madmoiselle H people just need to look after their macros. Salt specifically is not _necessary_ . Additional iodized salts aren’t the only way to get sodium or iodine or to maintain hydration but they’re the most convenient. You don’t _need_ added salt to get those things but it’s good to listen to your body. If you feel bad and think it’s coming from your diet, change something.

The issue is that back in the day when you didn't consume any salt, you were advising people not to do so either. I remember in your website you would justify it by saying that people can die from consuming salt-water and therefore salt is to be avoided (which is a silly argument to put it mildly; one can also die from consuming too much regular water, does this mean we shouldn't be drinking water at all? It's the dose that makes the poison and the medicine). Back then you didn't specify that people who are doing such-and-such activities would benefit from consuming salt, no: you were adamant about not consuming salt, period. No grey area, just black and white. And I don't know about now, but back then your website's FAQ section wasn't about your experience eating the way you do, it was about giving health and diet advice to other people, advice which in hindsight turned out to be unfounded and extremely irresponsible.

People can only blame themselves for listening to and trusting someone who has no degree nor history of study in medicine nor human anatomy and physiology. I blamed myself after I listened to ridiculous vegans, and tried their IDEOLOGICAL ramblings. I ended up in the hospital. As a member of indigenous tribes, I should have trusted the tried and true ancestral, seasonal diet of my own people. But nooohooo. I had to be an ass and followed other assess. Well, I have returned to eating meat like my ancestors before me, and I haven't been anywhere near a hospital since. Thank my common sense I didn't eleminate salt mineral from my diet because that probably would have been the end.

She is simply sharing with great success what has worked for her for a decade or so and is giving a coherent and legitimate reason why she started pink salt or Celtic salt minimally. I guess it depends on what you mean by salt. If you mean sodium chloride I don't think we need that. If you mean sodium then that is definitely necessarily but a very efficient body which very few people have can get enough from just fruits and vegetables. Though there is an argument that in nature we'd getting some salt/sodium in is by swimming in the ocean but I'm not sure if that's necessary. There are a bunch of long term raw vegans/fruitarians that are thriving and don't consume salt like Loren Lockman, Doug Graham, Robert Lockhart, Anne Osborne, Cappi and more. And not only are they doing great but one thing certain is they don't suffer from hyponatremia and have been doing this for decades so that says a lot.
@Cat-es9rq
@Cat-es9rq 6 лет назад
sowhat I know that there are lot of people doing good in Vegan diet. But what I mentioned here is a possibility of Sodium chloride deficiency, which is common in people consuming sodium restricted diet (eg: hypertension). I am not well knowledgeable about vegan diet providing enough Sodium. Well, yeah it must be..otherwise all those raw vegan people could have been experienced some sodium related issues. The key is to educate ourselves before restricting or incorporating something. I am also more of vegetarian diet. But I do consume salt ( minimal ) but never less than recommended dietary intake. But yes, fruit and veggie diet is the best.

be careful, those people on youtube talking about veganism, raw plant base diet seem to know a lot about nutrition, but never seen scientific studies on their channel. There is a huge difference between what a plant is supposed to provide (on the paper) in terms of vitamins, nutrients and their bioavailability in a human body, besides all the antinutrients you can find in plants... You should have a deeper look into all of it, your health is at stake...

So I'm thinking the salt could stimulate your adrenals to perk up...salt is a stimulant on your adrenals...so yes, it will make us feel better and energized but it still is a stimulant.

Hi Kristina, my brother stationed at Cyprus for 2 yrs or so so naturally the family would go out to visit him. He too was a marathon runner, and was provided with salt tablets to take every day. When we went over, the medic would insist we take them also (not that we were sporting people but because we were used to a much colder climate therefore our bodies were working harder, therefore depleting these minerals that needed topping up each day. Now I live in Australia and even when it is 40°c and hotter, we still have to continue working, cooking, etc. Not every job or house has efficient power as often it is common that our power will fail through insufficient power in the power banks with our power companies and so Aussies are encouraged to drink 1 sport drink a day. I don't like these (their full of sugar) so I have always taken salt as I did in Cyprus. I have used this method for 30 yrs, it's good for me.

There are very few differences between sea salt and table salt. The way sea salt is produced allows it to maintain trace minerals but there is no extra health benefits that come from sea salt or Himalayan salt(table salt is more processed though if that's a factor you care about) in fact most table salts actually contain more iodine that Himalayan or sea salts so if your looking for that eat table salt.

I am especially impressed by your willingness (after 8 years of believing that salt is bad) to be so HONEST and put it on the table for others to benefit from your experience. Thanks for sharing. I went WFPB in January and I make sure to stay current with my physician visits. My doctor ran through some important nutrition needs and the first was iodine. I think it is very important to couple a special diet with a good physician or nutritionist that you trust. Iodine is an element that is needed for the production of thyroid hormone. The body does not make iodine, so it is an essential part of your diet. This is why I added a little salt back into my diet. Just my experience as well.

Hi Kristina can you make a video on how to stay motivated on a vegan diet? And when you are feeling Like it's not really the right choice..

I always love watching your videos. I add salt on my heavy training days as well. I was getting "charlie horses" in my legs at night that were waking me up out of a dead sleep. I don't train every day like you, but I do add it on the days I do.(4-5 days a week)

Which brand are you consuming if you don't mind sharing? Started looking into salt and got scared a little as some apparently have more pollutants than others. Thx for always being inspiring!

Sodium is one of the main essential electrolytes in the body. It does many things, one of the most important being fluid regulation which controls blood pressure. You would die without sodium. It's called hyponatremia. A healthy body regulates the amount of sodium by cy controlling how much is excreted through the kidneys.

Interesting, that it worked somehow for you. Because human body simply do not know how to process salt, no matter wich type. Salt in water is main cause of kidney stones, but some modern doctors "treat" it with mineral water... It is like a rock or sand for the body. For the mind, it is a stimulant, same as drugs, alcohol, sugar, as everything seems "tastier" with it and one of the causes of over eating and binge eating. Humans are heterotrophs and can not process inorganic substances. And salt no matter which one is inorganic. But again, to each its own. I discovered recently there are raw not vegan people, who eat raw liver and add eggs to orange juice, same people also give paid health advices... So, people, feel your bodies and do your research.

I don't like adding salt to my diet, but I did by pink Himalayan salt. I read it's good to use for brushing teeth along with other ingredients! Keep up the good work 👋

Great video, great topic. It is one of the only things I disagreed with about the 80/10/10 diet. I really "believe" in salt. Of course in "pinch amounts" and good quality. Thanks for this update! The years you have on the raw vegan lifestyle and still looking good and healthy now speak volumes and put you up there with such as John Kohler. The raw vegans who don't consume any salt tend to start looking dehydrated and/or depleted, which is why I disagreed with the "no salt" guideline. Much love to you!!! ❤❤

What's the problem a little pink Himalayan salt or Celtic Sea salt I've never heard of any issues with it. I've been vegan / raw vegan cuz I was 17 and I've always just had a pinch of here and there I never cut it all the way out so I'm just curious was there a problem with it? Or was it a personal choice to cut it out because your raw vegan? I'm simply asking out of pure curiosity, I know some things are people personal preference ,I know some people kind of jump on the bandwagon and getting erroneous information about certain lifestyle so I'm just curious. I'm a writer , holistic health practitioner , herbalist and certified aromatherapist. I get get curious when I hear things like this.

Sydni Milan I think it’s a lack of knowledge about salt. Natural salts are good like himi salt and Celtic salt. and processed ones like table salt, cooking salt, iodine salt not good.

Thora F It doesn't. She is quite misguided in a few things from what I've gathered very recently.

Anikoxx Iodized table salt is Iodized for it's health *benefits*. Seems like there really is a lack of knowledge about salt.

Hi Kristina! I’ve been watching your videos off & on for 6+ years. You look great, glad to hear you still tweak as needed. I wanted to suggest checking into the benefits & possibly trying out Sole Water (pronouced So-lay). You get more minerals & less sodium from the salt when consumed this way.

Why do you feel it took you so long to come out and say that you were eating salt? Did you feel there was a contradiction since previously you have stated salt was bad? I've always thought salt was was great the body needs it for absorption... And balance of electrolytes .

Too Long can’t be bothered to watch version: Basically she started eating salt cause she felt better since she’s now doing intensive hot yoga sessions and it helps her with replenishing her sodium levels.

Totally agree, I find the same, by adding a pinch of Celtic or Himalayan salt ( not the table salt crap) to my food I feel heaps better. Water + fresh lemon and a pinch of salt is nature’s sports drink! 👍

How can you be sure that the Himalayan salt does not contain traces of heavy metals? I have heard it’s possible for this.

This was my main concern while transitioning. Coming from an highly athletic background after one intense workout i would cramp following a fruitarian diet. And this was only 1 week into eating only fruits. I was cramping all day 24/7 until I had a Gatorade or some fries with sea salt added and it would go away. But everyone’s body is different. 🙏👽🖤🔊

did you ever get runner's diarrhea? or like, gone for one of your long runs and started to do hot yoga and then crapped your yoga pants?

Pretty sure there is no iodine in mineral salts, that's why table salt is "iodized"? Iodine is an important thing to have and that's why a little bit of table salt is beneficial to everyone. Moderation in everything, people.

I think by experience by being really ill, that salt reduces inflammation, it actually works as stimulative medicine, with wrong circumstances and wrong amounts it might go against health.

Agree with sea salt principle in general, and there a new micro plastics contamination issue depending on region sea/ocean water quality.

Hymalaian salt or sea salt - good. Low potassium in the diet = high blood pressure, heart arythmia, tired, muscle pain. Thats why we need avocados for potassium.
