This is so ridiculous, if you can't fix something it doesn't mean its garbage, unless you know a component is bad then a the parts on that board could be useful. It could be that you find a working cpu on another broken board. Do not listen to this, these consoles will be gone soon if people think of them this way.

Now these are about $200. But they are still hard as hell to keep working. I have the old toaster nes, original GBC kiwi and Red advanced SP. Other then that. I use a retro trio 3 plus. And also have a retron 5. So cartridges can still be played and tested. For nes, snes, sega gen, GB, GBC, GB advanced.

Thia sucks. I got into console repair last year and started with snes. I realized very quickly that out of the dozen or so I bought, the majority had black screens and I rules out dirty connectors. The early snes chip designs suck royally and I hope we get a replacement soon.

I often see the debate of who won the 16 bit war Nintendo OR Sega it is a debate that will never truly end. As for long term durability however Sega is the hands down winner. The significantly higher durability of the Hardware as well as the over all easier to repair components makes this a landslide victory in this particular aspect of there war.
@RobertNES816
@RobertNES816 7 лет назад
BRIAN WALKER Not 100% true. The Sega Game Gear and Model 1 Sega CD are both plagued with leaking capacitors, the Master System was better on paper when compared to the NES, but it was built using bad plastics and had poorly made Controllers. Nintendo did make very solid Hardware that continues to last. If anything the Genesis itself along with its accessories are examples of Sega's efforts to complete with Nintendo. It's built just as good as the SNES and gave Nintendo real competition. I think the issues with the SNES were more down to manufacturing issues with who ever Nintendo used to make their chips. The technology was new back then and it was probably difficult to manufacture quad flat package chips that small and in such quantity. The rotting plastic issue was probably down to just poor understanding of proper bromine mixture.

It's easy to remove and replace smd parts you just buy a few not working snes's and trouble shoot them when a multi meter oscilloscope and use the good parts ! It is also very easy for anyone to use a heat gun and solder paste or a fine soldering iron and solder and a magnifying glass and flux that has learned electronics in the 21 century ! Just because you can only do threw hole soldering and not surface mount soldering doesn't mean you should throw them out and not use the for parts ! Also companies are never going to switch back to threw hole because it has to be done by hand where as surface mound can be done faster and cheaper by machines not to mention it's better for miniaturization ! So yes threw hole is easer repair but surface mount is not impossible or even that hard and you don't nead expensive tools like a reflow table a toster oven a timer and a digital temperature sensor will do for doing many chips at once and a heat gun and solder braid and tweezers to remove and solder past resin flux and a heat gun to install for a few chips and fine tip and solder wire gage with flux core tacking the corners first then draging a conical tip that has been tinned with solder with lots of flux first and some tweezers and a magnifying glass and good lighting for one chip ! Also you can find work and video ram online but you have to salvage spare CPU's PPU's and SPU's from other snes or sfc mother boards ! Now what is really hard is replacing the ball grid aray instead of land grid stay or pin grid aray on PS 3 and ps4 it does require a reflow oven and time since there are not just pins on all sides in a tiny gage but hundreds of solder balls in a grid instead of pins on the chip or the motherboard like easy to replace PC's !

@droiduseruserdroid1731
@droiduseruserdroid1731 6 лет назад
Something to note. As long as it gets clean power and the controller ports work, you can still use it with the Retrobit Genesis and NES adapters as they are basically entire console on a cartridge and bypass the PPU, and Sound Chip. I have Thunderforce 3 playing on a dead SNES that can do little more than show a red light otherwise.
@droiduseruserdroid1731
@droiduseruserdroid1731 6 лет назад
Basically, the real console is on the cartridge and it is only pulling power from the AC adapter and communicating with the control pads through the cart slot. Everything else on the SNES can basically be dead. CPU might need to work though, simply to pass the signals from the cart slot to the game pads. You can entirely take out the Sound Chip and it makes no difference at all. VRAM and PPU probably don't matter either.

I have a problem (launch model SNES) that if I leave it on for about an hour or two, it freezes to a black screen. However, if I put in a cheap SUPERUFO with roms on it, it doesn't freeze. Any idea what is going on?
@RobertNES816
@RobertNES816 6 лет назад
Test your power supply to see if its putting out around 10 to 13 volts after 2 hours. If the voltage is under 10 volts the power supply will need to be replaced. The other issue could be capacitors that are drying up. Or it could be the save files from your superufo could be messing with the save files in your games causing the console to freeze when it needs to access the save files.
@RobertNES816
@RobertNES816 6 лет назад
Also one more thing is that its possible the Superufo has a wider board then an original SNES cartridge. If this is the case then the pins on the SNES console could be bent out a bit more then they're supposed to be which would cause a poor connection with the cartridge.
