I watched Quiet On Set and I did not like it! I think we're going a really long way to excuse Drake Bell from allegations that were sealed in court at his request, and this is just a little chat about how just because an abuser had once been victimized we shouldn't disregard their victims.

I'm so sorry the audio in this one is spotty, my mic was definitely dying and I'll check much earlier into recording next time to make sure it's fixed but I also didn't want to rerecord this and have it come across differently than it did on my first take so I'm uploading it as!!! The videos I mention about Alexa vs Christy Carlson Romano are by a creator named Cheyenne and you can find the first one here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NdJ7WMRXRzU.html

It looks like your using a lav mic. Its designed to be attached to your clothes and not to be hand held. The poor sound came when you were moving your hand, so clipping it to your shirt or a necklace could help. Lav mikes also tend to pick up a lot of breathe noise if they are in front of the face. This video was so thoughful, and it was sad seeing the mic hurting it like this!

thank you so much!! it's definitely a lav mic and idk why I didn't think about the fact that using it the wrong was was going to make my audio worse LOL I was just like "oh surely if the microphone is close to me it'll be fine I'm gonna gesture with it" I'll definitely just clip it on next time, really appreciate you taking the time to help me troubleshoot!

Quinton Reviews made a good point about the documentary, they didn’t grill him about his actions as an adult because they needed his story to complete the narrative. Without him all they had was a bunch of rumours and stories that had been heavily speculated on for years. They didn’t want to do anything to upset him that would cause him to pull his interview.

I just want to say that I, for one, greatly appreciate you calling a thing what it is, like, seriously. I will never understand this algorithm and why someone can totally describe a sexual assault with no penalty, but they must say “grape” instead of “rape” or it’s the end of the world. I honestly think it’s just youtube using monitization as a tool AGAINST creators. There is no reason on earth why saying the words “sexual assault” should suddenly make an otherwise perfectly fine video so dangerous that it loses monitization for the creator… while still showing ads that benefit youtube. 🙄 make it make sense.
@pembrokelove

So I’m a new follower, and a little background on me… I’m a retired nurse practitioner who specialized in psych and sub-specialized in the care and confinement of sexually violent predators in civil commitment; I have much to say on this topic, but I won’t drown you in it! I am impressed with your explanation of DARVO and of the very real phenomenon in which a certain number of victims become predators themselves. While it is important, from an SOTP therapeutic perspective, to acknowledge that unhealed trauma may well inform future victimizing behavior - it does not negate the damage that is then done to the next generation of victims. It does nothing to alleviate the suffering of the new generation of victims, and an offender’s overlapping status as a person who has been victimized in the past (or who is victimized after having offended, as in the case of retributive assaults within the prison system) and as a person who has victimized others does nothing to diminish the responsibility of the perpetrator or negate the need for rehabilitation, restorative justice, and interventions against reoffense. What is troubling about this narrative is not only the way it discounts Bell’s victims and their suffering, but also the narrative it implies about other victims - that they, too, are abuses; the facts simply do not bear this out. People who have been abused are actually less likely to become abusers - with or without therapeutic intervention - and are SIGNIFICANTLY less likely to become abusers than the general public when their trauma is identified and intervened upon in childhood. Rather than making a person more likely to commit abuse, having been abused is actually much more likely to result in a person becoming acutely aware of how that trauma negatively impacted their lives and they become hypersensitive to anything that might cause that harm in another. This is where we see, oftentimes, men who suffered abuse as young children becoming fathers who are TERRIFIED to traumatize their child to such an extent that changing diapers becomes traumatic for the father. We see survivor women who will not allow their children to be left alone with any male at all - siblings and even fathers included. We see the abuse impact all survivors, but not in the way that is being implied by other commentators. It should always concern us when someone says “this person hurts children because they were hurt as children” because that statement is so devastatingly harmful to the vast majority of abuse survivors who never harm anyone. Sorry I vomited information all over your page. It’s… um… engagement?? 😂😂 seriously, though, you are doing a great job! I appreciate greatly the work you’ve put into handling this conversation with the sensitivity and nuance it deserves.

I subbed to the channel, now how do I sub to your comments? My mom was a victim of horrific abuse as a child. I have learned so much through her, both good and bad, about how trauma will permeate every part of your life. If things were as simple as “Hurt people hurt people” you’d never believe what she went through. Her abuser, on the other hand, was the golden child. I think it helps people feel better knowing that abusers were “likely” victims first because that gives a cause they can attach to an otherwise senseless act. In reality, a lot more people are just monsters than our brain is willing to accept. In better news, that abuser died recently, sick and in pain, and I smile every time I remember.

The fact that we have to use code words for terms and words that social media/ society now determines as inappropriate is insane to me. Whether it’s art or if it’s media I think people should be able to say their truths especially when it comes to situations like the quiet on set.

The trend of late to censor of words that describe assault has been bothering me, as well. If we aren't given the freedom to elucidate what's happened, then we can't connect with others, seek help or accountability, nor convey the full serious horrifying extent. It doesn't protect anyone to bowdlerise, it only disempowers.

Alexa seemed sweet but something about her is off, she wants this to be about her so bad. When she talks about people apologizing to drake she always brings up that they never apologized to her and Keeps making everyone else’s situation somehow about her . either cover it and spread awareness or don’t but don’t make this a moment to dwell on stuff YOUVE BEEN EXPOSING FOR YEARS

I felt like I was going crazy. as soon as this doc came out it became Drake bell is a hero and a survivor. It makes me seriously terrified of any source of media. Also I’m sorry his music video was gross, I just kept thinking of what his survivors would feel if they saw it. I would feel so attacked. It was like he was still grooming them through this video.

Yes!!! I completely agree!! I cover this in the update video I just posted yesterday but he was literally linking to a conspiracy theory video from the music video that was claiming he did nothing wrong! You pled guilty Drake!!! Not everyone's going to forget that just because you got a documentary to derail itself into a puff piece about you to relaunch your music career Here's the article I read about it: passionfru.it/drake-bell-matt-wallace-58503/

I have very mixed feelings about him and how people are talking about him now compared to earlier. He IS technically a survivor and I think his story in the doc was worth to be told just as much as anyone. I don't believe that anyone one is 100% good or bad, so two things can be true at the same time. However I also didn't like that he chose to release a new music video, that of course ended up on the front page on RU-vid, at the same time that the doc was released. And him being invited to so many podcasts with open arms just gives me an icky feeling. I haven't forgotten how he seemed to laugh and smirk during court hearing while the girl who accused him gave her testimony. He could've waited to release that music video and it wouldn't seem as much as a pr stunt.

Thank you for saying it! I remember when drakes actions first came out a few years ago and everyone was mad about it as they should be. I was confused when all of a sudden he was 100% a victim. Something doesn’t feel right about having victim turned perpetrator given a platform. It feels like he/they are trying to erase his actions as an adult. I appreciate victims/perps is a complicated situation but I dont think victims should be put in a situation to share a platform with victims who are also perpetrators.

Oh also… as a person who relies on captions… it has taken me an embarrassingly lengthy amount of time to figure out to what “Quiet Onset” refers… and at the risk of sounding callous with regard to its origin, can I just say that “Quiet Onset” would make an excellent title for a horror movie, or like… the name of a heavy metal band or whatever.

Just found you, first video of yours im seeing-very impressed. Instant subscribe. I have a small (hopefully) rant about the "hurt people hurt people" category of discourse around CSA. i hate it. So much. Its so damaging to victims-people who experience CSA grow up terrified that they are doomed to become like the person who hurt them. People will actually treat them like they are dangerous if they find out they experienced CSA... That stuff compounds the trauma like crazy. AND its _wrong._ People who go through that become _protectors,_ not perps, the vast majority of the time. The perceived likelihood of that person going on to hurt others is so overblown-why? Because actual perps are LIARS. Most of our information about the psychology of perps comes from evaluating prisoners... They hurt kids, theyre caught, out comes the sob story. Claiming "oh it happened to me too" is basically the _only thing_ that can get them a little sympathy, so thats what they go with.... They wont ALL be lying, csa is disturbingly common after all, but most of them probably are... But that stuff enters pop-psychology and gets distorted into this damaging perception that its actually highly likely for victims to become perps. Btw im not saying drake is a liar, i think its pretty obvious that his story is true-this isnt really about him, just the way the public chatter around him rn is really pushing the aforementioned harmful stigmatizing bs. It was not, in fact, a short rant. Im leaving it anyway. Gonna go watch your next video 🕺

Ive had an inkling of this feeling when i saw her playform his music video that imo while he's absolutely free to express his trauma in any way, the video and lyrics came off rushed to coincide with the release of the documentary and seeing her post it gave me an off feeling that even my boyfriend called out being weary of blindly supporting something just because she posted it

Not really "rushed", I tried to search a lot of information about it and they reached out to him (the Quiet on set team) about one year ago, so it was planned, but I don't think is anything wrong with that, he is expressing his trauma and he knows that the music will be better to release the song at the same time, the song probably wouldn't have the same impact if he released it next year or something. That's the market and I think the song and the video are very beautiful and has a purpose.

@MS05AGO
@MS05AGO 5 месяцев назад
@@Lildeadthing420 That's okay, also I think he is ready to be honest and also is trying to get better, which is a big thing to do because normally an abuser won't admit that they were wrong and continue to do the same things he was convicted or accused of. He even admitted that he was guilty of the charges. Real abusers (like Brian Peck for example) will do the same over and over to other victims and never admit their mistakes.
@Lildeadthing420
@Lildeadthing420 5 месяцев назад
@MS05AGO I just feel like this particular song comes off like good pr to continue to distract from what he's done. I've heard his older songs that were inspired by this situation and they don't come off the same way. That's just my observation. I'm sorry if this sounds pessimistic but of course he is acknowledging he's done wrong. He went to court and plead guilty he's probably very aware that acting like he didn't do what he did isn't going to help people be on his side. I'm sincerely asking for us to not label people as "real" abusers just because they don't admit their wrong doings.

Hey, I completely agree with your video. There's been this back and forth in my mind about this whole Drake Bell thing. I love his music, so there's already that, and I know it's wrong of me for that, I try not to support finacially the artists like this because that's the only think I can do in protest. I think your video put it into perspective why I feel so werid about the whole situation. The fact that we don't know these people personally, but we symapsthize with their trauma it makes all of this a huge grey area. Like you said, there's a way to talk about this that's not ignoring the other side of things. Don't get me wrong, I'm a survivor of CSA and I sympathize with what Drake went through. I love his music, but this thing in the back of my mind that's been having me question this whole thing, like the timing and him not saying anything about his past girlfriends. I get a documentary probably won't delve too much into that for the reasons you said, but it is weird that she privated the video and is blocking people. I just don't want her to fall down the same trap. I want the victims and surviors of Drake's to be heard as well, and hold Drake accountable. It's a hard situation and I've felt exactly what you've been saying.
