The Apple Watch is the best selling watch in the world. The Apple Watch detected my A-fib so I could take care of my health. I love a mechanical watch , but the technology is outstanding. I am at 239 lbs Down 42 pounds. The Apple Watch is the 21st century modern take on a watch and other technology. It’s great to have both watches.

That’s what I do… I love traditional watches so wear those on my left hand and then my Apple Watch for tracking health metrics on my right… like you it does keep me mindful with regards to my health so for me it’s worth doing. Some people do comment on why I wear two watches and can look odd to others but I stopped caring about what other people think a long time ago. Stay healthy.

Hi Guy. Thank you so much for sharing your struggles. It's refreshing to see someone speaking openly about mental health issues. I think all of us watch obsessives have our own struggles and tenancies to overthink and get bogged down by our own minds. I've sold my expensive watches, and as you know was waiting for the Explorer. But at this point i think i need to fix other things. I need to sleep better. I am struggling with weight too and also was 220 pounds recently. 4 months ago i started the changes. I have cut down my sugar intake to almost nothing (sometimes i lose control but it's only on a rare occasion), i don't drink anything except water, tea and coffee, and sometimes milk. I've stopped fizzy sugared drinks and try to eat as much whole natural food as i can. Also have started doing daily fasts of around 12-14 hours. So I'll stop eating at say 7pm and won't eat again until 10am the next morning In 4 months i have got down to 207 pounds (94kg) so I'm feeling positive. I won't get to your weight, but aim to be at my old good weight that i haven't been for 10 years. I'm really glad you're trying My rolex dream is just a symptom of some unhappiness and personal struggle. I don't need a watch to fix me. Because it will not do that A good friend may offer me a very cheap omega de ville hour vision (the art deco one with a rhodium ring in the middle of the dial), it's the white dial version. Its 3 times cheaper that the Rolex, and i actually love omega more. I don't need anything more than that. I love watches and that omega will be amazing. The rest of my life will go on and watches are only a tiny factor to our happiness. So i think the point is that we need to be healthy and find happiness. It will not be through luxury watches. They can be a fun little hobby, but health, active lifestyle, sleeping well, connecting with people and being kind... those at the things that matter So yeah. Sorry for the ramble. I'm glad you're doing OK and have quit smoking. Be proud of it, like I'm proud for cutting out ultra processed food and sugar.... these are drugs... Go veg, go eggs, go fish, go porridge, go greek yogurt Go Omega P.s. forgot to add... Time in nature is a real healer And the book i used to help myself is called "feel great, lose weight"

I had the exact same experience. I lost more weight than I ever had after I got my Apple Watch last year. My mechanical watches were starting to feel abandoned, but I’ve found a way to have them both coexist now. Apple Watch for sleeping and exercising, mechanical watches for everything else.

Many people sh*t on Apple Watches like they do on Hublots because it’s a sport to do so. But when I wear my Apple Watch it reminds me to stand up every once in a while, it tracks my vital data, it lets me lock and unlock my car, it lets me lock and unlock my house, it lets me control my smart home, I can pay with it, it acts as an alarm clock, It makes me use my phone far less and many more practical stuff. I really like mine despite it being a computer rather than a watch. People should not see everything as black or white but enjoy cool stuff.

Here's the opinion no one asked for: Smartwatches are a meme. There is literally *_NOTHING_* a smartwatch can do that the phone in your pocket can't do already. Step counting, sleep tracking, dieting, messaging, time telling, and every other service a smartwatch offers (yes, even heart rate monitoring) is already built into your phone which, let's be honest, is either already in your pocket, or never more than one foot away from you. Smartwatches are a solution to a problem no one ever had, and they accomplish nothing above and beyond what a $50 Motorola can't. A phone completely removes the need to even wear a watch to tell time in the first place, but a watch with physical hands is at least widely accepted as jewelry. Therefore, a mechanical watch inarguably serves more purpose than a smartwatch, and I'll never be convinced otherwise. Smartwatches are the dumbest tech to ever come out, and people only flock to them because the tech world is stagnant. Full disclosure, I own a smartwatch (it was a gift), and I tried to pawn it a week ago. They wouldn't even lowball me. Didn't even consider making me an offer. F'k smartwatches. I still love your channel, and that animated Mickey watch dial is RAD. I love it.

Excellent video, Guy! I’ve had an Apple Watch since the very first version. I now have an Apple Watch Ultra and I really like it. I’ve gotten up to 60 hours of battery before needing to recharge (not using low power mode), plus it’s very durable. I agree with you that there should be room for mechanical, automatic, quartz, and smartwatches in our collections. It’s not an either/or. I have my mechanical watches and get a lot of enjoyment wearing them. I also enjoy wearing my Apple Watch. In addition to G-Shocks, Apple Watches, and smartwatches as a whole are 21st tool watches. They serve a purpose beyond the smartphone, especially when it comes to health tracking, e.g.,heart rate, sleep tracking, and blood oxygen monitoring. There are documented cases where lives were saved by wearing an Apple Watch. I truly love my traditional watches, but if I could only wear one watch it would be an Apple Watch. I know people say Apple Watches end up in landfills (you can recycle them), but think how many cheap Casios, , etc. have ended up in landfills over the decades when they stopped working. One more thing to think about, Apple Watches can be the gateway into a greater interest in mechanical watches.

I'm really glad you are working on improving your overall wellbeing, Guy! If the Apple Watch helps you with that, that's fantastic! For me, who works in IT, I find that I want less technology in my life. Less notifications, less tracking, less "smart devices", less noise and more simplicity. Mechanical watches work really well for that reason. Not to forget that it's one less device to charge and replace every few years! But it's definitely a personal choice and everyone should make for themselves! And totally - nobody said those two types of watches can not exist together.

Good for you! A few years back, I got a fitbit smartwatch and quit smoking after 42 years. I started walking, swining kettlebells 2x/week, and time-restriccted eating. I lost 60 lbs and kept it off. After about 4 years, I ditched the smartwatch and just use Google Fit on my phone to record my exercise. And I have gone back to a mechanical watch. The smartwatch did it's job in that it HELPED ME FORM NEW HABITS and so I retired it. Once a week or so I still wear it to bed to check on my sleep. But 90% of the time, I am back to the Seiko. I cannot recommend kettlebells enough. The explosive quality of the workout really does help with anxiety and maintaning upper body strength.

I am "doing the Schwarzkopf" with my Apple watch since forever. I have regular watch on the left wrist (mostly SEIKOs and Hamiltons), and the Apple Watch on the right. I am so used to this I don't even notice it anymore. By the way, the screen on the watch is "off", e.g. it does not light up if I raise the wrist, as that I consider a distraction. In fact, I never look at the Apple watch, except when I use it to precisely set my mechanical watches. I check my health stats on my iPhone, occasionally.

First of all, well done, and keeping going, great to hear your improving health! Health is the single most important thing in life, without it, nothing matters. Also fantastic that the watch helps, but I would say in the long run, try and forget about it, try to let your habits naturally become healthy, don't become reliant on it, as that would be another 'bad habit'. If you can find out for yourself why you want to stay fit, you won't need anything to help you but that why. For now though, stick to the watch, it's a great motivator and it's also very fun and cool to track your improvements.

Great video, this isn’t an either/or proposition. The Apple Watch has a utility for you, and that’s what it is important. I reckon it in its Ultra variant is in a practical sense more of a tool watch than any Rolex on sale right now. Granted, wearing Apple Watch can help you lower your blood pressure and stabilize your heart rate, whereas wearing your Rolex in public nowadays will probably make them go up. Will I buy an Apple Watch? I currently don’t have enough practical needs right now for me to justify getting one, but I’ll never say never.

A good summary Guy. In my humble opinion there is room for both traditional watches be them mechanical or otherwise along with a smart watch. I've had smart watches for a few years but always got fed up with the lack of a quick glance view of the time (needing an obvious twist of the wrist to wake the thing up, always on just drains the battery) combined with the need to daily charge them so like some others I use my smart watch to track my health and notifications on my right wrist but wear a 'watch' on my left for glancing at the time. I will always have a place on my left wrist for a watch but not always have a smart watch on my right wrist. My left wrist tells me the time but my right wrist gives me a view of the time that I have left. Many thanks for sharing.

My fear is that if I buy the Apple watch, I would not take it down my wrist ever. The only problem is charging the battery pretty often. I use a Garmin Instinct 2S watch for exercise. The Apple Watch is definitely more refined, but the Garmin's screen is always on, and you don't have to carry a charger on a long weekend because the battery lasts for 2 weeks or more if you don't use GPS much. Could it be my only watch? No, I don't wear the Garmin constantly, just for exercise, tracking steps, heart rate, distance, and speed. A Garmin (or an Apple Watch) are just too boring looking for me to wear during the day.

Apple watch usually has half year honeymoon time, when an apple watch owner is happily using health apps to track various activities. However the honeymoon time is over, the watch will be ended sitting at the table corner and eating dirt. The reason is very simple and reasonable, which is the smart device (not only apple watch) is very annoying. This kind of device is unsecure with potential to track and leak private data, also keeps annoying owner with daily charges, various alerts, security updates, various configuration etc. Therefore to a watch collector, any smart device will be treated as an electronic garbage after the expiration period, which could be one year and can be considered as a garbage to be thrown away due to its un-serviceability. This electronic garbage can not be treated as an artwork as a result. However a traditional watch is indeed a piece of artwork and can be used for a much longer time.
