A few years ago I got lazy and stopped trimming. Bad, BAD idea. Now I'm back on a schedule, but like you instead of strictly going by what's normally recommended, I just look at my ends and chop if I see splits or ssk. At least twice a year I do a more thorough trim to help catch the parts I've missed, and that seems to be working so far! I do like a shape though, so I trim with the intention of creating a V. 😊

Hi Esther, Thanks for your comment! I am so glad that you found out what works best for your specific head of hair. I think that's something that a lot of people miss

I used to be an “every 3 months” trimmer. But recently, like 6 months ago I’ve decided to cut down to every 6 months, so twice a year. This is actually my first time trying it, I haven’t had a trim since October and I actually have one scheduled this weekend so we’ll see what it looks like. I also wear my hair stretched now so like you, my criteria has just changed. I get a lot less tangles and dry ends now than when I was wearing a wash and go every day.

I wish this video was out before I cut my daughter hair. She have really long hair at age 6. For some reason I thought it was getting thin at the ends so I cut it.

Love your channel! I went through something similar. My ends would damage and split again very soon after trimming. But then I accidentally started wearing a style that kept my hair wet for days and noticed a change in my hair health. Then I started doing it intentionally. If my ends were really dry I would baggy them with water and castor oil and it was better than any deep conditioner for me. I was able to go much longer between trims and cut off a lot less. One other thing I started incorporating was a chelating shampoo. I had extremely hard water and noticed that shampooing with a chelating shampoo every few months helped my hair better absorb water. ❤

Thank-you for your comment! It's so nice to hear that other people have had similar experiences! I've never heard of chelating shampoo. I'll have to look into it

Thanks for this! I told myself I'll trim once every 6 months, so twice for the year. But since I have my hair in twists 99% of the time, I've found that there isn't much need for the trim when the time comes. So I think I'm deciding to just focus on snipping off fairy knots as I feel them, and trim once for the year when the ends may start to look a little straggly. I don't know what's my take on split ends, because I've never seen any on my hair, I've never observed it. (Doesn't mean I don't have though...) I'd like to know, what's your take on split ends? 😮
@ifshesopleases
@ifshesopleases Год назад
Hi Paula Thanks for your comment! My take on split ends is that honesty I don't notice them anymore 😅 They are there but I don't notice lol SSK on the other hand... They have to go lol

@@ifshesopleases THIS IS SO HELPFUL. I search and destroy split ends, partly because they are an OCD trigger for me, but also because I believed it would get me to your length. I am going to try my best to ignore them!!

Same i trim every six months now because i used to get so paranoid about fairy knots and split ends so i would trim like every 1 or 2 months but i wasn't retaining any length. Our hair is gonna have little fairy knots everywhere regardless of whether we can see them or not we don't check each individual strand to look for fairy knots and split ends and they're definetly there its all about maintaing your hair and doing a routine that works for you. Also keep your hair protected in whichever style suits you best ! 💕

I’m going to try this. So the last trim I’ve done was in June of this year of 2023. More recently notice it seems like my hair has visibly grown some. I attribute that to a wholistic approach of exercise, diet, keeping my hair moisturized, and in protective styles where my ends are tucked away. Since before I was trimming and or dusting my hair about 3-4 times a year, as far as length I wasn’t retaining much length, about 2.5-3 inches overall a year. So that tells me I could have retained almost twice as much, maybe even 6 inches a year if I stop cutting it so much. And you’re right, everyone has parts that grow faster or slower. So imma just hold tight and continue my wholistic approach and dust my ends once or twice a year. Thank you for sharing 😊🤩 Your hair is beautiful ❤

Fine and coarse are opposites when referring to hair. Coarse is when the hair strands have a larger diameter. Coarse hair is difficult to cut/style as it doesn’t bend easily. Fine hair has thinner individual strands. Fine hair can’t be coarse. It may be tightly curled, delicate…dry, tangled or damaged, but not coarse.💕

Literally everything you mentioned is my hair except I'm more 4b/4c with a little 4a in the back, and maybe that's why my hair grows the longest in the back. I'm literally where you were when you felt like your hair wasn't getting anywhere because of trimming crispy ends too often. I totally forgot about the green house method but apparently I need to get back to the basics! This was very reassuring, thanks!!!

I’ve recently started noticing gaps in my hair too but I wasn’t sure if it was because I haven’t clipped my ends in a few years or if it was because I’m having health problems. Can, not clipping your ends cause the hair gaps ?

I just cut my ends just this morning. My ends were sticking together, and I could see the broken off pieces as well as the splits 😞 I took off two inches and my hair feels great. I have issues going for long periods of time without trimming even though my hair is mostly in twists. I think it’s because of having medium to fine strands. I’m going to try and remedy my need to cut so much by introducing a good detangler and hot oil treatments for brittleness. I already finger detangle and wear twists most often.

I blow out my hair so i can see what needs cutting. I do it every 4mos if its really bad bcus dusting which is what you did doesn't get the problem solved. Once my ends are even. I go to once or twice a yr as maintenance so the problem doesnt reoccur. I part my hair and even it up in sections. Bcus i hate the tangeling ends i cut them bcus its the thin old pieces that cause split ends and tangeling. Its hair sis it grows daily so you wont notice the amounts if you cut a half inch quarterly then go to biannually for maintenance.

Help what to do I have fairy knots to me they will always be there am I wrong or not. Do I have to trim these fairies every 8 weeks Soo unfair what to do 😢
@denyshadials5702
@denyshadials5702 4 дня назад
Yes, they’ll always be there, long hair, short hair, straight, stretched, or completely shrunken. They’re a natural part of our hair. They don’t inhibit length retention. If you grow your hair bone straight to the floor…they’ll still be there. Trim your hair to 1) remove damage (split ends) or 2) change your shape/how it falls (natural growth pattern or breakage). Don’t worry about the fairy knots.

I think you're one of the few RU-vidrs I watch with extremely similar hair to mine in terms of texture, curl pattern, how it grows out, how thick it looks, etc... Mine is just much shorter than yours. You have helped me so much with your videos because my hair seems to respond to hair care similarly, even when it comes to trims. I'm always given this impression that even hair all-round means it's healthy but my hair has always seemed to grow at different rates even after a trim. Thank you!❤ Would you ever consider doing a blowout video?

I have to try this method. Only trim once a year , and trim the ends of the Single strand knots 🪢 is too much or if it’s necessary to be cut. I have trimmed of my hair sooo much , I wish this video came out 6 years ago
