Lasik was the best decision I ever made. Did it in 2016 and still see better than I ever could with glasses or contacts. Good luck and a speedy recovery Tim!
Truth , I can go days without one and have no withdrawal or side effects. Never smoked cigarettes but had a lot of friends try several times to quit and they had a hard time...✌️
@@363.2McMasters Answer this question then , how can I go for a week without a cigar and have no withdrawals? I believe everything in moderation is okay as long as you don't abuse it! Cigarettes are way more dangerous than cigars because they are loaded with chemicals , that's why so many people have a hard time quitting. I'm not saying cigars are healthy but again it's moderation , I've never smoked cigarettes. But I enjoy cigars occasionally...✌️
@@363.2McMasters Listen I tried to have an adult conversation with you but you have to make stupid comments. First off like I said I don't smoke cigars every day and never smoked cigarettes and secondly why what would I have to lie about? I also haven't smoked cigars all my life , I occasionally smoked them randomly in the 90's , I'm 56 and smoke them more frequently now but not every day or all day. Also why are you here? To preach to everyone , this is a cigar forum for people who enjoy them. We don't need to be lectured , we're adults. My grandfather smoked cigars every day and lived into his 90's , again I'll say it. Everything in moderation is okay!
@@363.2McMasters Obviously you have a problem if you've done all those things , I've never tried chewing tobacco or snuff so I don't know anything about that stuff. I'm really not worried about the affects of cigar smoking at my age because I don't abuse it!
Sad. I'm a long distance runner and I stopped smoking cigars regularly because of this, as well. At most I'll have one cigar every two weeks, but usually once a month. I could do once a week, but I'd rather not just for performance sake. But I love both! 😥
I stopped smoking Cigars it’s been months since I’ve had one. Why you may ask? Because I live in the North where it’s very cold out and it’s winter here now. I would rather not spend the extra money on equipment to keep me warm outside and the struggles of keeping a cigar lit in the cold. I’ve been waiting patiently for spring and the warmer weather to come. I would move south if I could but financially I cannot right now. I know your pain.
@@ryancentnarowicz Yeah, I'm guessing there aren't lounges near you (or they're not legal in your state)? For those who live in harsh winter season regions...it sucks. Not a fan of feeling uncomfortable in the cold & I'm not the biggest fan of 2nd hand smoke in a lounge. So...yeah...winters I barely smoke. But even in the spring/summer I'll prob only smoke 1 to 4 times a month. If I have a race I'm training for it'll prob be 1 a month (max). :/
@@nothingtoitbuttodoit Half and full marathon. But I'm not just looking to run casually...for me I'm trying to max out my performance. So unfortunately even more critical for me to avoid nicotine/smoke.
@@ajtam05 Lounges are legal they are just aren’t near me I live in the suburbs in Chicago. More closer to the border of Wisconsin. There are quite a bit of cigar lounges in the city of Chicago though.
I had PRK done almost 20 years ago, I was seeing 20/15 the day after the surgery. However, the recovery took almost 5-7 years, due to the length of time it took for the skin on my eyes to redevelop. Still the best decision I’ve ever made.
don't forget that coffee can do the same thing, the caffeine in it to be more specific. my friend did LASIK and the doctor said drinking coffee or smoking makes the healing process take longer
Hey hey had PRK about 5 years ago ( I’m 25 now) and they said it should be good for 2 years. Wasn’t smoking cigars back then so can’t chime in on that. But PRK is the one with the rough recovery. My eyes were burning so bad for a couple days after. Was stuck in bed. Then my vision was just blurry for a month or so then it was perfect 👏🏻
I had the inspire surgery 2 weeks ago today for severe obstructive sleep apnea. Stopped smoking a couple days before it and havent smoked a cigar since. Probably wont for at least a month. No alcohol either. Does make a huge difference. Focus on healing 100%.
bigtxbullion How long did you wait before you started smoking again , I had a C-3 & C-4 disc fusion 3 weeks ago and when I went for the follow up the other day my Dr said I shouldn't smoke for 6 months! I've got over 150 cigars and don't want to wait until January , I was thinking of waiting till my next follow up in 3 weeks. That will put me at 6 weeks after my surgery , I want to enjoy some cigars while it's summer and don't have to freeze in my garage....
Smoking impacts blood flow which is critical to recovery from injuries or surgery. However, after I had a stroke and recovered, my neurologist told me that smoking cigars in moderation (a few a week) probably had a relaxation benefit which outweighed any risk.
25 years ago, we found that cigarette smoking was a prominent risk factor for infection during the healing process following laser vision correction surgery. Several of my colleagues felt worth excluding these patients. I recall my only infection was performing surgery in a patient that was a very heavy smoker so I have followed this concern.
yoo i was actually in a medical study at the uofmn that was comparing wound healing times of cig smokers vs vapers vs control (no nicotine havers) and it was super interesting. i believe what they said was (anything in quotes is exact wording): so far they'd noticed that tobacco products seemed to cause a "significant" increase in the time it takes for your body to heal a wound, and that vapers experienced a "noticeable" increase. id been smoking cigs occasionally at that point and that was what made me fully giive them up.
the reason why tobacco in general doesn't allow your body to heal is due to the raising of the blood pressure will cause you to bleed and your wounds won't close/heal.
Well you maybe right , I'm not sure though because my blood pressure is and has consistently been around 120-130 over 75 for years now. I actually got it checked a few days ago and it was literally 125 over 70....
I'm just gonna put this out there. I love a good cigar to relax, but I also love them for two other reasons: 1) It helps me focus better, wakes me up and helps me be more productive with work or study 2) The nicotine helps to prevent migraines, look it up, it's amazing So cigars have some pretty powerful practical uses as well, in addition to the relaxation factor.
That's good to hear, while cigars give you more nicotine generally them cigarettes they have less chemicals than cigarettes and most users use them less than cigarettes. If you use a cigar daily though you would roughly be equal to a person smoking a pack of cigarettes a day. That being said many people generally report it's easier to quit cigars than cigarettes generally.
I say keep smoking the cigars. I know I need my cigars everyday. Especially with a procedure that leaves you laying up for a while. What's better then cigars to pass the time
What is the time period that cigars do this? I only smoke, at the most 2 cigars a week. Also, I have a diabetic friend I often smoke with, what affect does it have on his diabetes? He, like me, only smokes 1 to 2 a week. Which reminds me, another friend has a small brain aneurysm, how does that affect him as well? Again, he only smokes at most 2 per week. We're Marines who served together and love a good cigar.
The evidence is not 100% on this topic, but there does seem to be a solid amount of data showing an extended healing time for wounds particularly and probably for illnesses. It's obviously much more significant with someone smoking many cigarettes a day, vaping all day, using smokeless tobacco all day, or smoking cigars in higher volumes throughout the day, chewing nicotine gum or using nicotine lozenges or patches throughout the day, etc. But the impact does seem to be measurable even with only 1 cigarette's worth of nicotine per day. Some will be worse than others and how much is used will play a significant role but even just 1 cigar a day can possibly slow wound healing time even if it's barely noticeable. It's probably not absolutely necessary to quit while healing, especially from something like a surgery, but it's definitely the smart move.
I quit cigars for a week just because I broke my teeth and got crown temps. Wasn't even necessary just felt like it. But I have extended a cold by about a week smoking yard gars.
I had major surgery yesterday and had two premium cigars the day before...welp I wish I watched this but can't go wrong with A. Fuenta Rosado Gran Reserva and La Aroma De Cuba.
The exception to this rule is that if someone hurts your feelings, you can remove yourself from the situation and go smoke a premium cigar, and your wound will heal 25% faster. Facts 😁
Not buying that because stress is far more harmful than the cigar that I smoke that relieves the stress which is proved to me by the fact that my blood pressure is ALWAYS lowest when I’m smoking a cigar.
I've noticed that the more higher end premium cigar I smoke the more of a headache I get as well as the feel of being off the next couple of days 😩 Why is that??
@@jaystevens137 Cao Brazillia was the cigar in question. I did a quick look & all I saw was that it's all Nicaraguan filler. But I will look further into the matter. Thank you for the info! It has been 5yrs since I had it but never thought about that. I may have to try another one day b/c other factors could have added to my sickly feeling
How often do u smoke? If ur ‘new’ which i doubt, id say start with smaller ones and get used to the nicotine in it. I used to get sick and still do if i smoke to many after eachother
Are you telling me I have to go 8 weeks with no cigars for my shoulder surgery recovery 😭 I been smoking daily bcuz I'm so bored at home and I usally don't do it that often 😪
A friend had to postpone knee replacement, do to his nicotine level being to high. But in all fairness he was smoking up to 8 double ligero diggers every day, and dipped.
Well I am glad you can admit there are risk with smoking cigars because all the other RU-vid cigar aficionados say cigars don't have an impact on your health...
Everyone knows that's BS , but being adults it's our decision. I enjoy them but don't smoke several times a day , my grandfather smoked them all the time and lived into his 90's while my other grandfather drank whiskey in his coffee every day and lived till his 90's also. Of course there's risks but everything is okay in moderation...
I dont understand. You giving up cigars for some time, until you recover and then go normal or you giving up totally and never come back to enjoy the stick??
