In this video, I describe why I moved from California to Texas. Job opportunities, cost of living, ease of raising a family are among those reasons. In all essence, this shows why conservative Texas is better for me than Liberal California. I speak about career, family, lifestyle, fun, and what I miss.
Here are some other Texas-related videos that I have up right now! I'll be publishing more soon!

@norvaz94
@norvaz94 5 лет назад
@@mikexcanxjerk The weather is better in LA for sure but primarily my reason to moving to Texas is because the cost of living is so much less here. My husband and I could probably afford to go back to California since now the kids are grown and on their own but 16 years ago it was appropriate for our family of six. We have traffic here in Houston but you are not in a standstill like if you were in LA. You are just driving more slowly plus there are frontage roads you can hop off if need to. In LA you are literally just stuck there. People are more friendly in Texas and the pay is almost the same but the since the cost of living is so much lower your dollar goes a long way. Here in Houston there are tons to do and after living in San Antonio for 15 years I noticed here in Houston it is more diverse. Lots of Asian markets and restaurants everywhere and there are other ethnic restaurants to choose from.

We moved to Texas in 1975 when dad was in the Army. Dad died in '89 but the whole rest of the family stayed in Texas. Forty three years later we're still here, and in the same town. There is no way that I could live in any other state. You want mountains? Drive out to the high desert in West Texas. You want lots of water? Drive out to the coast. You want cold weather in the winter? Take a jaunt up to the Panhandle. You want to drive big cars and big trucks? Do it in Texas. Everything you need is here. Who would want to live anywhere else?

When I moved to Texas I stopped at a gas station on the way down, as one does. It was the first stop I made in Texas. I filled up and was sitting in my car with the windows up and AC on, of course, it was August. This old cowboy walked over to my car, literally an old cowboy about 75 I"d say, with a cowboy hat and cowboy boots on, stereotypical of what you'd think of when you think TEXAS, and he knocked on my window. I was like, What the @#$% does this guy want ? I lower the window and he asked me, 'Are you from Minnesota' ? ( I had MN plates on my car. ) Yes, I am, I tell him. He stuck out his hand and said, 'Well, welcome to Texas'. I left there was like, damn, I think I"m in the right place. Moved to Austin, the funnest city on the face of the earth btw, got a kick ass job and the rest is history. That was in 1996. True story.

Seattle is being ruined buy stupid policies. I've lived in the area for over 20 years and now things are getting worse here. Cost of living and housing is going through the roof. For example there is a 49 cents state tax on gas. Not including federal tax. Not enough roads. Housing prices are at least time and a half more compared to TX . And there is this weather...50 shades of grey from October till at least March. Summer is not bad but for the last 2 years we had smoke from wildfires from every direction except from the ocean. Guess why the fires are so bad? Mismanagement. Tree hugger policies let the trees grow uncontrollably. I can go on and on about more stupid policies. But hopefully I can say bye to WA soon and bring myself and 3 more republican votes with me to Dallas area . Thank you

Could someone expand on this more? It's more than liberal bad conservative good. Texas is mostly libertarian, I like to call my state 'The wild west of Chaotic Good' What policies and regulations kill business? I would like to know more. Hell yeah, I'll buy some hatch green chiles from a local if they taste better than walmart. I remember watching a video about a man from california who wanted to turn his laundromat to an apartment complex, he saw a need for housing, looks like a win-win for everyone. Nope, his plan got caught up in the gentrification debate. Here's the thing, if you have the money to bypass the laws and regulations you need exorbitant prices to cover the initial cost, which makes the housing crisis worse. I love Texas, but we have most definitely fucked some parts of our society. Public education here is shit.

I travel for work so I’ve been everywhere and nothing’s to me beat SoCal the weather, mountains, beaches it’s simply aesthetically I love it, I’m staying however LA is expensive, over-regulated so I understand why people are jetting out of Cali.

love your vid sir and agree 100%. I moved to Houston (Spring) in 05 from San Jose Ca and couldn't be happier. Own my own 3/2/2 1400 sq ft house @ 968.00 principal, interest, taxes, and insurance! and drive a 2016 Corvette Z06 on 90k a year (single). If I were in California I'd be rooming with 4 or 5 guys in a crappy neighborhood and probably on Government assistance lol. I don't get what keeps ppl there because it's sooo much better here in Tx. @marioavila1559
@marioavila1559 6 лет назад
Close, My.house was 121k and I put just under 11k total down including closing cost. I could have put less down (3.5%) plus closing but wanted to be under 1k a month all in (except utilities). My utilities runs abt 75.00 a month for water, garbage, sewer, 127.00 a month for unlimited electricity (it's non stop running the ac on 65-72) lol, cable (xfinity) runs 130.00 a month with internet, gas is 35.00 a month. My water is a tad high bc I rent out one room to a roomate (550.00 a month), and we both shower 2x a day. As I stated it's wonderful here and I live in a very nice middle/working class neighborhood. No crime, break ins, vandalism, graffiti, or bars on windows etc. There is absolutely no way I could live like I do off of 91k a year in California let alone the damn Bay Area. Not at all bragging or beating my chest but I drive a 16 corvette Z06, and a 2017 Accord V6 touring (daily driver) and I'm comfy for being 32 y/o. I'm just glad I did this move in 06 instead of later. I love visiting my family in California but after a week tops I'm ready to go back home to Tx. For all of you Californians thinking abt the move to Texas just do it! Mine wasn't planned at all and I might have had like 5500.00 to my name when I made the move (and no job).

Wow congrats Mario! I hope you help keep Texas conservative. I assume house prices have gone up in Texas quite a bit last time I checked $121k in a big city in Texas doesnt get you much. Still anything under $300k is cheaper than Cali.

Sorry for the late reply, been busy working. I pay roughly 3% annually of my homes appraisal value per hcad (harris county appraisal dist) which is roughly 230.00 a month after my homestead exemption (saves a few dollars) and everybody gets that as long as you dwell in the property and don't lease/rent it out. Our property taxes are a bit higher percentage wise but definitely less dollar wise.

Bailed from Silicon Valley (the tech hub in northern CA, just 1 hour south of SF). Here's why I left: 1) government seized operational control of my business (landlord). By that I mean they took away my ability to set rents, to choose who I can rent to and who I can ask to leave, and a crapload of other new regulations that arrived very recently. Rent control there began in 1979 in some areas, and it just recently became much much worse with new legislation, and since landlords etc. can do business anywhere, over the past 40 years many made the decision to invest NOT IN CALIFORNIA, AND A SHORTAGE OF RENTALS DEVELOPED OVER TIME. Population grew. Rental properties did not keep up. I'm in that business, that is why rental housing is so expensive there -- NOT ENOUGH SUPPLY. Supply and demand. Lots of demand. But SHORT SUPPLY. Due to rent control that began in 1979, 40 years ago in some areas. And why not enough supply? I'll say it again: **Rent control there began in 1979, and since landlords etc. can do business anywhere, over the past 40 years many made the decision to not invest in Calif. AND A SHORTAGE OF RENTALS DEVELOPED.** (See mjperry.blogspot.com/2011/05/because-of-rent-control-sf-has-31000.html. That article is from SEVEN YEARS AGO. A lot more landlords quit that business since then.) The place I moved to is one of the largest, lowest-crime cities in the USA. No rent control. Apartments are plentiful. You can rent a home in an excellent school district for $2000 to $2500 a month, a home that would sell for $2-$5 million in Silicon Valley, depending on neighborhood. You can rent 3 bedroom/2 bath/2 car garage townhomes -- built in the 1980s/90s -- for as little as $1350/month. Traffic is heavy here but my tenants are MUCH LESS STRESSED OUT, there are so many rentals, they don't pay 50% of their salary on rent. Not as good for me as a landlord, financially perhaps but I love happier tenants and no rent control. I hated showing vacant units I owned in Silicon Valley to people from out of state "you want how much rent for this?/I could rent something like this for $650 a month back where I'm from" wow it was awful. I'd want to tell them "well the mortage/property tax/etc. is much higher here" -- they don't want to hear that. 2) crime increasing in the best neighborhoods. $2 million dollar home. With violent crime in the same zip code, not too far away. No way. It was never like this in the 1980s and 1990s. 3) I paid the top CA fax rate -- over 13% -- the year I left. Now I keep all of that. 4) San Franshithole. When the wife and I were at UC Berkeley for school (late 80s/early 90s) San Francisco was "The Cleanest Big City in America." I kid you not. 5) Illegals. We all like people. If we didn't we'd live in the mountains away from everyone. We all have friends, families, acquaintances. We all love dogs and/or cats too. Am I driving to the dog pound to pick up all the stray dogs and cats they picked up and bringing them home? NOPE. Do I love dogs? YEP. Then what's the problem? BUDGET. Every city/town/county has a fixed budget based on income taxes they can collect, which vary (especially when everyone is leaving). You simply CANNOT TAX THE EXISTING CITIZENS ENOUGH to patch the busted budgets due to CA's sanctuary state policy. But they're TRYING to. Highest state tax used to by 10% and THAT was high. But 13.3%? And as more people leave, they MUST either 1) enforce that border/end Sanctuary State -- OR -- 2) keep raising town, city and state taxes and fees. The more they raise taxes the more leave. Most people understand the limit on taxing people and realize "with all these people leaving, the suckers who stay behind will have taxes raised on them to keep budgets up, because they're not going to change the open borders situation." No city/town/county can create a reliable budget with an UNKNOWN NUMBER of new people arriving all the time. This budget issue is common sense. BUT NOT FOR CALIF. LEADERSHIP. Anyone who stays in CA - as many of us leave or have left already -- are sucker bait, because due to the open borders policy, every city/town/county MUST increase taxes continually for all the new arrivals, AND for all the people and businesses LEAVING. And I'm not telling anyone where I moved. It's a red state. WE DON'T NEED COMMUNISTS HERE. . . .

Hi. I too have grown up in Ventura County, California. Camarillo and Oxnard to be exact. Im thinking about moving to Texas myself, in a more rural area? 5 to 10 acres would be nice. I have done the math and my figures put me being able to live there for about a quarter of what im paying now? Yes 1/4 , now I'm not saying I could live like a King, but alot better for sure, My mortgage is $3100 a month, my utilities are $1800 or so, Car insurance and gasoline a month is about $1000, Food, entertainment and recreation is about $1500. When it's all said and done, I'm paying out about $8000 a month, most months, some months being even a bit more expensive, like in November and December and if I decide to take a little vacation to Vegas or Laughlin, Colorado river, fishing up in Mammoth lakes, or do a little snowskiing in our local mountains, it's going to blow that figure out of the water. So hell yes, im looking forward to moving to Texas, $3500 a month instead of $8000 or $9000 a month? Thats now a No-Brainer, I just wish I thought about moving 15 years ago or so, when I got out of the Military. To me another plus, is the people of Texas, Genuine, Patriotic, the minority seem to Love their Country and Love their State, they seem to Love our Constitution and all the Amendments and are proud to be Americans. Im all in!! Take care!! Hawk out!!

Great video. I'll add a couple of things if you don't mind. Today a 2700 sq ft home, 4 bed, 3 bath will run you $300-335K with pool. Property taxes will you run you about $7100 per year. No sales tax on food bought in a grocery store or fuel. There is some built in tax on fuel but no sales tax. Fuel currently is $2.39 gal for regular. What I like about Texas is I, read ME, control my tax rate not some political libtard who can't do simple math. The more I spend, the more I pay, and if I don't like my property tax rate I can protest, and have every year, and actually lowered my property tax. I live in one of the best school districts in NDFW so that's why the property taxes are higher. But you can get 6 acres out in the country for half that rate. AND MOST OF ALL, the government of Texas serves IT'S people and businesses, not politically correct ideology. Texas is very hard on people and ideas that go off the rails or who commit crime of any kind. If you wanna have more options and opportunities then you have ever had in your lifetime come here but don't be tryin' to change anything because you will get squashed like a bug. God bless Texas. (And I moved from Oregon.)

Thank you so much for the video. My husband and I live in Ventura, CA but are thinking of making a move to Texas for the reduced cost of living. Oh, and by the way to all the commentators, not all Californian's are liberal (I'm not). In fact, I think it is a strong possibility that a majority of people leaving California are tired of the California politics and admire the way Texas is handling it's economy. If liberals wanted to move to a more affordable state, I would think they'd go to Oregon, Washington or Colorado...

J Ds Exactly, it is very hypocritical and hyper judgmental to be calling ppl names but they want to come off as “better” than the CA liberals. It’s just phony. So far Texas has been good to me but politics brings out their mean side unfortunately but hey I’m chillin tho, no one can kill my vibe. I am the VIBE 😂. Hope all goes well with you.

I’ve lived in many places. Currently I’m in Texas (don’t worry I vote republican) but I think people in Texas are the least friendly. They drive like jerks too. I’d say of anywhere I’ve lived the most friendly is a tie between northern VA (DC metro area) and Nashville TN.

My job requires that a travel and stay in places for months on end. I have lived in Chicago, Seattle, and Denver, but I will not even for one second consider living in California, not even for a short two-month assignment. My company is too stingy on cost of living adjustments and they mostly want people in San Francisco where I would pay too much for an apartment and the privilege of having a homeless person piss on me.
@EdwardInTX
@EdwardInTX 6 лет назад
Unfortunately, yes that’s the case in CA. All too common to be splitting rent and spend $2000 for part of an apartment every month. Ouch.

Me and my family (mom, dad, sister) moved out here to Dallas-Ft Worth area in 2006 from Southern Cal. It was a hard adjustment leaving all that we knew behind. But, I’m grateful my parents brought us here because I’m flourishing the way God intended. It’ll be interesting to see how long the conservative stronghold will last.

I think he looks professional and groomed probably for his job. He travels for work so he probably has to dress a certain way. It's not good to put someone in a box in your mind before hearing what they have to say. I had one girl tell me I was obviously conservative based on what I was wearing. What was stupid was that I was at my chef job in my chef attire at the time, and she was only there for a few minutes. She had already put me in a box in her mind before even giving me a chance to be her friend!

@@arielryan6563 its the way he talks not just what he wears. When I determine a person by politics I listen more on how they see things. What a person wears or acts is sometimes does not equal to how they think. If a girl already assume what you are then good riddance. You dnt need a type of girl thats like that. But I would suggest for you to get a dog. Ladies like that.

Finally people understand why the south wanted separation from the north. Different ideas different culture. People should appreciate division and lines being drawn... America is a moral cesspool.

Bro it was all about dat $$. The south were making too much money off slavery and didn’t want to stop lol. I’m not defending Lincoln either. He didn’t really want to free the slaves but realized he needed to to keep the USA United
@ezrhino100
@ezrhino100 6 лет назад
lincoln was a communist among other things. he was a friend of marx and there is all kinds of books written about their relationship. the USA is a federation of states. the constitution was the first step in 'union' of all 50 states. the united states is nothing other than an american version of the EU. this is why illegal immigration will not stop under trump or any other regime. it is part of a long term constitutional plan. abortion, gay marriage and illegals are all now constitutional.

We will be leaving California soon but we will not be looking at Texas. I like the state. I like the wide open country but I seeing a trend of California progressives moving to Texas and bring their pious progressive attitude with them. I hear Austin is very progressive now. Already seen California turn into a cesspool. Hopefully Texas will not also but there are just too many progressives heading there for us.
