The U.S. Navy has announced that the USS Georgia, one of its four Ohio-class guided-missile submarines (SSGNs), has been deployed to the Middle East. This move comes amid growing concerns that Iran and its proxies may retaliate following Israel’s assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. At the same time, the U.S. Navy is speeding up the deployment of the supercarrier USS Abraham Lincoln to the region, with plans to have two carrier strike groups present there soon.
The U.S. Department of Defense said in a statement., “Secretary Austin reiterated the United States’ commitment to take every possible step to defend Israel and noted the strengthening of U.S. military force posture and capabilities throughout the Middle East in light of escalating regional tensions,”
This statement came after a conversation between U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. During the call, Gallant reportedly informed Austin that Iran was preparing for a large-scale military attack on Israel within the coming days.

IDK, obviously a Tip of the Spear Stealthy Sub with Top Quality Cruise Missile is a Pretty Powerful Thing for our Military, and we surely should have them... BUT! What are we Supposed to Carry that High Caliber of an Attack Up for an extended period of time when if the Opening Salvos of such should put US into a Position that more Cost Effective Munitions and Platforms can Finish the Rest of the supposed days to weeks long Barriage Off? Like shouldn't we have some Missile Ships (Arsenal Ships) filled with Cheaper more cost effective Cruise Missiles, and those Ships basically be one purpose Auxiliary Ships Cheaper and Smaller than a Destroyer, but Feilding close to the same amount of Missiles, with small crew sizes, light AA and light Counter Measures? Once the Enemies AA is Crippled, why use Such High Cost Cruise Missiles to better avoid Now Mostly Destroyed AA fired from an overly expensive Platform that needs extra training and quality of Sailor (a Submariner) when you are already by a phase that dictates the need for such?

That's what the aircraft carrier that is on it's way is for. After the sub dumps its payload on the important targets, the navy will then unleash the 2nd largest airforce on them.

@@Relayer6a with 22 active Va class would it not be likely that at least 1-2 are also in Med given the problems in the area? just curious if there is a more strategic reasoning is in play such as Va class really never wants to give intel as to where they are and that an Ohio class maybe less stealthy and less important to keep its location unknown since they are destined for decommissioning in next 2 years

@@jeffrogers9312 Can't say for sure. It was public knowledge that this sub was in the area though as it was working exercises with the Italian Navy. Who knows how many subs are in the area. I think they wanted Iran to know about this one being there.

Yeah, but we killed over 50,000. It’s difficult to kill a movement. Looking at the IDF vs Hamas, the weakening is important to denigrate their capabilities. Maybe Israel can finish the job, but the Biden/Harris administration is crying for a ceasefire. You make a good point.

@post_singularity I was a forward gunner on a fiberglass river boat in 72-73 in Vietnam. We were ordered to pull 7 GB’s off a small point at night. These guys had counter ambushed a company-size NVA patrol and killed over 40. Some of our unconventional forces were really really good. Our politicians on the other hand, never allowed the free reign that they needed. Decimated the enemy . You make a good point.
