I lived in Colombia for 3.5 years and for a long time, I was a big advocate for the country. Now it's hard for me to recommend to foreigners and expats move to Colombia. The country has changed a lot, and life in Colombia has become different. Today I'm going to talk about why.

In my opinion the guys who come to consume women and drugs are actually the smarter ones. They saw Medellin for what it was early and didn't commit their life and time to a project of trying to grow in a city that is there to take from them. The foolish ones dig their heels in and continue the slow decline. Its better operate to treat medellín as a transaction because they look at you the same way.

Regarding safety - after just getting burglarized for the 2nd time in two years, both happening by thieves climbing in through my 2nd floor windows in the middle of the night while I was sleeping - you won’t get any argument from me. Still two years left on my visa so I’ll probably stay in country, but very anxious to get the hell out of Medellín…

Medellín is a disaster.. but I've never liked the city since my first visit in 2018. It's more dangerous and ridiculously expensive. I live in the countryside..it's chill. I love living here.. but I speak Spanish as well. My guy is Colombian and the tourism boom helps his Spanish school 😅 so it's ebs and flows like anywhere.. spot on about realistic living here it's not easy and it's def not safe esp in big cities

I also didnt like it that much. I mean, the city is pretty and I admire the public transportation, but I think it is overpromoted and overhyped. I felt always pressured to like it because people in Medellín would always ask me if I like the city or not and if I think it is the best place in the country, and it might be true or not, but I did not like that If I say that I prefer other places, they get bitter at me. Also, as a Colombian, going for lunch or dinner there was very hard, I felt like I was paying in USD. Didnt like paying for a breakfast prices that get me a lunch in a good restaurant in other less touristic cities like Bogotá. I also dont like the tourism that is developing there: people coming for sex and drugs. You dont see them in museums or contributing to society, just just fins them getting wasted

Facts, I feel relatively safe in colombia because my reference in the US isn't your normal one, so watching my environment is pretty normal. I do it in my sleep. I also find trusting anyone difficult, because I know the culture here and I think I'm fine with that because I never lie to myself on how it is. The women..... they are very beautiful, but to be honest once you know how a lot of them think you realize the chase isn't worth it. Even with all those negatives I enjoy living here, I just don't fool myself thinking this place is a Utopea. I think all your points is valid and reporting how things really are in Medellin could help people not be fooled. Keep it up!!

But theres more than Medellín, North of Bogotá is a second world place that got a population of 4 million people and a different culture! Anyway not all women in Medellín are that way, there are beauty woman that got a great honor culture just in there, Colombia has the two extremes, it all depends of what ur looking for! For example rural camp life is a dreaming life, theres is the best nature of the full world, see the intro of "las hermanitas calle" novela, there you could see camp life, we got three citys of rural life in the coffe axis or "eje cafetero", i recomend armenia! We got also 3 cities on caribean coast! That i recomend santa martha or cartagena, Maan! And tehere is more cities!!! About woman ive been living just love in here, it depends just of you!

The safety concern as you get older is def true. I used to ride motorcycles a lot in LA/OC traffic actually evrryday to work. Nearly died more time than I can remember like half a second away several times. And riding motos are so fun but i just had to think once i took a step back do i really want to go out like that? The chances are just so high and yea i have gone 2 yrs with no accidents but i know ppl who have died and friends with multiple accidents. Reminds me of ur colombia example. Ive been all over latin america and thought of moving to a few countries and looking back I think its not worth it. You made it out alive and i have too in my brief travels and it is a beatiful part of the world but again it only takes one time and i look back and think how crazy i was walking around medellin and rio solo at 3 am lmao. Id love to go back but with moving smarter. Surprisingly the middle east is no where near as dangerous. The older we get the more we realize we need to be responsible and reduce risk not just for our sake but our loved ones

I moved to Colombia two years ago to open a business. I have traveled to over 40 countries and most of them have been in Asia. I am not going to criticize your point of view because no one can change the way that you feel. I watched your channel and some things I agree with and some things I don’t. I have been to Japan over 65 times and worked and lived over there but I still chose Medellin. The barrier of entry to start a business was good, healthcare system, proximity to the USA and the culture. My Spanish is decent and I study daily. I can understand your reasoning for not wanting to return to Colombia. I wish you the best. I understand the dangers because I grew up in South Central LA back in the mid 80’s. I don’t drink, smoke, do drugs nor really party but I do like to salsa dance. I personally love my life in Colombia and I do not try to convince people to come to Colombia who have safety concerns. I think that people should come to a country for a purpose and good people will come into their lives. I love SE Asia as well. I retired early from corporate American in my mid-40’s and I wanted to start a life experience and enjoy the rest of my life. I found peace and joy in Colombia. I have been married twice and I have adult children and one teen. I am a Black American and disabled veteran. I would have chosen Japan to retire part time but Colombia appealed more to someone in my condition because my chronic condition requires medications that I always have to get special permission from the Japanese Health Ministry to possess in that country. I saw one of your videos about different races and dating in other countries. I actually never had trouble dating in Asian countries, European countries or anywhere in the world. So I disagreed with your assessment in that regard. My second wife is Japanese and daughter is half Japanese. I will continue to watch your channel because I enjoy hearing your perspectives. Wherever you decide to settle in life, I wish you the best.

Colombians wont like this comment and maybe you either: BTW, great video, and summary and I like that you dare to be real and honest (I hope you also were honest in your videos when you lived there). At first, I thought the title was just clickbait but then I realized there is big value in your content. Here are my agreements and observations: 1) You bring a lot of facts and what you said and showed is true: one can get scammed or robbed and in general the legal system doesn't work very well. As a Colombian, I got used to not using my phone on the streets for example. Unfortunately, I confirm all you mentioned is true. This is sad. I am also sorry that you had to go through this. 2) You also moved there for the women, let's say it clearly and be honest. And we have a term to address those people: basically, you are what we call " un gringo putero" even if you are not "paying" in a traditional way. I am sure you understand the term and probably I am not the first one telling you this. In Medellín, even at hotels, they write signs stating that "it is forbidden to bring external people in the room". And signs are written in English, so just imagine the amount of men going there for this same reason. Yes, like you. 3) As "un putero", when you go to a country for the wrong reasons (sex, drugs, doing whatever you cannot do back home), you will meet the wrong people as well. You will surround yourself with the ones that are in those industries or the ones looking for the same. It is a vicious circle. In Colombia, we rely a lot on recommendations. We do business with people that we trust, we even hire plumbers that someone recommended, etc. But for that, you need to get in the circle of the good people, that, unlike the guy that you interviewed in the video, the good people are 80%. But you were in an environment controlled by the rest of the 20%. Or... just be honest and accept that you are just doing sketchy things. What I dont like is that you went to Colombia with sex tourism motivation and then you expected your experience to be perfect, moral and pure. Yes, in prostitution, sex, parties with drugs, heavy alcohol...there is where people get exposed. 4 foreigners died in the last week. Can you provide context? Were they the people learning Spanish and going to museums? or were they the ones buying cocaine in Parque Lleras? 4) Since you moved there for the women and you said: "If you take out the women, what is left in the country?". Wtf bro? This is when I say that you moved for the wrong reasons. You lived 3.5 years and were not able to find anything else? You dont mention for example cultural aspects such as the music and dances, the African and Indigenous influence, diversity, festivals such as Barranquilla Carnival, leyenda vallenata or Feria de las Flores, the cute heritage towns such as Mompox, the literature of Gabriel García Márquez and his magical realism. Off course, you missed all of this because you spent the time in Medellín saying random rehearsed pickup lines and negs to get women. Colombia is one of the biggest hub for musicians, many of them have sung in the Superbowl or football (with the feet) World Cup. Great landscapes and great people. What else did you want? 5) Dating coaches: you mention that now in Poland it doesnt work that well. Let me tell you something: you didnt need to hire a dating coach to be able to talk and pick up women in Medellín. Just because of being a foreigner and going to the clubs where women seeking a better future go, you could basically just recite the ingredients of your shampoo and the result would have been the same. But to get ones that dont like you for the illusion of money, you need to be a real high-value guy. Not just because you say you are or because a dating coach tells you to post things that "pretend" you are. In Poland, it is different because they are less desperate for a better future. But I dated in the past several Polish women and have great friends from there. I do think they are very friendly. If you didnt find it yet is because you got used to people being nice with you because of the money and because you pretend this high value thing. 6) Taking advantage of poverty, to make a city a personal whore house, is miserable 7) Now that you dont live there, you seem affected by the statistics of single moms. I almost bought that you care. You did not care about it when you were looking for women there right? So dont pretend a fake morality bro, just be honest like some people in the comments that say that the smartest people are the ones that go there for sex and drugs and dont expect anything else. 8) To the people of Medellín: please stop overselling your city and telling everybody that it is the best city in the world and women are the hottest. This is what attracts gringos puteros and drug addicts

Case and point if you're there for any length of time and you really do speak Spanish you will find out very quickly it is completely normal for Paisas to be paranoid of other Paisas. There is a very strong and present culture of "trust nobody" it's just a fact of life and any honest Colombian will agree with this statement. Love your honesty Wes. Prostitution is socially excepted in Paisa culture, it's not judged with a moralistic lenses.... Prostitution hold a valuable position within the Paisa social construct.... accepted as a realistic necessity of life. Why then is social media favouring the narrative that sex tourism is primarily the fault of foreigners? Sex tourism in Medellin is controlled by powerful "agencies"..... who benefits from this narrative?

I think sex tourism is the fault of a failed economy, we all live in a broken system designed to favor the top of the pyramid while the masses suffer - the elite want the masses easily controlled, confused, house broken, poor etc so they can remain in control.

We are still a third world country. Many people from the US want to come to Colombia to have fun living and expending with dollars, and of course is great, is cheap, people, most of it is friendly and welcoming, food is nice and you might find it welcoming to stay, which you can do. Unlike other racist countries we are not obsessed with race purity and we are open to mingle, most of us. That being said, if you guys want to live here in the long run, learn Spanish. Is the language of the land and in the same way if I migrate to an anglo speaking country without speaking English I'll be fucked up, guess what? Is the same here regarding OUR language. Dont expect people to speak English, most don't. There is also a current problem with sexual tourism and guys wanting to prey on Colombian women because of course, passport and dollar are strong, but of course, if you build up your personal relationships with others only based on this, the most likely outcome is to have very shallow and convenient people surrounding you. What else could you get from that dynamic? No significant links with real people, only a bunch of people applauding all what you do, even your wrongdoings. Absolutely you cannot get good friends or a significant relationship. I find your allegory of finding diamond among the dirt about the fact many beautiful women are also single mothers very unfortunate. Along with gentrification. Sadly many inmigrants or, how they like to call their selves "expats" being able to pay rents in dollar or euro displace the local population paying in pesos. This is something that should be taken care of. Colombia is a beautiful country, filled with amazing things, but in the long run if you want to live here, yes, we are a nation still in construction, security conditions are far from ideal and absolutely you should pay attention to your belongings more than you will usually do, this is not the normal thing, hopefully we manage to correct it in the future, but these things are not going to be solved easily and would require time. Colombia faces many issues, as any other developing countries, even more given our violent contemporary history. Regards.

Wes again these specific youtubers are not wrong but sometimes they often mislead their titles such as finding your wife on Colombia when it's likely that they not married yet lol. I just think they misrepresent Colombia a bit and should taken into account with pros and cons of each country and depends if you want to move to another country or not same thing with Colombia. Guys you can move to Colombia if you ok with unpredictable safety but just like everywhere else as colombian guy spoke to me about. You can get your watch robbed in rich areas in London vs poor areas in Colombia. Obviously safety has to be the negative factor, but if you mind your business and don't papaya yourself into deep holes and you good. Obviously Colombia is a simple country and you should move to that country not just for women, but just for cheap lifestyle, good food, good people and chill vibes. It's a good country icl, but often again they hyped way too much after 2 days of stay and it's like dude just don't hype about country and actually post honest and real content like Life with David did.

I am an Asian man living in the U.S. sine 60s, but I was born in China. I had few short marriages. My first wife was Filipina and she was the only Asian I married. Others were all Latinas. I have dated different races of women in my life. I had an Asian girlfriend briefly. I was never attracted to Asian women because most of them were short and skinny. I am 5’11 and I didn’t like any woman under 5’3. There was not many Asian where I went to school either. So I dated mostly White and Latina. Here are my opinions on women of different races: I grew up in Los Angeles ghetto with majority blacks so I didn’t have much social life or friends until later in life after college. ******This summarized my over 30 years of dating experiences. ***Asian women in U.S. - Most women preferred white men. Perhaps wanted to assimilate more into American culture. ***White women - Not surprising, most are liberal and career oriented. They were not family oriented nor were they domesticated. I also did not trust their faithfulness for long term relation. **Most white women preferred not to date outside their race. Unfortunately, those who dated Asian man also were opened to other races including black. I met some white women thru dating site, and some thru professional organization and activities. I was not 100% successful but I had several advantages: I am not that short at 5’11, I have a muscular body, and I had a professional job and my own home.. I do have several disadvantages as many Asian men - I am shy, introverted, and do not drink and not very outgoing, and did not fit the party bad boy image. ***Latina in U.S. - They were not racist like some white women. Not many had higher education. Most had children at young age, and had responsibilities for their parents. Some had families in their own country to support. Their values have changed if they have been in the U.S. for some time. ***Black - I was not attracted to their looks or culture. Very few blacks took care of themselves. ***Asian women in Asia - Most are gold diggers. They just wanted a green card. ***Eastern European whites - Poor and desperate, gold diggers. Eastern Europe cities are not safe places to travel to and too far from the U.S.. *****Latina from Latin America. After several failed marriages with American women, I eventually discovered paradise from foreign dating site, and went on group tours and private trips to Latin America - Peru (Lima), Colombia (Bogota, Cali, Medellin). These 2 countries are more developed than others and they are within hours of flight. Colombians are more educated and modern than Peruvians. I speak good Spanish, went to Colombia more than 10 times on my own, and found my current wife in Bogota, I was 44, and she was 38. We have been happily married for over 15 years. She had 2 gown children remained in Colombia. NOTE: Latinas in Latin America were not discriminated against Asian men. To them I was another American. They didn’t care about age or look or what kind of work I did. To me Latina are the most beautiful and sexy women in the world. However, I was more realistic and practical than some men in my tour group as I was looking for a permanent partner close to my age, not more than 10 years younger. Some older men in their 60s were looking for women in their 20s and 30s. Many Latnas attended our group parties were in their early 20s. Latina from outside U.S. would make better partners and had not influenced by negative culture in the U.S. However, most had children at young age so be prepare to support them. This may be harder for younger man looking for wife.. By the way, I will never live in Colombia. It is too dangerous, even in Bogota. There is no place to go. Cartels are surrounding the country side. There is no protection. I could go anywhere in the U.S. You would not have the problem if you didn't try to establish yourself there.

I think the issue is that people talk about Colombia and really are talking about Medellín. I lived in Colombia off and on for 3 years and still go back to visit. I spent most of my time Bogotá and Eje Cafeteria. I would say the culture there is way different than Medellín. Even between Bogotá and Eje Cafetero the cultures are different. Medellín reminds me a lot of LA and Miami. Fake people who present themselves as more than who they really are and are looking anyway to make a buck. Eje Cafetero was way more laid back. Bogotá... well that city has its issues too. Let us just say it is different.

Colombia is a de facto anarchy. It takes almost 3 years on average to enforce a contract, with a cost of 50% of the contract value. Locals count on foreigners not sticking around for that long, and they will in any case spend any deposit, prepayment, loan or whatever you give them as soon as they can, so there will be nothing to gain from suing them.

In my life I have never met 1 percent of the TOXIC people I've met living here in Mexico for the past two years! ESPECIALLY THE WOMEN! Of course there are good people, but in general it's been too easy to run into bad experiences. Crude, conniving, jealous, insecure, toxic people! I think is a narrow view about just only one specific region in Colombia... every local guy knows how hard can be Medellin for some of them: women (some, not all), local culture, inflation due to gentrification (thanks to hedonistic foreginers, mostly), local chauvinism, the "traqueto" (narco) culture, etc.... I know people from outside Medellin saying they´ll never leave that city, other ones prefer just a short visits there... but if you want to leave, that´s ok. No city is perfect.

Colombian people are friendly and helpful. that we have bad apples yes tell me where are not?. Moving to a country is not as easy as the new nomads think it is specially when the country is poor and money dictated the mood of the people. i will suggest to add to your video advise if you go and live in colombia need to surround your self with good , honest people. Take security seriously, Do not show your money and do not share personal information. If you are hunting for a woman the easy way will not lead you a good place. im not saying that a good , educated woman is going to be ok. is just like any part of the world. and the moto will be do not trust no body! always think bad and investigate, analyse and if is to good to be true move away!!
