Why I HATE Wet Shaving!

I really hate wet shaving. And I know I will have people coming at me for saying this, but I really do. Grooming is about finding what works for you... and this isn't one of those things for me! Here's what I do to shave instead.

I am a year into wet shaving and im loving it. I can't imagine going back. Takes a while to get use to it because the learning curve can be pretty steep. If you put the time into it you will be rewarded but the first 3-6 months you will definitely get cuts, red marks, and tenderness. I still use my electric for days i'm running low on time and need a quick cut but there is no substitute for that BBS shave than west shaving. Ultimately I agree you should do what works best for and your skin.

Wet shaving with braun series 9 with a thin layer of nivea shaving cream gets a supremely close shave and very comfy. The neck is still a bit tricky but use the trimmer to get stubborn ones and then use the foil. It leaves no irritation and ingrown hairs.

Great video as always. Don't know if it's just me but I absolutely love the sound an electric makes when you hear it cutting the hairs.. it's such an addictive thing. I'm weird I know lol.

I had the same problem with wet shave, And I'm now using titanium coated blades and that really helps me. It's bit costly but it works

I went to DE wet shaving to relieve razor burn. Cartridge razors clog easy and are very expensive, they also tugged and left me with razor burn. Electric razors always tugged which I hated, though they were fast. I went to DE razor and everything cleared up. It amazes me how different peoples experiences are.

I love wet shaving! Especially with a straight razor, never been able to use foils I get bad razor burn/rash

I enjoy wet shaving but it's so time-consuming. I see barbers using the Andis foil shaver, so I bought that one. It does a great job for a quick cleanup.

All I use is electric shavers and I love it. Not to mention it gives me a very clean looking stubble beard which I love.

I do wet shaving as I have less problems with getting cuts and knicks so I use the guillete razors and Nivea Men shaving gel so it just depends on your skin of what ever brands suit us men depending on our skin

My Wet shave routine for my sensitive skin, twice a week sometimes three.. In the shower with a mirror.. Clinique face scrub, Clinique cream shave, Gillette pro glide , moisturiser: whatever you usually use. Not nicks and cuts, shave rash is very rare..

I use a nice shaving soap (goodfellas smile is a favourite) lathered on with a cruelty free shaving brush. Then I use an electric razor. Best of both worlds and I avoid razor burn and cuts.

Robin, I love your attitude about grooming being about finding what works for YOU! You back that up in your video and share what you like in case it is helpful or inspiring to a viewer. It is a shame that you didn’t get that same courtesy from responders. While I still believe there’s a wet shaving solution for you, I totally understand where your head is. A good daily grooming routine should be one that makes you feel good and helps you to prepare to offer your best self to the world each day. It shouldn’t be painful, frustrating, or make you feel like you are a target for internet bullies. I have had more than one friend “bullied” off of the internet by people who want to create drama. You go ahead and do what works for you! If you ever want to try it again, there are plenty of good shavers who would work with you to search for a solution. NO JUDGEMENTS! And we believe there isn’t just one right way. The right way is what works for YOU. In the meantime (or from now on) great video and thanks for some really useful tips!

Regarding your full head of hair, do you keep tabs on it in terms of recession, loss of density etc considering your age? ( I am 30 and I do, so wondered whether you did)

I was the same was doing it on and off for two years, finally it clicked with wet shaving use Rockwell 6c with number 3 plate, use three passes ! The key is ZERO PRESSURE ABSOLUTELY ZERO PRESSURE. And you will enjoy the shaving like you never done it before. It’s amazingly therapeutic. I promise you will throw that electric shaver out of the window. Don’t forget ZERO PRESSURE 3 passes.

Electric shaver doesn't really work for me. I have full beard coverage and my neck is a pretty sensitive area and the electric shaver or dry shaving gives lots of bumps, nicks, dryness, and redness that's why I go for a wet shave. It takes a bit of time to get used to but it is what worked for me.

Good for you I suppose; personally I enjoy it, and I shave everything except for my moustache. I actually did accidentally shave my moustache once and I looked terrible, and even though it’s extremely thin, I hated not having a moustache and was extremely self conscious of my upper lip and covered it with my hand or a mask or a scarf until it grew back

Ha it's my fav bit of grooming. Turning points for me were (1) doing it in the shower (way more convenient) and (2) using aftershave/aftershave balm (I don't get red marks anymore)

I used to love and hate wet shaving but since I grew a mustache it's much more enjoyable. Also I used to wet shave my head but now I use an electric cutter on zero guard and not so regularly. I like how different people use different techniques but that just works for me 🙂

You are absolutely right. I've been wet shaving for the past 3 years, and it works wonders for me, plus I like the time I spend doing it. But i I know it doesn't work for everyone.

Electric is the worst on my neck, so I go wet... But with cold water. That's how I solved my redness and bumps.

I'm curious, have you try to tie your hair in a lower bun or you just don't like it? ps: I've recently cut the back to match with the length of the top and I look like a girl, but previously I looked like a trucker with a mullet.

i shave in many ways hey did you know the product Lectric shave? its a per-electric shave product works great it gets the shave even closer not trying to put you down just a tip if you like

I hear you, i don't get cuts but my skin is so irritated after. Unfortunately electric is even worse for me so i still wet shave. I'm really hoping my beard fills in so i can just grow a beard and only deal with the shape up

Try washing your face first with hot water that opens the skin up then use the electric shaver

Tbf I don't have a specific blade razor I use don't really matter if its 2 blades or 3 seems to not make a difference to me aslong as I got a bit of shaving foam exfoliate before and after it seems all the same

I think it's called RAZOR BURN, it's a condition like genetically... I wet shave with straight razor, and a blade in bad condition can create the same skin micro cuts and redness. Otherwise the super soft baby skin is a bliss!

Electric Dry Shave here too, way better for me and works with my schedule which is very busy. No ingrowns, no redness no issues at all.

I have a particularly course and hard facial hair. When i was a teenager my mother bought me an electric shaver. At the time it was top of the range Phillips shaver and not cheap. I tried this for a week but it would pull so badly it was painful to use. Now i know that shavers have evolved a bit since then,but just ti go out and try and find one that works fir you just Isn't feasible! Who is going to go out and spend hundreads and hundreads of shavers that 'MIGHT WORK"? I've wet shaved since i was a teenager and you can never get an electric shaver to come ckose to a wet shave for closeness. And to me if you can't get that close with an electric razor why bother to shave? I shave to give me that closeness. I don't want to shave that doesn't get me that closeness so to me it would be a waste of time!

There is no magic formula, its all about genetics. Have patience and dont get hungup on measuring your hair growth just try enjoy the journey.

My hair is the same length as Robin's. From shaven off completely it took a whole year to grow it to that length. Be patient.

For any wet shavers out there. Don't go wasting money on these multi blade all singing all dancing razors. Invest in a Double Edge Razor, chrome plated brass. Muhle or Edwin Jagger for example and decent blades. They do not drag across your face but glide. Promise, you'll never look back!!

Feather blades and a multi plate DE razor 🤙 done. These days I use feathers with a Rockwell on a 6 plate. Nice and aggressive

Like you said, the electric isn’t irritating your skin because it isn’t cutting the hair follicles as close to the pours. Glad it works for you. The only thing that I’ll say on the topic to clarify a bit is that proper skin care and wet shaving using one blade, one pass across the skin provides the least irritation when one desires a close, BBS shave. Much more so than any other option. However, I agree that most people wish to enforce their beliefs onto others and also most wet shavers use inferior products like proraso due to marketing and prestige.

If you hate wet shaving, it's because you probably had a bad first experience with them. There are several methods to getting in to wet shaving. FIrst of all, double edge razors are far superior than your typical cartridge razors. You need to get a good DE razor that is mild for the beginners; there are also adjustable razors which are very convenient. Then there are different soaps and creams, try to find one with the best slickness and your preferable scent. Lastly, the razor blades. If you have a very sensitive skin, start with the not so sharp blades, such as Derby or Rockwell. Wet shaving is a really fun experience, and you will want to do it every day, if you are able to master it.

With dry shaving you don’t get the BABY SMOOTH skin. I’ve been wet shaving with a standard BIC shaver and rarely nic myself. I can even do it with my eyes closed
