@@petrusdimitrilarantukan7678 that's only the case if the writer's intention was to have their characters hated. I doubt it was the writer's intention to have the villain seem more likeable than the love interest. There's plenty of villains I love to hate but that's not the issue here. Not only does it show someone being a poor writer but shows a possible disconnect from realistic human interaction. I mean what person would throw away the life they built for a Space Nazi.

@@petrusdimitrilarantukan7678 That's like saying blowing the house while trying to clean the toilet is a good thing. It's only a good thing if the writer made a character to be hated and 100/100 indeed hate said character. When the writer wanted to make a character the beloved love interest and ended the story with her smile as if it's a precious frame, the character having near zero approval rating is catastrophic failure.

From what I've heard, the writers suddenly shifted heads for the last two episodes of 0083, which explains why Nina suddenly backstabs Kou for Gato. Except for the fact that she shows no reaction to Gato's appearance or name during the early parts of 0083, so blame the writers.
@Alte.Kameraden
@Alte.Kameraden 2 года назад
Well technically she does. It's hinted at a few times throughout the OVA series. I don't remember whether it's episode 1 or 2 but she does ask the question "Did they say Gato?" Later on in episode 6 or 7 I don't remember either one of the Von Braun episodes her friend tells her she needs to stop drowning herself in her work because she is still trying to get over a earlier break up. So she clearly seems to know who Gato is, and also broke up with someone prior to the events of 0083. Being Zeon forces and Von Braun have very close ties, it isn't really out of the question based on what was present throughout the series. I honestly enjoyed the twist at the end. Not every plot thread needs explaining, and I think they laid out just enough to make it a plausible conclusion. It's better than having a villain monologuing or showing flash backs. I think she mentioned him another time in the series but that could just be bad memory. Though I think the OVA needed maybe two more episodes. Definitely another Cima focused one. Her behaviors were far more off the rails in my opinion than Nina's behavior in the final episodes. Though to be frank those last few episodes were among some of my favorites. I personally think the shift in lead writers was over all a good decision. It's easy to criticize something without knowing what the other route would of gave us. I'm pretty sure 0083 was originally slated for 12 rounded episodes but they just couldn't wrap it up quick enough so it's very likely why they chose to switch writers during those later episodes. You gotta remember they do have a budget to work with.

I didn't mind the element of Gato being her former lover, there's a tiny hint of it when they fight after the attack on the Naval Review. It could have been used to create some great tension and drama but it wasn't. Personally had Nina gone to the colony to confront Gato with some anger and resentment about how he left her, and the possibility that maybe she's going to actually shoot him, I'd have found it more interesting. But it's Nina. She doesn't understand anything beyond designing mobile suits. She should have gone home when she disembarked from the Albion. The story would have lost nothing but an annoying contrivance. Clearly the best pairing in this entire OVA is Keith and Mora. You see almost nothing of their relationship and it's still a thousand times better than Nina/Kou/Gato.

To be fair, Nina and Gato being old lovers was only invented at the last minute after they replaced directors halfway through the series. In episode 1, despite seeing Gato face to face, she had no idea who he was. The whole love triangle subplot was literally conceived at the last minute just to create more drama. In fact, Gato strikes me as a man who wouldn't enter into a romance in most situations because he considers his ideals and principles to be of more importance than his personal happiness. Which ironically makes him more of a Byronic hero than Uraki.

My tinfoil hat theory is this was always meant to have a 'bad ending' since this colony drop incident is what leads to the foundation of the Titans (which in retrospect makes Zeta gundam make a whole lot more sense) They wanted to have a final out of cockpit confrontation with Gato and Kou like they do with all the rivalries, and they couldn't have the 'hero' Kou lose in a straight up fight even though he 'loses' because the colony drop still happens, so they make a emotional/compromised Nina be the reason he 'loses' and thus gives way for the colony drop that leads into Zeta (Although it is also the Federation's fault as they let the colony drop when they didn't have to).

The Gryps War alone was in many ways a war between Anaheim and Anaheim. Nina's betrayal and helping Zeon to drop the colony are perfectly in line with her company's goals. Ignore the cheap drama and you'll realise Stardust Memory is a story about Federation, Zeon and Anaheim cooperating with each other to fulfil their goals and lay seeds for the next conflicts.

its not just a "last minute stupidity", its a "last minute desconstruction of what made the series great up to that point". even if you disregard the whole romance aspect, in universe, her decision only made things worse for everyone, as kou had a legitimate shot at doing something against the colony drop.

1) How did Nina managed to have a relationship with Gato in the first place? It's like an american woman having a relationship with a SS officer in ww2! 2) Why is she allowed to work on highly classified military projects? Federation intelligence would surely know about her former relationship with a Zeon war criminal, and would put her on a watch list, preventing her from working on anything more sensitive than a toaster at Anaheim.
@FlashingBladesProductions
@FlashingBladesProductions 3 месяца назад
The difference in that is scope. Anaheim is stationed on the moon, and they are not officially affiliated with the Earth Federation. Additionally, they provided weapons to BOTH factions (Or, at least they did for Londo Bell and Neo Zeon in the era of CCA). Spacenoid kinship, I guess. My problem was how Gato's actions affect the present, as he continues to drop the colony, which is going to kill a lot of people, while she's standing right there. As for Feddy intelligence knowing about it beforehand.... I'm uncertain. In the era of the Titans, I'd say it was more probable. I've also been told this awkward love triangle was added to the script mid-production, so it could possibly be seen as something of a plot hole. Not in regards to her being a Gundam engineer at Anaheim, but in terms of letting her anywhere NEAR the completed units on a Federation base, especially when one of them is designed for carrying a nuke.

Wow, I don't agree with a single read on Nina's actions in this video. Nina's 'betrayal' had nothing to do with singular fixation on Gato, but her desire that neither be killed and that the cycle of violence end--she even said that part out loud. Tomino had a tendency to tell parallel stories in 0079 and Zeta, and it was clear to me that the writers of 0083 were making a nod to that by illustrating the macro narrative--the way the greater forces of the Federation, Zeon, and Anaheim Electronics perpetuated the cycles of warfare--on a micro level. Gato and Kou cannot bring themselves to stop striving for forces that only want to use them for their utility to kill. Even after the Solar System Laser fires the second time, in the aftermath, both are STILL fixated on the one thing they've cared about more than anything, even living: Kou, beating Gato. Gato, serving the 'ideals of Zeon'. Even though Nina is caught up in this cycle as well, as a designer for Anaheim--who profit off all sides, who work to keep this cycle going just like the rest--she's the only one who quits (or seems to quit, put a pin in that). She was ordered not to get on the Albion, but she did it anyway, which seemed to signal that she recognized that the only way to win this game was for people to quit it. I think she hoped she could convince Kou to quit his fixation on Gato. When she went to the Solar System Laser, I think she went with the intent of convincing Gato to quit, since she hadn't gotten through to Kou. Were her desires selfish--yeah! Did she articulate her feelings well? No! But that's Gundam, baby. It's about human beings and whether or not we can come to understand each other, and talking about whether or not people have the power to stop the cycle of warfare. This is always been the point of Gundam. Back to my 'pin': the main flaw I found in the ending was that it seems(?) like Nina has gone back to work for Anaheim. That she didn't 'quit the game' like her previous actions seemed to suggest. It's left very unclear, but I think the show's final images are deeply fatalistic, despite the sweeping and nostalgic music that plays in the end. The pilots get absorbed into the Titans--and we all know what a horrorshow they become--and they seem quite fine with this transition. Nina has gone back to work for Anaheim and Kou is still in the Federation as a pilot, with their only prize being that they didn't die. Maybe that's always been the point of Gundam, too.

I don't get Nina, she shoots Gato and mortally wounds him, yet immediately protects him from Kou when he tries to do the same. As Cima would say: Who's side are you on anyway. The ending is so confusing too, one smile, that's suppose to make it all water under the bridge, or she's just hoping to get back together with Kou again now that Gato is gone Anaheim has nothing but crazy people inside. Then again, UC is just fully of crazies

Isn't Nina even worse in the 0083 Rebellion manga? I'd make a whole separate video about that. In the manga she freaked out putting a gun to herself over Gato, then proceeded to voluntarily fix the Mobile Armor sent from Axis, because why? Then when she tried to stop Kou and Gato from fighting, she herself put in the course change in the colony computers to change it from dropping on the moon, and instead sending it to Earth. So yeah... She's even worse in the manga. Even with all of the extra character detail.

Honestly thought Mora was far more an interesting female character and or Cima because reasons. But Moras and Keiths relationship far more interesting even if it had less coverage. Nina was not my bag and definitely apart of many discussions on stardust but Nina has been utterly hated in every group and I never sought out to find said groups. Its just gundam things, personally the relationships between other people from other gundam series are very interesting and in all honesty was not romantic but their was perfect building blocks and a clear foundation to build on. Nina is more like a bag of chips where you know its bad where as someone like Lucrezia Noin is closer to a healthy meal.Also just irrational behavior was very much present the whole series, Kou got what he deserved tbh.

Nina Purpleton is hot because she predates NTR. NTR had been around in manga in concept but not in name, and mostly used negatively even in hentai.
