I picked up my 3.0l Duramax on Tuesday. I took it on a 600 mile trip the last few days and averaged 26.7 MPG. That was mixed driving with some idling and gusty winds. It’s a very impressive drivetrain combination. I went from a 2016 LML Duramax to this for better fuel economy and it definitely delivers.

I've had my 2020 LT with the 3.0L duramax since October 19th. Just under 5000 miles and I'm still very happy with it. The engine and 10 speed transmission are velvety smooth and offer plenty of power for me and all of my needs. I recognized that it isn't a big diesel, nor a dragster prior purchasing. I had concerns with the only 277 hp until driving it. I quickly found that it has more than enough acceleration throughout all speeds that I travel. My average fuel mileage between tanks is 28.7 and 29.2 (per gas buddy logs) and I found that 50-55mph will get you into the mid 30's (my personal best is 37.6mpg from a 25 mile leg and I suspect that if one could stick to 45mph (which is just holding 10th gear) you'd crush well over 40mpg, but aint nobody got time for that. I'm primarily 70mph down to frequent stop and go traffic on my daily commute through Indy. 2020 Chevrolet Silverado LT, crew cab, 24 gal tank, long box with factory tow mirrors, cloth with heated seats and steering wheel. Add ons include a Bakflip MX4 hard tonneau cover for the 6.5' bed and Maxliner floor mats.

Everyone has an opinion. Far too many are negative based upon "I heard". My 2020 GMC Sierra Denali 3.0 Duramax is a sweet truck. 20 MPG city, 28.5 MPG highway. I just turned 200 miles. No overheating, not too loud, smooth acceleration, silky 10 speed tranny and she rides better than my 2018 Sierra Denali 1500 with the 6.2L V8. Even the wife likes this truck better. She is no speed demon, but she does just fine getting me down the road. If you can find one (they don't last long on the dealer's lot, I bought mine when it was in transit), go test drive a GMC Sierra or Silverado with the 3.0. You will be impressed.

Good review! I had the opportunity to rent a 2020 Silverado LT 4x4 with a trailer package and a 5.3 gas engine. I had no idea this is what I would get as it was a rental for the weekend. I was impressed with the amenities and Apple CarPlay, as well as the 4x4 options as I used the Auto mode on wet roads. Quite frankly, I didn't mind the Auto Stop/Start as, in town, I often sat stopped at lights for a minute, at times. Got me thinking if I need a truck for more than a weekend, this would be it!

owned a 1500 RST Duramax now since december 2019. so far, had it recalled 2x. however my best mpg was 41 mpg, and average 25 combined. I will say the first recall was due to loose alternator cables because i guess there was too much glue around the area or something. and the 2nd recall was a hard software update the dealership needed to perform. something about the internal and external temp sensors not matching. It is an amazing truck and performs well. still a happy purchase. 2200 miles currently.

the stop for me with this diesel is that the oil pump is belt driven and it’s in the rear of the engine, so when it requires replacement at 150k miles, the transmission and transfer case if you have four wheel drive, have to be dropped. it’s probably not cheap and I question why design an oil pump as such.

@ChevyDude there is one other way you can tell if the truck may have a Duramax Diesel, by looking at the front center of the truck down low in the air dam area, below where the front license plate bracket usually goes. The normal trucks the air dam is a solid piece whereas the diesel there are square holes down there. The only problem with looking for that is that the 4 cylinder 2.7L gas engine has those same holes in the air dam as well. I hope you can make sense of my explanation.

Glad to see they have a 4x4 indicator on the gauge cluster/dash. I have a 2016 Colorado Z71 and the only way you can see if you are in 4 wheel drive is to look at the switch knob. That would not be so bad, but the switch knob is not in a very visible location and gets blocked by the steering wheel. Good to see a truck review video from you again! Chevy Trucks have always had their brother GMC Trucks that bring sales numbers on both trucks down which are essentially the same truck so people like me who choose one or the other since many of us GM fans like one or the other depending on the year's model! This always throws Chevy under the ford 150 in sales when lots of years the combined sales are right there neck and neck with the 150! Hand it to Ram lately for doing whatever they have done to increase sales and thus Chevy gets stuck in 3rd since GMC affects Silverado sales numbers! If the Ram or 150 had a brother like the Silverado and GMC are then we would be talking a big difference in who has the most sales! I wish GM would advertise sometimes how their combined half-ton sales numbers are at or near the top each year!

I have an '07 Silverado. "Auto" is just a drive mode which can only be used when the traction control is ON. Auto gives power to whatever wheels need it the most, while you're driving, which is why you have a traction control button on the Silverado. When you're in 4WD, you turn traction control off, so, you can't use it "only" in 4WD, because it's a drive mode just like 2WD, 4H, or 4L.

NYS 👎 doesn’t allow HD trucks on parkways unless they are set up like campers in back. My big complaint with GM is they don’t E-coat their frame like Ford or Ram, and the wax undercoating used on the Silverado doesn’t hold up in the north. I need to reapply undercoating each year and deal with premature frame rust. If GM is reading this please fix the issue as I’d like to stick with GM next truck-but may be forced to switch brands. I've been a Chevy guy my entire life. I own a 18 Silverado now. My first new truck was a 1975 Cheyenne.I was looking at the new 3.0 Diesel UNTIL I saw the oil pump wet belt. Have to pull the transmission to change it. WTH was GM thinking? Cylinder deactivation,auto stop/start,wet belts. I'm starting to rethink Chevy.

I bought a brand new 2015 Chevy truck and the only problems I have with it are number 1 the seats just aren't comfortable. They are too hard. 2, I can't see as much as I would like to see out of the side view mirrors. 3, there is less room in the bed and in the cab of the truck than the competitors but I see that that's been fixed now. And 4, there is something mounted On the floor behind the brake pedals that prevents me from stretching my feet and flexing my ankles when I'm on a long trip and it drives me nuts. I take a lot of long trips with my truck so seat and leg Comfort is very important. I plan on test-driving one of these new Chevys with a diesel in it but if the seat is not comfortable and I can't move my legs the way I like to, I can't buy it because I just can't take a 5-6 hour drive somewhere and end up in pain.

Dad's Driveway this GM engine isn’t Italian, not made by fiat, I saw on Scotty Kilmer’s channel he said that it was made by GM, and I’d assume GM knows what they’re doing. I mean it’s still a Duramax, not some “eco, diesel”. I used to have a 2016 ram eco diesel, not very long tbh, but as long as you maintain it, preventative maintenance, I think it should last.

No you weren't. You just want to post something negative. That belt has a 150,000 mile recommended replacement lifetime. For most people, that's 12 years from now. They won't be owning the truck in 12 years. It's a non-issue.

Would you reccomend a more frequent fluid change on these newer trucks with the 8speed. As in diff fluid and tranny, maybe to an amsoil fluid.
@sammolloy1
@sammolloy1 4 года назад
Some cars are “AWD” that are built to run in “auto” all the time. If this is not then it should be labelled as something else. As far as I know no pickups are AWD since the 1970’s... the fake gas shortages killed them.
@domposs5756
@domposs5756 4 года назад
The only thing you have to worry about it the actuator on the front axle. When ur in auto 4wd the transfer case is in 4x4 but it’s not sending power to the front end. The actuator engages the front axle after the rear tires slip. I have a 09 Silverado half ton and once winter hit it’s always in auto 4wd.
@sammolloy1
@sammolloy1 4 года назад
Dom Poss Similar to FWD cars with AWD added. Power is always sent to the rear diff. A wet clutch pack on the front of the diff engages as needed when the ABS tells the computer the front wheels are going faster than the rear. It is a pulsing DC that fades. The strength of the hookup depends on the pulse. It works quite well, although not immediately from a dead stop if you floor it. Subaru uses this type and the silicone “goop drive” like a Jensen Interceptor depending on the model and whether it is automatic or manual transmission.

It was about time for them to offer a reasonable sized Diesel motor for these trucks, what a shame and waste of fuel to use from low powered small non turbo gas engines to gas V8s or huge diesel motors more suitable for Semi trucks. The same Chevy trucks are rolling for decades in Europe and all over the world as Isuzu with 2.5 and 3.0 Turbodiesels. Good to see a Suburban and an Escalade with the same engine too. I have a BMW X5 3.0 turbodiesel Inline 6, although the old model is underpowered you can't go wrong to a configuration like that.

Constructive criticism. Chevy is in 3rd place not because of marketing, but because GM phoned in the interior and is taking away choice from the customer like 2wd low except in certain models. If the 2022 Silverado doesn't fix these 2 problems then Chevy will continue to be stuck in 3rd. However, Kudos to GM for keeping the BOF SUV's on top and for having the best powertrains.
