If slimmer faces are more attractive, then what are we doing filling faces with dermal filler? Dr. Gavin Chan explains. Dr. Gavin Chan MBBS, General Registration (MED0001175745)
When a professional is giving you their opinion which results in less money for them, trust them... just trust them. You can be sure their opinion is honest and not skewed by greed.
well its not about opinion its about taste and what you find attractive. I completely agree and would never do anything to my face even though i dont like everything about it. But there are women who just think they look more attractive and in reality they look ridiculous. But its all about perception. 😂😂😂
Wow finally a person who understands that attractiveness and youth are not the same thing. In fact many of the features ppl find attractive are MATURE facial features.
Anne Wilkinson Well thank God I’m blessed and so are certain others. I agree as well, many “young” people look older than they should. It’s actually terrifying to see 🥴
@@privatelifejust_4me When I was around 17-20 I always got told I should model cause I was naturally super thin but model agencies turned me down saying my facial features were too soft and "Not stong enough" to model. Which is weird since I think Gigi Hagid definitely has "softer" looks than me. I
Anne Wilkinson Oh I wouldn’t be surprised. Just like any job they pick and choose even when two people can have the same credentials, features, body type etc. Hopefully all worked out in your favor and overall for your life. I’ve learned that when you think something is definitely what you need or want it’s actually better when things don’t go as planned. 🌈
I like both (naturally) round "baby" faced AND defined/mature faces. I know change is hard for a lot of people (myself included) but we really need to start embracing the fact that we're going to change appearance as we move through 80-100 years.
I'm glad the doctor I went to was like ''sorry I don't inject people who are already beautiful" or something to that effect. Measured my face, told me it's perfect and I'd be better off with some counseling. Gotta say I walked out of there feeling amazing even though he said I need a shrink 🤣❤️👍
Victorian Cosmetic Institute and I really think more people are talking about how fillers can look so unnatural. It’s only a matter of time that professionals follow suit. There will always be a select group that want that look, but the majority do not. I’m baffled by some celebrities that go over board. Can you talk more about helping with the beginning stages of sagging skin and what can be done? Thank you for being so down to earth, honest, and respectable in your advice. Do you ever do any virtual consultations since I live so far away?
I'd also add to say that there's nothing wrong with having a rounder face. I have a round face. So does my mum. We just don't have prominent cheekbones and that's fine. It doesn't need fixing.
I didn't realize getting braces would change my face so much. My face is rounder with a natural deep overbite. Braces gave me a defined jawline and a natural cheek contour. It was definitely a delightful bonus to my bite finally fitting.
I’m so happy for you!!! And so grateful that you can recognize your own natural self as beautiful simply for getting dental/orthodontic care rather than doing something artificial. I struggle with my body, I’m about to be 25 but I’m still shaped like a stick bug. Can’t gain weight or curves and in this culture I’m sure it’s easy to tell why that makes me insecure. I saved up money for a BBL for 8 months but chickened out of my consult because I had this voice in the back of my head saying I would feel worse or just as bad if I did something fake instead of trying to eat and work out to achieve the look I want. But also I shouldn’t care so much about it. Anyways!!! I’m happy for you 💕💕💕
@@kwizatzhannahrach your face looks feminine so you likely have the hormones/genetics for a curvy figure. If you're shaped like a stick, It's likely due to a lack of muscle/body fat not genetics. I'd recommend you focus on gaining lower body muscle mass, through exercises like weighted squats, and see if that makes a difference before you try surgery.
im not gonna spend 4000$ minimum for brace...Just to make my lips look bigger when i can contour them. People that can afford braces are very privilege .i will never have them I'm on welfare taking care of my disable child .
@@funnygaming2672 Teeth alignment is so much more important than just looking nice. I know braces are expensive, but it definitely is NOT just for aesthetics.
Ive had a round face my whole life and I hate it lol I dont understand why people want to puff up their faces more when I want a thinner face. No matter how much weight I lost my face will still be round
Tahtahme's Diary exactly, Ive been wanting to fill up my tear through for years and years, gone to my dr who’s also perform plastic surgery and she told me she wants to put 2ml under each one of my eyes, I swear I was about to do it but now after this video I might just go with 1ml each
ye23 when your older it will slim down I promise, I used to stay slim because of it, now I can eat anything and it stays slim but my body is bouncy again🤷🏻♀️
Yeah, but you can see the emotions on a 20 or 25 year old person smiling etc without eyes wrinkles or lines n her foreheads eyes or cheeks. That's what people want to attain
Most honest Doc EVER! Typically the technician oversells and has us believing more is better. Love this guy and need more like him - especially with these young girls who think they are imperfect unless their lips are as big as beach balls.
I have a chubby round face. I hate it, but being 43 and told I look 33 constantly almost makes that roundness worth it. My friends from college who are thin and have a lot of angles on their face look much older than me. I wish society would stop thinking people with rounder faces are ugly cuz we are not!!
YES, that is me and family- super thin face/jaw. We look like absolute sh!t aging even with the best of care and health. Always envious of the wider rounder face; looks more wholesome and friendly. Villains always portrayed with thin faces
You can see her face has widened up around her eyes at the sides. Alcohol doesn't do that, or weight gain - cheek filler does! And tonnes of it, she's also got way too much under her eyes.
Kevin Espiricueta It’s a mixture of alcohol and weight gain that makes it more _noticeable_ lol. She’s not lying about the that. She said she’s had fillers I’m p sure. All you have to do is look at her through the years. I’ve followed her for a very long time and her face has changed, and not because of age or just weight gain lmao.
I feel like a lot of people in their twenties forget that our faces aren't "finished" yet. Most of us are probably gonna look drastically different when we hit our thirties, and like Dr. Chan says, gain some contour naturally. My mom for example had a very plump face all throughout her twenties, but now in her fifties she has the most insanely sharp cheekbones, and looks amazing! I guess what I'm trying to say is to be patient with your looks? Idk
Yes! My sister turned 39 this year and throughout her twenties she always had a chubby face. She lost a bit of weight a few years ago and her face matured insanely. She has killer cheekbones and a very nice definition.
This is SO true! I have never understood why so many celebrities use fillers. I think its very unflattering. It just makes them look puffy and makes their eyes look small.
how old are you? i'm just wondering for myself. and did you lose it quickly or in a span of a year? and did you get more lines on face? i need to lose 15kg but im scared
@@hirrorstories just lose the weight. As long as you're doing a mix of cardio and resistance training, or even Pilates and yoga, your face will be fine.
I thought I was the only one who feels like they look more attractive the more they age. We have such a problem with thinking that beauty is reserved only for people ages 13 - 25. I just turned 30 a few months ago and I look good af. Sorry to disappoint.
Wow! Watching your content has helped educate me and confirm some of my suspicions. I've always felt that a little would go a long way, but most people I know who have filler are going back constantly to have more. Thank you for sharing your work with the world.
Bravo 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Finally somebody is so honest to tell this! Your videos are so important for everyone who wants to do fillers ! Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪🙌🏽 We love your videos !
AH I so appreciate you. I get so many people, injectors recommending getting jawline filler, cheek filler to help balance my face but all I can picture is it spreading and flattening and making my face look more round and less defined. I wanna send this video to half the injectors in my area. Thank you for such a intelligent video.
I went to go get fillers in a moment of weakness, the doctor told me "no" until I adopted better skin care based on my lifestyle. I'm grateful for that
@@Cinnabar_and_Chalcanthite a good dermatologist will ask you about your skincare regime. Mine asked me if I was doing skin treatments, such as microdermabrasion, peels, fraxel laser etc... as someone in late 20s / early 30s, investing in propper skin treatments that treat the skin is a good way to improve skin quality, something fillers and botox don't do.
Same thing happened with me. Went for teeth whitening, and the doctor said NO, your teeth are white already, no need for that. Except you need teeth cleaning which i will recommend only after six months. Thanks to that Doctor
I am genuinely not very interested in this topic, BUT this video was so good! You were honest about attractiveness, without being hurtful. This is something many people are not good at. Also I love your message about "less is more"!
You hit the nail on the head. So many practicioners will NOT tell their patients this, but take their $$$, and the results are not great. Your honesty is refreshing !!!!!
Obviously she has gone true serious health issues do to alcohol and bad eating habits, but even before she gained the wait you could thell fillers where destroying her face, with that said I truly hope she gets better.
If I remember correctly after the whole lipstick disaster, she developed a drinking habit and this can bloat you like crazy as you can imagine + actual fillers
Finally a knowledgeable professional who can clearly articulate how to use fillers to enhance and not change o deformed the face. Yes! This is the sort of care and consideration you want in an injector. It’s critical to have someone who has your best interest in mind and doesn’t just do what you say, because as patients, we don’t always know what will give us the best results. ✨✨👏❤️
Aly Art made an interesting observation: that when the human body has infection, it becomes inflamed and puffy in the affected area. So even when someone has fairly subtle fillers, we still get that "uncanny valley" feeling, because we, on an almost subliminal level, will recognise the puffiness as sickness.
Probably first person who I subsicribed first time for myself who is so trualy so realistic , I was thinking for some fillers in my lips or behinde the eyes witch I haven't done before but this man opened my eyes and maked me be more sure that true beauty its irreplaceble. Stay Nature! 🌱🌻
I got that tear through (5:40) years ago and I'm really happy about it 🙂 It's the only thing I've done, but it taught me two things 1) they said that fillers would only last a few months, it has lasted years 2) it gave me small wrinkles underneath the eye (crows feet)
It's kind of an art form. I really don't have the money to get surgery but I like to see what goes into it. I'm definitely getting my facelift someday though!
We need to stop contributing to a society that idealizes what “attractive” form looks like. Celebrities weight increase/decrease makes headlines, it’s gotta stop.
I’m glad you mentioned “transitions“ of the face. I lost a lot of weight very quickly during and after quarantine. I’ve always had big protruding eyes, and the loss of fat has my eyes casting crazy tear trough shadows that make me look tired and 10+ years older. After a lot of research, I believe I’m dealing with a mid face deficiency that I would love to have corrected with light cheek fillers. Thanks for all of your videos.
@s m yeah I’m pissed about it. Tretinoin helped tighten up the skin but the line is still there. I’m hoping to get fillers when I reach my goal weight. Did you do anything about the lines or did you just let them be?
Bless this man - He's good enough to tell us. In years to come, this can cause problems with the nerves in the face, paralysis of one side or one part of the face, and other horrible things. WHY risk it. If we're not gorgeous - So what?? MOST of the world isn't - Build up your personality, not your FACE - Be comfortable in the skin you're in - It was meant for Yoooo!! How many people do we know who have a pretty/handsome face but are such a put off - Personality comes through!! Kind, caring, funny, good natured all these make up for good looks, any day!! Also, when we're young we don't realize how good looking we are. Save a picture you don't like and look at it when you age - You'll see what I mean. This filler stuff is nuts - UNnecessary!! Be good to your body, it's the only one you've got, and you need it to last. Hurt it, & it will retaliate - Better believe it!! Fillers - Seriously?? Not worth the risk!! Health is wealth, so work on being well, because that's a blessing!!
I’m turning 30 this year and I was looking at my pictures from my late teens/early 20s and I have to agree my face has contoured out for some reason and I think I look waaay more attractive now vs then
@@ghostlobster6631 yeah, my face had baby weight on it when I was younger. Every day even still I notice a subtle change and my jawline contouring. Definitely look into facial massages/ oils and masks before bed and face yoga while you’re younger! I only just discovered them and I think upkeep makes a difference
My tear troughs filled in naturally when I started getting enough sleep. Since COVID shut everthing down, I've had 7-8 hours sleep every night for 3 months. I always thought that was a line of BS but it turns out sleep literally is "beauty rest".
Marie Mai It was probably the potassium in the bananas . Most of us don’t get enough and our skin needs it . Magnesium is another one that is good for skin we don’t get enough of .
I’m 19 rn, and lots of people mistake me for being 12-14 years old because I have a baby face. Its not the worst thing in the world, I’ll probably like that I look young when I’m in my 40s. But I want to look a little more attractive rather than looking like a kid. I hope I “grow into my face” as I enter my 20s.
29 and have the same face as 17. I like it sometimes others I don’t. I’m not messing with my face with surgery. I use tretinoin and spf only. Life is good.
Yeah, I noticed at 25 I was looking more sophisticated! It comforted me a lot because I was afraid of getting older. I am almost 35 now and I think I look really good! It helps that I have oily skin (yay acne!) and I never tanned after age 14.
KH Kayla meeee i’m 21 and people think i’m 16 all the time. i used to work at a store that IDed at the door and people often asked me if i was old enough to work there lol. i hope my face slims down otherwise i’m considering buccal fat removal
My surgeon stopped me from getting a buccal(?) fat pad removal on my face when I was younger by telling me that my face would become more defined as I age, and he was so right. I never understood the trend of bloated, puffy fillerized faces!

Joeistherealest - thats only going to help on the outside, and for only so long. Security comes from within and until you figure that out you’ll always be chasing it.... eventually your going to age so you need to be ready for it mentally... fillers or not!
Brèagha- we’re talking about fillers and growing old doesn’t mean your broken...you will have wrinkles. That is what I am talking about. Thank you for making this video! I am just 23 years old and since i was 20 my laugh lines were already static due to alot of weight loss (40kg). Since a couple of months ive been noticing them more and more but i dont want to get anything done about my face because its my canvas of life. But its quite hard to not feel insecure about it. When you google: Are laugh lines beautifull the only thing that pops up are plastic surgeons. That shit bothers me alot because they create unrealisitic beauty standards and they profit of insecurities of people. And i understand you help the people get rid of their insecurity but you create them for the others by helping that person. I just wanted to see some positive points about getting/having wrinkles but the only thing i found was how to get rid of them. The stigma around wrinkles is so misplaced at the moment and i am waiting for the revolution were everyone is considered beatifull just the way they are/age. Sorry for the long comment but im just really fed up with this. Don't get it wrong i respect you for not filling up faces anymore but i just think the beauty standards that are created cause unnecessary distress for alot of people. And to the one person that reads this comment: You are beautifull and special just the way you are, don't let anyone ever tell you anything different.
I'm 30 and I dermaroll my face at home and my skin and little lines are going away, there's other ways to improve lines and wrinkles other than pumping fillers into the skin
One of the most beautiful men I know, has them on early age: Jensen Ackles. If you see Supernatural pilot episode, there they are. I think he takes care of his body and face ('cus it shows), but his crow feet shows how much he loves to laugh.
@Tamara Charm no,don't get a facelift, completely unnecessary. For under eyes hollows you can have your own fat transfered under your eyes for a longer effect.
Tamara: Pay attention. If you listen, he talks about that at about 5:43. He said just very little filler will help smooth out that hollow area under the eyes. He just a very small amount of filler.
@Tamara Charm I read that the fat lasts much longer than fillers and it is natural. It can last for years whereas filler is only good for 1. Plus you are not injecting any bad chemicals. I would encourage you to read about it,I would much preffer the fat.I read couple of articles of people being happy with the fat and I also read about people regretting the fillers. I think it is better to talk to professionals, this is just my opinion
@Tamara Charm I mean, the fillers also have side effects. If done incorrectly it can even cause blindness . I think you should do some research on your own and then get at least 2 professional opinions. Just make sure that you can trust the doctor who gives you advice, because some of them will advice you to get the fat injection just because it is more expensive. I am interested in getting it too,but probably not these couple years. Obviously ,anything invasive can have some consequences, how serious and whether they are reversible are important questions to consider
Brilliant videos. Thank you so much Dr Chan, you’re an absolute star and I am so lucky to have come across your videos. Love them and so informative honest and helpful. I love the one about tear trough.. I suffer from them a lot. I now know what to say to my Dr when I next see her. Sadly I’m in London UK but would have loved to have come to your clinic in Melbourne.
Surgery isn't necessary. Just eat healthy, have a good skincare routine, wear sun screen, exercise to be/stay fit, brush your teeth, go to the dentist and be a happy person.
Charmaine Espeut surgery is necessary after a certain age, in order to cut off the saggy skin. No amount of healthy food and brushing teeth can replace a good facelift.
@Veronica Bolanos Women don't age for the worse until they are 35 and up. If you don't look good between 18-35 then you will never look good unfortunately.
I’ve stumbled upon this channel at the most perfect time in my life. When I’ve been always wanting to do fillers and even planning before mid 20’s. Eye opener to the max as well as education on the matters of fillers. Taking care of the body from the inside out for results is key priority..
Thank you for discussing this. I have seen so many celebrities I grew up with gradually morph into someone completely different after doing facial procedures, often looking less attractive in my opinion. I am fearful of any kind of face treatment and think poorly of the plastic surgery field for making people look so bizarre.
They don't like the result and make the mistake of thinking more is the answer, when it's less. People find it very difficult to admit mistakes to themselves.
I think they don’t realize that the filler is still there after being spread oit and losing definition. So maybe they think it’s their own face and wants more of that first filler definition withour realising it will only get worse 😩

Excellent overview of filler by this doctor. I had filler (non-hyaluronic) put in the tops of my hands to smooth out wrinkles-- big mistake. Now my hands look deformed, fat, and disproportionate. Since it was non-hyaluronic filler, it cannot be removed with hyaluronidase. Arrggh.
