I got free tuition to take Security + at my school and jumped at the chance. Unfortunately for my degree it requires A+ and Net+ classes so i have to take those classes but will most likely skip the cert. Ill just use what i learn to take CCNA/CCNP afterwards. Love the passion and your consistency. Thank u sir!

One thing i can say for sure, cloud+ is a total waste of time plus its to much money. AWS or azure charge 99dollars for there basic cloud cert, which is WAY more helpful especially in finding a job then cloud+ is.

I feel the same way overall. I find the certs decent, especially the security centered ones...but the price is such a turn off. The A+ is seen as an entry level cert but individually costs more than any Associate Cloud cert and more than the CCNA combined. The A+, Net+, Sec+ combined = (253 + 253) + 369 + 404 = $1,279 The Sec+, AWS SAA, CCNA = 404 + 150 + 300 = $850 You can lower it even more by taking an alternate security cert like the Cisco Devnet or the SSCP and still get access to similar jobs that the CompTIA Trifecta will give you.

Indeed! They are good in marketing though.Network+ is still popular but nothing compared to vendor network certs. But didn’t happen in Cloud+

i totally agree, i got my A+ cert (valid for 3 years only, cmon like you'll need it again) 3 years ago when i was looking to step into IT industry, i studied hard for that, that knowledge is good but you can land a help desk job with just customer service skills and a lil bit of troubleshooting skills or just study for the cert and not waste $300 to get certified... My goal was to then study for Net+ but then i did my due diligence and got CCNA certified instead, Net+ is mostly theory, theory won't help you SSh into a router and configure it, its good for you if you want just basic knowledge of networking... Sec+ is the only Comptia cert that seems to be of some worth, maybe Linux + too but i would rather look at RHEL for that...Not to mention Comptia certs just look like noob certs... nobody take them that seriously and they will empty your pockets.
@StyxShow

Good that you decided getting CCNA over Network+. Linux+ is good if you want less effort getting a linux cert and planning to go for linux security. Thanks for sharing your insights man!

“Noob certs” ? I agree it’s a cash grabs buts not an easy certs to obtains specially the sec+. I’m getting ready to take the cysa+. Let me know how your sec+ goes. But then again I’m looking to work in DoD so I need them 😂

Not anymore on landing a help desk job with just customer service skill and troubleshooting, you need certs on top of that to just get a call not even a interview. i have over 5 yrs of customer service and around the same in troubleshooting and diagnostics from my auto tech background and have a assosiates in cyber

Thanks for another one Dean. If I'm interested in Linux. Do you think replacing LPIC-1 with Security+ is the way to go ? Considering that Im aiming for LPIC-3 which is Security based.

@@StyxShow Thanks alot for advice. Currently I study for ISC-2 Cybersecurity Certified and glance with one eye into Security+ Neither don't seem to cover Linux specific Security Best Practices (Host Firewall, SELinux,...) That's why I ask about LPIC-3 Security.

Linux+ then PenTest+ would be a good choice

Dean, I highly appreciate your opinion. Since we talk about Pen-test... I'm a SoftDev that is trying to migrate to Cyber Security. Seems like WebApp pen-tester is something that is crossing with my skillset. But I'm not sure whether it will be possible to find a job in that field. As someone mentioned "it takes whole Blue team to stop 1 hacker". (More Blue Team opportunities) Do you think it's possible Blue Cyber Security is better option in terms of landing first CyberSec job ?

I usually recommend A+ to someone who has zero experience in tech. You don't need to get the cert but at least read the book to get fundamentals. Of course you can skill helpdesk if you don't want to work an entry level role like helpdesk but you need the right certs, right skills, good homelab experience and a nice resume to get into something else.
@StyxShow
@StyxShow 2 месяца назад
Thanks for the input man! Two options for starters: a. Study A+ (take the cert or not) b. Skip A+ to save time. And prepare for better certs. Note: Many successful IT people didnt have A+ nor studied A+, they are very happy and proud they didn’t.

I wonder if I can get a help desk role with badges alone? I'm finishing up a Cisco network basic free course with a badge and I find it very challenging but rewarding. I have about 5 badges from IBM and I feel gained knowledge completing them. I have more I'm planning on completing because I enjoy it. I'm thinking instead of doing the a+, which I'm studying for, I'd much rather do the Linux+. I appreciate the advice 🦾

I mentioned in the video and many people agreed to skip A+ and helpdesk role. CCNA and Linux+ as your 1st 2 certs is the way to go.
