@@andrethedias Akai MPC sampler was the thing in 90s. FL Studio was for later generations kind of "different same" so to speak (cheapish sampling tool). This video oversimplifies things. In real world, in professional context, you'd use FL Studio or whatever you like (does not really matter) to make stems to do your mixdown. In final mix and mastering situation, yes, studios commonly use Pro Tools for that. To save a lot of money however, I'd recommend just to learn Reaper instead to do final mix and mastering. It's not a huge leap to use Pro Tools after you get it right.

FL Studio just keep getting better and better and the way it's laid out even when you record somebody you can instantly create some serious effects in the vocals in a very non-destructive way. It is so versatile and when you really learn how to use its stock plugins it's a monster

FL is more of a midi daw than everything in one. It's good to make fast beats because the piano roll is one of best but other than that it's poor. The mixer is the reason why I switched to Ableton, it's much clearer

I started out as a producer with just plain old FL Studio 12. After a while, I thought of merging my passion for music with that of writing and started writing and recording with FL. Now I know that people Pro Tools is better for mixing and sure, it might be, but my proficiency with FL allows me to focus on making the best music i want to make without thinking about where the gain knob is or how to access the mixer and all that other stuff. Really, just use whatever daw is comfortable for you. Metro produces in FL but mixes in Pro Tools. Hella artists use Ableton. Just use whatever you enjoy.

I almost threw my PC out the window messing with pro tools. Paid for the subscription. Made the iLok/Avid accounts. Downloaded everything. Soon as i went to press activate it said there was no licenses in my account. After a week of battling with this and CRAPPY customer service. Reaper. All the power I need at a fraction of the price. Fully customizable-not only with appearance and skins with with fully editing my own shortcut keys for faster work flow. No ilok. Extremely STABLE, and uses cpu resources very efficiently. Powerful and easy editing, especially audio (others probably do midi better). More functions than I’ll probably ever get to, but good to know they’re there.

LG: you want to record a live session with plugins on? Sure it will flow smoothly. PT: you wan to track 1 thing with no plugins? You will get an random CPU overload and you’ll never figure out why. LG: third party plugin made the session crash? So you want to load the session how you first opened it or do you want to open the auto save we did right before crashing? PT:third party plugin causes a crash? Everything you did for the past 30 minutes is lost it was probably trash anyways. LG: oh you purchased logic great it will open right away not problems at all. PT: you bought pro tools? Here comes an iLok notification that tells you to authorize your use of this software and it’s going to take at least 5 minutes LG: you want to export only an MP3 sure no problem. PT: you want to export only an MP3 nope here’s a wav file that needs to come with it. LG: you want to write in midi information? Sure it’s modern looking and very easy to do so. PT: you want to write in midi information? We have the same piano roll we did since pro tools was created and it’s very hard to use. LG: you want to update? Sure no problem. PT: you want to update? You’ll need to buy the subscription first even though you bought our overpriced software outright.

PT: you want to zoom into waveforms to see what's that breathe you're editing out? Sure, no problem LG: well you temporarely zoom in to the session bc there is literally no way to see what you're editing unless you increase the gain of the file itself. no, you can't just increase the gain of the region, that'll give you a bar right over the noisefloor PT: you wanna change the inputs of existing multitrack to ascending order? yeah sure no problem LG: well if you wanna do that you have to delete it and redo it when you create them. PT: you wanna add crossfades to a grouped multitrack instrument? sure, it'll do that LG: well, that's not included in editing groups, so you have to select all the regions first. as well as the following regions. PT: you wanna use a take from a playlist on a separate channel? sure, you can just drag and drop it out. LG: well, you can technically do that, but it's at lest 5 more steps. PT: you ran out of DSP power but only want to freeze DSP plugins on a channel? no problem, freeze up to an insert. LG: well, we didn't even thought about that would be a problem for people in the studio using probably 50% DSP and not native plugins. PT: you wanna adjust anything on a record enabled track like fader, solo, mute? sure. LG: well, you can technically do that during playback, but you won't hear the change until you stop the playback, disable arming than restart the playback. PT: wanna solo band our Stock EQ? sure, we have a keyboard command for that. LG: WTF is solo band? PT: don't wanna spend a fortune on plugins that sounds like the analog gear you wanna use in a session? sure, we give you 160+ plugins that we modelled after the exact hardware. LG: we actually have some emulations but they only look like the thing we modelled them after but actually sound nothing like ethem. PT: you wanna search for your plugins instead of going through the enormous list of vendors and find the exact eq you're looking for? Sure, just start typing. LG: we have actually failed to add this feature, but there are 3rd party applications you can run as a background application to do that so why should we care. PT: wanna add autofades with a single shortcut to save you hours of editing a huge session? sure, press F. LG: we have actually failed to add this feature, but there are 3rd party applications you can run as a background application to do that so why should we care. And the list goes on... yes, there are benefits of using anything over PT, I don't agree with them as a company either, but their software is going to be an industry standard for a reason. Do we need ARA2? Sure. Could we not use iLock? Would be amazing. Could we open multiple sessions at once? We'd love to do that. Could they add VST or AU support? Yep. Is there any other DAW on the market that is not trying to add unnecessary features targeting the average users / songwriters to sell more licenses and actually ignoring the feature requests of actual Audio Professionals? (Don't say Reaper, it doesn't even have AAF import so transitioning to it is a nightmare).

Even better is to not learn them all. Learn one really well and you will be fine. The worst is to jump from one to the other and never becoming expert in one. The idea is to get the job done and make great music. Which daw you used will not make the result better. Just choose one of the top 5 that you feel best with and go for it. Don't waste time worrying that you are using the wrong daw. The weirdest thing is how some people choose daws. They watch a video. They think the guy is cool, so they do whatever he is doing. Of course no one finds out what the most successful ones are using. They go with someone who is as much a beginner as they are, but has a channel. Strange.

I tried with Ableton didn't like it and I use Fl studio specifically for making beats cause I like its step-sequencer and the perks it has in the piano roll etc. Been using Fl studio for like 8 years flat. But I recently started messing with pro-tools and It was so easy to use just by using it so far for like 3 days. Very simple to use from a basic standpoint level that is. I like it as far as editing, mixing, and my main thing just making beats so Fl studio always does it for me in that area. Im comfortable and fast with Fl studio So I'll never use pro tools for beat making but mixing editing seems more focused for that reason in my opinion. Not saying people can't make beats with pro tools but I just like fl studio better when it comes to that specifically. But pro tools pretty easy for me to get more to learn to use. So Im going to get familiar with it just for the fact of just having a basic understanding of it. So if I was to go to a studio at least I know what Im looking at. That's my purpose for the pro-tools thing but Fl studio always going to be my beat maker program.

Reaper Won't make you poor. Runs more smoothly. Crashes less often. Get very regular updates. Doesn't put up any limits, that aren't required by anything to make buy you an ultimate version (Very important if you do surround mixings) I will give protools, that beat detective is great. Reaper has a version of it, which is worse though. Anyways. Before I get yelled at for this. I started out learning protools and now pretty much only use reaper just because of how much faster it allows me to work. With protools it always feels like it is trying to force you into a workflow whiles in reaper I can pretty much edit the way any part of the daw works so it specifically works the way I want it too

I own PT Ultimate and Nuendo. I first used Cubase,, then Nuendo and currently I use both Pro Tools and Nuendo. I got Pro Tools while studying Mixing, Advanced Mixing and Audio Mastering at Berklee because every Prof taught with Pro Tools so it was easy to follow along. I like PT I must say, especially its transport, smart tool, and mix window. But am sad to say, PT is currently gathering dust on my desktop (havent opened it for months) because Nuendo is packing a lot of punch for me. It's just blowing PT away with its flexibility, pristine audio-engine, and workflow speed. Nuendo's workflow is a PT killer. So many things are very easy to do. The key commands are also easier to remember and execute. If you wanna flip open the mix console/mix window, it's F3 in Nuendo but Ctrl + in PT (you have to use two hands). Quite a lot of commands executed in Nuendo with one finger, would require two with PT and many other stuff (like to Solo in PT you use Shift + S but in Nuendo it's just S). So many advantages in key commands, and you can even build your own key commands in Nuendo (very customizable). The only thing that attracts me to PT is the mix window (I like the mix window tracks, folder tracks show up in the mix window, and the beautiful design of the mix window, coloring, and also the fact you can see all your plugins at a go), but other than these, the edit window/project window of Nuendo is the 'ish for me. It beats PT hands down. You can mix your song entirely in the project window of Nuendo and wont even miss the mix-console for a moment if you choose. Editing is also very nimble and agile in Nuendo. One other thing PT does so well is the Audio Suite, which Nuendo has as Direct Offline Processing (DSP), but I find PT's Audio Suite very solid, but hey, Nuendo's DSP is advanced enough to deliver the goods, so am happy with it. The logical Editor and the Project Logical Editor in Nuendo are so powerful for processing midi and audio operations and multiple other stuff, that nothing in any other DAW including PT comes close. Tempo Detection and Tempo Changes in Nuendo is a breeze but it's a lot of pain in PT if you are not very experienced. I can go on and on to elaborate. Steinberg, the German company simply blows Avid away with so many engineering feats. Trust me, Nuendo would blow PT away especially with the great advances in Post-Production which it has made.
@Eljulitus

Not according to my experiences. >15 years within post production, and close to 25 years professionally with Pro Tools. I don`t at all need, or even miss the Mixer window in PT. So it's kind of interesting that you experience the same thing with Nuendo :D That being said. I miss Digidesign and I truly *hate* AVID! Everything I miss from PT (especially due to my tendonitis), are the key commands which are soooo much better compared to all the other DAWs I`ve tried. Otherwise, I encourage people to avoid Avid's pro tools.

Pro Tools was Mac-only once. Digidesign was the era. Then AVID came, and ruined PT for everyone. Now only the big (addicted) production companies can afford PT. It is a shame. But AVID did this to themselves. The grouping are amazing, btw. The key commands too. You just have to learn them by hands. And feel the *real* speed PT can offer while audio editing in PT!

You have basically given one reason to use Pro Tools and that is that it has been around for a long time. Transferring projects between any two DAW's isn't the easiest process but it couldn't possibly be. Likewise, transferring between the same DAW but using different plug ins isn't easy. It involves bouncing and using stems. This is the industry we are in and it's the norm for a lot of industries in one way or another. If you want to sell me on Pro Tools, tell me what it can do that other DAW's can't because otherwise I'm going to keep using Reaper and Ableton.

You didn't give any good reasons like it's better than other daws, because it's not. The most trusted DAW. Not true. How many pt users are afraid to update because of how often new version screw up their mixes or have bugs that take forever to fix. So many are using old versions. They are afraid to update. Do you just update without worrying? The fact that there are so many pricings is not a good thing. I use reaper. It costs $60 for the full version and that's that. It seems that avid is continuously wanting more money. Reaper is $60 forever and no one is afraid to update it. The only reason to go with pt is if you have no choice because of your situation. You have always used it and your are successful so as long as it works for you then no need to switch. I have read so many statements of people switching to reaper from pt but almost no one goes the other way. I honestly think that a beginner starting with pt is foolish unless, again, they have a gig offer requiring it. You are a pt guy, and you are not comparing to other daws. The industry standard thing doesn't apply anymore. What if a successful reaper producer offers a beginner a gig, should he refuse to learn reaper because it's not the industry standard? If you compare reaper to pt, reaper always wins in every category.

Yo JEB I was a die hard FL Studio user for years and I still think that it is lit!!! But......you gotta give Studio One 4.5.1 a go my brother. If you add the ATOM pad controller along with it or any midi keyboard, your possibilities with beats are endless. I use S1 for both beats and vocals all in the same DAW. @@EHall-yx9xy studio 1 is also great. I agree.. I actually know how to use about 4 daws. FL , studio 1, Ableton, and cubase. I just find the FL for making beats so so easy and straight to the point. I use studio one for vocals too sometimes. But cubase is the easiest to record mix and handle vocal correction. I basically use what I feel like when I can. But most of the time it's make the beat in fl and record in cubase. Not just because of it being in one daw 😅 but there's this level of inspiration I unlock when I switch daws. That's the main reason

I use FL to compose and Cubase for recording sessions. I been using FL since 2.0 and I get ideas down fast. For vocals I use Cubase for the comping feature with Variaudio for correction. I do set up the system to behave like protools though. Either way I end up sending out the stems to my engineer who of course uses protools. My own templates make sessions easier. Me too is somewhat sorry for your wallet. But then again, with PT (especially with flex/ultimate/HD), you have the possibilities to become a true gunslinger when it comes to key commands! Using the I-beam is everything you will need if an insane amount of speed is what you`re in need of. Also check out the menu popping up when hitting Enter to create a marker. Lots of possibilities in regard to layouts, hiding tracks, zooms, curves showing and more. Holding down Ctrl+cmd+alt while mouse clicking on a Plug Ins parameter should offer some usable opportunities. Combine this with the third party macro program QuicKeys, and the limits are endless! PT is insane for audio editing. I still prefer Logic for music making though.

I’m a film composer and as a musician and a writer Cubase is king. The industry standard for scoring and writing music for film. Cubase has a larger user base world wide than protools. I also love logic for its midi. As a song writer cubase, Logic, fo studio are to me the only option. If you record bands live instruments protools seems to be the standard. Even for mixing for some. The issues I have with protools is their support is absolutely awful. They charge for absolutely everything and it’s so proprietary it’s crazy. I like having the option to use whatever audio interface I want. Thunderbolt in and done. Plus vst instruments are far more powerful and efficient. The bottom line though. Use what inspires you. Great music comes from what inspires you. So if protools is what inspires. Use it. I own cubase, flstudio, Logic, and protools Hdx. Learn them all and find out what you prefer.

I don't use pro tools cause what I do is somewhat a hobby, I'm a music artist most of all but I know a little bit of tricks to make things sound the way I want. I download a shitload of VST's sometimes random amounts, random styles, Limit myself, Surround myself with tons of outlets, and I prefer windows, so it being on that is a better platform for me making things because I have NO budget for audio, I have to make everything free for myself with no royalties. I have gained enough knowlege to know what type of drum synth sounds I want, and I can pretty much from memory recall what types of drum synths I love, and if not I can google them, but I have a pretty well rounded list of packs I know about that can help me make some one-shots. I like loops sometimes, when I'm working with Drum N Bass, Neurofunk, and sometimes Dub, sometimes a loop fits right, and sometimes the loop itself needs to get chopped and screwed. There's many ways to do that in the mix, out of the mix, moving things up and down through, rerouting, it basically has ENOUGH of the tools I need in order to accomplish basic versions of what I am looking for. I'm not super into mixing, can do a little bit of it, but my version and style is in between crude and at an artist's standpoint, so I would like to make it sound like what I want. I haven't collaborated cause I'm really like a 1 man band, and I can keep a song going, change it into a completely different sound on the fly, create micro-songs that link up into mini-albums, and even drag out the same couple of chords or sounds for minutes and minutes just to register "a point" or bit of media I want without that many limitations. I Like to make my tunes with ZERO money and I think the object of my game is to get the most *Creativity* in one place, no matter if I hip-hop'd it or Composed it from scratch.

I started on audition as well because it was provided by my school. I would say that now you are familiar and comfortable with audition you should switch to another DAW with a more efficient workflow. It will be incredibly easy to learn a new DAW if you've had to deal with audition lol.

to be honest it's all a matter of taste but I think as a good producer you should know at least 2 Daws and one of them should be called PT because that is so complex yet very clear and easy to use.My favs are definately Ableton,Pro Tools and Logic. How Wayne says PT is industry standard BOY...! Hola at Wayne Dog and Thxs for these awesome videos

Are you in need of automation, suspend automation function and easy access to these, then you unfortunately have to go for the HD (Plex) versions. Otherwise, I would go for the Studio version. If you dont need to own PT, you can rent it. Sucks, but at least that is an option.

its all about who is behind the mike. Eminem recorded slim shady Ep album on a software called Cakewalk Pro Audio . U can make hit record using a simple pro tools 8 that came out in 2005/2006 with one simple sound card interface like Mbox. thats all u need to make a hit record but the guys that are nerdy and can make a hit song on protools can not sing so they never make it. simple as that. and the ones that can sing or rap or what ever are to stupid to use pro tools.

Im a logic x user for more than 9 years , I tried pro tools 2018 for 5 months and also studio one and now cubase 10...so now I think that logic has the best synths and sounds and great workflow, studio one 4.5 has the fastest workflow with an amazing samplers and midi features its kinda mix between logic and cubase....cubase 10 has the best sound engine,it just sounds open and clean but many complicated features that in st1 and logic you can do with one click in cubase you need 5 clicks..and oh yes cubase has the best colors in the world, just amazing...pro tools is great for live recording and some midi...no good sampler, poor midi, slower worlflow than others but great colorful tracks,...its just my opinion..does not have to be yours...regards and keep up the great video tutorials

Non of the other DAW work flow is faster than protools. The mix window is smoother and very easy to access. Though studio one had drag and drop features if you have a lot if plugins the list is longer with huge thumb nails making the drop down everlasting to everlasting. Even if you use the favourite category it is still difficult. In protools all you need is to spread the page adding the IO, instruments etc on edit page and if you have double screen monitors you are flying. The multi fool feature in protools makes editing so easy. I used studio one all week last week and couldn't believe the time it took to do simple things. I am now back into protools. For producing the instruments etc are there in studio one but I use 3rd party instruments so no worries.

@@SmallAxeMP ..at the end yes ,its a matter of choice, but you should try studio one 4...many of my friends has switched from pt to st1.the workflow of st1 is just amazing...regards

@@foxproduction4554 I have it and been using it all week last week and the week before been using it from it was just released. I owned every version yet still it is in jo way better than protools. I opened both on my scenes and did a side by side comparison and protools is faster and more organized. The drag and drop feature in studio one works when you only use factory stock plugins but if you have a lot of 3rd party plugins like me then the drag and drop makes no sense because the list gets very long and the thumb nails makes it even more complex. I used 2 monitor screens and that way I only wanna see my edit window on one side only and nothing else so the edit window where you drag from is unwanted in my flow. Once you know how to use protools with your short cuts and key commands is very simple. Guys over think it and then say it is backward etc but they just dont know how to use it.

Hey @waveywayne.i used protools to mix once a few years ago.but I been using Ableton for 10yrs now.i started getting serious about 6 yrs now. But I got cubase 8and 9as my #sidepiece but I always go back to ableton.i know my way round it. And time is money.ive just got my first Mac pro.yes my first look.i was at an Ableton live night course ,after working (carpentry) smh.(dedicated og) and I was the only one using pc.but my shit was way more dope than the others who were on the same level as me.so.i think I'm gonna continue using Ableton but will learn to mix in protools.got a copy of protools first with my 18i20 Scarlett but never really used it .if you have any suggestions on a good enough version of protools that can mix at least 50 tracks.(the highest I had was 64).and I got a lot of waves plugins.(a lot) so my tools for mix is covered.cheers

what i don’t like pro tools is when i bought the 1 year subscription i had frustrating issues installing so i needed help so i decided to call avid support but found out you need a support subscription to just talk with them on the phone right after i dropped a lot of money on the software which i think is complete bullshit. I was so angry that i decided i wanted a refund.
