As someone who has moved to a new place, not knowing anyone, I loved your take on travelling alone, and I'm so glad that you decided to chat about it! People are so kind, and you'll meet the most interesting of people this way, because, yeah, strangers are more likely to want to connect if you're by yourself (as you said in your video). Even doing small things like eating at a restaurant alone isn't so scary once you just go out and do it. I love travelling with others as well, but I totally agree that it's definitely worth doing solo, even if it's a small portion of the trip. I flew to Boston, MA, a few years ago -- totally solo; never been before -- and it was such a confidence-builder! As someone who overly fusses about how others are feeling (something I'm trying to work on), it felt amazing to live selfishly for myself for a few days. And just to add some tips for those who are socially anxious -- I find that bringing a book with you helps a ton (especially if you're self-conscious about cellphones). Don't have a cool book to bring with you? Why not stop by the local bookstore alone and pick one up on the way! Not only does this give you something to do during those anxious moments, but it also might pique someone's interest and viola! you have a conversation starter! As a woman who gets pretty awkward in public, the biggest tip I have for anyone is to love yourself and not be too afraid of your own eccentricities -- life is way too short.

I traveled alone for the first time earlier this year, and I have to say I really love it. Everyone I knew, including my boyfriend, thought it was weird. I don't think one is necessarily better than the other, but you definitely experience the country/city in a whole nother way than you would if you went with others. I would recommend everyone try it if they can. (:

I love travelling alone. I can do everything I want, meet people I won’t meet (I often sleep in hostels). I don’t really have a lot of friends but when I’m travelling alone I feel more outgoing!

I love traveling alone ! It’s so fun I can take my time on doing what I want. I’ve traveled with a group of friends a couple of time and idk it’s fun at first but I get socially exhausted quickly . I’ve traveled with 1 friend only and that was fun I love duo traveling uwu it’s more personal and feels more intimate

i love the idea of laid back trips. as much as planning and structure can give you the most bang for your buck it'll never compare (in my opinion) to just visiting another town and seeing all it has to offer casually than having a rigorous schedule to follow. i adore these vlogs and i can't wait for more

tbh can't relate to following a "rigorous schedule" as you put it (in my mind that's planning activities and meals hourly). travel, especially international, is too unpredictable for that. however, doing a bit of research to have options for things you want to do on your trip, I recommend to all. it's the sweet spot. you can do whatever one(s) you feel like on the day and fill in the gaps with the unplanned stuff. this is what I do for all my trips now and it's the perfect balance. however I know people who genuinely don't care if they miss out on amazing things and just want to purely relax and wander on their trip and that is fine too. like I say, it's your money and your time! p.s. next vlogs coming soon :)

ah i get so excited every time you post ♡ im planning on traveling alone in january and im honestly so scared, but i think im gonna do the "go with the flow" route. this has definitely helped with my anxiety

that's wonderful 🤗 and great to hear that taking the more unplanned route works for you. I typically "go with the flow" when I'm in tropical places for some reason. it feels more slow paced and the perfect time for that 🌴 planning usually helps when there's a lot to see and do and you don't want to miss out on your must-dos 📝

Ive taken one trip alone to NYC which is only about 5 hours from where I live and it was amazing. I want to go to california however its on the other side of the country and ive never flown before!

I live in Eastern Oregon and I love it here. It's nothing like Portland but we drive to through Portland to get to the coast and I have friends and family all throughout that area. Portland is cool but it's so expensive and it's pretty dirty now with tent cities and drug addicts. But of course there are really nice parts too. I live in the country, in the Baker valley between 2 giant mountain ranges. Multnomah Falls is one of my all time favorite places, it's so beautiful and feels like a place out of a fairytale. I'm a photographer so I've taken pictures there many times. Oregon is such a wonderful place, I don't think I will ever move away from here.

I don’t think I could travel alone. I have way too much anxiety and paranoia for that. If I could it would truly be a feat. I think it would be cool to have my own individual excursions around where I live or when traveling with others though. I really admire your view on traveling alone. This was such a nice and cozy vlog. Can’t wait to see more of your trip.

I would love to travel alone. There are just some fears that come with it since I'm a young female like you (20years old). Maybe I'm paranoid, but I'm just really scared of being followed, trafficked etc once some creep notices that I'm on my own. :( maybe you can get into that topic if you make a seperate video about that. Otherwise I really LOVE traveling and would love to go on my own one time.

Had a quick question, I’ve been following your stories each time you uploaded, what app did you use to take those pictures of Portland that looked like vintage film??? that is so awesome to hear! and wow if I had known you wanted them for wallpapers I would have been more than happy to send the files directly to you via insta DM (especially if there was one you wanted that had text/gifs/location tags over them on my story). the app is called Ulike and you'll find the filter easily in there, but credit goes to @bonjour.sera on instagram as she is the one who kindly shared that app with me in the first place as I loved how her stories looked Lol. definitely check out her page too! also the photos on my story look especially good as I took them on my Canon G7X Mark II, not iPhone :)

How did you prepare yourself for driving in the US for the first time? I'd be afraid to drive in Australia simply because I'm not used to the switched road/steering wheel!

Hi!! Just discovered your vlogs and I really love them :) I would love to know how you budget for this. Especially since you travel alone- not splitting all those hotel and airbnb fees add up and I would love to hear trips for trip planning. Also would love to know if you have another job etc. :)

Hi Mia! Thanks for watching and for your comment. RU-vid is not my main/only job, but it does form some of my income. For this trip I used points to pay for a couple of flights and I also got my international return flight on sale. Otherwise time spent in the location is what helps keep me within budget, choosing more affordable locations (for example, originally I wanted to go to Atlanta and Savannah GA, but it was far to expensive to do alone for the amount of time I wanted) and of course spending many hours researching for the best deals. I had intended to make a whole video on how I plan these international trips and post it this year, but due to the pandemic I feel it would not be relevant to post it now. Eventually I will be sharing that on my channel though.

I'm definitely an introvert! Although I'm also pretty good at adjusting to environments where I may be required to be extroverted, as many introverts are :) and I can definitely relate a lot to that feeling of needing to "recharge" after social events.

I actually had a brief driving lesson when I stayed in the US for 3 months during 2015, just to get my bearings and brush up on some of the road rules that are different to Australia. Ever since then, it comes naturally! Like riding a bike. However, it's coming back home that can be interesting, sometimes I accidentally drive on the wrong side for just a second or two on quiet roads, before I have to remind myself to get back on the left side Lol

do you have any tips on staying safe when traveling alone? obviously being aware of what’s going on around you is a big one, but I’m curious as to your general thoughts on personal safety.

this is why I am thinking of making a dedicated video on the topic, I actually do have many tips for staying safe. some quick ones I can share now would be staying aware as you said, checking airbnb reviews to make sure it's a safe neighbourhood, not staying out late at night to more dangerous/shady or isolated areas, always being sure I have enough gas to get where I'm going, park in well-lit areas if I'm somewhere sketchy, try not to give too much info to strangers (i.e. avoid telling them I'm travelling alone if I feel necessary) and so on!

I lived in London for two years and have travelled to a bunch of places all over Europe as a child. I was last there in 2013, I went back to London and Sweden (we have family in Sweden). There are many European destinations on my bucket list though 📝 I'd like to go back soon. As for Central and South America, someday for sure. Backpacking is not for me Lol
