Upon growing up, I just realized how a married men are so busy with their own children physical needs that they often forgot their own spirituality and the spirituality of their own children too. Celibate priests makes so much sense to me since his time will be 100% full on the Lord and on the Church. A celibate priests doesn't need to worry about his own children's future or work harder to earn more money. His sexual thoughts about making love on a woman will be removed. And his eyes will be more focused on the Eucharist.

Clerical celibacy is a church law, not a dogma of faith. The Eastern churches have always allowed priests to marry, if the pope woke up tomorrow and also allowed Catholic priests, there would be nothing strange or contrary to doctrine.

There actually are Catholic priest that are married. The “anglican ordinariate” established in 2012 where those Anglican priest “already married” are allowed to stay married when they come into communion with Rome. This is allowed for in the Latin Rite under the bishop of Rome.

@@Tom-od3eb I'm not sure if this is an uninformed view or an intentional falsehood. Lots of Catholic Churches do not have daily mass. And in many places Orthodox Churches offer daily services. My Byzantine priest is married, and although I love the presbytera and his children are adorable, I would have preferred that he wasn’t married because of the need to keep his life very private to protect his family and therefore he is not as available for his parishioners as the priests in the Roman Catholic Church, which I used to go to. I long for this connection with our priests as before I got into this rite. They used to be like my brother and my best friend.😢
@matuskaandme5408
@matuskaandme5408 Год назад
Married Byzantine priests do happen, but a lot are not married. Like Roman Catholic priests, not all priests are the same. Being unmarried and celibate doesn't automatically make the priest approachable or sociable. You might end up with a priest even more closed off and introverted than your married Byzantine priest. Being married or unmarried doesn't necessarily help all this. Just my limited experience though.

@@matuskaandme5408 When i was in the Roman Catholic rite, I used to go to prayer meetings in this priest’s house. We would gather some 10 or 15 of us to pray the rosary or the chapelet. Another friend priest of mine started a live-in community outside of the city. They would offer retreats throughout the year with mass and adoration, whereas we would go and stay in individual small cabins in the woods, and have a communal dinner in the dinner hall after the retreat. It was very enriching, energizing and very prayerful and solemn. With this priest, he organizes some day trips to shrines but it’s definitely not the same atmosphere. I still prefer this rite in many ways. I feel it is closer to the Church Christ has instituted.

Loads of men who preach in church are married. It does not stop them from serving their community. In fact, their wives are often very useful in helping these men serve their community. Where do you get this "need" for a celibate priesthood from, given that Paul said a elder should be the husband of one wife?

How can Shepherds attend the Flock if their interests are divided? I was watching this Anglican "Priest" on RU-vid who was married, and the first thing he brought up was his wife and family. Married Pastors main concerns are the wife and family, and not the flock. Check out 1 Corinthians 7:32-34: "I want you to be free from anxieties. The unmarried man is anxious about the affairs of the Lord, how to please the Lord; but the married man is anxious about worldly affairs, how to please his wife, and his interests are divided. And the unmarried woman or girl is anxious about the affairs of the Lord, how to be holy in body and spirit; but the married woman is anxious about worldly affairs, how to please her husband."

St. Peter was married, st. Phillip was married with children (two daughters). The Bible tells us that a bishop has to have only one wife. A man can marry and then become a priest. This is how it was in the beginning and it still is in the Orthodox Church which keeps the faith of the early Christians.

From the NRSV-CE (Official Catholic Edition of the Bible) - 1 Corinthians 9:5 - "5 Do we not have the right to be accompanied by a believing wife,[a] as do the other apostles and the brothers of the Lord and Cephas?" Peter was married. And forbidding marriage is against Scripture anyway - 1 Timothy 4:1-5 (also from NRSV-CE, Official Catholic Edition - CAPS are my emphasis for sake of readability): "Now the Spirit expressly says that in later[a] times some will renounce the faith by paying attention to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, 2 through the hypocrisy of liars whose consciences are seared with a hot iron. 3 THEY FORBID MARRIAGE and demand abstinence from foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, provided it is received with thanksgiving; 5 for it is sanctified by God’s word and by prayer." Should I believe the Catholic church's gaslighting on these issues or plain Scripture? Plain Scripture, every time.
