I think ultimately people are just way more selective than before. A mixture of "do I wanna spend money on a movie that isn't that great" and the fact it'll be on streaming in a month or so. I ain't spending £15 on a ticket for a 7/10 movie.
I swear that marketing for films these days is the main reason for a lot of modern-day movies failing. Sure, the film could be good but if a film isn't marketed well then people will either not see it because of the marketing not doing the film justice or because the marketing was almost nonexistent, so people wouldn't know the movie would be out when it releases.
I met Kellen when he went to London and I asked him if he’s excited for Transformers to which he said yes I even mentioned you guys to him which made him smile
i think the biggest reason as to why some films are bombing is because of shitty marketing. it's either very little promotion to the point where the general audience dosen't know that it exists, or it's promotion that makes the film look worse than it is. the most annoying kinds of ads for movies nowadays are the ones that focus more on the comic relief side characters more than the main characters (*cough* CLOD *cough* SPLAT)
I think their is just no place to market it. People who only use streaming so they get no ads, people who use AD blocker on the internet, and if you don't live in a place with billboards or stuff like that it feels like the casual adult who doesn't care about the movie industry only ever finds out about a new movie will be seeing an ad for it at a bar during the sports game and it's drive me nuts
The insanely high budgets have been the #1 contributor imo. When you invest so much money into the movie and its advertising for the sake of being the flashiest guy in town, you're gonna need to reach a really high number to just break even, let alone make a profit. Flash, Elemental, and Indiana Jones all exemplify this issue, and there are many more that fall into this category. Hollywood needs to realize that big CGI messes aren't what people always want
Only managed to watch Ruby Gillman. It was alright, but nothing too special to write home about. Kinda felt like it looked to Disney films such as "The Little Mermaid 2," "Turning Red," "Luca," etc from family trauma to the villain pretending to be friendly. There was also a lack of marketing that I forgot I last saw the first trailer 3 months ago... the one that spoiled the villain's identity. 1 month prior to release, and then the last-minute social media push. From what I heard from others, the predictable plot and art style turned some people off as well. Others didn't even know it premiered either.
I find it so funny how after the release of Puss in Boots 2, everybody was expecting DreamWorks to be the Savior of Western animation and kick Disney into bankruptcy. And then Ruby Gillman prove them to be wrong. Like this is DreamWorks we're talking about here, they are known to make some of the most best animated movie (HTTYD, Kung Fu Panda) , the worst animated movies (Shark Tale, boss baby), or an average film that everybody will forget in a few years (Mr Peabody and Sherman, The Penguins of Madagascar.)
Lol yeah, I was kinda surprised Veronica messed that up, considering it sounded like she had read the comic book. I get what she was saying about DC overall tho - their best stuff in recent memory has really been standalone films, like The Batman and Joker. Hoping James Gunn can make a big change
I really don't understand how Transformers is a bomb if it made more than what it needed to? If you didn't like it that's one thing but that doesn't mean it bombed.
Spider-Verse was complete garbage. It did well because of little kids. Meanwhile any adult watching was hit with child abuse in the first 15 minutes of the movie.
trailers are garbage AND the primary form of marketing. there are SO many movies this year that, if i didn't go to the theaters every few weeks, i wouldn't know existed. ones that make sense (nobody but film geeks was going to see Asteroid City anyway), but like... do *normal people* know there's a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie coming out in a month? do *normal people* know Expendables 4 comes out this summer? *i* didn't even know that! i think marketing departments have gotten too focused on the pre-existing fans, who would see the movie opening weekend either way, and are forgetting about the normal people who will only see a movie in theaters if they REALLY want to.
Man the only two movies that have been successful this summer is guardians and spider verse because they are really good and the that flopping are either mid or bad
even if Teenage Kraken is a hidden gem or something, it's for sure bombing hard. it's an original IP with really generic and unexciting marketing, in a time when generic kids/family films without some established IP aren't getting anything. Puss In Boots 2 got a great box office run via word of mouth, but it only got that initial push because it's Puss In Boots *2* and people know the IP. i think families really just aren't going to theaters anymore unless it's a major event, because they know it'll be on streaming in two months anyway.
Why would little Timothy care about thinly veiled race allegory 27 (the racism strikes back) when he could watch Spider-Man beat Elsa to death with a baseball bat for free.
Since you talked about Evangelion, could you all do a review of an anime called Gunbuster, please? It's a mecha anime from the 80s that's made by the same director (Hideaki Anno). Gunbuster was his directorial debut. Judging by what you said about Evangelion, it seems like you didn't like it that much, but I personally like Gunbuster a lot more. I like the story and characters more and didn't find it nearly as pretentious as Evangelion. It's also only 6 episodes, so it's an easy and quick watch.
I saw the Boogeyman on June 8th and didn't really like it. I'm only recently, like within the last couple years, starting to get into horror films cause I just refused to watch them growing up. Out of what I've seen I really like Psycho, old Universal monster movies, Nope, and some stuff like Renfield and Overlord. Boogeyman was just too jumpscare heavy for my tastes and like I really didn't care for the dumb teenage drama stuff that was happening outside of the horror. Only part of the entire thing I liked was the ending fight.
@MudSabs_WUT in there opening weekend at the moment it has gotten 420,964,586 less in 2 months and it hasn’t even released to some countries yet and there’s a Theory saying it could make 700 million worldwide and even if it doesn’t it would still count as a success considering it has hit 400 million making it break even so yeah
Part of it has to do with streaming, which means people are gonna wait til it goes on their tvs rather than going to a theatre with a bunch of people to see it. Also, this is probably gonna get controversial, but right wingers hate hollywood now for jamming left-wing politics into their movies at the expense of story and thats also a factor in why they arent going as well (I aint part of that group, but i cant deny thats a reason as well)
@@littlemeow124 That is also quite debatable plus what is considered "politics" in this context to begin with? Like, what politics do movies like Rise of The Beasts and the Flash have that these group of rightwingers don't like?
@@littlemeow124 Who's "hating" on white people and merely having a LGBT person is too much for these people? Pretty snowflakey of them. I do agree to some extend on how some female characters are written these days but these chuds usually complain about any female character being in the spotlight.
If you like her you can probably have a turn, Veronica has cheated on every man she's ever been with, especially Mark. She brags openly about it and how it's a good thing. While he's posting on here about picking up some new Fairly Oddparents toy from 20 years ago, his wife is riding a carousel of sorts.
It sucks honestly. So many movies have just been doing awful and it makes me sad. Elemental just doesn’t appeal to me and I will probably never see it. Ruby Gilman was amazing and it failed hard. I liked it and yeah it is not high quality as The Last Wish but it is still wholesome and great. That’s my opinion of course. I have plans to see the new Transformers, that’s why I skipped that portion of this lol
I'm not trying to justify it but if your grown man husband spent all day every day buying Fairly Oddparents toys from 15 years ago to show his internet fanbase of preteens, you'd probably cheat too. Again, not justifying it, both Veronica and Mark are disgusting for participating in that.
@@crispyboy6826 She didn't learn or grow, she thinks it's okay and she's still doing it. The only one learning and growing are the strange men growing stiff and learning the contours of the body of the woman who swore herself to Mark and only Mark until they died. That's definitely worth bringing up. His fanbase is mostly kids, they're promoting a lifestyle that ruins lives and relationships as something fun to their audience of little kids.
