My hydra works perfectly. I pull a 28,000 trailer w/excavator. And the tunes I have give me like 100hp towing. And I don’t go over 1400 on get. Super chips is such a dirty tune. But it works. All he has to do is call PHP and they could explain it all to him.

@@charliebrozuski I still use my hydra to this day and it works for towing my trailer too. The only issue is after awhile it starts throwing codes and I have to plug it into the computer and reprogram it. About once every 2 years

Look into the BD Diesel brake loc exhaust brake. I got one installed on my 01 7.3. It helps so much coming down a mountain.

Nice bro. Honestly I would still recommend the hydra. Most people say they don’t have any issues with there’s and mine worked great for awhile. I might just need a new one but I still highly recommend it

I’d try DP Tuner. Love my custom tunes from him. Little smoke at hard take off but clears away fast. Normal take off I don’t see any smoke.

I've seen people buy trailers and put a slide in camper on them as a diy toy hauler. That would be sick because you could take the slide in camper off and use the trailer for hauling future projects. You could also build half the interior of an enclosed trailer as a living space

You should put some reinforcement legs on your hitch that extend up to your frame. I used arms from a tractors 3 point hitch.

How bout the quadzilla 8 pos tuner? Input on in my obs n it woke it up. Has 2 tow settings, 45hp n 60hp n u can tell a difference. $200 n about hr worth of work

Anybody had a hydra damage their engine? I'm considering a 1999 7.3 with a hydra. It's got a new oil pan, oil cooler, injectors, clutch, exhaust manifolds, and bellowed up pipes. They're asking 5500. It has no bed and needs some rust repair under the doors, but it's not bad enough for new rockers yet. I'm thinking this could be a decent buy for a farm truck. A buddy has a dually flat bed kicking around. I'm concerned the tuner may have damaged the engine and they are trying to dump it. Haven't driven out to see it yet, as it's pretty deep into NH.

Just so you know bud, after posting this video a lot of people told me to try removing all my tunes from the hydra and redownloading them and it totally fixed my problem. That being said I DO recommend the hydra over the superchips. Even before I fixed it, I still would have recommended you go with the hydra. Also, I’m not sure the height right now but I’ll measure it when I get the chance and let you know!

Maybe try re downloading the tunes on the hydra and make sure it’s got tunes for the right pcm code

That’s a good idea. I’m positive it’s for the right pcm code. The hydra worked just fine for about a year before it started giving me issues

@Campos Vazquez no problem. They illegal if you live in California. But you can still find little shops that will mail them out. They also have a egt probe for them too. My sct probe only lasted about 4 months tho and they wouldn't warranty it. The tuner is good. I used it on my 6.0 powerstroke also.

First off, Sorry you had issues with the Hydra. People will have a problem with a Hydra due to a poor connection between the chip and PCM, I am very lucky that PHP is local for me so both of my trucks I stopped by their shop and they installed my chips, they also soldered the PCM so I would get a good connection. On getting a toy hauler I wouldn't go super huge or heavy with that much of a drop in the hitch, also contact Etrailer they will have a 7 way wire harness that will plug right into the factory harness, you should be able to see a grey plug near the rear of the frame on the driver side.

Yeah I’m thinks about just getting like a 25’ camper or toy hauler, nothing crazy. And I didn’t know that about the trailer plug. I’ll have to check it out. I did have the 7-pin plug before and have the wires taped up, so just a matter of rewiring a new plug🤘🏻 as far as the hydra connection, I know I got all the silicone off the pcm connection point and the hydra plugs in nice and tight with no play so I don’t think it’s a poor connection problem, but it could be.

Hey man! You need to get custom tunes ASAP! California is cracking down on tuners. You can't buy jelibuilt or 1023 tunes anymore. I would look into SDK tunes or Gearhead tunes. Im lucky I got my 1023 tunes when I did.

Burnt my pcm with a hydra. Looking for a programmable tuner. Something I can plug into the obd port. Was looking at the flashpaq f5 superchip but I can't find where it says it's programmable with custom tunes. Does anyone know?

Pretty sure it’s the superchips 1705. It’s in my glovebox and my truck is in the shop right now, but It’s definitely not CA carb. Lol

Also, I talked about it in another video, but I removed all the tunes from my hydra and redowloaded them and then reinstalled the hydra and haven’t had any problems since. So I’m still currently running the hydra, not the superchips.
