Why I hate The Z3 Coupé...

Today I drive this very rare, manual, 2001 Z3 Coupé. I wouldn't own one, but they sure are pretty to look at... These are the main issues I have with the car.

I think you are missing the point with that Z3 coupé. There are obviously better driving cars. With 20K, any car enthousiasts could find better options, including a 996, to go for a ride. But there is a reason why this Z3 coupé cost more today than its successor, the Z4 coupé. It's called design. Shooting-brake. This car will cost more in 20 years, than most other BMW. So yes, it might not be the one for you, but it's an investment, as were the Z1 or Z8.

This kid reviewing the Z3 coupe hasn't been driving long enough to appreciate it. He probably got his license two years ago. I have been driving a 2001 Z3 3.0 for many, many years and have not found anything as enjoyable as it; especially on long trips.

Eh, I've been driving bmws for 10 years and have owned over 20 of them. I like the z3 I just don't think it's worth the premium

Thought I was gonna hate the video because the title is a bit click-baity; I was wrong! The content to me is totally honest and straightforward; no random chitchat, no bullshit. Thanks for sharing an honest review about this Z3 coupe! I feel this car might be over-hyped among that really small niche group of people. (Although I might be slowly becoming one of them). It's good to hear some impartial opinions.

Good review from not the fanboy. Being Z Coupe 3.0 owner you mentioned all the reasons why I bought Z Coupe 3.0 - rarer and more reliable then M Coupe, very good driving experience, good performance and style. And for me the extra bonus is the story behind the Z Coupe development. One thing I can’t relate is the seating position, I’m 178cm (5’8”) and don’t have a problem you described. My car have small modifications like BC Racing RM coilovers and E46 330 breaks, other then that stock. I’m not surprised if prices go up even more. I will never sell mine.

they didn't give it the 330 brakes? That's unfortunate but at least their bolt on, and that means e46 m3 breaks and even 135is brembos should as well (with related bracketry)

My 01 Z3 coupe is flawed but a hoot, looks&sounds like a 50s60s GT (ACAce, Aston, MG...) but mo’better hatch carries stuff, slides when I want it to ....and besides I’m not sure I’d so frequently turn around to look back down along the fenders of an e30 after I parked it.... daily=everyday (plus mine was pretty cheap so those silly rising prices suggest I’ll likely not lose much if I change taste later)

It's a small car for small people. I have a 3.0 Roadster. I'm 6,2 tall. I can only drive it comfortable with the roof down, and even then the center mirror is opstructing my view in right hand corners. My best friend is 5.6, and for him its a perfect match. Still it is much roomier as a Miata, much more comfortable than a Bike, and somehow it makes more fun to drive than both of them.

I totally agree! Just checked out a 2001 and while it was beautiful IMO, the driving dynamics are pretty strange. Mushy in the way a Miata is but with the added weight, the mush isn’t a good thing. The front end seems to have a hard time finding the line you give it, as if it’s sniffing it’s way around corners. If I definitely knew how to upgrade the suspension, I might jump in the ring but I’ve been down that road before with the Miata and it’s not easy to strike the right balance between precision handling and compliance.

I enjoyed that video. I purchased My b m w this march. It is an automatic. It is a fun car. Now something is wrong with the windshield wipers. It is not they fuse. It will be the first to the shop. My other vehicle is a two thousand nissan frontier. I love love love my truck. And now I have a fun Car. I suppose I will just have to learn how to fix some things on it. The video was fun you did a great job.

As a 2002 3.0i Coupe owner, it comes down to upgrading the suspension and bushings. Race suspension wakes that chassis right up, and an x-pipe in place of the resonator is a moral imperative.

I have the base mode z3 from 1996 but have already swapped the oem brakes for m3 brakes and bought an s50b30 for 750$ which bolts right in to the stock manual trans, all I’d need is a clutch and I’m set

I would take a 2.8 or 3.0 coupe over an M Coupe any day all day. Id absolutely LOVE to find a 2001 coupe in excellent condition. It is a swift touring car. I would add an exhaust and be a happy camper. I have a roadster. This would make a nice pair.

It does make a good pair. I have a 3.0i Coupe and a 2.8 Roadster. I don't feel the roadster needs more than the 2.8. Even with a strut brace the chassis doesn't ask for more power than that. The Coupe really begs for the 3.0. It is delicious.

What a big bunch of bullshit crap talk. Worst revue I ever seen... I drive a Z3 coupe and a Z4 Roadster. Z3 Coupe is a mean lean driving machine who wants to kill you if you don´t drive it properly.

Your Z4 got the numb electric power steering? An E30 scary rear suspension needs the DSC (w/ defeat button) on unfamiliar slippery roads. Hence, I picked the 2002 Z3 3.0 with (unlike the M) "OEM quick-ratio hydraulic power steering and Torsen diff" for hardcore counter-steering actions. Also, I had to choose the “loose-body Roadster w/ OEM hardtop” instead to ensure unobstructed wide (passing) rear visibility. Due to the factory roll hoops & later seats' limited reclining angle, I still had to get rid of the passenger seat & replaced with a “Cerullo SC driver seat with removable head rest” in order to restore the earlier 1.9's wide rear visibility.
