Why I FAILED at Capturing The 2024 Solar Eclipse

On April 8th, 2024, I did NOT capture the solar eclipse, and there are a few mistakes I made that led to this. In this video, I want to go over what I did wrong and how you can avoid making these mistakes on your next solar eclipse.

Most important factor is clear weather You could have shot totality without any filter The partial phases are boring shots Location location location and clear weather are number one

Had the weather cooperated, you would have gotten some decent results. Can't control the weather! I posted a video about my experience and while I was not in the path of totality, it was still really cool and I had a lot of fun using gear that I don't normally use. See you in Iceland too 😉

Yeah true. Although my solar film definitely degraded the quality. The results with a proper filter would’ve been much better. But in the end it didn’t end up mattering anyways

Why didn't you stack nd filters?

That could kind of work but creates its own set of issues when trying to capture the sun. I did tests where I stacked my 7 stop and 5 stop ND and the difference between that and what the solar filter did were very different

@@DelaneyMedia been doing astrophotography for about 12 years now, it's standard practice to stack ND filters.
