iPhone 6 which feels too light, almost like it's hollow on the inside or anything.

Hey Tom awesome video! Like you I have very little interest in phones and subsequently only use mine for basic tasks such as phone calls, texts, emails etc. I have no interest in the 'latest app' or the latest 16 core phone as I find it all so unnecessary. As long as my phone works reliably thats all I want. Gosh the issues you have had with your HTC are terrible, a lot even get in the way of it doing the basic tasks it was meant to do as a phone (private phone calls, texting) etc and I can see why you have decided to ditch it. I'm honestly disappointed with the direction of HTC in this day and age. I had the M7 and it had pretty much the same cons that you listed in the video. I had the black version and the paint would scratch off so easily and begun pealing not even 2 weeks after I owned the device. That being said my current phone is the 2nd Gen Moto X and I am very happy and only paid about $170 USD for it.

I actually bought the m8 but the UPS guys must've banged it and the screen was shattered. Few days later there was a great sale on the iPhone 6 with contract so I opted for that instead. Its a great phone albeit a fragile little thing. Much too fragile for my uses. Anyway I'm happy with my decision but I've been wondering about the HTC only because I was excited about the handset but never got the chance to play around with it. Im really enjoying your channel! I’m never really glued to my home either, I bought an iPhone 5S a couple years back and I don’t do much other than text and call people I feel so much more connected with people around me than people in my family do

I like my One M8, but my problem with it is that it doesn't multitask well, it lacks a removable battery (which I should have thought about, given my usage habits), and it gets really hot.

You also have notification led on iOS inside accessibility

it turns the flash into a pseudo notification led, but you have to have your phone facing down and it doesn't represent charging or show different colors. also the insane brightness is highly annoying especially in the car at night.

i liked my m8 but i had a few complaints aswell but i rooted and put a custom rom on it first day but when its time to upgrade again i will probably get a samsung i really like there new devices and im not into modding devices as much as i used to be.

I'm switching to the Moto X because of the 6 plus has a highly inaccurate autocorrect which causes most of my frustration, you can't set chrome to be the browser that siri uses, so I can't open links with siri or some other hyperlinks too. The battery used to be good, but now I can hardly get through a day of regular use. I also hate how you get buzzes multiple times for a message if you don't check it immediately, which is a distraction while driving. Also touch ID only works about 50% of the time. Not to mention when you're doing some intense social networking the screen becomes unresponsive. Funny thing is, all this started happening right after the 6s came out, so i'm pretty sure Apple is up to no good by causing the previous generations to slow down in an attempt to get people to upgrade.

I have the M8 more than a Half year and the speakers stills impress me. You have to clean it with a brush, because it enters some dirt in the grills and then It sound lower dude... Its que not because the speakers degrade....

Just make sure you put a case on your iPhone 6 because the body is no where near as strong as the M8 from what I've learned

Tom, before you sell your HTC send it into an authorized HTC service centre. HTC offer a 24 month warranty on most devices in most parts of the world and you may even be offered a replacement unit (refurbs but have new batteries and housings). Give them a laundry list of common faults and 99% of the time they'll change most components (LCD's and motherboards get thoroughly tested however). Small stuff like, speakers, batteries and charging connectors get a quick test but are often changed out anyway under warranty to be safe (if they are suspected to be faulty by the customer!) Trust me, a phone thats just been refurbished by HTC WILL sell for a fair amount more than one thats used..

The only reason that you will ditche the HTC One M8 its because of the rear Camera. The other specs is better than the iPhone 6... And HTC One M8 marshmallow updated started to roll out two weeks ago.

lol idk about most android phones but wanna talk about degrading headphones, my iphone headphones jesus i push them as loud as the internal macbook speakers(not in my ears :P) with a program called ohm studio in steam (pm me if someone wants to know how to do this), but anyways how do these things still work it is ridiculous, i am not lying i will make a video if anyone is interested, they haven't degraded much after a year oddly. also talk about the notification light check out the windows phone with their glance screens.

LOL... "Its only tech". Even i find uses for my old phones/ computers. Hell, i even have an AMD Athlon 64 machine from around 2001, and still working as my parent's pc 14 years later.

Yay someone else agrees with my opinion with Micro - USB. It just sucks and needs to die out. Lightning connectors and Usb-c are both much better standards.

the htc is also getting mashmellow and has good build quality , what i meen is when he first bought it he said the xperia z2 had waterproofing and better camera which would have served him better.

So few things. One reason why the double tap to wake gesture might not work is the power saving mode. It uses some cpu so it might be that HTC forgot to allow gestures run in the deep sleep when power saving is enabled. Second thing is that the phone price as used. Any high-end phone other than Apple is an horrible investment. You lose 20% of the value when you walk out of the store and you are like if you get 10% of the original price when you sell it two years later. Usually older flagships are not worth anything because they are not supported anymore. Sometimes even rooting and installing custom rom is not helping. So they are really bad investment.

+craft alot There are a lot of things Android phones do better than Apple phones. There are a lot of things Apple phones do better than Android phones. Apple is better to you, it suits your needs. But it doesn't for everyone. It's all subjective to your perspective and needs.
