That small coil is way better. Lighter, and nails targets well. Best bang for buck. I went to the larger one for a bit. 30 min later back to smaller one. Now I just leave it on always.
I just got an AT Pro about 3 weeks ago. My last detector was 40 years ago and it finally died a natural death. I live where the ground if ferrous and a lot of iron oxide powder in the soil. This detector works great with the coil that comes with it. I am making a test bed and having to remove all the junk metal in it. The land I live on so I was told was previously used as a junk yard. After finding a lot of junk metal ( nuts, bolts, nails, wire) I can believe it. I've heard others say the AT doesn't detect deep targets, well I've been finding and digging up targets as deep at 13 to 14 inches deep ( nails, nuts, washers). It's great practice finding the junk, perhaps some day I'll be able to find something good. The AT Pro is a great metal detector and I am very happy with it so far.
Loving my AT PRO. Upgraded from the Ace 250. I got the Garrett adapter and have been using Rapoo wireless headphones. Love them! Soooo nice not being tethered to the machine by hot-in-summer bulky headphones. About to buy a 5x8 coil for trashy areas. But I still pulled my first Merc out of a trashy yard yesterday. You gotta listen to the sounds. If it pings high along with med/low there might be a silver around some nails!
The Sniper coil that looks like a hokey puck does even better in trashy areas and gets the same depth . Stick with the AT-Pro and get good with it like I did my AT-Gold you will love it . Go to company web site and they have instructional videos that will be a big help. My friend has a Minelab E-Trac and he digs a lot more trash then I do . Listen to the tones and watch the numbers is the key to learning what is trash and what is not . Tip, when you are unsure what size the target is hold your detector a foot above the ground and if it still goes off it is something large . Normally a can but not always . And it is the not always that will thrill you sometimes .
I've been running a whites spectrum XLT since about 2003 just picked up a AT Pro this past week very impressed with it I got it because I wanted to hunt the beaches here around Miami but without buying a dedicated Beach machine As I am in the military and in as little as the next year I could be without a beach to hunt very impressed with this little machine hope to see you out there
I agree with pretty much every thing you've said. The reason why the 5x8 coil is the way to go on this machine is because the stock coil has a detecting halo which in many cases produces less precise pinpointing. This is especially frustrating when you are water hunting, but tolerable on land if you are using a hand pin-pointer. The 5x8 coil on the other hand is far better in interpreting the precise location of the target, and I know when I switched to the 5x8 coil water hunting, it was a game changer for me. I also find it to be more sensitive to foil, so it's important to play with the sensitivity. Keeping in mind the 5x8 coil is the standard coil for the AT Gold, the sensitivity to gold flakes is understandable when your running into bits of foil. The one tradeoff with using the smaller coil is you lose some depth. One of the misconceptions with this machine is that you need to keep the sensitivity full in order to get depth, but that isn't the case at all. My favourite feature on this machine is the iron audio. I mostly use the Pro/Coin mode with iron audio enabled and it is a great feature set that allows you to visualize targets. The only thing about this machine that concerns me is the durability. I have had the arm cuff break. One 5x8 coil also malfunctioned on me. The screen cracked on it, and this is all within a few months of owning it. Having said this, they did make some redesign changes on the arm cuff and it looks a lot more durable. The service at Garrett is top notch and has more than made up for some of the durability hang-ups I've experienced using the machine. Overall, I consider this to be the best power-on and play land/water detector on the market. I hope to be able to test it's capabilities in salt water later this month and encourage you to check my channel for my experiences.
Thanx for that info about the halo as I have not yet tried it in Salt Water. Although I find it to be very precise most anywhere else. BTW, I subed ya.
I agree 100% with you Diggindetector...I have mine for 6 months now. I had a hard time during the 1st 2 weeks, but once I learned the tones and VDI ( I only use PRO ZERO) dame it's the best detector for the money. I have found 26 rings so far,(in 6 months) 15 gold rings...(10)14K rings ...(2)10K rings (3) 14K White Gold Rings....6 junk rings.... 5 silver (.925) rings... and over $1200 in clads. It already paid for the detector and the 5x8 coil already.
Amen brother. Take it from the Hell Deep digger the AT Pro is an excellent machine. No doubt about it. I change from the F75 to the AT Pro. Garrett does have excellent customer service as well.
Thanx for sharing this great video on the AT Pro. I saw a comment on the pin pointing being not precise with the Stock Coil. However with the audio and the signal bar visual combined, it is dead on. I am working on a Vid to demonstrate that and will upload it soon. Again, thanx. GL and HH.
I use mine regularly on beaches here in the U.K., yes it doesn't much like the wet sand but in pro mode it is very usable, In fact only yesterday I found an 1872 Queen Victoria silver Florin, 7 inches down in the wet sand, came in at a steady 87 in the vdi.... Love this machine!
This is my first choice in Metal Detectors, I'm so happy with it. I also purchased a NEL Storm coil. That combined with my AT Pro can find targets from 15" to 20"
I am having a terrible time with pull tabs and bottle caps coming up reading as a good target. Any suggestions on the clues my detector can give me so that I don't waste my time digging up these items? THANKYOU
I have one and it is heavy but good! I also have a tesoro vaquero that is light easy to use. I prefer to use the AT-pro but the tesoro vaquero makes a great backpack detector.
i totally agreement with you...i have the AT PRO and love it.......great all around detector.....i kinda wish i had gotten the AT GOLD..but this works for me .
Nice video ! I have some different metal detectors. The Garrett AT Pro is a very good machine mainly used with the smaller DD coils. The conductive scale is relatively precise - comparing with the concurrents. This detector is light, waterproof and also fair suitable for the beach. Regards ,
just got my at gold and cant wait to get out this spring --torture seeing it sit here but still cold here in Kentucky usa so couple weeks I will be out there
my next Detector is gunna be a AT PRO! and will be using it for under water detecting and lots of Beach Hunts! My detector now is a Ace 250 and i always suggest those to newbies!
This is sir digger from Charlotte NC . I have the at pro and the ace 400. I also have the ace 350. I love them all but most of all I love the at pro the most. Me as a African American metal detecterlest I love it. Great hunting guys. Let's find some silver and gold.
I use the at pro with the reaper 14"×11" coil it is fuckin magic i got a 1602 Elizabeth 1st silver half penny which is about 6mm across at a depth of 8" absolutely fuckin magic what a machine. Top show son Scotland sends its regards
saw a dude using one of these 3 days ago up here in new smyrna beach while i was using my excalibur and suffice to say he didnt bother retracing my search path cause he knew i already cleaned it out ..cause lets face it the excal and the dual field are the kings of the beach.i've also seen you down in palm beach bout a year ago.i got some killer interference from your detector and had to back up lol..good reviews bro
received mine 2 days ago. also purchased the 8X5 coil, which i plan to put on today. used the stock coil the 1st 2 digs. where did u get the cover for the unit? i'd like to get one just to keep it nice.
I have the Garrett AT Gold and love it, I want the Garret AT pro too, for salt water but as you said it about $550, but here In Australia it is $1000, I bought my AT gold online from the USA at $650 + free post, price here is $1100, and Garrett USA have now banned sales outside the US even on Ebay, so have to pay Garrett Australia near twice the price for the same thing. Even parts like bottom shaft are 4 times the price $45 + $18 post for a $10 part.
Hi sr.i have a question I have not experience with metal detector but I'm planing to buy one I'm not sure wich one are the best for me s have teo on mint the At pro "brand new" or the teknetics g2 + ltd "used" but like new for $400 can you help me to choose wich are the best or better thanks.
Iv just got the at pro international iv got 400i metal detector but now upgrade to the at pro what tips would you give me for the woods settings please got it at great price 300 pound with lots stuff I'm happy lad thanks man
Do they sell those plastic covers for the read out screen, or did you make it yourself? If so, how did you make it? I know it is simple but yours looks very well made. Thanks!
The AT pro is a great machine. Like all detectors though people need to really learn it and listen to what it's trying to tell them. I totally agree with the use of the 5x8 coil, it probably should have come as standard on that machine. I use mine every day and love it. Thanks for the video and HH.
I Thank you for your presentation , My best detectors in the house, so far are : I. Minelab Excalibur II , BBS multifrequency technology, 8 " coil . II. Garrett AT Pro , 15 Khz unifrequent technology ,5 x 8 " coil. III. Minelab Explorer SE, FSB multifrequency technology, 5 x 10 coil " Regards , _________________ ____________________________________________________
+craig vietor I'm old school metal detector user, and if you really want to know what the target is, you need to dig it up. Sure all the bells and whistles on these new detectors tell you (sort of) the depth, and what it is suppose to be. However, you really don't know for sure if you are getting a target ID that is about the same as a pull tab, or is it a small ring or coin. Like I said, when in doubt and you want to know what it is, dig it up.
Hi craig its steven here on my wife's tab I got a at pro international I live in tasmania and finding it hard with the rich dirt over here my pin pointer doesn't work on some ground it go's off I think to much iron thanks
well I don't share the same feelings as you . I've had mine for 3 years and it's been nothing but trouble for me . I basically have a 800 dollar paper weight ! and all this stuff that people say that garrett stands behind thier products is a lie ! and that they have the best customer service center? well thats a lie to ! not only did they take me for a 800 dollar ride but I have to pay to have my unit fixed only to find that it's still not working right again . I will never ever buy anything made by garrett or advice anyone to by garrett .
I have an AT Pro and can't say enough good things about it..did you register your unit ? My family has had 5 Garrett detectors. My brother has one that is 20 years old. . Garrett tested it at no charge and still working fine ! If it's not working then send it back again ... they will fix it ....! I'll even but it from you !
