I recently left London for Bali as a photographer and after achieving everything I always wanted in the big city, so many of you asked me: why? I am so happy for you. I've been following you for awhile now even though I'm never going to be a fashion photographer because I quit sure I'm too old. I have been pursuing landscape, travel, and documentary photography for the last 6 years while simultaneously working full time as a residential architect. I'm now finally ready to pursue photography full time and am coincidentally planning to move to S.E. Asia for both inspiration and my health in a few months. I wish you all the best.

I have lived in Botswana, Africa my whole life and in the last 10 years I have come to the conclusion that to pursue my dreams of becoming a full time artist I will need to move. I have been blessed with the opportunity to move to Portugal next year and I am both excited and scared, but you have just showed me that to follow your dreams and to grow, you sometimes have to move continents. Very relatable. I live in Vancouver, Canada, (immigrated from Germany) and have achieved my dream career here as a filmmaker... but many factors make me want to move: the housing situation, costs of living, the constant rain, flaky people... I had always deemed my career the most important thing in my 20s. Now, in my mid-30s, I see things a little differently. The nature keeps me here and the closeness to the USA, but you're not always getting to enjoy these, especially now that the Lower Mainland starts overcrowding and places are filled up on the weekends or during the holidays.

@@a.g.4843lol, Vancouver ist eines der teuersten Städte der Welt. Ganz Kanada ist mittlerweile betroffen. Wenn ich die Mieten in Deutschland sehe, muss ich lachen. $2000-2500++ für ein Studio, ohne Schlafzimmer. Lass dich bitte von den "Auswanderer"-Dokus im deutschen Fernsehen nicht blenden.

@@LauraBC Thank you. I had been thinking back and forth if I should return to Montreal. I used to live there before. It is not only more affordable, but my artist soul was able to breathe in this city. It is a different atmosphere and pace, for a European anyways. This year, I applied for another part-time job in Vancouver, which will hopefully work out soon. Yes, it would keep me in Vancouver initially, but if I wanted, I could move to another city with it, as well, and relocate maybe even internationally. The film industry can be very draining. I love my job and have not achieved everything, yet, that I want to achieve, but I have been looking for something else on the side that more complies with my personal values because the entertainment industry has none. It has been killing my spirit over time, so I needed some place new has these values. It is interesting how our priorities change the older we get. In the end, we all strive for peace and balance.

I’m in Vancouver too and I can’t be more agreed with you. Here is hard to save money, expensive food, expensive public transport, the weather (at least is less snow than others provinces) and some industries are dominated by Indian or Chinese people, so the competition in technology industry is high. Please never give up, remember that most of hallmark movies are filmed here. Los Ángeles is close, and your steps ahead of many people (filmmakers and photographers) would like to live here. 😊

Please don’t say you are all alone! You have a huge subscriber base of people who care about you and wish you well, always, and wherever you work from. Bali would seem to be a good place for you to recharge and think about what you want to do with your life from this point. The start of this video was full of beauty and very enjoyable. Made me want to see future videos, but focus on your well being and not us subscribers.

I left UK a month ago after living for 3 years there. Being brazilian I could not get use to the people there they are not aproachable, the weather, and the food were the main reason to me have left and come back to Brazil. Congrats for you. Salaries in London are still very good. London is a gate to the world. You can travel anywhere for long weekends or for long term holidays and for very cheap if you are clever and plan properly. Yes, you have to be strong and once you overcome things that you can’t control like the weather then you are just fine.

I came across your channel last year (*at the very end of 2022, the beginning of 2023) at the lowest point of my photography career. At the time, I had been into photography for 13 years (*now 14 and counting) and I almost thought of quitting (*thank you, COVID!). I was burnt-out, tired and had lost the motivation and the creative spark. It started coming back and one of the reasons we're your videos. Can't wait to see how you're going to make things work in Bali. If you ever get tired of Asia and want to come back to Europe, why not Bulgaria (*I'm Bulgarian, so kinda biased 😂) or Greece (*which would cover the sea requirement).

Very smart your decision. Having myself lived close to London's weather (Lille, France), I felt deeply depressed there as a person who was raised most of their life in a tropical country. Made a huge difference on my mental state leaving that region.

Yes Laura you are right in what you have done, i spent 30 yrs in the photography industry with about 15yrs as a freelance photographer, burn out is a real thing even when you love what you do, working 6 to 7 days a week there is not much time for yourself to unwind. Some times you have to get out and recharge your batteries and find a new creative you, all my love and best wishes for your future endeavours, from rick Australia 🇦🇺 ❤

Thank you so much, Laura, for sharing this new chapter in your life and career. It is amazing to see how you bloom again from changing your location. I am struggling to get off the line with my photography. I am mostly into nature photography because of social anxiety. I don't even know if that is worth pursuing such a career. But like you, I am the most relaxed behind my camera and in nature, so nature photography is a way for me to detach and recharge my mental health. I used to love portrait photography, but because of so many bad experiences, the task of portrait photography just makes me sick. Can I have a career as a content creator with social anxiety? Thank you for all your great videos. They are a huge inspiration every day.

Hi Michael! Thank you so much for your incredible words and your support! 🥰 I totally understand what you’re going through. You can have a career with social anxiety but you just need to see what you feel comfortable shooting. Lifestyle photography is very profitable but you still need to shoot with people. Landscape photography can be monetised through stock photography, selling your own prints, and even to tourism board around the world. If it’s what you love doing, just try to monetise it till you find more niches you’re comfortable shooting. 🥰. Big hug Michael and THANK YOU again!

I wish you all the best and much success. I understand your problems with London, I have always loved London but now it has become too much for me, too expensive and far too hectic. I never lived there, but I went there 5-6 times a year (photo workshops). Bali is of course far away, but if you see a market there it will definitely be very exciting.

The potential challenges in sustaining connections with her European and London-based clients. 3. The possible reduction in income due to the currency change, considering Bali's lower cost of living compared to London and Europe, but also the fluctuating nature of the currency exchange. 4. The difficulty of building a new social circle, adapting to a different culture, and establishing new friendships or acquaintances. 5. The implications for her tax obligations and financial management in this new setting. I’ve been dreaming with taking the same big move/decision she did, hopefully I will succeed on so many challenges it implies.

As a British person who left the UK to live in Europe I totally get everything you said about the downsides of the UK. Even the fact I enjoy a couple more hours daylight in winter is reason enough to get out of that tiny "isosceles triangle island of bad weather and hatred" as Frankie Boyle called it. England is a sterile land of high costs and a desire to isolate itself from the rest of the world. It's sad but everyone is killing themselves to live. There is more to life than that, and I'm so happy for you that you have moved to be at peace with yourself! Good luck for a bright future!

It might be there's a language barrier. Do you focus on getting local clients or a foreigner? My point is most local people will prefer local photographers so it does affect the marketing or getting leads. I wonder how you manage or whats your workflow

Welcome to bali indonesia hope you gain more succesfull and happy life, while in indonesia if u love to shoot underwater you can go to raja ampat and banda sea for amazing underwater life and corals, visit derawan or matratua island in kalimantan to swim with whale shark, and stingless jellfish in kakaban island, togean island sulawesi, and Misool raja ampat, for wildlife definitely dont missed out to sail around komodo national park in flores labuan bajo, treking on bukit lawang to see wild orangutan in sumateran jungle, for mountain mount bromo national park and mount ijen in east java absolutely amazing the views is just like on another planet for me at least 😅🙏
