I'm BACK!! It's been exactly a year since my last RU-vid upload, and I explain why in the video. It's been so busy I haven't even been able to upgrade to Davinci Resolve 18 yet!! That changes in this video though where I walk you through my workflow for upgrading Davinci Resolve from 17 to 18, without the worry or stress of possibly losing presets, projects or Fusion templates.
I've been busy creating my online Davinci Resolve courses whilst I've been away, and I'm happy to say that the Beginners Guide to Davinci Resolve is now fully available. There are over 15 hours of training in bite-size video lessons that you can follow using the downloadable media provided. It's also a certified course meaning you can take the end-user exam at the end and receive certification from Blackmagic Design.

👋🏻 ABOUT ALEX and DEPIQD 👋🏻
Alex is a certified DaVinci Resolve trainer and video producer with a mission to simplify and reduce the learning curve to producing fantastic video content. Alex has been in filmmaking for over 14 years now and, in 2016, set up his company, Depiqd (said Dee-PikT), which initially focused on traditional video production.
Now, whilst Depiqd still offers video production services to our clients today, the focus is on reaching and helping as many people as possible to get started using video and make the process of learning enjoyable, stress-free and efficient without it costing a fortune.
Whether you have personal or business-driven goals, video is so powerful and can reach people in many ways that other forms of media can. However, it can be laborious, complicated, and expensive and it takes a long time to become proficient, so often, people give up far too soon.
If that sound's familiar, hopefully, the videos on this channel will help you. Please consider subscribing and turning on notifications so you don't miss new videos as they get released.

👏🏻Hi Alex, Great, welcome back. I fully understand. We have had a lot of illness ourselves and also 2 deaths within family and friends. Good to have you back and good luck.👍🏻

Welcome back Alex. I am also moving to resolve 18 after a 1,5 year break. Many things to fix, like moving to 18. A small question: what tool do you use at 05:43 to draw free and with arrows on screen ?

Hello Alexa very helpful information that you have shared. I am facing a weird problem and would request you for help as to how to overcome this issue. I have shot a video clip at 100fps however when I bring it into Davinci Resolve with Project settings of 30fps, when I import this 100fps clip in media pool and right click to check out the "clip attributes" it shows 25fps and not 100fps as you have demonstrated in your video. What could be reason for that or is this option only available/workable in Davinci Resolve Studio and not the free version.

Sorry to hear you're having some difficulty. That does sound like an odd problem. The Free version doesn't support timeline frame rates of over 60fps but then you're only at 30fps. It's odd that the 100fps clip is being interpreted at 25fps rather than say your timeline frame rate. Hard to know exactly why from just your description and might need further investigation.

Hi, I don't have any 'mission critical' stuff so just allowed the installer to do the upgrade. But I'm a bit confused with what you did after installing DaVinci 18. I may have missed something but it looked like you moved or deleted some of your 'backup' files. And I think you upgraded the version of some of the database files. Surely a true backup would have been something you'd have kept unchanged in case version 18 didn't work for you and you needed to put back version 17 as it had been. Anyway, it is good to see you back and I look forward to watching your new content.

Good question Graham. So, you’re right that I bring the databases back in and then Resolve asks me to upgrade them. At that point though, I’m not using the backup anymore. I’m using the version of the database that has now been restored or copied so when I upgrade it within Resolve, the back up isn’t affected by that. When I then restored the presets, LUTs and fusion templates I didn’t need to hold onto the backup file either. I could of done however. I could have also made a duplicate of my database file and stored it somewhere else so that was preserved just in case but there wasn’t a need in this case. Does that help explain things? Thanks for watching and your kind words.

I upgraded to 18 the minute it came out and I’ve had absolutely no problems whatsoever! Unlike Adobe… Upgrading in resolve is not a scary proposition.

I totally agree. Compared to Premiere Pro, doing a Resolve upgrade is actually exciting and something you look forward to. 😉 I’ve done exactly that in the past and been fine too but this time around I was deep in a project that was working really well and had tight deadlines so just couldn’t afford to take a chance at all of any issues. Out of interest do you do a clean install each time? Or do you at least run the uninstaller first? Or do you just install over the top?

@@AlexCameron-Depiqd I called da Vinci and I asked them if I needed to do a clean install and they said absolutely not. So I just install over the top and I’ve never had a problem yet.
