Being a poor graduate student with expensive tastes in shoes, I have tried different widths and lengths while thrifting on ebay along looking at clearance sales. Tongue pads when applied correctly can be huge life-savers; however, when insoles of incorrect lengths are inserted, they can slide inside the shoe and make things uncomfortable. However, with prosperity comes wisdom and careful selection. Moving forward, will be buying shoes made to order or made to measure so there will be less guesswork. Unfortunately, AE is moving away from models like the University and if there are old stock samples which don’t fit you well, I am inclined to roll the dice.
Thanks so much for making this video. I honestly believe this model was one of the best shoes AE made in the recent past. I have always thought about how AE has lost their way and don’t have any if not one (Liverpool) with modern European chisel toe aesthetic. I have 3 pairs too, but in black, walnut, and chili. After seeing your video, I will refrain from buying the newly released versions, if they pop up. I love the chili the most too, can be easily worn casually or formally. The black with the blue lining is more formal while the walnut attracts a little too much attention. I like wearing nice clothes without people shouting compliments at me while I walk.
