We have been BIG fans of Ashly's podcast and Instagram account, Come Back Podcast. We were thrilled when she agreed to come and share her story on Saints Unscripted! Ashly talks about her life being raised in the LDS Church (otherwise known as the Church of Jesus Christ) but finding excitement in other places, leading her to leave the church. She got into drugs and alcohol at an early age and was quickly addicted to heavy drugs. She knew something had to change but doubted her ability to change. She started the reptenace process and felt an overwhelming feeling of joy. Her story is one you don't want to miss! She has now dedicated her time to hearing and sharing the stories of others who have left the church and have returned.

Thank you Ashly for sharing your story of the power of Jesus Christ and His capacity to heal. His GRACE truly is AMAZING! My wife and I just discovered your podcast and have listened to a few of your episodes and love the stories of return and renewal. I know David Snell and his parents really well. His dad, Jeff, is one of my very good friends. Like you, I was featured on Saints Unscripted telling my story of my family's battle with addiction (so I can relate to your journey). For me it was pornography. I've also been interviewed by Kurt Francom a few times. I'm such a fan of vulnerability and I'm amazed at how you, the younger generation aren't nearly as afraid of speaking the truth as us older folks. Please, please keep telling stories that are filled with hope and redemption and don't stop girl, pedal to the metal! 💙🙏💙

@Eternally Catholic I disagree with you. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is based on God, the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. Helaman 8:12..."remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall." Joseph Smith was called as his servant and was inspired to bring forth the Book of Mormon from which the above quote from the Book of Helaman is taken.
@emh7956
@emh7956 Год назад
@Eternally Catholic Joseph Smith sought to bring us to Christ...just as Moses tried to bring the children of Israel to Christ. He was a prophet, called of God to be his mouthpiece to His children on earth. That is my witness to you.
@emh7956
@emh7956 Год назад
@Eternally Catholic If God has warned us against false prophets, then it follows that there are true prophets. Joseph Smith was a true prophet. He restored the true Church of Jesus Christ. The Church needed to be restored because there was an apostacy, a falling away. I appreciate that you are dedicated to your faith and are doing all you can to convince me that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is not the true church. I believe, however, that it is. I know for myself by the whisperings of the Holy Spirit. I know that Book of Mormon is the word of God. I know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He condesended to come to earth to live a perfect life of example for us and to suffer and die so that we could be forgiven of our sins and to return to the presence of our Father. I think we both can agree to praise His holy name.

Satan can be so wily and it can be so easy to forget the experiences we’ve had that brought us to faith. I’ve had many opportunities where my faith came down to a simple choice to remember what God has done and hold on or to forget. ❤❤ hope you can climb your way back into the light!

This 🙌🏼 I remember on the bathroom floor praying to God saying "I am not moving until I know of this is wrong or right" - I had a lot of doubts. And finally at the end of it God was like "I'm not going to answer what your asking me about at this time but I want you to remember all of the things that made you believe in the first place." And once I pondered that and remembered some really important memories that testified to me of the reality of God and my faith in his church that he led me to. I'm so grateful I didn't just give up - I'm glad I was truly seeking and open to what God wanted to tell me. Remembering those has changed my life. Jesus Christ means everything to me.

This is very similar to my own story, except my detox was a more gradual process and didn't happen till I was in my late 30s! I came back into the church and the Come Follow Me lessons of the past year have been such an eye opening experience (thanks to the Follow Him podcast), and I try to combine that with reading the Book of Mormon everyday. Once you gain that testimony of the Book of Mormon, God will reveal the truth of the restoration if you search and pray, I believe that and have experienced it. I'm also in a small ward and have been able to teach a youth class, which has pushed me to really learn about the old testament.

Much of the problem is that kids still keep getting taught the wrong concept of hell. They think of it as the cartoony burning place. They don’t realize that sin IS what hell is. Once a person learns that their sin brings hell, they try to get rid of it. And like a toxic boyfriend, it comes back again and again until we learn to defeat it. It takes time and the Lord knows that. That is why what He cares for is a TRULY broken and contrite heart and evidence of faith shown in the form of efforts to improve. That’s what it means to “be perfect”. For by taking those steps in faith and love, we become perfect in heart eventually.

@@zionmama150you didn’t even give a rebuttal to their response haha. I agree with you sin is hell as Buddhists believe reality is filled with dukkah essentially a perpetual cycle of disappointment and lack of fulfillment I believe that earth is our hell and we will keep coming back until we’ve learned the lessons we need to live eternally. I’ve grown up in the church and still attend regularly but it is my fathers church not mine. I don’t believe it is a bad or hateful place but modern day religious institutions spread seeds of spiritual doubt. I believe in an afterlife and a loving god but I don’t need an institution to tell me that I only need my own personal day to day experiences to reaffirm that. Churches are houses for broken people I god has put them their for people who need them but they are not objective truth and never will be the only true church is the church of men the people that surround us and until we realize this as the fallen divine beings we are we will never futile what gods true plan of unity is.
@zionmama150
@zionmama150 11 месяцев назад
@@Dimitriptamine I gave a rebuttal that was intended to explain, not argue. Regardless, this goes back to the idea that we are not given final judgment WHEN we die, but rather there is a waiting period where we live in the realm of spirits. We process our life and seek to correct errors as well as help God’s children on Earth. The reason for this is that resurrection happens after the final judgment. And that resurrection won’t happen until Christ comes back. So yes, our sufferings will end. But there is a process. Hell is sin. Hell is regret. Hell is shame. It takes a while and perspective that we don’t have here on Earth to fully overcome it. That’s why it is only through Christ’s grace we are saved, but to accept that gift, we must choose some action that shows faith in Him. Believing His way enough to act is faith enough to be saved. If a person has no faith, they will not act. So action is faith. Dead-works is described in the scriptures and refers to ordinances done incorrectly. Faith requires good works or it is not faith. This is why being a part of the correct church (Christ’s church) is vital, for the symbolism of the ordinances teaches us properly how to overcome sin and come back into the presence of God.

Nothing needed to be added as her message or I guess interjected throughout I should say. Her message alone was powerful enough and the topic is serious enough.

Ashley, I'm in a similar situation, but I know as an addict you left SO much out. It's so weird because I've been getting SO much from your podcast. I wanted to check out your story. I was a little disappointed, but I'm hoping it's because of the interview. There were so many things I wanted you to talk about, especially what drove you to drugs. I have always been that guy who's quiet until he's not , but that allowed me to sit back and observe a lot of things, I notice a lot of things others don't, like if we were in ninth grade together, your were the type of person I'd give meth to. You'd would talk all night, and TELL ME EVERYTHING. The next day your coming back with all your $hit to cluck. Do you wanna know why I would of picked you ? Because you were bored and wanted to be COOL and that being COOL part is where I knew I had you. This is the type of honesty I wanted to hear, why was it so important to fit in but more then that why would you want to fit in with the type of people you were hanging out with ?

The church doesn’t and has never had the power to save or change a persons heart ONLY JESUS CHRIST CAN SAVE AND CHANGE HEARTS. I’ve heard similar stories from other people from other churches saying their church saved them. I think that as believers in Christ we should be more aware of where the power and authority to save and change is coming from which is CHRIST. The LDS church and other churches should stop using their salvation/ change of heart stories to prove their church is the only true church because at the end it’s not the church it’s CHRIST who’s makes ALL THINGS POSSIBLE. Christ is the common denominator in all these stories which is way many people from different religions see miracles in their lives. The atonement of Jesus Christ is available to EVERYONE and not limited to just one church….this was a beautiful story of what CHRIST can do for a person when they genuinely invite him into their lives.

I totally agree that people should be more Christ centered. It is because of Jesus Christ and that seems to slip peoples mind sometimes. The atonement is available to everyone, however ordinances have to be performed through a line of authority (still available, or at least will be, to everyone). Thankyou for your thought. Because of you sharing this comment I will try to be more Christ centered and remember that it is all because of Him.

the BOM teaches us that God is a liar, a contradictor of Himself, does not allow true agency, and gives man the desire to sin. In fact the BOM shows that God's intention is for us to sin. Why is there even a church at all?

@@sertinduhm6378 "Liar" I don't see what you're talking about "Contradicts himself" Are you talking about how God gave man the ability to use their agency is God contradicting himself? God wants us to use our agency to choose him, he does not want to make us into his puppets. Or is it thing with Adam and Eve? Here is the deal, if you don't think that the fall of Adam and Eve was a good thing, then you believe in a God who is on plan B. Doesn't sound very omniscient in my mind, in fact verse 24 says that all things have been done in the wisdom of him who knoweth all things. "does not allow true agency" literally the opposite 16 - Wherefore, the Lord God gave unto man that he should *act for himself*. Wherefore, man could not act for himself save it should be that he was enticed by the one or the other. 27 Wherefore, **men are free** according to the flesh; and call things are given them which are expedient unto man. And they are free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil; for he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto himself. "Gives man desire to sin" That is not what Ether says. God literally makes weak things strong according to ether. God certainly has a habit of using small and simple (weak) things to bring to pass great things. (making them strong in the process of obedience, faith, discipleship, etc.) - David overcoming goliath - Fishermen to serve as apostles - Isaiah was "slow of speech" - Moses was the same - Joseph Smith to bring about the Book of Mormon. - etc.

@@Sunshine-eo2sp here, let me break it down. God gave 2 commandments, to have children, and to not eat the fruit. The BOM states that Adam and Eve could not have children unless they partook of the fruit. this is a confradiction that is only further shown through the plan of Salvation. Christ cannot come into the world without partaking of the fruit. So in essence, God commanded Adam and Eve contrary to His plan, to His promises in the Pre earth realm, and contrary to His Will. So, yes, God lies in the BOM (which means He ceases to exist.) As for Ether 12:27 it states that God (not Satan) gives us our weaknesses. So yes, God is giving the desire to sin as well.
