The Hisense Q9G/H9G has been a smash hit for the brand in 2020 thanks to its fantastic price to performance placement in the market. Today, I wanted to go over some of the advantages of using it as a replacement to a traditional computer monitor, and honestly... I'm never going back!
The Hisense Q9G/H9G comes in both 55" and 65", offers 1000nit+ of peak brightness, 4K resolution, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, 120Hz native refresh rate, 12-14ms response timings, a Quantum Dot panel, and much much more. All of these work in tandem to produce a fast and color-rich desktop experience. Sure, there may be other TVs on the market that will work better, but honestly, I don't think any are touching the price point Hisense is hitting for what you get.
Now sure, the Hisense Q9G/H9G will never be quite as color accurate as a traditional color-calibrated monitor, or as fast for a response time; however, for noncompetitive gaming and productivity work, it's a trade-off I am willing to make for the sheer functional size of this display. Furthermore, Quantum Dot panels DO NOT run the risk of burn-in like other display technologies, making it a great alternative to the more expensive OLED displays on the market.
Lastly, the 120Hz display is completely functional, with the trade-off being that you'll have to scale back to 1080p or 1440p. For me, I much rather the workspace size of 4K and 60Hz is plenty fast enough for casual work to be done. Just know that you can simply change this on the fly before a gaming session and take in all the tangible benefits of this 120Hz panel.

Just received the H9G yesterday and setup as my main TV. Super happy with the choice. Blacks are OLED level and colors pop off the screen in HDR or Dolby content. Thanks for all your videos and reviews. Likely going to grab a H8G as a PC monitor in a few weeks as the H9G may be too bright for me as a monitor.

I'm using a 60 inch Hisense TV as my PC monitor/TV. It's in my living room and I'm sitting about 2 and a half to three meters away on my sofa. It's the top of the range UK model. My home is very bright with large windows and the Hisense TV has many options that easily cope with the bright Sunlight. The refresh rate is 120 hz and the screen comes with a 10 year burn in guarantee. I used to be a hardcore Wow player and the TV is on 16-17 hours a day.

Text is tack sharp in 444/rgb in 4K/60. The blurring as was on the newer models running 4K/120hz. On M0422 firmware, there is a text clarity mode that allows 4K/120hz desktop utilization with full clarity. It mutes Color’s a touch, but it’s better then overly punchy colors and blurry impossible to read text.

Definitely not your wife!!! LOL Thanks for the awesome video. Looking to upgrade my system, from a 24" monitor that is alone side of my 27" LG gp850. Thinking of a tv instead like a 48" LG oled A2 or a Hisense 55" U7K which is 480 at best buy. The A2 is about 70 more.
@qwazyd0gg
@qwazyd0gg 9 месяцев назад
So I will say that OLED has made strides with image retention and mitigation; however, using an OLED (TV specifically vs OLED monitor) as a monitor has me slightly worried about persistent static content. Unlike a typical source device, a GPU typically doesn’t send a signal to the tv to sleep or standby like say a gaming console or AV device. With the U7K you have no retention worries.

@qwazyd0gg
@qwazyd0gg 3 года назад
Raw screen more than makes up for it. In 4K/60hz with 125% scaling, my 55” Hisense feels like 4 larger 16:9 monitors stacked 2 tall and 2 wide. This makes it even wider than the 1080p ultra wide was and ups the resolution for video editing in 4K. I will never go back to anything smaller.

BRO! You actually use this to color grade? this is the exact kind of info I've been looking for. First off, are you a colorist? I'm NOT really but I have to do it anyway of course since I shoot on a Sony mirrorless in SLOG2. So can you tell me a little bit like, what kind of footage are you grading, what software and what's the experience like on this tv for that? Thanks!
@qwazyd0gg
@qwazyd0gg 3 года назад
I'm coloring 4k footage from a Sony A6100. It's one of the only newer release cameras without LOG, so I'm not insanely flat; however, everything is dialed to almost the utmost negative value in camera for the best return on DR. I color in Premiere and rely on scopes a lot more now with this TV compared to when I used to eyeball it on my calibrated monitor. For me though my scene rarely changes other than lighting, so it's not an insanely tough process.

Confused about your 120hz claims. Confused in general about what these TVs are doing at 120hz. The Q90T from Samsung (much more expensive, but probably better on the whole for PC use at high refresh rates) is supposed to have 'true' 120hz, but if you ran the UFO test and it confirms it is at 120hz...my head is just spinning about it, honestly. RTings has said definitively that it does not have 120hz, and that Hisense confirmed this, and that there should be no increase in smoothness when using 120hz because of skipped frames. You're saying it is clearly smoother?
@qwazyd0gg
@qwazyd0gg 3 года назад
The Hisense has no true 120hz in 4K due to the lack of HDMI 2.1. 120hz in 2k or FHD is possible with frame skipping. Everything recognizes 120hz in these modes, including the UFO test; however, it is using BFI.

It’s actually running at 4K/60 in RGB Chroma 444 flawlessly on a GTX 1060 from 2016. Not hard to achieve providing you don’t intend to game at that resolution.

The R6 is a 60Hz 4K Roku based panel, which is also capable of 4K/60Hz for desktop use. It will not be as bright or vibrant; however, it’s input lag is not terrible for desktop use. Start with game mode and adjust your settings using the patterns built into your operating system for accurate desktop color in Game Mode.

Amazing. Snag it before they're either gone or go up in price. I'm seeing prices beginning to increase across a lot of TV manufacturers which makes me wonder if there are production issues or shortages coming 😟

It's the equivalent of $830 USD in Canada ($1097 CAD) for the 55". The 65" goes for $1750 CAD or $1325 USD equivalent but only $950 USD at bestbuy.com. Contrast that with the 55" TCL 635 for $899 CAD or $680 USD and sells for $650 USD at bestbuy.com. I don't mind paying a bit extra cuz smaller market, increased shipping costs, etc., but the Hisense Canadian market upcharge is just over the top! Really Hisense!!

Check Visions electronics and Amazon for better pricing.

I did, both Visions.ca and Amazon.ca want 1800 CAD for 65", 1100 CAD for 55". The 1750 price I mentioned for the 65" was from Costco.ca.

I mean, it's definitely higher msrp, but I priced out the difference of buying the canadian version or buy from the US and pay for conversion, duty, shipping or driving, etc. For me I would have almost broke even comparing the two results

Microphones are a killer for me. Why are we so 'OK' to have microphones in our houses now. Seems so stupid to me. Kinda disappointed that this review was just a talking head. Would have liked some actual use of the product etc or setup or something.
