There's a ton of cards in the Yu-Gi-Oh Trading Card Game, and many archetypes of cards to choose from if you wanna build a Deck, and the advent of the free-to-play online simulator Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel makes the game even more accessible than ever, what with its massive card database, incredible music, and top-tier visual presentation. And I have this game to thank for far more than just giving me a way to play Yu-Gi-Oh consistently again after a several-year gap due to a lack of an IRL scene where I live -- one of those being introducing me to my new favorite archetype, Darklords!
Believe it or not, Yubel isn't quite my number one favorite (despite how much time I've spent recently talking them up in videos), as that spot belongs to the Darklord archetype, one that got its first proper in-archetype support in 2016's core set "Destiny Soldiers", but actually has origins that trace back as far as the Yu-Gi-Oh GX era (and even further than that, retroactively, given a couple of renamed cards). But what makes these fallen angels my favorite archetype? Well, hopefully I'll do a good job explaining it in this video, so shuffle your Deck and get ready to rebel against a higher power, as I tell you why I like the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG archetype known as the Darklords!

Hey, everyone, and welcome to this fun little rambly video about my favorite Yu-Gi-Oh archetype, the Darklords! This is definitely a bit different from the other "Why I Like" videos I've done, since I'm not focusing on a single character from a piece of media, but I think it still fits the vibe of the series. And I'm actually pretty proud of some of the edits I did for this video, so I really hope you all like it! I've got a couple other videos rattling around in my head for what I could do somewhere later in April, so hopefully I can get something together on that front in the next week or two. Most likely it's either gonna be another "What If...?" or another "Matter Of Character" video, depending on what I'm leaning more towards. At any rate, I hope everyone's April is off to a good start! I love Darklords, if you add in dark honest and use Darklord Morningstar for the fusion summon you can get rid of an opponents cards and have a response for any cards that allow other cards to summon from the graveyard on your turn. Alongside paying LP to get out another Darklord monster.

Eyyyy, a fellow Darklord enjoyer :D Instant click on the video The funniest thing that ever happened to me was placing Ukoback on my opponents field with Indulged and watching with horror as they activated it's effect. One of the coolest games I ever had Also slight correction: Condemned heals you for every fairy on BOTH sides of the field, making her even better

Darklords are also my favorite archetype, I affectionate refer to them as Bricklords and I’ve been playing them since I bought a box of Destiny Soldiers to build my first good and proper deck that wasn’t a bunch of random cards that vaguely but not really work together. I pray for new support cards every time Konami releases a new set.

I too was introduced to the Darklords by Master Duel. I have Darklord Ixchel in IRL. Little fun fact, the First Darklord is straight up called Lucifer in the OCG.

dark lords are one of those decks i always return to. its so much fun. tho i have also been loving volcanics a lot with the new cards in MD. but without a doubt, my favorite archetype of all time has to be suships.

Ooh, Suships are a good shout! They always look so cool. I just love that the Normal Monster's flavor text is basically a Yelp review (and the reason it's a Level 4 Monster is because the reviewer rated it 4 stars).

@@SuperNerdDaniel best part is that all the cards SR or lower. so they are a super good low budget deck and you can mix them with basically any XYZ deck. tho i will recoremend making a going 2nd suship deck. as much as i love Super Dreadnought Uni as a boss monster... only negating in opponents battle phase is not good... what is good is when you make it and your opponent tries to imperm it, then you just quick effect negate their negate and go: HOLD ON, let me cook. XD its the best feeling ever. and even better then that is if you can get 2 out. god i love when cards are soft once per turn

Yesterday i just watched a video talking about the darklord lore which has become one of my favourite archetype lore (only behind Vendreads) and im happy to see more people talking about this archetype As for my favourite Archetype, it has to be Dragunity. It's my first ever deck i played in dueling book and Master Duel once i finally managed to play yugioh in some way. The design (both mechanics of equipping your dragon type tuners and the artworks themselves) is incredibly cool (im also a 5ds/synchro kid so theres a bit of a bias there). And their lore being the reason why the ice barrier dragons were sealed is just so epic to me. Oh, and one more thing to say... JUSTICE FOR MY BOY DARKLORD NASTAN!!! HE DID NOTHING WRONG!!!

@@SuperNerdDaniel Yeah they don't appear that much in the lore. They appear during the Ice Barrier Dragons seals and (at least from what I've heard) stopping the worms a little bit. The last time they appeared is in Dragunity Divine Lance (where basically the Dragunity as a species are long gone and the only thing left remain are parts of the dragons) which was the reason Infernoid Devyati (and to some extent Decatron because Decatron is basically Devyatis Head) was defeated.

Y’know, I’ve started to become fond of these guys myself. I’ve just made my own one in MD, and after mulling over which fairy deck to have in RL I’ve decided on Darklords too. The doubling down effects in the graveyard rather appeals to me also. Between these and Agents, I find our fallen ones more fun.

I was SO happy that we got Darklord support that expanded the archetype and especially loved how they tied it to the Forbidden Quick play spell storyline and Condemned Maiden (Who i believe is supposed to be based on Lilith) Edit: got to the part where you mentioned Condemned Darklord being labeled as Pandora and tbh i don't see it, she has more in common with Lilith who is someone that also was condemned and cursed because Lilith wanted to be equals with Adam, the maiden dabbling in the forbidden items feels like it is closer to how God forbade Adam and Eve from the Fruit of the tree of knowledge. this also raises the question then of how Condemed Darklord got a hold of Zerato since he's supposed to be an archlord, given that we had the quick play Forbidden Droplet and it showing one of the darklords being forced to drink it i think Condemned Darklord FORCED some of the archlords who still served heaven to become corrupted which, yeah kinda makes their revenge less noble looking

I've been wanting to play Darklords for a while wanted a reason to play them competitively since my Tear engine is almost done (I'm missing one Schieren) I have the First Darklord IRL as an OCG card in Ultra Rare he's just so cool

@@yoshikagekira1807 Honestly, I haven't tried it? I've mainly focused on Darklords and other Fairy-centric archetypes, though Darklord/Tear probably wouldn't be the worst potential mashup, as long as you take the best and most consistent pieces from both. They do both like sending stuff to the Graveyard, for different reasons, so there's certainly potential there, especially if you run Reasoning or Monster Gate to do big mills. Honestly, probably worth a shot!

Really cool video, alwalys loved darklords🤙🏻❤ My fav archtype is dreammirror, the cards are just so sexy honestly and their playstyle is rly unique and fun, and even now with fiendsmith they have become stronger and more consistent having a blast playing them rn😎

My favorites are Yubel and DDD. I grew up with YUGIOH GX so Yubel has a special place is my heart. For D/D/D I kinda like the whole Faustian Bargain kinda side from there Theme. You basically sell a part of youre Life(points) to them and they help you. You want to search a Monster from deck? Sure, make a contract with this Gate. But next turn you have to pay the cost~ You want to Reborn a Monster? No problem, just dont forget to pay. Plus the Art from Machinex on this Throne ready to make a deal is just sick.

I love Vaylantz. They're so cool the way there is 2 sides of the deck. I really really wish their goofier effects and boss monsters were more viable. I just love scooting my monsters around the field like I'm playing chess.

I made Vaylantz an insane board braker deck by playing a number of Kaiju cards. You get rid of your opponents monsters, push the Kaiju into a spell/trap to destroy it and then bounce it back to YOUR hand with Grand Duke for big dmg, making it extremely easy to otk

I have played a "lair of the darklords" deck for years. It's not super competitive, but can hold Its own. I really wish they would get more support. I recreated my deck in master duel as well.

I mean, I've definitely thought about something like that! It's not the sort of thing I typically do, so I don't know how well it'd go over here, but if it's something people would be interested in, I'd consider it. That said, I've never played Duel Links (I mainly play on Master Duel), so I don't know how helpful it'd be for that format?

My favorite archetype is infernoids. Kinda for a similar reason you like darklords. The duel terminal lore is rather weird and in it infernoids are seen like the biggest threat yet. But aome say they whete made by the gods which doesnt make sense. In some normal mornsters like the qli its mentioned they are like a virus to life , anti life of some sort. I like to think this machines where made eons ago by a now lost civilization in an attempt to replicate gods themselves at the image of sophia and tierra (and maybe fucking a-vida if we ever get a connection on how that ended in the world legacy lore) but this creations where to much , festering on human souls. Machines overcoming life itself to feed off of souls and destroy everything in its path. Sophia was like “wowowowowowo ….wtf” from here idk much of the specific dt lore but i know sophia herself didnt seal the noids because they had the equal opposite power of tierra by her side. I just love the concept of humas making something to rival god and it going rouge on both

@@cottonuwu3167 Oh yeah, for sure, the whole "Playing God and having it blow up in your face" thing is definitely one of my favorite tropes. It's part of the same reason I like Type:Null/Silvally from Pokémon so much, it's basically the result of the exact same kind of hubris.

So… their lore is like… over? No more darklord support? Imagine a new darklord monster who if he’s used to fusion summon Lucifer, Darklord of the Morning Star (srry this name is so much more cool then The First Darklord), you gain the effect to dump a darklord spell/trap to copy its effect. I’ve always considered the boss a little lackluster, even tho he’s good

Wow, I can see why you love this archetype so much. But I never knew that Master Duel was free to play. Do the cards still cost money, like in the Pokemon TCG where you have to buy actual packs and then enter a code to use them in the game?

Actually, no, you could build a competent Deck totally for free in Master Duel! There's in-game currency called Gems that you can obviously spend real money on, but you can earn them for free just by completing Daily Missions (you get three each day, worth 40 a piece upon completion), as random rewards sometimes after completing Ranked Duels, as rewards for participating in events, and sometimes they'll just give Gems as part of special celebrations, like the one that's happening right now to celebrate the fact that they just hit 60 million downloads! Also, the game has a Solo Mode, with several paths that give you little bits of lore about different archetypes (some have more than others, so the paths are varying lengths), and also each of them typically has at least one stage where the reward is a one-time thing of 200 Gems, and there's a LOT of Solo Mode paths to play through now 2 years into the game. Just to put that all in perspective, a single pack in-game would cost you 100 Gems apiece, or you can pull 10 packs all at once for 1000. That being said, between all the ways you can get Gems just by playing the game, you should be able to put something decent together in no time! And hey, even if your pulls don't get you what you're looking for, you can always dismantle them for in-game crafting materials that you can use to craft specific cards yourself later on. Honestly, it's pretty generous to new players (which is part of the reason why certain challenges requiring a fresh account are probably so popular amongst MD players), so if you're curious, I'd say give it a shot! It's on basically every platform, so you've got nothing to lose, really.

Also, broken record alert, but you know what other franchise revolves around anime teenagers controlling creatures based on figures from various world mythologies and using their combined power to defeat gods? Persona. All the more reason why I think you'd like it.

If the Darklords were truly like their mythic counterparts than as the living form of the sin or pride, and by extension the other seven sins as pride is the foundation of all sin and evil, then Lucifer (And Asmodeus, the living sin of lust) would most certainly have a mass orgy in the Sanctuary in the Sky to further desecrate everything the Solemn God stood for. Oddly enough Michael is also a card. He's a synchro monster in the lightsworrn archetype and rides judgement dragon.
