I remember making my graduation dress in Home Ec. and being so glad because three girls turned up in the same dress as each other! It’s so nice being able to make garments for oneself.

I made my own clothes because I couldn’t find clothes that fitted me properly. As a larger person, the armholes would be far too big. The crotch of trousers would be round my knees, the fabric used in shops was not very nice and pattern matching was zero. The fit issues were caused by the pattern being scaled up, and the fabric was not nice in the clothes I could afford. So I sewed my own. I love tweaking patterns, lengthening and shortening legs, making the bust fit properly, getting rid of gaping around armholes etc. I’m now a in a much smaller dress size but I still sew my own. Btw, Stylearc patterns are gorgeous, but better for somebody with a bit of experience. The instructions are minimal.

I love this! Thanks so much for your comment 😍 I am definitely addicted to the precision you can get from sewing and tweaking your own creations to fit yourself perfectly! Also that’s a good point about Style Arc! Thanks for mentioning 😊

You lost me at the point where you expected me to own a printer and be able to buy printer paper instead of simply buying a preprinted pattern. You have a much larger income then I do.

Many of these patterns also come with an option where you can buy a printed version and have it shipped to you. Otherwise your local office supply shop will most likely have an affordable printing service 😊

@@studiobilby Office supply would be $15 a pattern... and it is 20 miles away. I'm better off taking the bus for $1.25 and picking up one of the $2 patterns at Joanns fabrics; that is if Ineed to get a new one since I have so many bought at thirfit store for 25 cent patterns here now to use or adapt at need..

I go to my local library to print patterns. It’s still 10c a page, but I just prioritise which patterns I really want to make. Usually, I design my own patterns straight on paper, so I’m just paying for the roll of paper and the associated postage.
