Can appreciate your reasons for the need to send the headset back at this point after thorough testing. To me its totally justified. Your review is fair and balanced. Having watched your videos for a very long time now, still refrshing to get an honest and trasparent review. As you say, it is potentially kit that may be out of reach for the majority but your insights are absolutely needed to help guide the community to finding the best in vr. Good work mate!

Thanks for keeping us posted of the VR1’s progress !! Can you please , please, please distinguish between “sweet spot” and “edge to edge clarity” of the VR1. In the vr headset world “sweet spot” usually means when you initially put the headset on your head, how much you have to move the headset around to get clear and in focus image. “edge to edge clarity” is how far off of the center of your view of the screens before the image degrades. As you know the Bigscreen Beyond has a decent sweet spot but the edge to edge clarity falls off abruptly when you move your eyes out of the center of the screens, similar but worse that the HP reverb g2. You can also create any mask for mixed reality purposes with the Varjo XR4 either using your controllers or importing a 3d shape, and it also supports the same ultraleap2 module for hand tracking which already has real time hand masking...

Thanks for another great video Steve :-) The comfort shouldn't have been an issue at this was mentioned last year on the discord channel. Hopefully the final strap design adds some counterweight to balance it properly. If not, and if it's too front heavy, that's a design fail in my opinion and could be a reason to return. This is an expensive headset afterall, and expecting customers to either find a diffeent strap, or add their own weights is not acceptable.

@@VRFlightSimGuy i had a lot of issues with it. IPD adjuster was broken, right lense hard to get into focus. lots of problems with pc freezing and head tracking issues. now as the final nail in the coffin, the gyro inside the headset seems to be broken. it doesnt know anymore where „down“ is. everything inside the headset is rotated sideway for like 30 degrees. 6dof tracking itself is fine, but the floor is not flat anymore. hard to explain. probably something with the gyro sensor. thank you! yes, that‘s me with my RSV4 :)

@@NWGJulian HI Julian . What’s your Pc ? Pimax recently showed that you need a very recent PC to use the Pimax Crystal Light. For what . As it no longer has the Xr2 chip to manage tracking, the 6Dof, these two data are calculated by the processor/ram of your PC. And pimax said that you need an Intel processor from the 14000/13000/12000 series minimum Aplushhss 🇫🇷😇👍🏻

The display seems to be reallllly good ! Have you noticed those thin vertical line on blue sky like we can see in a Pimax Crystal ?

This is possibly Mura that you are noticing in your headset? I didn't see this in the VR1 I'm using.

@@VRFlightSimGuy Thanks Steve, I don't know if it's mura, I only see vertical line, it's like very soft, greynish very thin vertical line only visible on white clouds or blue sky. Can't wait to see your review of the final VR1 !

A little bit of clickbait? ;) LOL - seriously, appreciate the reviews on all the headsets and I have placed my VR1 order based in no small part on your videos. I am currently running an Aero, and it's very nice - the system stability is great, and the clarity is amazing but I am looking forward to better FOV and at some point working local dimming (night flying in the Aero is terrible). I feel let down by Varjo - they abandoned the Aero line after publically saying how successful it was. They never delivered on local dimming despite having a capable panel. I am looking forward to the open-source nature of the VR1 and like the fact that it's not made in China. I am probably in the minority and I don't want integrated audio ... I have several audio setups that I use depending on mood, how long I plan on flying for (quick mission or something long?) etc. I currently just throw on my new Arctis Nova Pro wireless, but also have an inexpensive set of $35 wired headphones and I connect to the Varjo 3.5mm jack with a short, 8" coiled cable that works great, too. My G2 has integrated audio every raves about but it doesn't compare IMO to a nice headset. Thanks for all the great reviews!

Damn, I don't remember you mentioning noticeable distortions before. Are they comparable to those of the Aero in quality and quantity? Or different? And do you really think comfort is a dealbreaker even with counterweights and comfort strap? Still too much after an hour?

I've mentioned distortion before, most people probably won't notice, but it is there with the profile I've tested. Typically, the VR Engineers has now released an improved profile, but it was too late for me to test. As far as comfort is concerned, it's too much for me at the moment. I'm hoping the final strap will improve this though.

@@lurchilurch5507oh it's definitely better. The warping is a small areas to the right and left of centre. Whether the Aero has larger warping zones at the top, bottom and sides.

I'll be doing my best to keep the Reverb G2 (with it's terrible sweetspot) for as long as possible. VR fact of life... Features and quality will improve, prices will come down (and a FFB yoke is more appealing at the moment!)

Believe me, I didn't enjoy paying for it, and I didn't like getting the Classic version that lacks eye tracking for DFR, but I also couldn't wait any longer for a good upgrade from my Index and Valve seem to not care enough to release another headset.

Summary: Amazing visuals but terrible comfort. (and nice MR/extra features for special use cases) I don't understand why Artur priced the eye tracking at 600 / 750 euro's. The profit should be made on the HMD itself not on the addon's and ET should be part of such a premium device by default now in 2024. The VR1 is just not competitive because the panels are now almost 2 years on the market with the Crystal and Varjo already uses newer panels and Pimax comes up with better panels within a half year(yes the Pimax Super will probably delay, but Somnium also constantly delays, so it's not a real argument). And added to that: no return policy at all for the US and only 1 year warranty in the US is not acceptable for a consumer device at this pricepoint too. You should have at least named these con's in your videos Steve. Because it's not fair at such a price and it are big con's for consumers. If you cannot live with the comfort and you live outside the EU then you're stuck with losing 2500+ euro's. If it dies after 13 month's you're stuck with a loss of 2500 euro. At this pricerange you simply expect a better service. That Varjo has terrible service too isn't an argument. It are both premium priced devices they need to give the buyer some security that they can ship them back if they don't like it or that it gets repaired in a normal timeframe of 3-5 years. Artur claims that this is a HMD for 5-7 years so he should back up his words with proper warranty service. He can say that it's made for long term usage but without warranty that claim is meaningless.

Btw; will you receive a final VR1 from Artur now to check if the comfort issue is fixed? Even while my comment sounds a bit negative, I still want an VR1.
