I had to get a new truck due to problems with the new Chevy Silverado 1500 with the 3.0 turbo Duramax diesel not working like it should. Luckily I was able to get back home and my local Chevy dealer helped me out.

Probably important to note the having a RU-vid channel probably helped with getting into a new truck. Had that happened to anyone else a Chevy dealer would have probably left them out in the cold with a broken truck and a massive wait time to get it repaired..

I've driven a diesel pickup since 2001. Ever since the emissions kicked in in 2008 they've been trash. My last 3 diesel have been in the shop dozens of times for warranty work. The 2017 I just traded in was in the shop 11 times. I just got a 2020 ford super duty with the 7.3 gas engine and so far it's been excellent. I test drove a brand new 2020 chevy 2500 HD with 27 miles on the Odometer and the check engine light came on 3 miles from the dealership.

No way I'd buy a modern diesel. Ever since they added the cat pee tank, they are totally unreliable-doesn't matter who made it.

Joshua Fuller DEF system has cut visits to my shop. There are DEF heater issues with the system but the reliability has gotten way better. I see many trucks for normal services with more than 100k miles and never an emissions issue. I live in a rural area and the trucks are all driven several miles and are not short trip golf course queens. The emissions gear HAS to have some distance with some load and heat to work as intended. The ones I do see of all three brands with emissions issues are driven slow, don’t tow, and have high idle hours.

@@jimmyaber5920 Boy, that hasn't been our experience out here in Kansas. There are a few "city boy" diesels, but most of them spend their lives having their guts pulled out. Lots of warranty claims, and hold on to your socks if it's out of warranty. Many of the trucks end up having the DEF system removed(not cheap and not legal). It's pretty scary when a malfunction can leave you running 4mph on the Interstate pulling a cattle trailer. Pre-DEF diesels bring a serious premium out here.

Rooftop tent would mean he’d have to pack up camp every time he wanted to launch his boat. I think a regular tent would suit him better. But I would throw a solar panel on that rack and then the fridge could run all the time and he could always have cold crisp beverages waiting.

I gotta tell you as a service manager at a GM dealer I appreciate you sticking with them through your troubles. I'm glad they got you looked after and got you into a new rig. All auto makers occasionally have a dud roll off the line. You'll love the 10 speed transmission, got the same one in my new truck and it is smooth like butter. Cheers from Canada!

Love the truck. I myself have 4000 miles on my 2020 CC Z71 3.0 diesel. Love it best mpg was 33.6 cruise at 65

I stepped up to a 2019 GMC Denali 2500 with the L5P Duramax and it's a beast. I've had zero issues with it. Very comfortable and powerful. You get used to the size of driving a big truck.

As for the chickens, there is a food pellet that I use to feed my chickens for egg production, worked great check with your local feed store. Another thing you might want to consider is a rooster to help with egg production.

I asked the same thing He certainly didnt give details. He made it sound like they "Helped him out", but to some people that might mean they just sold him a new truck and helped him by buying his lemon. Trading in a lemon would never be so easy for us regular folks. Dealers try every which way possible to avoid having to lemon law buyback a vehicle, in my experience.

@@thechevysilveradotec I understand that, but this truck has certainly spent that long in the shop since he purchased it with check engine light problems that were never really solved. No matter what was tried it always came back and the truck wouldn't drive. I would imagine that all of those drive-ability code issues we the result of this transmission that finally gave up the ghost. Perhaps the did trade it out as a lemon but JR never clarified that.

You need to experience yourself a second generation Ford Raptor. I love my 2018. As long as you don’t need to pull 10-12k, it’s great. Lots of power, lots of low end torque, decent fuel economy, unparalleled off-road capability from the factory, pretty much everything you need. Love the vids man, keep it up 👍

@@watchmanexpert yes actually… there’s been multiple emission codes thrown, randomly, and then they clear. I’m not sure what it is. Dealership never seems to fix anything but they usually clear out on their own within a couple weeks

They really helped you out, no doubt damage control because your so big on RU-vid, but still, good on them. My brother had a 2018 LTZ suburban and it was a POS still has it and they just keep telling him it’s something different every time so he couldn’t Lemon law it, and now he’s stuck with it🤷🏼‍♂️

Yep they did the same thing to me with my 2018 GMC Sierra. 4 new transmissions in 18k miles, but it was something different every time so I couldn’t lemon law it.

I am guessing it was probably under the TX Lemon Law, and with it well documented here on YT it probably helped out in this case. Soon LFG will be adding on a Travel Trailer for the camping. SO much easier with the kids.

I got my truck back, also a 3.0L Diesel, and it turned out to be a rolled O-Ring on the high pressure fuel pump. Truck is been running fine since I got it back but I can not seem to get over 25 mpg. I guess I need to find some flatter highway with less traffic. Looking forward to towing a boat with the truck. Glad to hear you got a replacement. During the time my truck was in service I did some research and the fuel savings from the Diesel get wiped out by the 150k maintenance to replace the fuel pump belt. I am still happy with the truck so far and the ACed front seats is a game changer in Texas.

My grandpa had a chevy 2500 HD that he used to pull his fifth wheel and he loved it. He had previously had a gas truck and when he got the 2500 he immediately noticed a difference in power and miles per gallon and never had any problems with it the entire time he had it.

I have a 1500 6,2L Trail Boss Z71 Midnight Edition and I love it, I tow with it all the time. I have the integrated trailer brakes and towing package with the hitch view and trailer tire pressure and temp sensors, 420HP and 460 lb-ft of torque and i cant tell im pulling a boat, I sometimes have to look and make sure its still there because i expected to feel a bump or something that i didnt. If you went to the 6.2 I really dont think youd dislike it

I just bought the 2021 Duramax and I love it. I put 1000 miles on it in two weeks. Haven't put my boat behind it yet but will tomorrow cold or not cold. I live on Big Sam Rayburn and need to get out there. Not supposed to be so windy tomorrow. So time to try my new Garmin too.

I work for Toyota in Jackson Tennessee, the engine block plant. We cast the engine blocks for the new Tundras, but it still can't compete with the 3.0 duramax. I'm seriously considering buying the GM 1500 Silverado or Sierra

Add a little red pepper flake to your chicken food to keep egg production up in the winter. It seemed to work for me and my chickens loved it.

My 2017 F150 5.0l gets 17.2 mpgs with a 2000 lb pop up truck camper AND towing my aluminum bass boat. I don't have to pay for diesel fuel that is more expensive, maintenance that is more, or DEF that costs money. It was also way less money out the gate than a diesel option. Did I mention it also doesn't break down, that's pretty handy.

Oh man 100%, diesel was the best decision I ever made. I'm a big Audi person, 2001 A4 - 2006 A4 - 2014 Q5 TDI. Back in 2014 I drove the 3.0 TDI Q5.. ever since then I was feening for that torque... Finally I bought one and every day I'm just loving it. 428 ft-lbs in a SUV I get 55-60mpg on the highway 38-40 in city. Congrats on the new new truck.

Give your chickens some spicy food and it will jump start their laying. Also get a solar light so in the winter you can supplement the light to keep them laying more. Also I’m from Texas as well bought a truck from Classic Chevy when they had a dealership in Granbury.

I've had bad problems with both my 2019 ford diesesl traded for a dodge and has had even more problems. To many electronics in new diesels. The mechanics told me that they never repair used/ off the lot with new parts, they use rebuilt until warranty runs out. That's from the dealer mechanic.

I have the Chevy Colorado diesel. I love the torque. It is so cool to climb a big hill on the hwy and it doesn’t downshift. No screaming gas engine. Downshifting all the time. Great tow rig to. Amazing mileage 30-32mpg Don’t want a gasser any more...

Hope this truck work out for you. Reasons like you've experienced is why I would never buy a vehicle with a new powertrain when it first comes out. There's always issues no matter the make and model that engineers didn't catch that only show up after theres a larger test group. I would suggest waiting until the second or third year of the new powertrain to give them time to fix a majority of the issues

All modern half ton diesels are garbage due to emissions. That's why I went with the 5.3 gas. 0 issues on my 2020 LTZ! I can deal with burning more gas and higher revs while towing the boat. Hope you have better luck with this one!

He man! Love your videos about your truck. I’m definitely look at the new 3.0 diesel because I race and I want that low end torque. The new engine makes me nervous but the 10 speed also. They are both so new you never now what your getting. I like that your sticking with the same motor and no giving up and getting a different one.

Chuck a dual battery system in. Got a 45ltr engel in the back of my bus runnin 24/7. Grog is always cold👍

Good Luck on the this one mate ,, on the fridge side of things its going to use more power than you think during the day especially in the back of a hot truck , I advise buying the dometic cover as well or in ur case get them to send you one ,,lol it will keep it cooler therefore using less power as well as protecting your fridge ,,and was that a bottle of kahlua I spied in the fridge? lol

3k miles on my GMC 3.0L Duramax. So far so good. I've towed ~7k a few hundred miles too without issue, but it does drink the DEF while towing, which is to be expected. I've used one tank of DEF so far with about 600 of 3k miles towing.

I had a Dodge Ram that went into limp mode when the fuel was really low. Would go over 30 mph. Hated/loved it because I knew it was deff time to fuel up asap. Lol.

I have a GMC Sierra with the 3.0 Duramax and I’ve been putting 200+ miles a day on it since I picked it up on Jan. 31. It’s the best driving/riding truck I have ever owned. And trouble free. You definitely got a lemon.

LFG, as always great videos. A really nice feature for your truck would be a Decked drawer system. For as much outdoors stuff you do, I think it would be the ultimate dangle for your truck and that new cooler.

You know what bro, I feel bad for you I have the regular gas 2018 Silverado crew cab and I have not had a issue with it. I even put a whole new Flowmaster Outlaw and intake on it with out issue. Chevy needs to fix this problem

im a gm dealer tech and we have not had one single happy customer with a 3.0 dmax silverado. New powerplants always have growing pains. I personally bought a new ram over a chevy but you get alot more for your money with ram but i have had some minor issues with it but in generall they dont make trucks like they used to.

How do you like the leer cap on the truck? I heard a few people say the wind noise is more with the new Silverado’s. I have been fortunate with my 3.0 duramax that I haven’t had any issues. I got 20k miles on mine now

The cost difference in fuel alone would make up the difference in the Gas vs Diesel engine. UPS is currently running 6.0L gas burners for that reason based on ROI studies. I love my 7.3L, but it is rough & noisier, and diesel was over a $1.25 gal. cheaper than regular gas when I bought it. I understand the low end torque hauling 3-6 horses. I wish you much better luck on this 3.0L Diesel...

Hey Justin. Nice looking pickup truck. Have you considered or looked at the Silverado HD with the 6.6 L Gas ? They are a good looking truck with power. I used to pull a 19.7 Stratos 295 Pro with an Evinrude XP 200 outboard loaded with a 2001 Silverado 2wd 1500 Work truck. Reg. Cab , 8 ft. Bed with the 4.3L V-6 Auto transmission with Overdrive. That little Chevy pulled that Bass Boat wherever I wanted to go with No problem. I currently drive an 04 Silverado Ext cab 4x4 With the 5.3L V-8 Auto transmission with overdrive and had pulled a 16 ft. Bass Boat with a 90 H.P. Evinrude with No problem with Almost 228,000 miles. I use this pickup to pull an 8ft. Utility trailer to haul my Troybilt riding lawn tractor and It's my Daily driver. Very dependable truck. Good luck buddy with You're New Silverado !

Justin brother, ya messed up. Chevrolet quality has been going down the drain for years now. In terms of diesel, Cummins is the best engine, but the trucks they're strapped to fall apart. Power stroke is a good middleground. Good trucks, good engines. Just my opinion tho

Dongfeng Cummins motor company= Chinese motor Duramax/Isuzu= Chinese motor Basically it doesn't matter what you pick anymore your getting Chinese motor

The 5.3’s are reliable and fine for grocery getters and soccer moms. But the 6.2 is where it’s at.

Josh 1.0 But the 5.3 has been in production for a while with Chevy and there trucks. Also it can tow just under 10k pounds.

So I'm a lifer when it comes to trucks, but I've never had a camper on the back. Honest question, if you'll always run a camper, why not get like a suburban or something? Isn't that basically the same thing, but with A/C?

Been a die hard chevy man for 35yrs, but had to switch to ram. My 08 Silverado rusted out so fast it was pathetic. Got the ecodiesel, offroad package 2in lift, w/392 rear 10000lbs towing , crew cab, getting 26.7mpg's. Most comfortable truck I have ever driven. Unless this thing has issues like your chevy, I don't think I will ever go back to GM. Nice truck though.
