The US has reached a crucial milestone.
According to the Missile Defense Agency., the Defense Department’s advanced missile tracking satellites logged their first views of a hypersonic flight test.
Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS) satellites were able to track a hypersonic system.
MDA didn’t disclose the date of the flight, which took off from Wallops Island in Virginia.
The agency said in a June 14 statement, “Initial reports show the sensors successfully collected data after launch. MDA will continue to assess flight data over the next several weeks.”
Viewers may note, that the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and Space Development Agency (SDA) are actively working on components of a hypersonic missile defense system to protect against hypersonic weapons and other emerging missile threats. This includes developing the tracking and transport layers of the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA) and various interceptor programs.
In this video, Defense Updates analyzes why successful tracking of hypersonic flight by US HBTSS satellites is a crucial development ?

The biggest factor in countering hypersonic weapons is getting accurate real time info. Instead getting delayed info or getting info with only seconds to spare, you get info with ample time for you to defend yourself but most important is that HBTSS is space based. Ukraine was able to move batteries into position and nail two A-50s as well use ATACMS to lay waste to S-300 and S-400 whereas the HBTSS is in orbit where it cant be easily reached or neutralized. It gives the US the means track any hypersonic weapon anywhere in the world

Russias Kinzal missile IS NOT A HYPERSONIC WEAPON! STOP CALLING IT THAT! It’s an air launched ballistic missile. Literally ALL ballistic missiles EVER created travel at up to Mach 20 in their terminal phase. Even the first ballistic missile the USA ever fielded the Titan in its terminal phase reached Mach 20. This is normal ALL ballistic missiles EVER created. A HYPERSONIC WEAPON is a missile or glide vehicle, which is basically a warhead with control surfaces, that can travel at least at Mach 5 AND can maneuver and change course at the expense of airspeed of course. The Kinzal DOES NOT MEET BOTH OF THESE CRITERIA. NO BALLISTIC MISSILE MEETS BOTH OF THOSE CRITERIA! So please do a little bit of research before putting these videos out. If you don’t I for one will not watch them anymore. Again BALLISTIC MISSILES ARE NOT HYPERSONIC WEAPONS EVEN THOUGH IN THEIR TERMINAL PHASE TBEY TRAVEL AT HYPERSONIC SPEEDS. TO BE A HYPERSONIC WEAPON YOU NEED MACH 5 AND UP SPEEDS AND THE ABULITY TO DO SIGNIFICANT MANUEVERS!!
@georgesikimeti2184
@georgesikimeti2184 Месяц назад
Good point,perhaps the speed scenario might qualify kinzal as hyper speed at least 5mach but definitely doesn’t manoeuvre at all thanks to its gliding set up.

I wouldn't waste my breath yelling at this creator. I decided to block him/her for missing or ignoring other basic facts regarding physics, even before I came to check out this comment section. So far, most commenters are pretty amateur in this field, too. So the creator can get away with presenting mostly over-simplified content. And it looks to me like even bots are also joining this circus act.

What's so special about a plane going Mach 4 that makes it harder to track than a plane going Mach 2? The technology has been there for decades. Seems to me that if the military announces a breakthrough, it means a long series of improvements that happened long ago and they've been using a long time.
@raazhard
@raazhard Месяц назад
Nope, nothing special, just physics. If the missile goes fast enough, the friction creates a plasma bubble in front of it, blinding it to radar, optical and infrared sensors may still detect it, but when something is going faster than mach 10, tracking and shooting at it are two different things.

Ok, at this viewing the US does have hypersonic missiles. And for this it's AI to the rescue. Several higher than Geosynchronous orbit satellites with AI can pull out the interfering satellites and debris to clear the way to track hypersonic craft. Geosynchronous can apply the same AI intermediate debris rubble and known satellite interference and enhance radar results for tracking. Doing this with speed is the key. WE need smaller faster chips than the Chinese and Russkies to be effective.
