Why I swapped out my Goodyear Wranglers for Falken Rubitreks 

As a gen1 tundra owner, your videos are the best! Wish more youtubers were like you. Just an honest, "I'm not an expert, but here's what I did, here is how I did it, heres why I did it, and here's how it has worked out thus far" without all the annoying extra fluff! That being said, I think you might even be too humble, watched one of your videos and realized it was too much for me to do and rather just take it too a mechanic. Can't remember which one though

Goodyears get louder, I had the Duratracs and they wore down but going louder. Of course nothing beats a set of Nitto Mud Grappler & Ironman All Country M/Ts... those drowned out the radio at 65 MPH 😆

Do you know how similar the tread pattern would be to say a Goodyear All-Terrain Adventure with Kevlar? I had these tires on my 4runner before switching to the Wildpeaks and had zero issues with them. I'm currently running a set of the new AT4W's and I've been having a rough time with them. I'm okay with the noise and vibrations as it's a more aggressive tire, but Toyota, Mavis, and the original tire shop that installed them can't get them balanced correctly. I reached out to Falken and they were willing to work with me and those tire shops. They're willing to do a warranty claim and replace them even with a different model tire. I'm highly considering the Rubitreks to replace the AT4Ws. Or possibly just the HT/02, but am worried it might not be aggressive enough for some lighter off roading.

These do look like great tires. I put the AT Trail's on my wife's CUV (Eclipse Cross). Really great for all conditions. I have Wrangler Duratrac tires on my FJ Cruiser (and I've had them on 3 past Jeeps. They do great offroad, and on road all conditions, great in winter too!). I just put Duratrac's on like 5k miles ago. So I have some time before needing new tires. But, I am really into the Falken tires now. I'll be putting ZE950's on my Civic soon too.

Didn't rotate my tires and prolonged an alignment. Now I have to replace my rack and pinion. Lesson learned as well.

Of course thr Bad Year Stranglers were loud. They are Walmart exclusive junk from BadYear. Just be happy they're round, black, and have a hole in the middle. They are the lowest grade of construction to be DOT approved, most likely Chinese made junk. Great farm truck tires cuz they're cheap and they're cheap for a reason.

I can hear these guys with their lifted trucks and mud tires coming down the road from quite a ways. I don't know how they can stand the noise. I hope those Rubitreks get more good reviews.

Wife daily’s a wrangler. We have had 2 sets of Hancock dynapros on it and they have been great. All stock set up and they have never left us stranded.

Seem like a real stand up guy. Love the updates on truck, I’m currently shopping for a first gen myself. Keep up the great work

Just got rid of my goodyears. Love my Ram but hated the tires. I'm only a week in with the Rubitreks but so much quieter! I rotate very often. Had 60 K on the goodyears. Lets see how long these last

Ur trucks insulation must really suck. I've had mine for a while now and there the same I also rotate mine every 5 thousand miles.

I think I have the same tires like ypu in my 2002 tundra and 250 k miles

Wonky edge wear is cupping. KO2s do the same, but far, far worse.

Never heard AT, tires. That loud. I've had Firestone, toyo. Both good. Good choice!

My 92 12 valve cummins will drownd out any tires on the market

Thanks for posting this. There are not a lot of reviews out there on these tires. As luck would have it, I had researched these and 2 other tires for the last month and I ended up ordering a set of Rubitreks this morning for my 2020 Tundra. They were also a better price (and hopefully value) compare to the Wildpeak A/T3's. PLEASE post updates of your experience with these tires as you put more and more mileage on them and as you try them in different weather conditions and terrain.

Hi. Fellow Tundra owner here. The increased noise from the tires was due to not rotating them. I try to rotate my tires every oil change. Every 5000 miles. 🙏🏻

10:55 man this is such a true feeling. It seems silly till you've experienced it personally! Anyways great review, I am a 1st gen owner myself but it is 2WD unmodified daily. I bought it with 76k, it has 98k now. I'm looking at these tires for my Jeep though, which takes all of the off-road abuse. Appreciate the time and effort you put into this video!

Not sure you will ever see this but one thing I noticed is common with both you and Tyler. The shop that (from what I could see) mounted your tires did so INCORRECTLY. The yellow paint spot is the manufacturer's indicator for the lightest point around the tire. This yellow mark SHOULD be mounted at the valve stem point. This is an aid for balancing.

Believe it or not, these tyres are sold in the UK as the ATW3A and they don't sell the North America ATW3 version here. The version here has the NA ATW3 sidewall, with the NA Rubitrek tread pattern. I am going to buy some for my Land Rover shortly once I have the smaller version of my OEM wheels.

I just finished watching 208Tyler then found your review. Will look into them. Most of time is driving to a campground then go off-road. I just want a good tire for trails and mild off-road. Not into the technical rock crawling stuff.

Cupping due to not rotating. If you do mostly city driving rotate every 5k-6k. Highway you can go as long as 10k per rotation. I use Discount Tire they rotate for free but they do charge for balancing.

Yes I had the Goodyear Auth in the LT265/75r16 C rated and they held up great but went to a Hankook ATM P tire as its a better street tire with some offroad ability. They were so smooth and quiet, truck felt like it had some get up and go again. 2018 Tacoma here.

I had GY Wrangler Territory on my Sierra, and same thing, I avoided driving my truck the cupping was so bad. I rotate every oil change (6K-7Kmi), but they cupped very quickly. Changed at 30K miles to Cooper AT3, and love my truck again. Might try the Falken next set.

Great review brother! The comparison is drastic! Looking at these tires myself. Or the new Wildpeak AT/4. Amazing how much difference a set of tires make on the driving experience. Tires are the only thing making contact with the ground attached to the vehicle, so yeah pretty important! Haha

The noise is clearly a result of not rotating tires and/or unequal brake pressure between tires. Any tire, especially traction tires, will do the same if treated that way.

That's an awesome truck. I've got a 2007 FJ and just installed Rubitreks. they feel great. I had wildpeak at3s..solid tire, but my truck is a paven maven. And the Rubs are 40 bucks less per tire.

I've been using these for a year or two on my Montero and have been happy with them in all conditions. I have 31" LT tires and they had a ton of tread, and a harder compound that the P tires so they still have a long while to go.

Sharp truck man. I've witnessed this from many Goodyear A/T style tires and esp from their MT's. noisy and even noisier when they start to wear. Never been a fan of GY tires bc of this. I've owned many styles over the years and never had a L/T style or any A/T tire sound like that with wear. Your tires looked feathered but shesh that roaring is next level. Been looking at the Rubitreks, you may have sold me for my next set!

Michelin ltx all day for noise and traction. Had a tacoma which is basically your truck shrunk 25%. Drove a tundra and was like this is all the same just slightly bigger.

I drove a gen1 Tundra exactly like yours for 18 years. Best vehicle I've ever owned. Looking to maybe put these tires on my 2020 Taco.

How are they holding up? Trying to chose between the fallen rubitreks or cooper rugged treks

Man when i put my new wranglers on i too thought the truck didnt coast like it did. Almost as if there was a brake caliper sticking. I was like man am i imagining this sht lol. Na, definitely a difference in how easily they roll. Bit of a bummer as i dont like my truck working harder than it needs to, but is what it is.

Hope the Falken's work out for you Sal. I have a set of Falken AT3W's and I'm not impressed! Thread wore out super quick. Still have them though cause tires are expensive nowadays. Need to get my money out of them lol. Your Goodyear's sound like a flat tire with the windows down lol. Keep up the good videos

Liked the video. But confusing since your compare the Goodyears after them being 40k miles already to a brand new tire. Not sure how that compares. It’s like used tire with 40k miles vs brand new tire. Of course the brand new tire is going to feel better. Would like an update when the tires get to 40k miles then compare them.

Been on the fence between buying a set of Falken Rubitreks or Nitto Recon grapplers. After seeing this video and listening to the info you've shared I'm going to order a set of rubitreks. Seems like the best option for mostly driving on-road with the occasional off-road adventure. Thanks for the info!

Definitely not gonna copy the rims and tires and act confused if someone points it out that it looks like yours

I don’t think people talk about nitto terragrapplers but they are AT and are quiet and weren’t that expensive either

Nice video man! Got a 3rd gen Tacoma that I Offroad and have cooper rugged treks and love those as well, not too noisy or horrible gas mileage, but ordering a set of these to try out with my other set! Also live in Wisconsin so hopefully they do ok in snow!! Cheers!

The video tells the tale! I have the Kanati Armor Hog and I'm definitely looking for a better riding, quieter tire. This is more in line to my current lifestyle.

Traded in my 2006 Tundra for a new Tacoma in 2016, really miss that V8 except at the gas pump. In 2023 I replaced the crappy original stock tires on the Tacoma with the Rubitreks and upsized to 265/75R16, I couldn't find much info or reviews about the tires but the price was much less than all highly recommended tires. My wheels rarely leave the pavement except for a few miles of maintained logging roads to hunting camp. I really liked the way the Rubitreks look on my truck, aggressive but not ridiculous, I'm certainly no expert but the ride is quite, steering is responsive and stops are short. After a month I liked the Rubitreks so much I replaced the tires on the winter rims for the Taco with them and they did just fine in the snow this winter. After 10 months driving on these tires I'm still very pleased but only time will tell if I made the right decision.

Cupped tires (which is what you had) are also caused by bad shocks. Saw your other videos and saw you installed bilsteins not too long ago and you had those Goodyear for almost 40k? That was your problem. You struts

Thanks for the review! Looking really close at the Rubitreks and the Wildpeak AT3W. I live in the country and it is dirt and gravel road before you hit the freeway, so both on road and off road performance is vital. Currently running Cooper AT3, which is pretty good, just wanted something better like you said.

I have a BFgoodrich AT and one of my tires got a nail on the side wall and once that comes off that tire is done 🤦🏽‍♂️ I want new ones but the threads are good and I should just get another BFgoodrich tire 😬 mines are LT285/70R16 116/1130

Of course your Goodyears were louder They are actual AT tires, whereas the Falkens are really a street/road pattern. And yes, you do have to rotate tires regularly. My Goodyears are very quiet. Any a/t tire would sound like that after 40K w/o rotation.

Just got mine for my 04. So far they’ve good.

Hey Sal, I love watching your vids, even thou I drive a gen two 04 Tacoma many of your tips have helped me upgrade my truck, Now I'd like to pass on a cosmetic tip to you, a soft rub with a green scuff pad and some 2k gloss clear spray paint will make all of the black molding and trim on your truck look a whole lot better Bro. !!!

Yes, I believe the off road tread pattern and the noise they make might mean rotation a lot more often. Something i wouldn't probably do either. I like the look but honestly need the performance of highway tires. I hope there's a balance somewhere without spending 300+ dollars a tire. My 2018 Tundra came with Michelin tires that cost today 350.00 a tire it looks like.
