Covid is a threat, but Freedom is the biggest threat. I have friends who escaped from a Communist Country almost 50 years ago and they say that everything that is happening is the playbook from that time long ago. We must stay strong and be ready to stand for Freedom. Being informed is empowering and that is in all ways. Stocking pantry's is a must, but there is so much for to it. I pray for our Country. Lisa, you presented this video beautifully. God Bless.
alaskajax2- Well... I wonder what do you mean by "stand for freedom"? While I totally understand Communist regime, I disagree with the statement of "..is the playbook from that time long ago". (It's not even close! ) If all governments acted quickly, and had implemented a Marshal Law from the very beginning, we wouldn't have this wide spread infection. But no... People are so hung-up on this "freedom" B.S, they don't even know the meaning if it. So...here we are! Those that comply , suffer because of those, who spread this crap because of their belief in the "right of freedom".
We are in for a “dark winter”. We will face challenges we have never seen in our lifetime. We all have to hyper vigilant and prepare as best we can. Look out for your neighbor and be kind and helpful. Pray for the Lords protection.
My Hubs was laid off in early August. To put groceries on the table he took a 30% pay cut (and the new job has no insurance benefits). The resulting hits to our budget have made for a very challenging fall and Holidays. I have to thank the Good Lord Almighty that we A) have our farm paid off, B) Have a lot of old-time skills that we practice constantly to keep sharp, and C) Know the Lord and how this story ends. I truly pity the ones who either don't know Him or don't believe in Him. How do people get along without faith?... **One thing I would suggest is that if you are a crafter (knit, crochet, sew, paint, etc,...) if at all possible within your budget, try to set aside some extra supplies. I have been doing that over the past few years (I knew something bad was coming years ago), and one thing that has helped me stay sane being locked away here at the house this past year is my hobbies. For me it's very therapeutic to sit down with my knitting, or sew a few seams, or paint a colorful abstract. It takes me away from everything for a while, and I really need that. If you don't have a hobby, maybe now is the time to find one.
I do have several skills and hobbies, but at the beginning of this, thinking I might be locked down for a long time, I bought some watercolor supplies, in order to teach myself something new. In the end, my job was declared essential, and I have been working the whole time (thank God) but I haven't touched the paints. They are there if I get the chance, though.
Those crafter skills are essential for even more than stress relief! I'm making crocheted rugs for my girls for Christmas & knitted stocking caps for grandkids & donating to our church mitten tree. Things could get desperate enough that 'warm' garments will be in high demand! To relieve some stress AND have some wonderful gifts & barter items; just an all around Blessing from God!! Buy the way I had plenty of yarn in my stash for all of it! And my stash hasn't dwindled much! 😉
Maybe they really never learned about the recession or depression in school, I know they have dummied down the school systems, and the average college student has a 9th grade reading level at best. Most think of all that is going on a propaganda from the government. To me that is really sad, for them to believe that there are other forces playing here. I am not saying there is, but I know first hand this virus is REAL. The generations of this era are so lost, they need help. They need to be educated on what is really going on with this world.
I work in the education system. I’m surrounded by intelligent, “educated” people and they’re completely oblivious. They’re so obsessed with the covid numbers and who is and isn’t wearing their mask, they can’t see anything else.
I have realised, very few people are oblivious, they are deniers in the same way as almost all humans deny internally that they will die one day, that overeating is the cause of their weight problem, that things that happen to them are sometimes of their own making, etc. Humans are somehow programmed to deny things they don't like or don't feel able to cope with. Even if their favored political or religious leaders told them prepping was essential, they would struggle to actually do it.
I would not be surprised at all if the US loses its treasury reserve standing before the end of 2021 given what is being proposed as far as taxes, treaties, and regulatory action ~ following a year of lockdown, bankruptcies, millions facing eviction (with or without moratoriums), and the crazy amount of debt that was added. If you don't have books (real, paper books) on gardening, how-to, DIY, etc. now is the time to get them. The same goes for supplies that go beyond stocking and stacking. Get some raw materials for repairs, building, etc. if at all possible. Invest what you can in non-electric tools for the workshop and your kitchen. Redundancy is a good thing in all areas at this point. I wish I could be more optimistic ~ stay safe everyone!
I started to get the feeling something wasnt right about 5 years ago. it has been a gradual decline but this year it really did escilate rapidly. I strarted growing food in containers last spring and it was a huge success. I am buying solar panels for phones and gadgets ect. Buy books on growing food, stock pasta and rice like it will be gone next year. but DONT tell anyone you are doing it.
Months and months ago, someone interviewed DeBlasio about real estate in NYC. Residential real estate and commercial real estate expected to have huge foreclosure rates. And DeBlasio said the city would buy up the foreclosures. So you see the rich get richer, government get more powerful, and we the people bend over and take it.
Might be a good idea for people with work sponsored health insurance to het checkups or dental worh or vision or hearing checks done as soon as possible, that way if they lose their jobs their health needs are taken care of already
Just this week, a man and woman in their mid-40s broke into a home in a rural area and stole-not the big screen-food! From the freezer, fridge and pantry. How desperate.must you be to risk getting shot. I fear it’s going to be bad,
Looking back on 2020 I feel like many people were learning life lessons that no one was expecting in every aspect of our lives. My hope for 2021 is folks will remember back on what they faced and learned from those experiences. I do fear 2021 will bring untold struggles for everyone in our country. For my husband and myself the biggest struggle was emotional. Worry about our adult children, our grandkids, friends, neighbors, and our country. We have been focusing on kindness these days. Little things like looking the people in the eye who are keeping grocery carts clean and saying thank you, store clerks, our mail lady, anyone who is providing a service to us so our lives are a little easier need to be recognized and thanked. Try to be a little light in the dark winter we will all be up against
My family is making homemade gifts this year. But I did splurge on those 5 paks of Bath and Body Works hand sanitizers to hang on my "Cookies in a Jar" gifts! 🎁
2020 we lost a lot of family and friends this year, and it wasn't covid-19. My family was prepared for hard times. My sister who passed away last January had stocked up so if she passed away her family was prepared for a year.
Wow! That was her last act of love she left them with. I'm a bit weepy over that. I'm so sorry you had to say goodbye to so many. Your sister sounds amazing.
Yes you are right, we are in "it" for the long haul. There are so many things going on all at once, each impacting us differently but still all big! I am a survivor. I taught my children to be survivors. One is building their pantry inventory and one isn't so I am for their family as best I can here at my home. They are in denial, big time! I live on a limited income so do what I can. I believe a lot of people are going to come down from the clouds with a huge thud! My heart hurts for them and I truly hope that they have family who can help them! We live in a society of spoiled people. Everything is now, no waiting, no learned patience. It's about to become a rude awakening. I've tried to plan for scenarios. I've done the best I can. Leaving the rest up to the Lord, as we are supposed to do. God bless all of you!! 🙏❤
I’m doing great thanks to you and your friends! My husband and I are helping to feed 3 families... and we were fortunate enough to hire a monthly house cleaner and hire someone to teach our son piano. This is how we are helping. We are planting extra this coming year so we can get these families more fresh food. The food bank doesn’t get everything these people need.
Thank you, for coming out with this. I realized, during the summer that we were probably in for the long haul. I canned many quarts of soups and put them on the pantry shelves. Every time I open one, I put $1.50 into an envelope. I did not pay for the lentils, beans, carrots, or onions that I used. I made a lot of salsa that can be used in many ways. My usual jars of tomato sauce, pickles, jams, and jellies are on the shelves. If I am able to obtain meats or poultry, I cook up and freeze in meal sized portions so there is no waste. Since heating and electricity are huge expenses for me, I try to stay in one or two rooms using daylight as much as possible. Robes with nightgowns, and three blankets have helped to keep me warm at night, but did you realize that taking a really hot shower right before donning these bedclothes can help your body stay warm for several hours? I blocked all doors with folded towels or mats to eliminate as many drafts as possible. When you proof bread, do it on top of the fridge. Warm air circulates from the compressors, and the proofing process is much quicker. You won’t have to use the light in your oven, or a heating pad, and it won’t matter if the house is cold. If you have ceiling fixtures with multiple lightbulbs, unscrew two. It makes a difference. Never run your oven with only one thing in it. Plan, so you can load it up and avoid heating it repeatedly. If you are warming leftovers, don’t heat your whole oven. Use a pot filled with boiling water, and invert a lid over it. Put the food there, cover it, and it will warm by steam in a jiffy. Knit and crochet. There are always good deals on yarn, and you can make some nice afghans...perhaps even sell them. It isn’t too early to start thinking about seeds you can plant in the spring to give you a vegetable and herb harvest. I only have a small back porch, but I put containers on my railings, plenty of pots on the porch, and grow garlic, potatoes, horseradish root, leeks, rosemary, basil, thyme, oregano, stevia, parsley, cilantro, celery, romaine lettuce, and will be adding more this year. You can order gardening supplies from Home Depot, farm and fleet, ace hardware, and amazon, but beware, because amazon isn’t always the cheapest choice. Go through your pantry and see what you can prepare now against future meals, and free up space for items still in supply at a good price. Order a 3 month supply of medication because it will come out cheaper and you will avoid hearing that something is on backorder. Decide now, that you will go to bed an hour earlier every night while it is getting dark so early. I am on a limited income, and I am physically handicapped with many medical challenges. Keep the faith knowing that this WILL end, that we will all get back to a new normal, and that we will always be there for each other.
Thank you for all of the sound advice. I totally agree with you about 2021. I recently revived my canning skills and am stocking my pantry. My husband has converted two clothes closets into small pantries. I’ve been following you for since last July and have learned so much from you. I appreciate your candidness.
True. It's going to be here for a while for sure. Even if COVID-19 meracously went away there's still going to be a lengthy recovery time. Having a well stocked pantry and enough supplies deffinately provides peace of mind.
Completely awesome video. Thank you very much for being serious yet calm, for not being political, just for sounding like someone that I wish was my next door neighbor and friend. Merry Christmas to you and all of yours.
Very wise words, Leisa. I agree with you completely. I fear that once the holidays and the inauguration are behind us and the excitement about the vaccine has died down and people realize it's not a "quick fix," reality is going to sink in on a deeper level and we are in for a very dark time, especially financially. I pray I'm wrong, but that is what my gut is telling me. We need more people to say what you said in this video so we don't become complacent and we continue to prepare for difficult times. I love your channel - I've learned so much from you. Keep doing what you're doing. We need your kind of common sense wisdom.
Good Evening, I had a dream last night that there were so many homeless that there were camps in people's yards. Because there was no where else for them to go. I thank God for what I have, and my focus for 2021 will be on others. Yes I will still stock my pantry and do as much as I can for others. I pray that a day like that never comes. Stay safe and bless you all.🙏
I'm truly blessed in the fact that I come from Generation X. Raised by Boomers & surrounded by people that not only lived but survived the great depression. I watched & learned. I listened. Sadly I'm in a situation where we might be foreclosed on. We are fighting through that now. But with that said, I'm still stocking and planning for the future. I'm just doing so on a smaller scale. My department has been dissolved. I will be transferring to another department. Point being nothing is permanent. We must adapt to change! We MUST to survive! Thank you for being real & for not being a fear mongering blabbering nincompoop. Love your channel & content.
My mother often talked about her growing up years ( born in 39). They were poor and one grandmother lived with them. She was more than familiar with depression era survival. I learned a lot about making do from her, my dad and my grandparents. I'm very thankful for that and I hope I've taught enough to my children.
Very good point, be prepared and not scared. Recent finds at Walmart to stock up dry goods, Walmart pricing: 20 lbs. bag rice $7.39 20 lbs. dried pintos $14.46 25 pounds flour $5.18 25 pounds sugar $9.00 now 11-3-2020 is $11.78 26 oz. box Walmart salt 40 cents 10 lbs. Perdue Chicken Legs quarters $5.98 for the freezer. Add the dry goods to five pound buckets and lids for stackable storage. and don’t forget to stock up on baking yeast for bread, bottled water. Bear Creek brand or store brand dry soup, chili mixes are good shelf stable items and stock up on canned tuna.
This country is being put the the test. We need to support one another in all things. Our way of life is in jeopardy. Supplies can not be made while under this pandemic quarantine. What supplies that are available now may not be available tomorrow. A prudent person will stock up on those supplies that they feel that they will need should the supply grid fail or breakdown. This is a strong possibility and more than likely long lasting. If you can your foods then do so. If you are new, watch and learn. Ask questions and don't be afraid to ask for help or assistance. On this channel you will find that there are many that will help you. If you can when Spring comes, grow your own vegetables. It doesn't matter what you grow as long as you can use them or trade them for something that someone else grows. By growing your own food you help the system by easing the demand. It may be a small amount to you; but, when you compound this by hundreds of thousands of people you will see that we can put a dent in our need for food. Your Grandparents or great grandparents remember Victory Gardens. During WWII this help easy the civilian demand for needed food that was needed for the war effort. If we do this again then our food supply chain won't bend or break. Remember, stay safe by wearing a mask. Keep a safe distance of 6 feet. And wash your hands frequently. Not only are you protecting others, you are also protecting yourself.
I totally agree I was brought my 3 granddaughters before Thanksgiving so it's already hitting home but I know the girls are fed and taken care of. God Bless Praying for others
Buy seeds to grow food this summer. Historical economic depression does not recover quickly. Realistically more like 5 years. Talk to someone who went through the depression.
@@penelopepenobscot4475 that’s awesome. We have about 130 seed packets. I found an awesome container at Walmart in the craft section. It looks like a small ammo can, it’s plastic with a rubber seal. The got the teal to cut down on the light, $5! I also got an extra one and 4x6” brown envelope to save seeds in. I got as many heirloom and organic seeds as I could find, but if regular seeds is all you can get, get them!
My husband is a roofing supervisor and was talking with the homeowner about gardening. She apparently has a business selling seeds online. She gave him a package before he left with a whole bunch of seeds for our kids. My nine year old said "its like Christmas but with seeds!"
I never comment on any other site that I visit, but you are always so calm and practical in teaching us about life skills that were almost lost to this generation.. I am so grateful that you have brought up this topic because I have been concerned about these issues. I started canning a few years ago as a hobby to make jams for my family. I knew nothing about canning or dehydrating, or anything! Now I am prepping for ...something...and you are a wonderful and responsible guide. Thank you for all you have taught us
my christmas present to my family is filling the pantry and the freezer . vaccumm sealed 40 lbs of chicken today . after christmas going to looking for a pressure canner . so i am able to can some of the chicken , and beef, and venison in the freezer have my veggies canned from the garden and been trying to dehydrate fruit . my pantry is a running working pantry . use 1 replace one or two . whatever money permits
We were going to downsize our home. Decided to keep the big house because I think some of my family will need a place to live if crap continues to hit the middle class hard working Americans. Look after family, that’s what is important. Donate pet food to the food banks, include cat litter if you can.
Your programs are wonderful. I love all the videos RU-vid is my new best friend. I'm almost 82 ,a widow, on a limited budget, I got $15 in food stamps. I have been getting more that I can use But I have been buying case goods and canning and having a blast . Watching all the women canning. My mother gave me her pressure canner and have canned over the years ,made pickles canned fish etc . I have bought half gallon jars to store things in . I'll be well stocked .this is long but I just LOVE these videos thank you soso much
Plan to consolidate living spaces, such as adding roommates or adding family under one roof. This can help with expenses like rent. Even if you don’t want to do this, setting up some groundwork for it now in case it’s needs later should be less stressful in the long run. Also, start talking with creditors to work out payment plans, and reduce expenses as much as possible. If you can, buy in bulk with others for groceries and household needs. Cut cleaning supply costs by using vinegar and other home made solutions.
Thank you for this video! I agree with you wholeheartedly that times are going to be rough for a while. I won’t become complacent and I try to be an example to my family members to do the same. I decided I sent out a mass text to say that I wasn’t going to be giving Christmas presents out this year. Really breaks my heart. And I told my family members to add to their preparation for the coming year that it’s very important and I don’t need presents I need them to be ready for anything that comes our way. I had to not be emotional. Being practical is against my nature. But they knew I’ve been prepping and I would say I’m doing a pretty good job. I feel I have set an example because I see the rest of my family members not all of them but a lot of them stocking up on food and supplies.I told them my major concern was the grid going down but that many things could happen and we need food and water to sustain ourselves possibly for a long period of time. Thank you again for this video I love your videos they’re very uplifting! Bless you!
Thankfully, our state, Alabama, is open and the governor has assured us she will Not shutdown the state again. We are doing ok so far. There were shortages at the beginning of the year and again I'm seen some shortages but not too bad.
Just found you tonight. Really enjoyed your video and thoughts. Most of my friends think I am a little over the edge when I talk about putting food away for the future. I explained why I felt it is extremely important..blank looks.... I don't mention it anymore. My daughter is preparing for her family and I am so thankful for that. There is nothing lost by doing so and there is so much to possibly gain..like peace of mind and food security for starters.😊.
Surreal would be the single word I would use to describe 2020. But I agree, 2021 will be challenging, to say the least. Look out for your local communities and stick together. My wife is increasing her hen flock by 50 birds here on our farm, so she has more eggs to give away. She doesn’t sell them and gives them away first come, first serve. She really loves the hobby. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year!
Get a real job...lol... I'm a career waitress... retired... I loved restaurant work and did it for over 30 years... I made great money. So happy I'm not counting on it now though. After I retired I took up canning as a hobby??? Ha! Nope it quickly became my lifestyle 😸.. how fortunate for us. Leisa I love your channel... I have learned so much...thanks for all you do.
I loved restaurant business. I waitressed many years and later became a general manager for Golden Corral. So nice to have that core group of people to become a family with yet meet new people on a daily basis. It has also really helped me be a better Prepper. I inventory, FIFO rotate, and look for sales to restock.
The malicious horrible people are with world economic forum, international monetary fund, agenda 2030, etc etc We do have to step up and be a conduit of good for others in 2021. Be a blessing to others and God will do some impossible things to keep you blessed.
I totally agree with your assessment of our situation. You are a wise & compassionate woman. We must all stay alert, continue to prepare, & be prepared to help family & neighbors, who are still (unbelievably!) unaware. We need to keep discussing this vital topic. Godspeed to us all!!
I’m near Grand Rapids and there are many homeless people living in tents in a park here. Authorities are scrambling to open buildings and provide space for these people. More people than ever are finding themselves at food banks. Less volunteers than before due to restrictions. Human spirit seems to be thriving. More people are checking on their elderly or shut in neighbors. Temporary and “odd jobs” are offered, just to help for now. Being prepared and having a plan is a necessity, now and for years to come. Thanks for providing your wisdom!
You express a constructive overview, I hear you as genuine, in light of encouraging your viewers. The wisdom in your friendly messege, in my reception to your observant recommendations, is for persons to keep their individual balance during these up and down conditions about our daily livelihoods. A steady, ready, disposition, is beneficial. I appreciate your worded delivery all about living a practical positive manner. Sincerely, Beth Michaud in North West Montana
I'm retiring in May from a Teachers aide job. I have a pension which is half my pay. I have acute knee arthritis in both knees and can't do my job any more. I have been preparing for this by paying off my credit cards. I am scared I am 1 year away from collecting social security, but I am a veteran and have most of my medical paid for I only pay $130 a month on meds. Hubby and I will be o.k. for that one year of me only making half my pay. I just want to keep everyone else in my prayers and thoughts and thank you for teaching us to Canuary I can't wait
During the rainy season, I keep shower curtain liners in my car for if I see homeless people in the rain. They are large, pvc waterproof, have grommets.. and are only a dollar at Walmart or Dollar Tree! I keep blankets in my car for emergencies, but I end up giving them away! I need to find a cheap place to buy basic blankets! :/
2020 has been such a hard year and I agree, I have a nagging feeling that 2021 is not going to get better. I am hoping that it just doesn’t get worse. But I can’t help feeling it is going to be far harder than 2020.
I will be worse. The governments around the world have said as much. They says: Biblical Famine, more disease, worse weather, less water. Steel yourself. Read about what others did during hardships, such as WW2, The Great Depression, pioneer life, Medieval times, and know that there is an end from all this, somewhere.
@@cookiemama4 I lived for 12 years without running water or electric power or a generator. Everything, including farming hay was done by horses or manpower. I would go and collect grain, by hand, from the bottom of the silos, for my chickens. I don't worry about the coming times, except for the tyranny placed upon the peoples heads. (killings and such).
I totally agree. I retired 2 months ago from healthcare. Glad I did. Glad I listened to channels like yours and prepped and will continue. Have 2 adult children at home who cant find jobs so I need those preps and continue to tell extended family to prepare. Thanks for your inspiration.
I do not expect life to ever go back to normal, the way it was last year. I expect things to continually and gradually become worse and worse over time. What we saw in 2020 it is just the beginning of a downhill spiral. Definitely be prepared for a crisis.
I also think 2021 will be worse than this year has been! It will be the domino effect you mentioned. I live in what one might consider rural but more like a suburb area with 3+acres. We are now seeing lots of burglaries even in daytime areas. Gone up 300 % in the last month. I am 73 and live alone but this is the thing I worry about most. Use a wheelchair so I'm limited in what I could do. But, having said that, I continue to prep! I also am afraid to use my preps in case I need them later lol God bless everyone in this community! Keep your chin up
I did not come from a wealthy family and I did not marry a wealthy man, however we live a good, but simple life on a small farm with our only routine expenses being utilities. My grandfather bought 25 acres with a barn and chicken coop in the fall of 1941. The family moved to the farm, the barn was for the livestock, the family lived in the chicken coop. Imagine living in a chicken coop, in winter, in Michigan. They all survived. All I can tell anyone is to save your $$, don't waste it. Look for bargains wherever you can and stock the pantry, find a good water source, hold your family and friends close.
Great point of view. Thank you for the topic and insight of ideas to consider. You have reached so many people through these videos keep calm stay strong be blessed.
In my younger years, I was an optimist. I think most people are. As I got older ( I'm 53 now ), I'm more of a realist. I stay positive, but I understand life is not always sunshine. Winter starts Dec. 21st, though it seems to be already here. Suttons Daze, you are right about the domino effect. What we do, or what we don't do, effects us so much.
Leisa thank you so much. You are one of Gods prophets to take time to talk to us like a big sister. We know that. Situation but we are scared and look to someone sincere like you caring for for your fellow man to talk and comfort to advise ,to be alert, to be prepared. Thank you
I've not wanted to say it out loud, but I agree with you. I do not believe 2021 is going to be any better. I believe we'll see a new set of issues that will dovetail off of 2020. In our former home town, today I got word that over 180 people are being evicted and foreclosed on. It's a small coastal town on the east coast. A true tourist town. That should explain a lot. :( Doesn't sound like a lot, but that's over 180 families now in a crisis. Perhaps the best thing to do is spend on absolute needs, not on wants.
I am reading through these very sincere comments and my heart goes out to all. I don’t know what is coming, all I know is that we live moment to moment and do not know if the next might be our last. Today is Friday, Dec 18. Let me tell you all, the election IS NOT OVER. Maybe most of you do not follow news sources other than the main channels and are not getting all the information( I’m retired and have the opportunity to seek out alternate sources ) we still have a Constitution and a President who is following the avenues granted to a President in an election situation such as this has turned out to be. I am not posting this to be political but to offer hope and to say we have until the 20th of January. I believe we will see something very large. Stay alert. Keep prepping. Keep praying. Do for others as much as you can. This is the exact time we should be exercising our faith and not loosing it to despair. Remain hopeful. Also, I have fears and concerns as much as anyone else. This site has been especially helpful for me in learning canning and prepping skills and I have been on a binge. Thank you so very much Leisa. You perform a Godly work. ❤️
I was discouraged to read here that dry pet food doesn't last all that long, due to the fat content. I didn't go crazy, but I had stocked up a bit. I can't find an x-date on the bag, but I will have to sniff carefully as I use it.
Agree! We can't become complacent now, we are still in it for the long haul. This year has been a challenge for sure. I have learned a lot of good lessons though about uping my prep game, learning to do more with less, not taking anything for granted and being thankful for what we do have. We are stronger than we know and we will get through this with our community supporting each other. Thank you for putting this out there!!
Once again, great advice - not just the reminder to keep up the pantry/food storage, but also to not bury ourselves in the news (but stay informed). I stopped watching news months ago and switched to a few news apps & RU-vid channels - you can see the headlines (and that's often enough info) or open & read an article or view a news clip as suits your needs/interests ...less stress, less 'drama', but I'm still up-to-date on current events (in case it might prompt me to take further action). Stay well, stay prepared all.
My better half is an injured vet after a 9 and a half year service of what was supposed to be a lifetime career. Afghanistan took that. I'm his full time caregiver as well as we're raising 4 kids with our rainbow baby on the way. Times are scary and I can't work out of the house. I have been trying to do the best with what we have to get a garden put together this year and make our own food but I can only dehydrate as we don't have a canner or jars. With all that said I also ensure 2 families that are our neighbors are also eating. We may only eat game and beans but it's good food. Our house fire took all the preps we had so there's that too
I have been employed by my State's Hardest Hit Program which began back after the housing crash in 2008. We are now almost out of the funding and I may be unemployed in 2021 unless we get more funding. You are so right in everything you say! I have been stocking my pantry in the event my job may end. We have people calling everyday needing help on their mortgage due to unemployment. People need to plan for things and prepare. Yes, we are too dependent on technology. You have great tips and I hope people will listen to you! Thank you for this video!!!!
I heard someone refer to 2020 as a trash fire of a year....yeah I agree, great term 🤬 everyone hang in there, work as hard and as often as you can, help a neighbor/friend/ family member with whatever your capable of doing. Be diligent and stay healthy and well everyone!💗
You have a road in your area named "Poor farm road", a reminder on how things were in Northeastern Michigan many years ago. In Alpena County, the county had a poor farm there during the Great Depression. It was a farm where poor folks could go to work together and provide food on the table for themselves. For many of our neighbors in our community, it's going to be a very hard winter.
Interesting! Being a Michigander, I never heard that story. Kind of gives us hope for caring and sharing. I pray we get through all that is ahead and rise to be stronger and wiser people.
I agree 2021 is going to get worse. I continue to do what I've been doing stocking, mending instead of buying new, making my own instead of buying new and focusing on keeping my budget in line continue canning and bought canning lids from different sources so I'm not dependent on Ball anymore, keeping track of my inventory, never saying No when someone has excess food they don't want from food pantries ( I now get calls when this happens just picked up 2 huge boxes of food this week) I don't get why this particular person with 5 children isn't stocking up there were cans of vegetables, bags of potatoes, apples, peanut butter etc but I took it all and what I couldn't use I shared with a neighbor. Onions I will be dehydrating. I learned this month how to make candies that use shelf stable ingredients like 2 minute fudge life isn't just nutrition but satisfying the soul too. I hope this all makes sense. Anna In Ohio
While watching you I'm cutting up 2 loaves of day old bread to dry. When it's dry I'll run it through my grinder and have bread crumbs ready for meat loaf, meat balls & breading for chicken, fish etc. Can do so much with it!! Small way to make a big difference!
Excellent message! Thank you for sharing. Praying that the new year is better, but continuing to prepare as though 2020 was just the test run. Something I have started doing just recently is writing the date items were purchased directly on the item, then write the date when it's opened and finally noting the date it is used up in a notebook. I tried this before with just using a notebook but would always forget (FAIL) to follow through. This has helped me to better shop the sales. It gives me a better projection of how long things will last instead of the 'ole "got lots of this" and then forget about it until it's low or gone and then paying full price. Having the dates front & center is the reminder I needed to ensure I followed through.
Thank you for addressing this. It was me that was asking you the question whether I should retire or not. My house is not paid for yet but my retirement from the school system will pay for my house payment. My concern was, is my retirement safe and protected? I’m not going to get on some political discussion but that’s where my concern lies. So I’ve just heard a lot of things and I just want to make sure my retirement is secure so it’ll pay for my house payment. Thank you so much for addressing my question. I will continue to build my pantry and encourage my family to do the same. Thank you for all that you do and all the great information that you give to all of us.
I'm sure as a union person you voted Democrat. You'd have to ask them just how secure your retirement is. I mean... they asked for Union votes... so do they deliver.... don't know. Fingers crossed.
@@daviddionne8296 not everyone who is a teacher votes the way the union demands. I certainly didn't. In the state of Delaware, they require you pay dues to the union even if you don't want to be a part of it. Their argument is that the union negotiates on your behalf which is total crap but thats how it is there. Your response was rather aggressive, and, more importantly, not helpful.
Terry, they say your retirement is safe, but were I you, I would either work as long as I possibly could as a teacher (I had a total breakdown after 8 years in the machine, but you might be okay) and pay off my house as fast as possible. Or I would retire from teaching and get a different job that might not pa y as much but with your retirement, you could pay off your loan quickly. My goal would be throwing every dime at paying off my house. My mom always said that if you have your house paid off, they can turn off the electricity but you will have a roof over your head (excepting taxes of course)
@@kempfreehold9450 That’s really good advice, to pay off the mortgage. I have 24 years left to pay on it and I know throwing money into that loan would really help but I’m wanting to help my daughter with her baby so she can work. She teaches at a college so I’m just going to be her nanny. I will definitely have to give it some more thought. Thank you for your ideas.
@@kempfreehold9450 I understand. I'm retired Professional Firefighter. Our Union dumped huge amounts for Biden. They like to promise pension plans they have no way of funding ignorer to secure our votes. Sad.
Bless you! Your calm warnings are heeded. I am in the middle of a cross country move to be closer to my grandkids. I need to know they will be safe, fed, & taken care of - I think they will need help. There are many unknowns in the year/s ahead and I'm trying not to borrow worry, but be prepared for them. I want to thank you for sharing your canning knowledge, I got brave enough to pressure can this year because of you! Stay safe. Merry Christmas.
I appreciate your calm and gentle approach to a very difficult subject. I personally believe that we should contact the oldest friends we have & ask them what things were like when they grew up.... without all the advantages and technology that we have now. We’re going to be living in those days again very soon
We all have Covid at our home three adults age, 71, 71 and 31. I must admit I have never been so sick except when my appendix ruptured. Do everything you can to avoid getting it.this is my 7th day. If you don’t have medicine for fever and drinks to stay hydrated, be sure to lay in a stock, now. My husband required two bags of IV fluid for dehydration.
This year has been challenging but I agree that 2021 will be more troublesome. I finish Radiation mid January and plan to stay home as much as possible. I retired at 50 and have and keep a stocked pantry...good thing.
I have to order online many things because of where I live. Amazon is not the only option though. Many stores have web sites and shipping now. We can order from smaller players. New years day is just significant to humans who make it significant. For the rest of life, it's just another day in an ongoing sequence.
I totally agree w everything you’re saying, so many things run through my mind a lot these days, I just feel really bad for those loosing so much in many ways. After Christmas I’m getting back on track w prepping more, garden things been in for a few months and got three rasied garden beds good size and will be planting and doing some starts, love my grow bags! Getting more, I’m in such a funk this Christmas holidays, we all need to support ea other and not have hate take over, I’ve cut down on my baking business this year because I deliver to places, also not knowing when it if I get supplies or use money to buy supplies for home, I’m busy on my time as I get older but this time of the year I’m swamped, it’s all just a hot mess😢
I agree with what you say. Started prepping this year. My boyfriend thought I was crazy but as the year progressed he has started to really get on board. I have a small farm and we raise dairy goats. I have been getting to be more self sufficient. My "real" job is being a fraud investigator for my employer. The credit card fraud had jumped so much since March. It's terrible and the thieves are getting smarter and smarter and we need to adjust the way we look at passwords and banking security. Stay safe. I love your channel.
My thinking is the food supply. I saw a few videos last year about wheat. One lady who plants/grows wheat on their farm said last year: “l am stocking up on wheat. We didn’t put any in the ground this year (2019).” She didn’t know what people thought was happening, but a grower herself was concerned. I so far don’t bake. I have noticed the breads we normally eat have fewer loaves on the shelves generally lately and the price is over $4. (More a specialty bread). For the first time this past year I bought some flour, sugar and yeast. I will be buying more as I try getting a basic wheat bread roll or loaf recipe down. I am generally concerned with food supply in general for say Fall time 2021. Not panicked, but thankful I am about to do a stock up run soon to have extras. We are also setting up our extra shelves to organize it all plus over counter meds and such. ❤️
An older lady friend of mine lives out of state she had a dream the other day that the medical stuff that people are battling went really bad and it took out a whole bunch of people. This is a friend that doesn't usually have the stuff happened and so she called me very concerned and was asking that people would lift up thoughts and prayers that what she saw does not happen
Agree with everything you said. Been in banking related career. Landlords and Mortgage people are in the same boat with tenants and homeowners. Always have a plan and preparation. Know the alternatives. We all have life skills and if not ....it's time to learn them.
My. Daughter said “what if 2020 is just the trailer for 2021?” She is evil! Being a small business owner, 2020 and 2021 has been a real challenge in so many ways!
Stock up on activated charcoal. Best detoxifier ever and will not absorb the good stuff. Over the past 4 years of health issues that were not being addressed by the Dr's in my area, had to discover this for myself. Detox, good food, water and rest and get out of the way and your body can heal. Medical expenses have basically robbed us all. Pantry prepped, books on natural medicines in the bookshelf. I'll be knitting and be the neighborhood apothecary.
I lost my mother this year, my Uncle passed away this year and neither was from covid. My brother in law is in hospice right now and not expected to make it past Christmas. Also not covid. I honestly don't expect 2021 to get any better as long as it keeps going the way it has. Like I've said already 2021 is going to make us wish 2020 never ended.
