Just an old method on turning a denim jacket black without fabric dye.
No it will not come off.. yes you can hand and machine wash it.. no do not put it in your mom's dryer.
yes the paint breaks in after you wear it and it gives the denim a thicker almost leather/rubber like texture.

One thing not to do is dry it with a hair dryer. I learned this the hard way. The heat from the dryer will heat press the paint into the jacket and make it unbelievably stiff. Be sure to just air dry it over night or wait a few hours before doing a second coating. Do the same for the second coating as well. Also, make sure when it dries that the jacket is not wrinkled because you'll have permanent stiff wrinkles in the jacket afterward (Then again, this was after I heat pressed the paint). I'm about to do a second vest here this weekend and hopefully I get it right this time. Oh! And make sure to put thin evenly painted coating on. I made the mistake of dousing my jacket with paint and it was unwearable. Be patient, it'll work out. I'd also suggest painting some samples if you have some scrap denim around.

I noticed the issue with "black" cloth dye is that it's deep deep blue (it's just meant to give your faded black clothes back to a clacker state) so I mix black and brown fabric dye and voila ! It worked well from me honestly, but this glossy "rubbery" finish is really cool, what'q the paint I don't recognize the b bottle we don't have that in France I don't think. Or I was thinking painting with linogravure paint which is supposed to stay on fabric on even with screen printing ink (but it's not the same price I suppose).

@dovelugosi
@dovelugosi 2 года назад
@@dogboydove you won't like my answer 😅 it depends of the colour of the clothes at first if it's more on the cool/blue/purple side I'd say 60% real black dye and the rest real chocolate brown, I'd it's more one the warmer side (red, orange, tallow, brown etc) I'd say only 10% brown and the rest black dye. I would say an orange shirt wouldn't need any brown. And dye brands differ as well. Chromatic circle code 😉 sorry I hope I helped even a little bit. What colour are the pants ? Edit : like when you bleach your hair it's brassy/yellowish so you need to tone it with a blue-purplish. That's the same idea.

@@dogboydove ouch I don't like that "pale" 😅😉 so I would advice 30 % chocolate brown (there is a bit of blue in chocolate brown) and the rest pure black dye. I have this a go on some faded blue discount jacket from a thrift store and underestimated the amount I'd need for a sleeveless jacket. I found a method that worked like a charm :D All I did was roll the jeans up as tightly as possible, put them in a plastic bucket (~5 litres capacity) pour boiling water over them and leave them covered with a pot lid overnight, then let dry completely on a radiator. They feel so much softer and easier to wear, and they're still waterproof :D To anyone else reading, you should try other methods of breaking them in with lower heat first, but this worked as a last resort for me🖤🖤

I tried this on my jacket with the exact same brand of paint. It's drying right now, but whenever I bend the fabric it cracks a bit and you can see the underlying white fibers slightly. Is this something I should be worried about or will it go away once I break it in? I just did 2 normal/thin-ish layers
@reptil_diy

Don't touch it while it dries, you might possibly need a third light layer. Once it is dry you wear it for a few weeks and it breaks in. It goes from a stiff crunchy feel to a rubber/leather feel.

Would regular black acrylic paint work if I didn't want the glossy texture, or at least have it not as strong, the only black dye that's available near is me shit and is basically gone after washing two times so this seems like a good alternative, but I want normal black denim
@reptil_diy
@reptil_diy 2 года назад
So when you buy acrylic paint you have a gloss or a matte option. Even my "gloss" black acrylic paint eventually settles down to just regular black after wearing it for awhile. I would highly recommend the acrylic paint route instead of dying it black. Just remember it will be thick at first but give yourself a week or two to break it in. Once you break in the paint the black is not going nowhere! What are you planning on painting btw? A denim jacket or pants?
