After 12 years of living in Thailand I am moving back to Ireland. What an amazing journey the last 12 years has been. I've met amazing people throughout my time in Thailand, people who I'll never forget. It really has been a life-changing experience and I am very sad to go.
I came to Thailand when I was 23, a young kid filled with adventure. I really wanted to see what the world had to offer. What an adventure it was! I loved every minute of it. The last 2 years have been especially memorable since I started this RU-vid channel. I got to meet interesting people and share these experiences with all of you. I am truly humbled and honored that people watched my videos. Creating digital content took me way out of my comfort zone and in doing so I unleashed something in me that I never thought I had.
If you're reading this then you may be wondering why I'm going back. Well.... in this video you'll find out.
Thank you for coming on this journey with me.
Pete

For many of us, Thailand is like a lover that we can never get rid of, never forget, never get out of our heads. If you go home for 10 years not a day will go by that you won’t think of this country. You will never stop missing it. It’s something that is hard to put into words but it’s unmistakable.

I was informed by the members of my group about you leaving Thailand. Most of them did subscribe to your channel after our interview. Immediately I decided to check out your video. Its sad to see you leave Pete. You are a good man. And I literally felt my heart sink and could sense your pain. I felt as if someone I knew for years and someone close to me has left - even though I hardly met you for a few hours that day. Whatever you decide in life Pete - I sincerely wish you all the best. You are a wonderful human being. And I wish you the best for whatever life has to offer you. Take care my friend & fellow youtube. Until we meet again. I haved lived in Bangkok for 27 years. I have a solid business and am happy with both my professional, and family life, here in Bangkok, nonetheless, one of the hardest things about living here is watching virtually all of your friends eventually leave. Very few people come here at a relatively young age and spend the rest of there life here. It can be unnerving to feel as though you are the "last man standing". Covid has accelerated the exodus. As you watch all your friends move on, you need a strong will to remain confident staying is the right decision for you.

Man did you express that well Mark. Having few long term friends and knowing that even the long term folks will likely leave at some point is a bit heartbreaking isn't it? I've been here 10 years so far, and while I hope this is the place I die, I know that due to an unforseen circumstance, I could be one of the people who also move on. Mark, I'd love to know your thoughts on how to remain satisfied with life in Thailand. Thank you.

I had just returned from the USA back in December of 2019 and was warned by my USA embassy in BKK that things would close up. I chose to stay in Thailand since I had already lived here 17 years ( worked in Thailand for 15 years, now retired. Since I lived in a small city in a rural area it was a good choice for me. I could stay away from crowds, explore temples in the countryside and work in my garden. I felt better off than if I had returned to the States but…. There are Thai communities all over the British Isles. In the small town we lived in for 3 years when we were in Scotland, my wife quickly met a group of Thai women and had a great, thai style social life with them - food, chat and playing cards at the weekends at our houses. These ladies were a long established group and had contact with other Thais all over the UK. A series featuring these various communities and their lives would be great.

I am 61 years old and have travelled and lived and volunteered in many places throughout the world. What an abundance it has added to my life! I wouldn't change any of it for anything. Often a move or opportunity has come my way and been made fairly suddenly without even realizing what was happening and why I was making the change, but every experience has been filled with both the good and the bad and helped me grow and develop. I see the same happening for you two! If you decide to continue the channel, I think taking us on your journey -- feelings, experiences, things to see there, everyday people and how they live (interviews interspersed) would be of great interest. Maybe think of signing up on patreon to have sponsors etc. All the best!!!!

I have lived in Thailand for 36 years arriving in the country at the age of 25 in 1975 as a back packer. It's never ceased to amaze me the number of friends I've met here over the years and if I count them there's only a handful of people who've stayed and made Thailand their permanent home. They come and go. Some leaving with their tails between their legs after loosing all their doe and others just happy to get out because of bad relationships etc. Most foriegners that move here arrive with great plans to retire and live a life of Reilly. Very few make an effort to learn Thai and most find it difficult to live in Thai culture and are constantly complaining about Thailand and trying to change things to the way are back home. They use our logic and common sense that we grew up with and that is something that causes heaps of problems for them living here. Good luck in your new life and hope it works out in Ireland.

Understandable but there are also undeniably more commonalities between British and American cultures…. And if it is new professional challenges he is after, being back in Ireland is definitely going to offer him more opportunities than Thailand… SE Asia in general, puts a lot of barriers up for a foreigner to find work, that isn’t confined to online.

Wow! Such an emotional video! Wishing you both all the best back in Ireland. I’m heading back to Ireland myself after over 3 years in Thailand and 5 years in China before that. Definitely can relate to feeling nervous with the move. Unfortunately I have to leave my other half in Thailand but she’ll be coming to Ireland all going well early next year.

That really came unexpected. I wish you both the best of luck with your fresh start back in Ireland. As for the future of the channel, I'm sure there will be plenty of interesting people to interview in Ireland and the rest of the EU. You could go on weekend trips to Paris, Rome, Prague, etc. to conduct interviews, as you're not going to need a visa within the EU and show Nune a bit more of Europe. Looking forward to the next chapter of your shtory.

Our timelines and ages match up. I left Asia after about 10 years in 2020 due to covid, thought I'd return after a month or two, so I had no big farewell. Got a job as a consultant so I can work remotely, now plan on going back to Asia. I would say that you are doing the right thing if you want to learn more, grow, and stretch yourself etc. For the channel maybe you could do remote interviews with new expats, returnee expats etc. All the best.

Maybe do some vids on your reintegration back into the "West", I found it really difficult when I went back to Australia, simple things like catching up with mates isn't as easy as it is in Thailand, it was as if everything changed. Look forward to more content whatever you do pal, you've got a great character and come across super genuine. Sincerely wish you both a great life...

I would hate to go back to Scotland full time. I am 14yrs here in Thailand and have been back a total of 15 days in 14yrs. I was totally lost, did not know how things worked there now, did not know the laws and rules and hated all of the PC stuff going on since I left. It's going to be hard to transition back but good luck with your choice. Most youtubers who change location loose a lot of their audience but hope you can weather the storm. Good luck.

You’re both young and have many chapters of your life ahead of you. Moving from one chapter to the next is always risky and inevitably comes with some sense of loss of what you’re leaving behind and anxiety about what’s coming. Don’t worry about it, you’ll both do fine, and even if you don’t, you have enough time to change it. I wish you both the best. I do hope to see the channel go on…

@@somnumna2606 I was 7 consecutive years in PRC China and realistically, for sheer mental health and 'spiritual fitness' 3 years was more than enough. At 5 years I think I'd given up the will to live when Covid dragged that along 2 more years. I only got through that because, now and then, friends and family from back home would visit and for a few weeks I would feel something like being back home. Ya I don't know how the hell you made it 10 years and I can't even think of 17 years. IF I went home for a year, came back, did a year elsewhere, did a year in China.. MAYBE I could pull it off.
