Why I Started Posting About My Disability

In today’s video, I discuss why I started posting online about my disability.
I talk about what led me to this MAJOR decision, my journey of accepting and embracing my disability, what made me want to post a video of myself walking online for the first time, the fears and insecurities I had, and much more.
This one is a little vulnerable and my longest video to-date, the next ones will be more entertaining! BUT I thought this was an important element to share to give background about my online presence, what led me here today and why I keep sharing,
I also hope this is helpful for anyone struggling to accept their disability, because I wasn’t always accepting of mine. You’re not alone!

Eh,why ya gotta be down? It's literally the last thing that defines you. If your just a terrible person or make bad choices Than that's more to be down on. Being so called normal, really isn't that much less of a burden since we all have our issues. ya just gotta enjoy what ya have and what you are, work hard for whatever else your trying to do and get to where your going.and sit back and enjoy the ride. We are who we are.no.need to be ashamed or down or anything negative about it. Your options in life and way you behave and actions you take in this world are much more of a priority than a "dis" ability,or lack of ability, since all ppl lack abilities, like common sense 🤣 or using their brain,or being kind,or having lack of other things like humility and empathy. Don't be down, turn that frown upside down 😂 life is honestly a joke,so you gotta have fun

Hi Chelsea. I’m a male with cerebral palsy as well. The way you walk is very similar to the way I used to before I had surgery because my foot was turning increasingly inward. The surgery straightened out the foot and I don’t walk quite that way anymore. My gait is still different though, even after the surgery. It’s nice to see you’re sharing your experiences of life with your unique brand of CP. Keep up the good work :)!

“I didn’t feel like I walk the way I walk”: I think that’s the thing that able bodied people don’t tend to understand. In my mind, I feel like I walk perfectly straight and upright, it’s not until I catch my reflection that I notice. I used to hate it, but years of experience and a boost of self confidence made me not care anymore. I’m proud of my body and all it does for me 😊 if people are going to stare, might as well give them something to stare at!

People notice I trip or fall more, but thats ok. Just keep telling everyone about your disability. Kids are the most accepting to talk to me about it as they don't fear to offend and if you talk to them in terms they understand. Keep posting!

Your very fortunate to be able to walk. My bother in law has CP and has always been wheelchair bound. I remember one time complaining (I was around 10 at the time) my feet were sore from walking all day. My mom (God rest her soul, miss her everyday) told me my brother in law would live to say that. It really put alot of things in perspective for me. I thank the good Lord every night and I appreciate my life and the abilities to do what I do. I think it is important to have people, like you, willing to show how they walk and not be afraid of it. Even though I can be self conscious when I see myself walk too. I know many people with CP that could walk but gave up because they thought they looked better sitting in a w/c. It's important for for people to know not to give up and they are normal. Thanks for showing that.

I want to thank you for posting. I am an older woman, but also have spastic diplegia cerebral palsy. Since August, I have undergone two different procedures to try to improve incontinence that occurs as a result of my CP. I even tried one of the procedures a second time. Neither procedure has helped. My frustration has led me to seek further information on cerebral palsy in adulthood. I've found few resources, and am beginning to hear the same refrain again and again, "There's just not a lot out there...." Tonight, I discovered your channel. It lifted my spirit to find someone whose story I could relate to. You've made a difference in my life already, and I thought you should know. Keep posting!

I just happened across one of the "shorts" that you posted. As you said, the way you walk caught my eye. I was curious as to what it was about, so I watched it. Then another, then another. I don't have a disability per se, but I think that most people are dealing with personal issues, physical or mental, that make them feel self-conscious. I've dealt with an issue for most of my life and have for the most part overcome my own negative feelings about myself. Accepting yourself is an important first step, and I was interested in seeing how you handled your issues. We can all learn from one another, and I feel that just the few clips I've watched have given me a deeper understanding of what many of us deal with. Watching your confidence on video, your openness in speaking, and your comfort level with yourself has helped and inspired me more than you will ever know. You have shown me that we all have the power to control our lives and how others see us. I've come to believe the world sees us as a reflection of how we see ourselves. You've reinforced that opinion and have given me confidence in myself and the part I play in my own destiny. I'm anxiously looking forward to your upcoming videos. Thank you so much for sharing!

As I am learning about my different comorbidities in cp and small fiber neuropathy its nice to share with people who understand. Like you I didnt share how cp affects me with my family or friends. My mom wouldnt really listen so why would anyone else. But i find it easier to open up to other people.

I am so excited to come across your channel. I’m 62 , living in louisville and have Cerebral Palsy which has physically affected my right side. I love the content I’ve seen so far and think you will absolutely be a wonderful educator and role model for women and us disabled . When I first saw you you short and realized you were in Tampa , I could only hope and pray that you were safe after hurricane Ian went through.nive seen content that was made afterwards and you seem fine. I think one video you eventually could try is your reflections on when the hurricane went through and also any info on how the state helped disabled persons recover afterwards. It’s sort of “meatier” content , but might be a good video. Looking forward to seeing more from you, sincerely Rick

Chelsea you are a true inspiration to us all, please keep up the excellent work you do on RU-vid. I am always inspired by your videos. Your energy and glowing personality and positive approach to life is an inspiration, something we all can learn from. I am a senior with twin daughters (now they are 42) with ADHD. They open my heart to the world of disabilities and you have open my heart even more. As I age with my many life experiences (HS Athlete, NCAA athlete, career military officer, scientist, engineer, father and grandfather) I have learned how precious all life is, I catch flies in the house and let them loose outside, crazy. We weren't taught how to interact with the disability because we didn't see you in school or in my work force. I still feel a bit uneasy approaching the disability but I give them a smile and a greeting for the day. I'm still learning. I don't mean to stare but my engineering mind kicks in and I try and see how your mechanical structure works, it's an automatic behavior with my geekie engineering mind. We as the human race, need more of YOU in this world to show us the value of life and how the disability add to the quality of our lives. Simple tasks in life that most of us take for granted, is concentrated work for you that most off us can't imagine. Thank you very much for each and every RU-vid video. You are a very attractive young lady and I know you have the energy to achieve whatever you want to do in life so as we said in the military, GO FOR IT and never punt on 4th down and long.

Chelsea I saw a video of yours on RU-vid, and the volume wasn't up all I could see was a brilliant smile, you are a beautiful young lady and now I am here watching this video listening to you to find an addictively great personality I hope this all sounds right but please please don't be hard one yourself, you are you a wonderful unique person there are so many things that you choose not to use such as a walker or wheelchair.... you're a fighter you don't want to resort to these ideals, this may not make a difference with you but it did for me my father lost his right arm in a car wreck when he was 17 years old so he had a few years to reboot his life before I was born in 1953 all throughout my life growing up I never saw the things other people saw in his to them oddity with one arm he passed on his 90th birthday and it took a few years after that to figure out that I never ever though about the fact that he is and was his whole life handicapped which just blew me away because nothing stopped him he did everything from tying his shoes with one hand to yard work to electrical, woodworking and even rebuilding a car engine completely, he coached my little league baseball team and played catch with a glove while throwing barehanded, just believe in yourself and turn heads with your greatness, you are you and the world is going to love you for that, those who have the issues are the ones who are missing out, be special stay special because you are!

💪 You're super dope Chelsea! To be transparent, I don't know anyone with a physical disability in real life. So, for me, it's a lack of knowledge about disabilities & not understanding the extent to which someone may be disabled off first glance. I promise I, & I hope I can speak for a good % of people, mean no harm by glancing, it's more just trying to comprehend what's happening in the moment. I'm really glad I came across your story so I can become more educated. Thank you for sharing & being so open minded & dope about it. Keep it up 🔥🔥🔥

Thank you for being your authentic self. It is refreshing to see you are not downing yourself to accomodate the shitheads of this world. I am sure you will not be single for very long. Your inner beauty matches your outer beauty. Much love!

Well I'm glad your telling people Your story! That's why I always loved youtube because this is what it's for, expressing yourself and meeting other people.. disabled folk have always been an inspiration for me.. they are usually so much stronger and more beautiful than normies... I'm not disabled but I have some pretty severe nerve issues.. I beat cancer about 16 years ago.. so I know pain and suffering as well... Anyway keep doing what your doing and never give up!!! Hi my names Andrew Nagatori I discovered your videos not to long ago and you’ve been a huge inspiration in my life!! I also Have CP and just like you have been going through life with the best attitude I can have with a smile on my face although some days it gets very difficult for me, I’m a Bass Player and Heavy equipment operator, as well as own my very own Audio and Live Sound Business. But as mentioned before it gets very difficult some days from the judgement and looks I get from people all the time and I love the fact that you walk around with your head held hight with a smile on your face and show that you don’t let any of the judgement or haters get to you and I can’t thank you enough for giving me the inspiration to keep going and never giving up no matter how hard it gets!! I was wondering if I could get some of your backstory and was wondering if you can give me some Advice for the days where everything seems to much because everyone sees my CP and not me.. I would love to hear back from you and would love to hear your story and Advice Thank you very much!! Andrew Nagatori.

Damn. I understand the struggle and growing up and ppl saying things or pointing at things. But your luckier than most, you got a smile and honestly, your hot. That makes you unique. Your body is your body and by you making vids, hopefully your providing therapy and overcoming things yourself. There's no reason you shouldn't be 1000000% comfortable with who and what you are. You seem nice and humble, and those things are way more Important than being bitter or mean or delusional or closing yourself off to the world.so keep on trucking. I have a feeling you'll be remembered or break some kind of record or stereotype that puts you on the map. Your a straight gangster and ppl are Gunna move out the way and roll out the red carpet for ya 🤣 just don't let it get to your head tho! It's easy for that happen, nobodies exempt. Keep sharing your shit and living with that wonderful outlook and smile!

I think you're absolutely beautiful. Yes you do walk funny. But I think everybody is damaged and broken in some shape or form. But living with it and enjoying life to the fullest. I've been able to laugh. And the satisfaction from helping others. It's what it's all about. Living a good life. Thank you so much for sharing with us. PS have you ever tried sailing . If you haven't please do. The wind is free!
