It’s March 2021, I’m in Michigan, and I can’t wait to get back on my Goldwing. 132 miles in the sun and fresh air. What a great day for a ride. Thanks for the video!
As a 21 year old CBT rider (hoping to be on the Deauville 650 I bought by next year) this hits wonderfully, a lovely video of Devon as well, I used to go to Dawlish from Essex at least once every two years when I was a child, you have filled me with excitement to get the A2 course completed and go on some tours with my mates :-) you've made my day.
Thank you! This is why I do these videos for comments like this. If this inspires you and gets you on two wheels I’m calling that a win! Good luck with your test..you’ll never regret it
@@biker1k you have encouraged me a lot my friend, thank you so much 🙂 I will be booking an A2 the moment I get my TX125 running, as I have been riding a Honda Vision 110 around for nearly 2 years now and I am not confident at all with gears yet.
I need to get out there, I have raced motocross since I was 5 until I was 32. I joined Army and got my HGV class 1 licenses and now drive professionally for a fuel tanker company. There is a certain comradery between fellow bikers and HGV drivers and we understand each other I have noticed, especially me being a biker. Long overdue I got my full bike license, with a means to ride with my father who was also a biker naturally and had a Yamaha VMAX. Unfortunately he passed away before our plans to ride to Scotland as father and son. He left me his Yamaha VMAX 1200. I want to ride in his honour now I miss him so much. He really taught me how to ride and race motocross as an ex motocross rider himself and I won many races from his nurturing and teachings. I'm 38 now but I want to keep his VMAX for sentimental purposes but also want another bike. I need to get out there for him. Seeing this video has really gave me the kick up the ass I need. I love it. Thank you.
Thanks for your comment. Being a ‘Pongo’ I can forgive you for that as an ex sailor but having your dad’s bike and not riding it is sacrilege sir!! Just bite the bullet and get out there and ride the vmax. If your local to Devon I’ll go out for a ride with you. HGV driving and motorbikes somehow seem to go hand in hand and lots of truckers are bikers too. They way I teach people too drive HGV is so similar to how people are taught to ride bikes as in the forward planning and awareness skills required to survive the other shall we say road users instead of idiots out there. Keep both the bike and the tankers shiny side up and one day I’ll catch you in the flip flop
Thank you for taking me back to some of my old stamping grounds that I have not seen since I left to live in Australia in 1972. I had forgotten just how narrow Devon lanes are.
Just found this channel and god had I wish I’d found it sooner. You have taught me to ride safer just by you enjoying your ride. Stay safe out there man
Couple of years ago I saw a broken down bike on motorway hard shoulder and stopped to see if I could help. It was a black Kawasaki Z1100 with a battery so flat it couldn't turn over the engine, and because the carriageway was uphill, he couldn't get enough speed up to bump start it alone. Two of us together pushed this monster up the hard shoulder fast enough for the rider to dump the clutch, get the engine to fire, then clutch in and rev it hard to keep it alive while I ran back down the hill to get his helmet and my own bike. It was then that I saw the 3M reflective sticker (white on a white helmet) saying POLICE. Pulling up beside him and handing his helmet over, I noticed POLICE in black embroidery on his black leather jacket. Sneaky. I kept his bike revving while he put on his helmet and gloves. "I owe you one mate" were his final words before he tore off.
Well done you... To me it don't matter if he is a police biker he is a biker and we should all stop and help fellow bikers in times of need.... Thanks for your comments
Hi Joan.. Thanks for your comments. This one slipped by me so sorry for the late reply. Do it.. Get a bike for the hubby you will love it Or even get your own bike and let hubby buy his own 😂
Nice vid. I am a 70 year old “one k er” myself ! Just had my anti covid jab no.1 let’s hope we can all get back to biking around freely again soon. Best wishes, Jon
I was trying to make it read like “wan-k-er” Haha! NOW I get it, your bike only cost 1K ! I somehow missed that first time around, what a great buy! I admit my 2008 GS 650 twin cost a bit more than that, I was gonna go to France last year...... I guess a lot of peoples’ plans got cancelled, or at least postponed.
@@longjonwhite haha yeah this covid thing has decimated lives and practically stopped most hobbies. I was supposed to be going on a deauville owners West Wales tour but it got cancelled too oops sorry postponed!!
Derek I am glad you enjoyed it and if I can help you relive some memories I certainly will. I enjoy working on my bike as mu h as I enjoy riding it but there is no better feeling than going for a ride on a lovely day with good mates even if you have nowhere to go and are just out for the ride...

Oviously, now long time retired. Best wishes.
Whoo good luck, did mine recently and was well worth it, the freedom and joy in riding is unbeatable, find a group to ride with too, fun and experienced riders to learn from 😎👍🏻
@@biker1k Yes, I use a lot of bike training techniques now with students. “Drive 10 seconds ahead of the car” being one example. As an ADI you know how difficult some things can be to our students but it really does reinforce what a learning curve they’re on when you start to ride yourself. I’m quite late to riding at 51 & hadn’t previously ridden at all. It’s very addictive though!
@@KentishTT and as a result you will be able to aid your students with techniques to calm the nerves etc as we all get nervous on test days. At 51 you are at a nice age to start riding... You will have that mature attitude that a safe and competent rider needs and you will also know your limitations too. Best of luck mate and enjoy your 2 wheel adventures... Its a blast
Thanks for watching... We had bike comms but unfortunately we all have different systems so was no good lol.. Why can't all Bluetooth comms work together??
If you thought those were near misses don't come here to Bogota. It will scare the pants off you, it did me, but I've now been here for 3 years and I've got used to it.
Really enjoyable video and subscribed! Wish I could find a group of people like yourselves to ride with that don’t feel the need to show off and race all of the time. I applaud your riding skills and hope I can be somewhere near as good in the future. Best regards

Hahaha yes mate we get it that your a safe, sensible, straight up, no speeding and little to no overtaking kind of rider 👍 lovely views and bet them roads would be great to ride in summer.
Just found your channel. Liked and subscribed. I've come back to bikes after a 35 year break and love it. Decided on a 400 Burgman which I find really comfortable to ride and more than powerful enough for me. Hoping to get out this year if this damn lock down is eased. Take care 💙❤️👍
Hi thanks for subscribing and glad you are enjoying the content. I also looked at maxi scooters before deciding on the deauville and I narrowed the search to either a Honda silverwing or burgman 400. Great machines and so practical. Yeah the lockdown has put a dampener on rides out but hopefully once we get past easter we can start enjoying biking again. Ride safe nd enjoy and if your travels bring you down Devon way give me a shout...
@@biker1k Will do if I'm down that way but I am based in Lincolnshire so a bit of a run for me. I was looking for a Silverwing or the Burgy 650 but I got a 2018 AN400 and well impressed with it so far.

@@biker1k haven’t been riding bikes for sometime now due chronic illness. Unfortunately it’s cars for me. I had two CBR 600 as well. But you know when you ride different bikes you end feeling at one with a bike and that bike for me was the zawasaki ZXR 600R .
@@biker1k Yep your Sure are right there mate , some really great times and memories . When I watch videos like yours I’m wishing I was back in them days. Do you remember the Honda CX 500 I think it was my mate had one hell it weighed a ton it was a tank on two wheels. I remember the days seeing Yamaha RD500 and the RG 500 Gamma two stroke rockets 🚀 back in the days. 😀
Nice footage of what looked like a pleasant rideout. Your 'They're all out today' surprises me how you found a need to mention a couple of cars cautiously creeping passed the giveaway lines. Obviously had one of the oncoming vehicles hit them they would have been classed as pulling out in front of oncoming but there is no way they were anywhere near to pulling out in front of you. Perhaps if drivers were less in a hurry and allowed people out more there wouldn't be the need to creep beyond the lines. As said though nice footage :)
I still find it strange watching videos on roads that I have ridden so may times myself. Working out where you are and if it's sequence .... keep up the great content.
Hi mate looks like you having a great time, maybe I will catch you one day when I do my license, it was long time since I had a bike, unfortunately there is always something more important. Stay safe and hopefully see you soon
Really enjoyed this. Thanks. If only all bike rides could be like this. But for our vehicle choked roads these days. What was the background music used? Loved it. Good choice.
@@biker1k Challenge accepted. Went searching with 'SHAZAM". I'm of an age that has six decades of eclectic musical taste. Of your music compilation to this vid. 06:40 to 09:58 is 'Eternal' by Marin Hoxha & Caravn. 10:03 to 14:20 is an instrumental version of 'Faded' by Alan Walker. Both of these would be classified as electronique. The mood of these two pieces in particular perfectly suit these sections of your ride.
Half watching while on phone call... Glance up and think - That's Kingsteignton Tesco's station! Nice to enjoy the view without worrying about the other idiots trying to kill me.
@@biker1k Right, never too old. I bought a bike when I was 63 and hadn't rode one since I used to tear around fields as a kid. Cursing for not doing it years ago. Decided on doing a DAS when the CBT was due for renewal last April and then the world had a little hiccup in 2020.
A lovely surprise to find a, three, responsible riders for once. In my experience of driving on UK roads most, if not all bikers, are idiots with no control over their throttle or speed. Nice to see an IAM rider. I had never heard of IPSGA before. I will try that when I'm driving. I don't ride bikes any more, they were only small ones when I did ride!
Thanks Chris very kind of you to say so. IPSGA is the fundamental of advanced riding and driving but it does take some practice to get right. Have you ever considered doing your advanced car test with IAMS Roadsmart it is not that costly and is a massive achievement
Chris Dean, if your ever in Weston super Mare pop in to our clubhouse & let everyone know you think most Bikers if not all are idiots. Be great to see you.
Haha, the only speeding ticket I've got was from a biker tripod operator... when I saw humans I was coming around the corner I just waved at him me knowing well I have sinned;))) it was a proper hello there wave not flipping him off.
@@biker1k Oh yesss...;)) My only issues are in town speed limits. If it's 20, then you can do 30, no harm... If it's 30, then it's no way I'm not doing 40 because the road is good enough. Exception to this rule of mine: schools, play grounds. I got caught in town. Have a lovely riding season!
Hi Mike sorry the wife says no!! You are welcome to join me for more rides and seen as your in torquay and I'm newton abbot I guess your gonna recognise some of the local roads too.. Thanks for your comment
Not a bike person but I love the whole journey great content, and of course the west country makes the difference it reminds me of Ireland and the people are very similar
Nice relaxing video. I'm a big Deauville fan. I'm on my third (one 650 and two 700s) and have covered about 200k miles on them, mostly long distance commuting and a bit of business. Now retired (early) and looking at other bikes but so far I've not found anything as comfy or practical, especially as we're hoping to do a bit of two-up touring. I really wish Honda still produced them as I'd buy another like a shot. There's rumours of a new NT1100 coming with the Africa Twin engine, but that'll no doubt be too bloody expensive, and perhaps a bit far removed from the original idea - especially as it won't be a shaftie anymore. Guess I'll hang on to DV No.3 for a while longer.. :-)
Thanks for your comments and I couldn't agree more they are amazing bikes that can do it all and all of it in comfort. Why Honda don't come up with a new deauville that matches the original concept instead of the much rumoured 'deu-twin' idea.
Amazing how often accident blackspots (the official line is they only site speed cameras at accident blackspots) are on straight fast flat roads where it's safe to exceed the totally arbitrary speed limits, isn't it....?
I see the guy on that gixxer and think to myself, one day I will get me a sport bike. For now, the 1000 V Strom adventure to get me back into it and into better shape...but one day...
I'd like to think the lads on bikes that got 'caught' after you stopped to check he was OK got off lightly. (Unless they were being stupid of course when there is no defence) Deauville for a Grand...that's a sub from me.... I'll check out some of your other vids now....
Two speed cameras within that short stretch of road....Don’t tell me it’s not all about revenue collection. Got no time for those idiots. D and C are among the worse for this.
So the police actually use laser/radar from behind in England? It gives you time to break in time. Opposite of the Swedish cops - always hiding in bushes as shooting at the front...

Jeez... You think haha thanks for pointing that out to me note to self... Must try better... Hey buddy thanks for taking the time to watch and comment it is very much appreciated
My understanding is that it increase your braking distance between riders ie if you have to brake you can tide past the staggered rider in the front of you as opposed to riding into them
Why did you say bloody speed cameras, that cop probably spends a lot of his time sitting through the postmortem of numerous dead bikers and is trying to stop any more by preventing excess speed. I know I,ve done it.
Because as I'm sure your aware what is does is cause all motorists to slow down excessively. As a hgv driver for over 35 yrs doing 2.5 to 3k miles a week I've seen the aftermath of excess speed too and as an advanced motorists I seldom speed (note I said seldom). I now teach people to drive all classes except cars and I spend my life sayung slow down watch your speed
I grew up in teignmouth and live a few miles out now but love riding my bike all year round here it’s so much more convenient than a car.Shame all the grockles clog up the roads in the summer but if your ever in teignmouth on a Tuesday night there’s a bike night at the train station.
@@biker1k I’m still waiting on doing my full license so stuck with a 125cc Honda xr currently (red and black 07plate) I didn’t mean to badmouth the grockles as I love it in the summer just need more care on roads in general sometimes

Your not the first person to say this Tim and we have had a discussion with some fairly senior IAMS and ROSPA people all with varying opinions. Hello new York this is England hehe It is just a generic royalty free soundtrack I will give you the name later once I get home. I'm glad you enjoyed the video
Thanks Neil for pointing this out. We all develop some bad habits and this is one I must address. According to rule 129 of the highway code it states that ( except for a few exceptions) we must not cross a double solid white line. Is it not a mute point to say that although my panniers may have crossed the line my bike wheels had not and therefore I had not actually been in contravention if rule 129 as it states that you shall not cross and my wheels had not crossed. Not looking to be argumentative just seeking clarity. As a HGV instructor I have to teach my students to be ready to cross solid white lines when exiting a minor road for example and to do so with extreme caution but if that's is the only way we can get a 60ft plus vehicle out of a minor road then that is acceptable. I am aware that rule 129 says we can cross solid white lines when turning into a drive way etc but would my panniers crossing the white constitute a breach of this rule if my tyres, the contact patch I have with the tarmac, is still on the correct side of the lines.
@@biker1k thanks biker 1k. I am observer for the iam I was just pointing it out as it common mistake by a lot off riders with panniers on I look at it as a brick wall. would you ride that close crossing the white line at junctions turning on to a road is a exception cheers neil
@Neil Howarth, your not the only qualified observer watching this, Biker1k was just about perfect with the exception of a few minors, one being forgetting the 2 second rule even when riding staggered, Red and Green since 1988 and ROSPA gold.
Your bike and your money it goes without saying ... But your bike will love you so much more if you run it on Super-unleaded fuel... Run it for a month on 97/99 octane super-unleaded fuel ..You won't go back to 95 octane regular fuel I promise you...I think it is about 10p a litre more expensive... A mere £1 on a ten litre "Top up"
I used to run it on super unleaded for one tank then unleaded for one tank. Didn’t make much difference really. I guess if it was injected it might but not so much on carbs

Video was OK, but spoilt by some of the worst royalty-free “music” I have ever heard! It must be hard for your mates to hover around 60 mph on bikes just itching to do 100 mph+. There were a lot of police around Devon/Somerset/Cornwall. They mustn’t have anything better to do.
I'm guessing your not a fan of the music then... Legal limits were observed as its the law. You may have a good fun ride at 100mph+ but you won't do it for long on public roads before you get banned or worse... Dead.
@@biker1k I agree with you, and I would only go those sort of speeds on track days, or on autobahns, but slow speeds on a GSX1000R are very uncomfortable for the rider (wrists, legs, back etc). I assume “ram” was an automated spell-checker! ;-) I rode a Suzuki GT185 in the 1970’s, two or three Honda CB250’s, a Suzuki GT250 in the 80’s, a Honda CBR1000F for 4 years in the 90’s, followed by an ST1100A Pan European for 16 years, and I have a clean licence, so I’m not a teenager anymore.
