I've been gone for months again. But this is why I stopped playing the sims 4. In the video, while giving the reasons why I stopped playing I only gave a few simple examples. I didn't want the video to be too long, there is a lot more that could have been said.
But I feel like the point was made, at least I hope I managed to explain my thoughts and feelings.
I'd love to hear your thoughts!

What was your longest break from playing the sims?

I played 1&2 then three. I bought the Sims 4 disc a week or two after it came out, but never found the time to put it on my computer. My granny was diagnosed with Alzheimers a couple of days later. We were so busy with that for over 4 years I never touched the disc and rarely had time for the Sims three (2 days a year maybe) which I love, but my current laptop won't run. After granny died on Thanksgiving 2018 my parents and I decided to move to another state, which happened one year later, so it was March or April of 2020 before I could try the Sims 4. So my longest break from the Sims was 5 years or so. The Sims 4 has been a major let-down. I had never heard of mods before then, Sims 4 is unplayable without them. I do not have all the packs and ignore any packs that have no gameplay, so I don't own any kits or stuff packs. I already know that the Sims 4 will be the end for me regarding the franchise. I have no interest in continuing with the franchise at all, when #5 will likely be full of microtransactions, subscription only, and other features that I consider dodgy. And it will also be aimed at kids and teens, not adults, so they will lose me as a player. When I replace my laptop, I will switch to a desktop, and I will make sure that it will run the Sims 3, which has waaaaay more gameplay. I already have all the Sims 3 content that I want on discs, so it will be better for me than the Sims 4 because I wont need a bunch of mods and regularly updating them, to play it. That is a couple of years away though. I do not use build/buy or CAS for my own content, I re-use Sims I have, when I do 100 baby challenges sometimes and save the kids (once they age up) to my library so I have hundreds of sims to choose from that I don't have to make. To me, CAS is very tedious, even in past Sims games. Building stuff is also tedious, so I get buildings off the gallery, so those kits and stuff packs are worthless to me, and there are more kits than anything else. If the Sims 4 had as much gameplay as the Sims 3 I might not be so upset about the kits, but still, they focus way too much on kits, when they could add that stuff to gamepacks and expansions and make those better. The sims is the only computer game I play, I have never played video games on a TV console.

When I discovered the community, I watched so many videos trying to get a better idea of which packs to get. I don't own any kits as well, I would only see myself get a gameplay kit, but it seems like they scratched the idea after they released bust the dust. I wish I had my sims 3 discs! sadly I don't, and I am not going to repurchase them. I have spent TOO MUCH money on this franchise 😒

@@DannaBelle Yeah, all dementia sucks. We can hope that they come up with better treatments so that future generations won't have to deal with that crap. I do have that vacuum gameplay pack at the bottom of my "to buy" list, along with the rest of the busted (hehe) packs. But none of the other kits. I was going to get rid of my discs when we moved, but I changed my mind in case I didn't like the Sims 4, I am glad I kept them. When my new (in 2020) wouldn't run 3 so I was stuck with 4 until I can replace my desktop in a couple/few years. I agree, this franchise is getting more and more expensive for less and less real gameplay content.

This is why I decided a long time ago that I will only buy the packs I know need (like Seasons, Cats and dogs, parenthood) I think the last one was get famous but I regreted buying that pack - I decided that the only pack I will buy for the sims 4 is will be “generations” then I am done with it. I still do not understand why people keep buying the “cashgrab packs” like some fanatic collectors

I'm 34. I started playing Sims when. I was 14 (I started with Sims 1 as well) and prior to Sims 4, I really thought that the franchise just got better and more ambitious. Sims 4 is literally the laziest sh*t ever and is unplayable without mods. I mean, think about that. How is it that Sims modders are able to give us the things (animations, clothes, fixes, gameplay, etc) that we want but a bunch of developers backed by a multi billion dollar company can't? I really wish people would stop spending money on EA. Its the only reason they feel justified in doing this stuff.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. I complained to my boyfriend ones, and he asked who owns the sims 4 and I said EA and then he was like oh well what did you expect. 🙄

I have 4 packs, i'm pretty sure i got them all when there were big sales, but i never understood how paying full price is worth it. I feel like a lot of packs, even the ones i really enjoy should have more content. It's also terrible how we have to rely on mods to fix certain issues, even ones that have been in the game for a long time.

None of the packs are worth full price! I bought packs full price when I didn't know they often had sales and they go half price and I was so maddddd lol then I never bought any pack full price again. The price tag is just insane.

Luckily modders exist to fix everything and make the game better , more realistic and more enjoyable imo. 😌 I find it truly sad that we as a community need to fix a game and even though the packs are broken, they still want us to pay so much for it ! Rip console players tho 😅

There is this simulation game (it's not finished yet and they're taking their time , as they should) but they interact with the people to see what is wanted and if it is able to put in the game, they try their best to do it! I've seen tiny videos of the progress and it's already looking so awesome imo. It's called Paralives, maybe that's also the reason why EA is doing all these updates to make us stay and buy sims 5 😅

I haven't played The Sims 4 in 3 months and I haven't bought anything for The Sims 4 since High School Years, and I'm going to go back to playing The Sims 3, because out of all of them The Sims 3 is my favorite it has one loading screen then you can play until your hearts content. Nothing will ever beat cars, open world and the ability to create and put houses and lots literally anywhere, and edit the worlds to your liking. And I miss the color wheel. If I do buy anything else from EA it will be for The Sims 3.

The sims 3 is definitely my favorite as well. It was a difficult transition. I really don't know where my discs are, I hope I will find it one day haha

i really hope more competition comes, ea essentially controls the market since paralives is in early development. manifesting ea's downfall soon 😀 its frustrating too since ea is taking advantage of simmers who buy only for nostalgia. Its painful to see, i personally haven't played the sims 3. but seeing red plumbob's comparison videos really changed my view about past sims games. they really devolved..i hope ea doesnt take us for granted again with the sims 5 release but knowing ea..

I've been playing since The Sims 2 and I have to say The Sims 4 didn't hit the same way the other games did. I remember playing the Sims 3 for 400+ hours (no CC) before I bought my first DLC expansion and I only did so because I wanted to play around with some cool new stuff. The base game was incredibly fun. Sims 4 on the other hand was extremely boring. I remember playing it at launch and thinking "this is it?!" I still had faith that future updates and expansions would fix the game but boy was I in for a ride. DLC's were either lackluster or broken and never got a refresh not to mention DLC for DLC... Seriously?.. Don't get me wrong there's a bunch of things I love about The Sims 4 even compared to the older games. Build mode is very fun, CAS was nice (with CC tho :/) and some packs + expansions were fun playing through. That said, I can't help but take long breaks here and there. I've criticized The Sims 4 a lot but it's because I truly love the series and I hate seeing it get a bad rep because of bad business practices.

I have every single pack an kit that has come out so far. I hat we still have bugs and fixes we still haven't gotten. They got to fix a lot of bugs. We won't get them until we stop paying for overpriced packs and I think your right I stopped playing from time to time. I'm thinking to stop playing and buying packs for a short time. I liked your video. Ravyn out.

whenever i stop playing the sims 4 it's because i get obsessed with a different game, but to be honest it's the first and only sims game i played (simply because i never even knew of its existence before this one got out) i started playing it pirated with all the packs and mods and etc, base game was way too boring, being realistic, it is not worth it unless you can afford a lot of packs and extra content.

I’m the same way. I go from sims to new game and back to sims. If you have time please try pirating the sims 2 and sims 3. Graphically you’ll be disappointed but omg the gameplay!!!! I promise the gameplay will keep you hooked for hours. You have customizable neighborhoods, realistic animations, and a better base game. For packs I suggest sims 2 open for business. You can sell almost anything and no limitations. Home businesses too. For sims 3 all expansions are good but I’d choose island paradise or generations depending on what interests you. Sims 4 isn’t a bad game. I just wish it had what sims 2/3 did.

I have no way to prove it, and I'm not a tech person, but I think the game broke my laptop. I ended up having to get a new hard drive for it. I had a save file that had my core family on it, and my laptop only crashed whenever I played the sims...

It's a heavy game to run. also, depends on how many packs you have, it can be even harder for a computer to run. My laptop was struggling too🙁

I also decided to drop the Sims 4 because of how it feels overall, I have a low end laptop and although it can go moderate in some instances I still feel that mods are the only thing that are worth my time in this game, recently I tried to play but then saw an error that is 100% caused by my cc another update is coming soon so I decided that I would not waste my time erasing and searching for mods tbh at least i wouldn't for this game. The Sims 3 and The Sims 2 had a special feeling to me with and without nostalgia and they were amazing titles, if I was facing the same case I would 100% still play without mods. Sucks tho, guess I'm gonna need to get a better computer to fulfill my Sims 3 10 gens dream.

I have played Sims from the very beginning, Sims 4 has been the biggest disappointment for me. After Sims 3, which had so much more, open world, taking toddlers for a walk in their stroller, cars shopping etc. So it was a bit like going back in time to Sims 2, and we the customers have had to pay to bring it up to a better level, which came with more bugs than I can remember in previous Sims. I haven't bought some of the packs, the supernatural and Werewolf, they just don't appeal which then deprives me of the extra content in furnishings. With Sims 3 you could just buy extras separately, plus that which came with a new pack which was value for money. I held off buying High School Years, when I did it brought new bugs into the game all of which haven't been resolved. I play for a few days, get fed up with the game crashing, and Sims who use the bathroom then walk down two floors to wash their hands in the kitchen sink, even though there is a loo next to the washbasin, then go back to the bathroom and have a shower. I have changed the layouts of bathrooms, to stop this, even making the bathroom just big enough to fit everything in, but it doesn't stop. My grandson who is a developer in the IT world says it is because the developers of Sims are under great pressure to bring out new content before it is ready and that corners are being cut by lack of staff who play and test the game and then correctany errors in the coding, because EA wants the income from gamers buying new content. I doubt I will risk buying Sims 5 when it is launched, if Sims 4 is anything to go by, there will be less content than Sims 4 and if we want to increase it it will cost big bucks to do so.

I’m new to Sims 4, only a couple of weeks in, I bought about 5 DLCs during the holiday sale…. I noticed for a game that’s been around for 10 years, it’s still very glitchy, a lot of DLCs are overpriced esp the ones that are old as dirt and some of these DLCs should’ve been in base game (EA always been money hungry with all there games from Need to Speed to some of their sports games)

I quit playing the sims 4 for years after first buying it because I couldn’t get over the lack of things to do with and without packs and the lack of open spaces. The neighborhood system that’s stupid and cannot be customized only lots can be destroyed and built upon. The bugs in this game are insane. For some reason the fps drops down to like 1 when in buy buy mode and when first in the game and in other lots but once I put up the options menu it fixes it self. For some reason the only real like fun activity my sims can do is Karaoke. Swimming and snowboarding that’s literally all they have for anything fun for your sim to do. Unless you buy a stuff pack or game pack then you’ll just have a million little things you could do. But as for places to go they only reall push karaoke pools bars gyms and those events where you could do snow boarding. It gets pretty boring when you do the same thing over and over. I wish they added more to it because it is boring.

I’m at almost 2 years and I don’t think I’m gonna play until Sims 5 comes out, if it’s not a piece of s***. What I really can’t stand is the creators looking at us like we’re problematic players when really we just want playable content and good gameplay. Is anyone else still pissed off years later that they came out with a nifty knitting pack?!? like what the f*** do we want to watch our sims knitt for 20$

@@DannaBelle Something is going on with EA. I’ve heard Disney bought them out. I’ve heard they have strict guidelines and budget cuts. Whatever it is they need a systemic change quick. This game HAD the potential to be a $1 billion cash grab, if they did it the right way. I’m a grown adult making my own income ready to buy all of their expansion packs (if they were good) but they were all garbage

Idk if this is a popular opinion or not but cottage living seems to be the only pack worth the money. It has the gameplay, lore, build/buy, world and for some reason my gameplay always revolves around it. Every other pack seems mostly empty and lackluster but this may just be my subjective opinion

I quit playing for 2 years and moved to sims 3 and I've been forcing myself to play sims 4 for a couple days and its just that we what you do for your sim doesn't matter the moodlets don't last that long and there's no physical affect on your sim also theres a real lack of public lots if you don't have expansions,theres nothing to do in the game and even if you did something or completed an aspiration it feels like it doesn't even matter :/ I want to love sims 4 since it was the first game I bought but the game is near the same it was at release and the huge updates we do get- are in expansions so you have to pay more just to have a chance of gameplay;^;

I stopped playing TS4 about six months ago. When the wedding pack came out completely broken, preceded by Batuu, I just couldn't do it anymore. EA will continue to put less and less content into each pack, kit, whatever they come out with next and will still charge +$40 for it. It's becoming increasingly obvious that they only care about sales, not quality assurance. They would rather release a broken, unusable pack in the quickest amount of time possible than actually produce something interesting and fleshed out. Can't miss out on those insane sales for a delay!!! At this point it wouldn't surprise me if TS5 has micro transactions.

I love the sims but i have never played consistently even when sims 3 was out i would play for a few weeks and then stop playing and same with sims 4 i dont think sims games are supposed to be played for months on end unless your addicted to it but especially for video games every addiction will break eventually

Honestly, even though I played the sims for more than 10 years, I am just disappointed with what they are doing now. Like why do we have to pay for seasons - that should have been in the base game. High school years? Paying for a pack that focuses on teenagers going to high school? Stupid. The pets pack should have covered additional animals, not just cats and dogs 🤷🏼‍♀️. There are so many packs that should have been in the base game only to begin with! And their prices are rediculous. I also have a theory that they are mainly focusing on creating kits because a lot of people buy them. Why? Because its better to buy some content for a few dollars rather than buy game packs and expansion packs that do not even work!. And yes! I totally agree when you said "they hype us up but in the end they give us nothing". There is so much potential that this game could offer but they are literally give the bare minimum - they give crumbs, and that is why i stopped buying any packs. These games arent worth the hype at all. They create these trailers and you would think "wow, they improved with the game" but no. I get it, its business, they want to profit from us, but this is not the way. This is why im kinda interested in what they will do with Paralives. I secretly want them to exceed our expectations because sims seriously needs some competition.

I still play from time time but haven't bought anything for over 2 years and will not buy Sims 5. I really like the look of the Paranormal pack but refuse to give EA any more money.

I bet it upset you a bit when they decided to release the base game for free despite a LOT of people paying 60$-80$ for it initially. Even if you or others got it on sale, it still felt really slimy. They didn't even give you a decent pack or two, they just gave out a small shitty kit that was worth 5$ (in reality its worth 0.99$) The agenda of theirs is to push people to buy the packs that are CLEARLY overpriced. A good chunk of them aren't even worth buying ON SALE. Like I can't even get into playing with the sims to begin with, the gameplay was too slow and was just lackluster. I just liked the building aspect, especially in the Sims 3. How long is EA going to last, pulling this kind of bullshit?? Like seriously, they're clearly on the verge of bankruptcy.

$60-$80 ??? wow. Insane. I paid 5 euro for it when it was on sale. What upsets me is the insane price tag of the packs. When I just started, I bought it full price then I realized they are having sales every once in a while, then I never bought any pack full price again.

I’m the same. My fav is sims 2 with mods but sims 3 for open worlds and create a style. Sims 4 graphically is good but the bugs and shallow gameplay is repulsive. If they can’t fix the packs or add new mechanics so things go smoothly then they should’ve not made so many packs and stick to the stuff/expansions only like their predecessors. Them sending out broken packs is unacceptable. I love the sims and always will but the hype and excitement is only in my childhood. Now we have sims 4 and sims 5 will be worse im sure. Sorry for ranting. Love the vid.

I actually love Sims 4 now, which is a strange feeling. I've hated the game since release in 2014, and continued to hate it for the past almost 10 years until about 1 month ago. The reason? I played Sims 2 and 3 again. They were my everything. I had every pack for both growing up, but playing them now... The games are completely worthless. Kids don't care about quality, so I never worried about corruption or crashing. But as an adult, Sims just isn't worth the effort of modding it just to get it to function. So, I love Sims 4. I only have MC Command Center, and literally don't touch any options in it. It just does whatever it does on its own, and I ignore it. The game runs far better than any Sims game from the past, which means there's less hassle for me to enjoy the game. Is 4 still a disappointment? Yep. But it's less of a disappointment than 2 and 3 for me. So until we get a better Sims game, I've just basically accepted Sims 4 and go with it

After High School Years I was bitterly disappointed. I’d so been looking forward to that it was just another broken crap pack with tons of missed opportunities and lackluster gameplay. Since then I’ve lost all faith in them. No matter how spectacular the concept of any future packs, you just can’t get excited knowing it probably won’t work and will never be fully functional even with patches and hot fixes.

The real question is do you, the reader, plan on playing Sims 5? If you genuinely dislike the state of Sims 4 I would be HIGHLY sceptical of whatever comes next in the series. EA has a lot of work ahead to build back my trust.

Sorry to break it to ya Dani, this is " The Sims 4 " and is runed by EA things will not get better...they never do, if anything they always get worse and the real reason they didn't continue with refreshes is because EA are lazy and like to make as much money by putting in as little effort as possible, why do you think they keep dropping kits and stopped with stuff packs?

Yeah, I guess the spa day refresh didn't create a lot more sales, so it wasn't profitable probably. I was really excited for more stuff packs because the last one they did (even though it's very niche) was done really well. And then they stopped 😂 I have to stay hopeful cause every once in a while, they do release something nice. ☺

Or stop acting like 10yo who had first more serious thoughts. Im sure most of people here had to deal with loss of family member. I understand that at first point it seems like end of the world and nothing worse can happen but in time you will see that if stuff, not only big makes us upset. Forcing yourself to enjoy everything even when they feed you shit is very toxic and leads to dangerous behaviour patterns. Being upset about things is normal, especially if someone is close to someone/something for a long time. I guess you were playing only ts4 so you dont get point of this video which greatly shows that ts4 is nothing in comparision to previous games. Life is too short to act like I-know-all-buffoon, heal wounds after your loved one and come back here when you feel ready to be social on Internet - not to throw your trauma on others
